So in the last episode we introduced the new series called Road to 10k, where we are giving ourselves £1k and we have to turn it into £10k by buying and flipping cars! We bought a 1.8 20v VW bora with a broken gearbox (and a few other issues) for £500, so today we are taking the gearbox off the car and seeing what damage has been done, and also getting to fix the other issues.
So the gearbox and the clutch has been smashed to pieces and i have no idea why or what happened, but we run into some other issues with the car! Can we make a profit on this one? Lets see!

Removing the drivers side flange for the drive shaft makes it a lot easier for removal + installation. I think it’s a 7mm Alan key
Agree with the above but make sure you drain the gearbox oil first otherwise it goes everywhere. I did a Bora clutch in the summer. Box was a pig to refit. The only way I could get it on was to remove the driveshaft flanges and then put the gearbox on at a 10 o clock position and then rotate it clockwise. Otherwise the where the driveshafts go snag against the chassis. Had a very frustrating evening! Nice car though and a very rare beast.

done one of these on audi a3 8l. 5speed box a lot easier than 6speed. if clutch for an AUM should fit, doesnt matter Golf/Bora

This is my old car! Bought from Birmingham VW in 2004 with 10,000 miles on the clock. It had already been fitted with Bilstein and Eibach shocks and springs, very firm but a quick car with it. Took it to the Nurburgring in 2009 before I sold it. Has it still got the red sticker on the boot??

If there is a 20 valve engine that was the same as the GTi golf 1.8 turbo which VW used on a mark for golf and it come from the Audi TT prior to that they had a 2 L mk4 in the GTi 104 BHP where as the 1.8 had a 150 brake horsepower. So you’ll probably find the clutches the same as the Audi TT or 1.8 golf all the best

Got an 04 PD130 Bora, only replaced the whole suspension, and put in my own intake pipes/boost pipes along with other bits n pieces...
Possibly need subframes, timing chain and DMF done 🤣
Basically, I'll keep an eye on your stuff to see the quirks.
If that’s the brake pad wear sensor wire than just cut it and splice them together
All the engine are fairly strong even the bam engines are good plenty of mods available and good bhp returns

I used to have a audi a4 b6 sport quattro with the 1.8t engine like you. Mine was bex emgine code. The most rarest off the 1.8t engines
Same clutch for all even the pds I had a solid flywheel from a pd in my gti still in now been in about 6 years

That hole in box is probably one of the rivet thing of the diff

With a k03s turbo on it
I've got a ibiza 20v
You should of put a single mass flywheel and vr6 clutch all in 200 pound for the next owner to up the power check your rocker cover gasket and also check the engine pick up pipe these are also big problems for the 1.8t the temp sensor is a big problem also and check the maf they also cause the problems your experiencing I own a golf 1.8t aum had it 7years parts are cheap as chips you should make some good money on that bora very rare with a 1.8t engine

hi mate don't buy cheap coolant green sensor they are rubbish they don't last long and give false readings and make your car run rich or idle rough .its a lot more expensive but main dealer got mine from main dealer no problems keep up the good work mate

Im a 20v enthusiast myself and do a lot in my garden outside, they ent the easiest engines/cars to work on anyway, you must take your time and make sure you have the proper tools before starting a job on a old gen vag, worse for me I do a lot of Quattro stuff, just done a Quattro gearbox on a tt in my garden on jack stands on my own lol 75kg box😩😂

If you get the chance to do a mini with a blown clutch avoid it, the whole subframe needs to be removed to get the box out. 👍
