    In this video I Install the WJ Knuckles and Brakes on my Jeep Cherokee XJ while setting up OTK high steer and a wheel alignment.
    I have wanted to do a WJ steering knuckle and brake swap for the last two years and I finally have all the parts to do the build. My Jeep is a RHD so It took some time to locate part 5012517AB which I found in Russia and was kindly sent over.
    In this video I do the knuckle and brake swap, set up a one ton high steer setup, a wheel alignment and build some high steer sway bar brackets. Its a complete install from start and almost to finish. I'm waiting on some inner axle sleeves, outer seals and inner seals to complete the build and that will be in the next video.

    Just an add on to why you use the xj hub over the wj, the xj has a 4.5x5 bolt pattern and the wj has a 5x5 bolt pattern. So it requires you to either run a spacer/adapter or different wheels.

    if you use the 99-01 unit bearing, you don't have to use spacers for the caliper brackets. 25:10 I did that...made a helluva racket!

    The wj uses a cv joint that has a different center of pivot than a u joint, that is the real reason for the spacer, without it the u joint will bind and destroy itself along with the hub bearing.

    Thanks Bear Grylls, great video. I didn't know the deflection was less with wj knuckles.
    You can use wj unit bearings but it requires shaving down the axle nut to fit the cotter pin in the hole, but it's not worth it unless you're ok with having different wheel patterns on the axles front and rear. I think you need 4 inches of back spacing on the wheels for 15s. Or you could get 16s from a rubicon tj or liberty. Or 17s from a 5x115 car like a challenger or charger, but it's a stock stance and look. The hardest thing about this swap is over the knuckle steering and track bar placement and length. I found it easier to just keep it under the knuckle, keep the stock trackbar location and use shortened wj drag link, tie rod, and tie rod ends. A guy on UA-cam did a great video on otk wj swap and trackbar set up named martinbuilts I think.

      Yeah I could try and do that. My problem is getting a second hand RHD WJ axle in Sweden. The shipping is really expensive I think. If I was in the UK I would do that for sure! Thanks for watching!

    Hey I. Appreciate the video! I have a L200 that I. Am swapping with a Xj axle. With WJ break upgrade.... So I am right hand drive, same as you, but I cannot find the knuckle you our chased anywhere in north America. Could you please send me the part number or link to where you purchased it?! Alternatively, could you send me one?! 😬

      I have a part number in the description. I would help if I could, but these RHD knuckles are almost impossible to find. I had to get mind shipped from Russia via a friend of a friend. I come from England and you would think I could source them there. I called around many braker yards, and there were none. I will try and source one for you, but I can make any promises.

    Calling you out on a safety concern.. Looked like you put smooth ball joints in after having used knurled previously? Just want to call it out in case it wasn't something you'd taken into account. That's generally a no-no

    • @WorkshoptoWilderness
      @WorkshoptoWilderness  Рік тому

      I checked my pictures because I couldn't remember. On the new ball joints the top one was knurled and the bottom one was smooth. I'm not sure why that is but I will tell you that bottom one took super human strength to press in and the top one didn't.
      Given how easy the old ones came out I'm not concerned.
      Thanks for watching and for the call out.

      With a 99-01 unit bearing and taking back the caliper there should be a lot more room. I will see when i fit it all next week. I also suppose it depends on the type of offloading you do. If your in mud and rocks all day then it might be a problem.
