  • Multiple people in North Stonington claim they've spotted a mountain lion roaming around. However, the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) says mountain lions have not been in existence in this state for more than a century.

    A mountain lion curled up on my mothers back porch in Avon CT. Her friend got pictures, but DEP said it must have been pictures taken in the Mid West. They lie right to your face.

      I was traveling on rt 177, from Canton to Avon, and I saw one cross the road. Definitely not a bobcat because it had a tail but it was tall and had defined muscle structure. It was a mountain lions for sure. This was probably around 2005-2008ish

    I had the same experience as the first man in this video had. I was on Rte. 45 in Warren, Ct. & a mountain lion jumped in front of my car & it only took one & 1/2 strides to cross the two lanes. I was able to get a good look at it. A very long body (large) & the tail was about 3 ft. long & it had a distinct black/dark brown spot on the tip of its tail. It was broad daylight & I was going slow. I know what I saw.

    I grew up in Terryville Connecticut from 1998 - 2008. my house was in a very wooded area, and one morning as I was going out to my bus stop (I must’ve been 7 or 8 years old) i came across a mountain lion laying across my driveway basking in the sun. My first instinct was to run, so I dropped my backpack and ran right back into my house! I still tell people that story, but I don’t think they understand how surreal it was to see this giant cat just chillen in my driveway

    A mountain lion crossed right in front of me at 10:30 am this morning on Rt.69 in Wolcott, CT near Mad River Rd. Came out one side of the road and walked slowly across both lanes. It just looked at my car and didn't seem to care. I had to stop my car to not hit it. Very cool sighting!!

    Seeing as how the wildlife authorities released some mountain lions into a remote part of Eastern Connecticut years ago, and kept it quiet - for them to be bald-face lying about it, is not doing anyone any favors. Watch your backs when you're out hiking people - they're out there, and they're waiting to pounce on you. ;)

    • @kanyeeastlolz

    • @sorellman
      @sorellman 2 роки тому

      Where did you see mountain lions released in a remote part of Eastern Connecticut? Somebody at the bar told you so? BTW, the animal dead on the side of the road does not have the legs and the paws, or the head of a mountain lion. Other than that, I would be very suspicious about reports in the media meant to scare people. This is how they get better ratings. Last but not the least if that was a mountain lion, why did they have to do a DNA test to figure out ... it was a mountain lion. Was it because it does not look like a mountain lion?

    I saw one on the edge of the state forest in Naugatuck about 10 years ago , it saw us from about 60 feet , took one kings which was close to 10 feet, then 5 seconds later took off running at a seemingly impossible speed. It wasn’t a bobcat I’ve seen multiple bobcats in the same area and this was much faster and bigger

    So many independent sightings almost prove that mountain lions are in Connecticut. As a matter of fact, I’m virtually sure they are all over the Northeast. Most states have landscapes and prey that could or do support these wonderful native carnivores. I sure hope they are in my part of the country so that they would help control our overly populated whitetail deer. And, in conclusion, if you see one, enjoy the sight, but please do not harm it.

    About one month before the cat was killed in Westport I was driving on Grey's Bridge Road in Brookfield (one lane either way) I stopped short because about 10 feet ahead of me was a mountain lion just standing in the middle of the road. We looked at each other for a few seconds and then he leapt over the guardrail and ran into the bushes. I wonder if it was the one who later got hit in Westport.

    I saw mountain lions three times in Devil's Den, Weston. One time on a nature trail I walked up behind it and stopped. It turned around and we faced each other. This is typical of government workers. They aren't worth a tinker's damn. All idiots. They prey on ungulates; aka deer and they originally came to NA following them, but these Government employees believe that the overabundance of deer is no longer an attraction to them. I'll bet they all have PhD's that are freaken worthless. Trust the government they never lie.

    In view of the abundance of deer in the New England states, it is probable that those predators are returning to the area - perhaps they never were completely exterminated.

    Young male pumas will leave their mother at about 18 months old and start to wander with some going over a thousand miles it has been documented. Look at a map and trace from where definite cougar populations are to the east, CT is right in the 'bullseye' of the eastern migration route. Bears often do the same. Without females, who rarely wander that far from where they were born, there is no chance of a breeding population. But if females were stocked, say as a deer control measure, then there is a very good chance they could get reestablished with a ready supply of deer at hand.
