One of the things I really enjoy about vocals in a language I don't understand is that I think it helps to appreciate the voice more as a pure instrument without all that pesky parsing of words getting in the way. As you said, it cuts right to the emotion and intensity of the song, and what a fine example of that this is!
Very true, I started listening to some Japanese bands, and idk what they say but damn are they grooves, and have so many cool vocal hooks. Need more bands to do things like this.
You won't believe but right now I'm attending my very first pop concert in my life (a favor to my teenage daughter) and I stand here in the corner with earplugs and listen to this track to get good vibes 😬🤘🏼
What concert if you don't mind me asking? I don't really listen to metal much anymore, but this caught my attention and I'm glad it did. Reminds me of Fair To Midland a little bit, but more metal. I'm more of a Steely Dan guy in my 40's ;) But I can appreciate the passion and talent that went into this song. It's beautiful.
@@enjoybrad81 to be honest, I don't want to tell, as I don't wanna discredit the artist, as it's just a matter of taste. It's not their fault that I prefer listening to metal and only accompanied my daughter to a pop concert. The supporting act was really boring to me, so I kept listening to Shepherds Reign, but the main artist was really good, even if it wasn't my preferred music style ☺️
Thank you, UA-cam Gods for putting this front and center on my page. While I have absolutely NO idea what's being said I'm good with that. That's the beauty of music. Words aren't required. You can feel every word of this song and it's intense. I love hearing music like this from other parts of the world outside of the US and Europe
As we used to say back in the day, this is LIT!!!!! The world is better that y'all exist!!!! Much love from this middle aged metal head from California!!!
Growing up in the United States, born in Hawaii, I didn't grow up with my other 6 siblings nor raised by my parents. My grandparents took me to Oklahoman when I was 6 months old. I became a Metalhead at the age of 10 in 1987. I got my first 🎸 when I was 12. Started my first band in December 1993 when I was in high school (9th grade). Jammed in Metal bands for 25 years until July 2018. Got to open for some Big Bands when they came through Oklahoma City over the years. Some of the funniest times in my life playing in metal bands over the years that I will always cherish. And it makes me really happy to see fellow Usos in the South Pacific melting faces and representing our culture. 🇦🇸🇼🇸 You guys make me very proud. CHEEEEHOOOOOO!!!! 🤘🏾🤘🏾
Ahoy, that met me some month's ago and I can't get them from my phone. The metal is incredible. I do not understand yet so deeply I understand. We are pretty f.. In this situation in the so called EUshit
Samoan metal ... wow ... this is out of this world. Don't understand the language though the sound is familiar and that's what matters. Cheers from Papua New Guinea.
Superb video for a superb track. The combination of the low guitars with the traditional percussion is absolutely superb, and paired with the band's impeccable melodic sense it's an absolute winner.
I was counting the days for the video to come out. Ala Mai is my favorite song of the album and my most played song in Spotify by a long shot. I'm really glad you made such a cool video for it and I hope more and more people find your music. Thanks you so much for including the lyrics in the description. Now that I better understand the meaning of the song, my love for it grew even more. Greetings from Basque Country!!
We need more indigenous culture exalted through music; metal if possible! Let's praise our people roots with the glory and acknowledgment it deserves! Greetings from a Tupinambá descendant.✊
As a Borknagar fan, I like highly melodic instrumentals/vocals with a nice touch of "folkish rawness." This band has it all. And I'm impressed (and somehow, honoured) they sing in their traditional language. Very powerful. Greetings from Mexico.
That is the wonder you can have with lgs that have relatively straightforward open syllables, so in Samoan, there are *no* consonant-final syllables (whereas Japanese has -N and Finnish can have final alveolar consonants /t, s, n, l, r/).
BTW, I used to joke that in a parallel universe, Finnish and Estonian are spoken by folks who for some reason escaped from Samoa (I mean, Suomi vs. Sāmoa? Yeah.), and during their journey, they smashed their words into multisyllabic behemoths (as Samoan has mostly analytical/isolating morphosyntax).
This just randomly popped up in my suggested videos. HOLY SHIT!!! As a musician, I'm impressed, and that ain't easy to do, being I'm a music snob. Good shit right here, much respect from the United States 🇺🇸
As a 44 year old white dude I don't even know what they're saying but this band rocks harder than anything I've heard would pay very good money to see a concert

Thank you for another album, guys! I've been spreading the word here in SoCal. Your music, aesthetic, the sharing of your heritage - truly a powerful combination. Please keep it up.
I love how these guys sound like they're about to rip someone's spine out of their throat yet their song lyrics are incredibly wholesome anthems about family and respect.
Someone else mentioned on social media before: "my soul left my body when the chorus started". Well, my soul never returned 😂😂😂 I dont understand what they're saying, but this song sounds sooo powerfull, especially the chorus, the chorus... F**kin awesome 🤟🤙well done💪🤟🤙 greetings from the Netherlands, i hope you guys perform some day in my country.
Filiva'a you have always been a powerful singer but every song you have sang in Samoan just feels even more intense and genuine than your English songs. So glad you guys are bringing the Polynesian Power! The pātē drumming is Fire!!

I was not looking for a Maori/Polynesian band today, but I'm glad I found it.
chatGPT told me this is supposedly Samoan and not Maori. I got to see a translation in Maori and it would've sounded way harder.
Try Alien Weaponry if you want Maori
