- Today I took the Ride1Up Portola with the 10.4ah battery on a full scale range test. Using only pedal assist 2 and 3 I was able to go extremely far on this budget bike. Watch the whole video to see how far we made it! I was extremley impressed with the results!

Would like to share my riding comparison between Velotric Fold 1 and one of its cheaper major competitors like Ride1Up Portola. Both ebikes I purchased very recently and pedal them about 80 mi each before providing w/ this info. Once I switched Velotric F1 to class 3 e-bike (allowing 28mph when pedal-assisting) most importantly than the max speed is actually how the torque power changed successfully for every PAS level. What happened is described very briefly - every one PAS level even otherwise the not noticeable PAS 1 or 2 increased its power when pedaling, and became so noticeable that I was able to pedal variety of terrains, including very short but steep uphills only using Velotric F1 PAS 1, incomparable advantage over Portola.
Later even switched to Class 3 from Class 2 e-bike operation is forcing me going up steep hills especially to switch to PAS4 or 5 in order pedaling to get over the hill without much effort. The same observation is valid comparing Velotric F1 with other cheaper competitors like Aipas A2 and Lectruc XP 3.0 step-thru e-bikes. Being able to pedal practically everywhere without the need to switch to higher more-battery consuming PAS level or throttle - the outcome pedaling and saving more battery from discharge longer than Portola, Aipas A2 and Lectric XP step-thru.
This is the video test I wanted to see. I bought a Portola for my girl friend to ride to work 5 miles one way. I think it will be alright. I bought the Fold 1 for myself and wanted to see how the Portola compaired t the fold one. I'll have to wait for a few day for it to deliver to see.
Great content 👍🏾👌🏾
I appreciate it ! Thanks for coming by and watching !
@@MeedersPEVS Thank you for the range test.
You used 10.4Ah Portola battery. Also it’s interesting to know what is your height and what number you set on your saddle post extended?
Since Portola display (vs. known M5 display, for example) doesn’t have an option to follow accurately with the battery discharge (it’s known that the most accurate follow up with battery discharge is following on the display in terms of voltage consumption) during riding vs. following with the provided 5 bars battery charge on KD21C display. It’s tricky for the rider to know exactly how much battery voltage % left. Also since it’s not advisable to deplete the battery to zero, is this a problem testing the Portola range?
Even on PAS 3 (more comfortable torque for such a long range achieved of 47 mi (it’s much better range performance of Portola w/ the usually ignored 10.4Ah battery option). Remarkable given the range of the competitors in this price range of $1K and below. Bravo Portola, thank you for this video test that is very encouraging for owners like me who got 10.4Ah. Portola in this range test obviously outperformed most of the competition.
Yes I have the 10.4ah. I’m about 5’11” and I have my seat post pulled out to the 4 position. I’m not a huge fan of bars instead of voltage for battery readings but it’s the easiest for most people to understand. I haven’t had much of an issue with it. And it’s just not great to leave the battery drained for a long while. I waited about 10 minutes after I got home to let the battery cool and then charged it back up to about 50% it really shouldn’t cause any bit of an issue just not great to do every time you rode. But I am extremely impressed with my range PAS definitely is the more comfortable way to cruise for long range but this is definitely the best bike in this price range. I wish more people knew about this hidden gem ! Thanks for watching the video :)
Will you do a throttle only range test? If not what range do you think you would get with throttle only?
great video. do you find the handle bars to be a little short?
@@MankickNo they’re in a pretty comfortable position for me ! I am on the taller side so I wouldn’t complain if they were like an inch higher. But they’re in a super comfortable casual position. I haven’t noticed it being uncomfortable or feeling too low even after my long rides
@@MeedersPEVS I meant length wise
@@Mankick Gotcha they’re a good width. Honestly they are a lot wider that most folding e-bike handlebars. They feel comfortable and aren’t to wide that you’re gonna have issues going through narrow spots. I think the go pro makes them look a bit smaller than they are.
@@MeedersPEVS I actually have one.I bought this bike second to my Velotric Fold 1. I suppose I have become comfortable with the width of the fold 1, so sitting with this bike felt strange with the change in handle bar size. I bought this bike for my wife, and if it is all she knows, perhaps it will work. Only time will tell.
For 20in non-fat-tire bikes, I find narrower bars are better as smaller diameter tires are nimbler than bigger ones, almost twitchy. The Portola bars are also wider than typical of 20in folding bikes. I find myself holding the grips closer to the center when I ride this bike, especially when holding on with just one hand. I actually swapped out the ergonomic grips for round ones so it feels less awkward as I shift my grip outwards or inwards.
What size is your battery ?
I have the smaller 10.4 amp hour battery
I have the portola with the larger battery…I love it!
It’s a great bike ! I bet the bigger battery is nice to have
It seems to be all the rage in the comments, so I will do the same, what size is your 10.4AH battery?
80km is pretty impressive range. Looking forward to the throttle only test!
Yes I do have the 10.4 Ah battery ! The other available size is a 13.4 Ah. And I know I was extremely impressed. I’ll be curious to see how throttle only does too. Thanks so much for watching :)
