Re: Asylums "This is what used to happen 200 years ago" Well, it's more like 50-60 years ago. One of the most famous cases of widespread abuse occurring in "asylums" or mental institutions was Willowbrook, which was exposed back in 1972. So that's only 49 years ago. And there were many institutions that were closed way later than that. The history of the abuse of mental patients is RECENT.
And I have seen restraints used in my lifetime. I'm 26. And there was an asylum in TN that didn't close til like 2008 so while not common definitely still used in some places.
Y'know after watching this............. I never had any idea how dangerous these challenges actually were but now that I have a good enough idea, it makes me wonder if there would ever be another video like this so that he sees the newer challenge videos mrbeast has made over the years cause with the newer ones it's actually a little bit if not alot safer than the older ones just because of how much jimmy and his friends have learned from all the mistakes and just how the older challenge videos helped them be a lot more aware and prepared for future challenges...... I really really enjoyed this video!👏👏👏👏😌
This dude definitely has found a way to blend in with today's kids. Good for him! People probably do listen to him because he tells u what your doing wrong without making you feel like a total idiot.
Just like Matt Stonie, he trains a frickin lot that’s why he doesn’t get weight. As for how they eat so much, it’s just extreme training. Training to endure the food nausea so you can eat more.
@@ash.toronto31 You're not allowed to vomit during eating competitions. They actually train their stomachs to be extra stretchy so that they can fit amounts of food in there that would make anyone else very ill very quickly
@@simitrical5104 they just paste this exact claim under a lot of the comments. I don't know what they're trying to accomplish but I have a feeling the "proof" is something like "trust me, I'm on UA-cam". TeamSeas on the other side is an official, registered charity and they explain very clearly on their web page what they're going to do with the money.
For the under water one, my main concern is without a regulator and pressurized air bottles it's possible that the vast majority of the gasses in there will become co2 and nitrogen as it's possible for some the air being added to just bubble out from the bottom decreasing the oxygen concentration leading to co2 and or nitrogen poisoning. Probably one of the most dangerous stunts he has done especially without monitoring equipment in there with him. It would be impossible for him to determine if he was getting nitrogen narcosis until he drowned as it feels like being drunk but is much more subtle than the effects of alcohol
I had similar concerns, carbogen mixture also has a soporific effect. I suspect something related to the atmospheric content with only oxygen coming in with no ventilation was likely why he got nauseous, not the water around him, but he'd have no indication of why he's feeling that way, sea sickness may just have been his easiest reference point.
*Dr Mike talking about not having insane asylums*: "we moved away from restraints" *Me who went to a HORRIBLE state mental hospital*: ....Are you sure?
The best thing that the people did at the place I used to get frequent MRIs - for claustrophobic people - was they put an angled mirror above your face so you can see through an open glass window and not at this machine a few inches from your face making loud noises. It helped so much for me rather than just closing my eyes and listening to music.
i'm fairly certain that damage to my anterior tibilas muscle is what gave me foot drop for a few weeks so...good for him for being able to move his feet
Done it a few times myself... when I was a hotel front desk agent. Once was after a double, working 2pm to 6am and going home to a sick kid... I don't miss that job!
Mike: if any of that carbon monoxide from the fireworks gets in his ventilation, he could die. *later in the video* Karl: hey we think some of it got in your ventilation
The coffin one terrified me for all the obvious reasons but also because I couldn't stop thinking about that Mythbusters episode where they put Jamie in a coffin and the weight of the dirt literally started crushing it.
With competitive eating, they will train their stomachs into how much food they can hold and try and increase that number. Before and after any challenges, they make sure that their bodies can relax, so they won't consume as much food and calories into their system, as well as simultaneously exercise so their metabolism isn't affected.

Hey Doctor Mike, I’m a musician and my main instrument is the drums along with other instruments, I have a specific request, a comparison between 2 drummers from a medical standpoint, as in, telling us all of the positives and negatives about drumming and how 2 different drummers can have different body types dictated by there playing style. The 2 drummers I had in mind were Dave Lombardo from Slayer who is efficient and fast with his playing and Brian Chippendale from Lightning Bolt who plays strongman style and puts his whole body behind it I’m also happy if it was more general and broad so it reaches more people like talking about which instrument benefits which part of the body or mind and what genre of music does to the body and mind Keep up the great videos Doctor Mike.

To be fair, he walked most of it. Slowly.
I love this perspective from Dr. Mike pointing out some potential red flags for Mr. Beast's videos. I'd like to think that he has some sort of emergency plan and trained professional in place in case something goes wrong but it's still scary to think of how it could go wrong.
he has he always says they have professional medical staff in case of anything
I believe he does have medical staff on wait in case anything happens.
In the asylum video you can hear Chris explaining what the doctor In site told him.
I have a neighbour who has kidney issues, I've gone over to her apartment a few times to help her. She goes to the hospital in an Ambulance every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and gets back at 4pm. She gets a machine to do what her kidneys can't do for her so actually. Please DO NOT sell your kidneys or anything to damage them.
He probbably doesnt. He probably just got his friends who will get him in safety if anything happens
@@lordkonzilla7890 he has medical staff in some. In the buried alive video he shows that he has medical staff to make sure he was okay so I'm thinking he also has medical staff in others
Right! I was definitely thinking much more recent than 200 years...
The denial of systemic ableism is staggering
And I have seen restraints used in my lifetime. I'm 26. And there was an asylum in TN that didn't close til like 2008 so while not common definitely still used in some places.
Exactly a ton of asylums didn't close until the 80s and 90s
The thing with the underwater video is THEY ABSOLUTELY DID NOT THINK ABOUT CO2
"This is ridiculous, this is only in America." Most true statement! 😂

Mr beast is both interesting, and terrifying to watch. Especially his 24+ hour challenges

Just like Matt Stonie, he trains a frickin lot that’s why he doesn’t get weight. As for how they eat so much, it’s just extreme training. Training to endure the food nausea so you can eat more.
No, that's bs. They dump all that through vomiting.
@@ash.toronto31 You're not allowed to vomit during eating competitions. They actually train their stomachs to be extra stretchy so that they can fit amounts of food in there that would make anyone else very ill very quickly

@@Jack_smith9090 good try on that spelling
I had similar concerns, carbogen mixture also has a soporific effect. I suspect something related to the atmospheric content with only oxygen coming in with no ventilation was likely why he got nauseous, not the water around him, but he'd have no indication of why he's feeling that way, sea sickness may just have been his easiest reference point.
Can we just appreciate how smooth that transition was

*Me who went to a HORRIBLE state mental hospital*: ....Are you sure?
Yeah I got threatened with being strapped down in a bed if I didn’t stop crying.
The best thing that the people did at the place I used to get frequent MRIs - for claustrophobic people - was they put an angled mirror above your face so you can see through an open glass window and not at this machine a few inches from your face making loud noises. It helped so much for me rather than just closing my eyes and listening to music.

With competitive eating, they will train their stomachs into how much food they can hold and try and increase that number. Before and after any challenges, they make sure that their bodies can relax, so they won't consume as much food and calories into their system, as well as simultaneously exercise so their metabolism isn't affected.

Please review some medical documentaries. It would be fascinating to hear your expert opinion on real life scenarios. A British show called 24 Hours in A&E would be a good choice.
He is not an expert on everything. He is a family doctor. You would need like 20 doctors to cover everything.
@@foty8679 while he may not be an ‘expert’, hes spent time in the er (same as a&e just for clarification) so he would be able to give further information, personal experiences etc while watching the show, as he usually does. Quick medical question: for the underwater challenge, couldn’t the constant water pressure also play a factor in some sort of medical issue?
I don't think that was deep enough to be a problem.
@@drakoran I mean, he was still in water so there was constantly some sort of pressure on him, yknow?
@@zaccwiggins yeah and it would be negligible. You'd get 1 atm if you were 10mt deep. He might have 1mt, 1,5mt tops above him. He just has a bit of weight due to the water itself. I don't think that's relevant enough compared to the other issues discussed in the video.

The 2 drummers I had in mind were Dave Lombardo from Slayer who is efficient and fast with his playing and Brian Chippendale from Lightning Bolt who plays strongman style and puts his whole body behind it
I’m also happy if it was more general and broad so it reaches more people like talking about which instrument benefits which part of the body or mind and what genre of music does to the body and mind
Keep up the great videos Doctor Mike.
