Very nice restoration. I have an old Delta drill press with a massive 4-leg table. The head is also adjustable in many directions, including angles. I hope to restore it one day. It's a beautiful machine. Thanks for sharing.
Man, the cars drive by your house quickly! ;-) Nicely done restoration. I'm in the midst of a 1930s era Buffalo Forge drill press at the moment. It's remarkable how similar these things are even though they are from different manufacturers.
I have one of these here in the UK, I believe they were imported as part of the war effort. The press is rebadged as Tauco, I believe due to the Delta brand name already in use here. I completely restored the press, fitted a new Jacobs JT6 chuck, with a cast aluminum chuck guard, bare steel components were chemically blackened, the paint work is a dark green hammer finish. I had the opportunity of a free electrical cabinet off a Crosland clamshell press from the 50’s, so I used that as a stand, it’s nice and sturdy as it has a cast iron plinth, with 16g steel fabricated cabinet. It matches the period of the drill press, and compliments it nicely. The press has been rewired with modern switches, but the switches are mounted inside a period cast switch box that has been gutted. What I would like for it is the belt cover, the problem is they’re not available here, so I might have to fabricate one. The press runs beautifully smooth, but as it’s been around five years since I restored it, the blackened finish needs redoing, as humidity here can be a problem, and I should’ve coated it with an anti rust wax.
You got a cool channel I love these old machines, I make videos of old smaller tools, my shop has not space for huge machines, but I own a few older machines like an old Atlas Drill Press, an old Langelier drill press, some old Pexto stuff. I was given a Delta Milwaukee table top DP220, 204 drill press, no key. On the chuck it says "Jacobs" I can't read the rest . Covered in sawdust and a bit rusty from storage in a musty basement. Is it worth keeping? Where can I find a key?
I'm doing this same thing same dp! Did you replace the quill bearings or just clean and grease them? I was able to clean and grease the upper pulley shaft bearing using suction as it is obsolete but haven't gotten to the quill bearings yet. My DP has a Westinghouse motor as it was manufactured as a hybrid model with shared WABCO and Delta parts (Westinghouse de ion starter, Westinghouse 1/3 motor, riveted plates). Thanks for the video!
Very nice video, your mechanical skills are great! With all your tools I am surprised you don't have a paint spray gun and compressor which would enable you to use a higher quality paint than that available in the rattle cans.
The reason I don't use a spray gun is my compressor is too small and I'm pretty limited on space. I'm working out of a 2 car garage so rattle cans are the most space efficient.
Coming from a tool and die maker, and a high tolerance machinist and a welder and fabricator I can say this........Please learn more about basic machining and fabricating. You did a pretty good job in the restoration process, but your issue with your tapping has nothing to do with the tapping head but how you reassembled the machine and clamped down your work piece. Setup is the most important part of machining and knowing what you are truly doing or wanting to do is just as important. Keep on learning and keep on making mistakes to make yourself better in the craft.

I just ordered one the other day off Amazon. My DP 220 has a Jacobs No. 3 chuck key. I'd guess yours is the same. About $16.
That floor shop press is nice I have the same one that I'm restoring... can u do a video on it....I seen a foot pedal on it...?

GOOD jOB ! BUT WHY WOULD YOU DO ALL THAT WORK AND NOT GRIND DOWN the Ugly Welds ?? I dont get it .
