    ***Corrections & Clarifications***
    -The phrase "sound quality" is perhaps not accurate here, all 4 of these subwoofers have good sound quality. What the REL and Rythmik have more of is articulation and bass detail.
    -Correct setup will be vital in having the best experience.
    -Will add more if anything comes to mind.

      I appreciate the $h!t outta this video man! Like I said before to you, I love my SB3000's in my living room setup, but I'm putting together a music only system now and I don't think I'll go with them for this purpose. I do like my music pretty loud at times(maybe 90db) and I listen to a lot of hip-hop(I know that's not very audiophile, but it is what it is). Maybe I could set them up better, but I do hear them even at 55hz crossover on bass heavy music. I'm really interested in the Rythmik F12's with an upgraded amp that has speaker level inputs. That direct servo tech is interesting to me. When I finally decide to part with the money I'll let you know my experience. BTW, what state do you live in? I'm in Ohio.

      @@JosephTongret I'm in southern california. I think i might be buying an F12SE next honestly, I'm really curious about what that thing can do and surprisingly there is not a single review up on youtube for the F12. Hip-hop not audiophile? Bro i literally use Put On by Young Geezy to setup subwoofers lol. For what it's worth i did push the Rythmik L12 to 90db with bass heavy music and i did feel i was pushing it a bit too much at that point in my 12x10x9 room but a pair of them should be more than capable.

      Ironically, when you say X sub is better for music or for a 50/50 those are ideal for movies. I currently have 2 x polk dsw pro 550s connected via speaker level to my front Magnepans. I watch movies, I listen to music, I even game on my setup. How well the subwoofer(s) integrates matters a lot. When subs are setup ideally they really don't draw attention to themselves, even when the bass hits. The system basically will have wider range. After I got my subs I noticed some music I thought had "bass" only had a "50hz bump" and other music I didn't think have much bass had very deep bass. The extra range and detail can totally change the experience. Grab any random action movie, you'll enjoy them more.

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  3 роки тому +2

      @@jaakanshorter Yeah i agree but bass is also really personal, I've seen guys with 4 18" subs in a small room so maximum integration and bass detail is not the priority for everyone especially in the HT realm where LFE and output are more important initially.

    Recently purchased an L12, desired a sub that leaned towards musical over HT; Your comments about it are spot on. Followed their guidelines for setup, dialed it in, and yes- even though it was functioning I found myself going over and checking to make sure it was on. Have been very impressed with how well it integrates musically in a single sub setup- it's there, does a great job at filling out the low end, but doesn't draw attention to itself. When watching movies in HT environment it is more than adequate.

    Another good vid. We appreciate you man! Questions: What would give more slam and presence? Two 8-in subs or one larger 13-in sub? Assume a room that's ~15x20 ft I'm thinking the two smaller subs will give you better musicality when you want it but would it not give the home theater effect of the single larger sub or not? The primary use in that room would be home theater

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  3 роки тому +4

      Two 8" subs have the same surface are of a single 11" sub so the single 13" will have more cone surface area and more maximum output all other things being equal. I would not use 8" subs in a home theater unless it's something with good power like the Aperion Bravus 8D, a pair of those would have a ton of output and dual subs will give you more consistent bass from seat to seat. But to answer your question, 1 13" sub will generally outperform 2 8" subs.

    Nice, I like comparisons :)
    A big reason why these subs need so much power is that small sealed enclosures are very inefficient and also roll off early. To compensate you need a lot of active dsp/eq which costs amplifier power and restricts maximal output - hence the large amps.
    The Emotiva uses a PR which makes it a lot more efficient

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  3 роки тому +1

      Wooo brother those are some monsters you're looking at, soooo I'm not crazy into HT but I do know a bit about bass. So instead of doing a single ULF or TV42 I would actually prefer dual Rythmik FV25HP at $4940. Here is the math on why: single PSA TV42 is 693 square inches of cone area, 3800w, for $4750. A single JTR ULF has 510 square inches of cone area and 4000w for $4200, and dual Rythmik FV25HP has 707 square inches of cone area and 3600w for $4940. As you can see for just a little more cash you get dual subs which will give you more even bass distribution, more motor force, maximum output is anyone's guess as all 3 options are monsters but i think the best SQ will be accomplished with dual Rythmiks opposed to a single ULF or JTR. As far as rall the speakers go the sky is the limit with something amazing at every price point from Emotiva to Focal and everything in between. I suggest establishing a budget for the 5 speakers first and going from there kind of like you have done with the subs. Keep in mind for a truly immersive experience you'll want a good processor/avr that ideally has some sort of room correction like Dirac as most guys these days start with 5.1 and end up somewhere in 9.2+ land with speakers everywhere so you'll want a processor/avr that can grow with you. Hope this helps and sorry i could not give a more specific answer, it's just so much of this hobby is personal taste.

      I've actually never heard the SB-1000, But since I'm 90% music and only 10% movies I think if $500 was my budget I'd get the REL 1003, if $400 was my budget I'd step down to $300 and get the Emotiva SE8, it doesn't kick out as much bass but I liked the smaller size a lot and I would save up to plan to add a second one later :D but like all things bass is very personal. The Aperion Bravus 8D is another amazing $400 subwoofer.

      Hey Clos, bass is very personal as far as what is overkill and what is the right amount. It's like how fast should a fast car be, how spicy is too much, etc... It only matters what your taste is :). If you want more bass then for sure add a subwoofer. As far as the SB4000 itself I'd say it just depends how big your room is and if you're doing this for theater or music.

    Good comparisons review. Wattage does not necessarily mean higher volume. Depends on sub design, ie, sealed, ported, size, etc. Some micro-subs have very high wattage but cant provide same slam, impact or volume that larger, ported subs can. I know you mean it in a general sense, but some ppl may take it too literally and may not get the best sub for their needs based on that. Anyway, great channel!

    A small sealed cabinet is gonna have a rapid acoustical roll-off. To combat that, small subs need powefull amps, high excursion drivers and DSP. With more power handling you can DSP your way into even lower regions (just a 6dB attenuation requires twice the amp power). TL/DR: more watts = more better (in general).

      Hey Scott, yeah both of those items go down to 30hz so I'm not sure that would be a good pairing, honestly the S400 is really challenging to pair with a subwoofer anyway because of the rear firing radiator and it makes A LOT of it's own bass already. I have expensive speakers and a nice amp, so I just want to make sure i’m not missing out on anything when it comes to the sub. If we simply look at specs alone (as I trust both companies are honest in my experience) The SB-1000 +/-3db point is 24hz while the L12 -3db point is 18hz. I believe that will translate to a real world difference giving the L12 with it's slightly larger cabinet an edge. • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  3 роки тому

      No, that is a big misconception. Generally speaking high-level inputs are an inferior option. There is only 1 scenario in which high level inputs is a better option and that's if it was specifically engineered and designed to be better which adds significant cost for example: REL, their cheapest 12" subwoofer with high level inputs is $2600, their cheapest 10" is the T9i at $1300. Unless you own a REL subwoofer you should always be using Line inputs. Also consider that the high level inputs typically will simply step down to the Line inputs anyway via some kind of high to low converter, granted their is varying circuitry but generally speaking that's 1 extra step in the chain which is undesirable again unless it was specifically engineered to be better. Like a FWD car is not good for performance but Honda specifically engineered the Civic Type R for performance so even though it is FWD it's still badass, but AWD or RWD is generally better and you would not buy a FWD car of another brand or model expecting performance (outside of a few that are engineered for it specifically).

      @@NemoPropaganda Thanks so much for your clarification. Indeed it was because of my watching videos from REL and Paul McGowan - both of whom advocate high-level inputs - that I came to think high-level inputs were necessarily better. If line level inputs are better, than we would need to spend more money finding a pre-amp or pre-amp section that can act as an active crossover in a purely stereo set-up (ie non home theatre).

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  3 роки тому

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  3 роки тому

      @@drkevintan i suppose you could use a Mini DSP and do something like that but i prefer to run my speakers full range in addition to adding a subwoofer. I don't split the signals nor do i recommend it but a Mini DSP is only $200 so you can certainly experiment with that. There will be some benefit in removing say for example sub 30hz information from smaller bookshelves but i personally feel it's offset by adding an AD to DA conversion and DAC in the mix and relying on the quality of that last DAC in the chain for your final sound quality. I prefer to keep things as simple as possible however I do know other people that rather enjoy having more links in the chain, more settings to adjust and tweak to perfection, etc... Nice dude, looking forward to your thoughts, just remember subwoofer break-in is really a thing so you'll find yourself turning it down over the next 2 weeks as it breaks in. With that said get the phase and crossover right first then adjust gain only as it breaks in.

      @@markcaruso815 ehhh not really but I can give you my own 2 cents. A loose opinion is 8"-12" is good for Music while 15" and larger is better for home theater but again that's generally speaking. Some people use Funk Audio 21" subwoofers for music and absolutely love them. The REL No.25 is also an amazing 15" sub that would be right at home in a music or ht system and on the other hand the 10" RSL speedwoofer thats loved by many for HT duty despite only being 10" and many claim it's excellent for music also. The SVS PB-1000 is another 10" home theater favorite, and the list goes on.

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  3 роки тому

      @@bhar420 if they are both on the same wall they should typically have the same phase settings but testing this way is wildly in accurate. You want to test each subwoofer in the same location with the same phase and then adjust frequency and volume to your liking. For example on the left side of my room a subwoofer will articulate better and have a strong edge to it while on the right side of my room it will dig deeper and lower but if i move it 12" more to the right it looses a lot of it's low end output. Placement is key and since you're evaluating 2 subwoofers you want to put them both in the same spot. Maybe do 1 for a few days then change them out. Also if both subwoofers are new they both need to break in. My SB3000 broke in over a period of 3 weeks while i bought my REL second hand i can't comment but REL themselves recommends break it.

    Very neophyte here. I just discovered and love your reviews; very clear, very non-gushy bs, very convincing imo. Plus, you're certainly no snob in that you allow and acctually respond clearly to good questions here, with no attitude. I greatly respect that.
    One question regarding "music sound quality/capability" especially, and since you have compared SVS SB-2000 Pro (my #1 candidate right now) to the SB-3000:
    Room ~2175 cu ft (13' x 18'); music 80%, TV/Netflix/DVD 20%; volume low to never-above-courteous; mainly classical and blues: speakers are inherited mint B&W 705 (v1):
    what is your experience/feeling/advice regarding SVS SB-2000 Pro vs Rythmik L12 vs REL HT1205 for the described situation? Or BW ASW608/610? 2x (but 2x would have to be below $1K total, so I don't know).
    Thank you and best of luck, really great passion and work.

      Hi friend, if you were 20% music and 80% TV/DVD i would say SVS for sure! But since you are mostly music like I am then L12 or HT-1205 is better in my opinion. What main speakers will you be using?

      www.stereophile.com/standloudspeakers/204bw/index.html
      We inherited them recently, bought a new Int Amp and CD player after 25+ years, and so now are wanting to add a sub. Yes, 70% music 30% HT would be the maximum. We have music on all day, esp w/WFH a lot these days.
      Also I was just looking at 1 v 2 sub discussion, but our max sub budget is really around $800, and so 2 x BW ASW608 or 2 x SVS SB1000 would have to REALLY be very justified to go to $1K. If 2 is even in fact so much preferable to 1.

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  3 роки тому +1

      @@venessian8579 if my maximum budget was $800 with those speakers i would pair them with the Rythmik L12 for sure. At $560 it’s well below budget so if you decide to add a second one it will be much easier. Additionally i think it’ll blend the best as it’s upper bass is a bit more well defined (with slope set to 12db).

      @@NemoPropaganda Super. That was where I was leaning after reading/watching your review and others. I have looked at HSU but no comparative reviews; the REL HT1205 somehow doesn't appeal to me (visually, which is important to me); the Rythmik is nothing special aesthetically but at least is unobtrusive.
      The SVS SB-2000 Pro is very seductive, esp with the DSP, etc., and I like to design the best, tons of great reviews, but you have listened to all these and I cannot. So, I think I will take your generous advice.
      Thank you very much (from SoCal too!).

      @@venessian8579 The SB-2000 Pro is an outstanding subwoofer and the output champion out of all the subwoofers you mentioned so if you're worried about having enough bass the SB-2000 Pro takes care of that problem, they are the most popular subwoofer brand in the world for good reason and it has nearly double the power of the L12. With that said i still think the L12 will be a better fit for your speakers but that's based on my personal taste to some degree (this hobby is very personal) so if the SB-2000 pro is the one you feel an affinity for, go with that one. They have a 45 day in home trial so it's risk free :).
