Thank you for your videos. A lot of these tips are things my mother has already taught me through life but when im so bogged down I don't remember them. Hearing the reminder from you to do just one wall of your shower or just go through and pick up trash or set a 15 minute timer, has been helping me actually put it into practice. So thank you, if nothing else I have been keeping my shower clean for a few months thanks to you ❤️ It really feels good. My whole house is a mess so I knew I needed to start on day one of this house restart plan. My ambition wants greater things done, so thank you for the reminder to start with trash and laundry.
I’m going to attempt to follow along, despite being a few days behind. We are moving in July and my house is overwhelming. I need to make things feel manageable before the packing starts.
Before I had a baby in the house again, this was my favorite way to do laundry. Now, my little tornado makes such a mess if I try to do laundry. Looking forward to when I can get back to my preferred method!
Sarah, my house is a disaster. I keep starting and then having to start over. May I ask your opinion? I plan to restart the reset today, but I have ideas of some tasks to pair with it. I still have Christmas decorations to put away 😳🤦🏻♀️. I’m considering doing your reset while also working on the project of actually getting Christmas put up. (It’s not even like the Christmas decorations look nice as I mostly pulled them out to use and never got to it except in the living room. Everything is covered in scattered Christmas decorations and now dust. I was diagnosed with diabetes last year. So, I’m coming out of being exhausted for a long time, and now I also have plantar fasciitis as I took up walking and jogging to help control the disease. I have lost fifty pounds since last summer, though. Yay!!! Go me!!!) I also want to simultaneously work on establishing one singular habit: working on the dishes every day. I don’t have a dishwasher. So, it takes a bit, but, for a short while, I was having success body doubling with you using a video you made while you cleaned your kitchen. Is this too much? I don’t feel like it is, but I always hear that you need to start really small. So, is this small enough?
First of all, what an amazing achievement to have changed so much in your physical health! I personally know how hard it is to change food and movement habits. You're on fire! I think you could pair the decorations with the Reset if you do it during the first half of the reset because the 2nd half gets more into decluttering and organizing the rest of the house, and is more time-consuming. Doing the dishes daily is a great habit-it makes such a difference because it makes working in the kitchen so much easier if you don't have to deal with piles of dishes first. You could also try putting on a comfort show or listening to a podcast while you do the dishes. If you make a routine where the dishes aren't a punishment but instead a time when you can watch a show or listen to a good audiobook, it can make a big difference. Everyone is different, so I'm not sure if this is too much or is just right for you. But here's what I'd suggest. Look at the Reset checklists and pick the most important 1 or 2 tasks from the list as your priority. Do those first. If you don't finish the checklist on that day, don't start over the next day- just pick another thing or 2 from what didn't get done. It's totally normal to take a few days to work on 1 day. There have been times when I've been so sick or busy that 1 day took me a week to get through. The goal here is to get into a rhythm of working at our capacity- we don't want to do too much because that can be exhausting and discourage us from getting anything done the next day. Slow and steady is my mantra. I'm cheering for you and hope you'll keep letting me know if you have questions or want me to weigh in on something you're grappling with!
@@SarahMcGloryHome, this is what I need to hear! Thank you!!! I often have expectations for myself that are too high, and, when I struggle to meet them, I internally beat myself up. Hearing that I can make Day One take more than one day makes me feel so good ❤️❤️❤️.
Tips for starting this with a house disaster? I could easily get bogged down in a paper pile for garbage or the side of a bed. Timer works best after getting the basics done? Halp!
The first time I did this reset, my mindset was still that of a perfectionist. So if the task was "pick up trash from around the house," I went crazy trying to do every bit. What I've found is that I don't need to think I must get everything done in a reset. I definitely use timers and just do what I have the time and energy to do. I've done this reset like 6 times, and each time it's easier because I've steadily worked on what I could. What you don't want to do is feel that it's CRUCIAL to fully complete each task. If you have to spend ages on this reset and feel frustrated that you can't get it all done, you won't keep going. And the best thing you can do is trust that "some is better than none." Regarding your example about papers- I'd set a timer and sort papers into "keep" and "trash." (If you have old Amazon boxes you can keep the papers in and clearly label, that would be great.) Don't worry about filing the "keep" papers or sorting those right now. Once your timer goes off, if there's more to sort, put them in a bag or box labeled "needs sorting" and move on. Please let me know if there are more specifics you'd like an opinion on!
You're not a mess!! I bet you've got a story going that you can't do it no matter what you try. I used to have the worst stories playing in my head nonstop. Looking back, it's no wonder I wasn't making progress- I was so sure I would fail. Maybe try a timer and work on one task that is the most important to you for 15 minutes. Quit when the timer goes off. If you feel you can try another task for 15 minutes later, great. Either way, try to cheer yourself a little for what you've done. If you can't, know that I'm cheering for you. 💚
If you can’t get past day one, move onto the next day. You don’t have to complete anything, as long as you started and tried. The most important thing is following the program, not doing everything perfectly.
Starting today. So overwhelmed and have too much stuff, but just keep thinking if I could organize it - all would be well.
I've been there so many times. I'm someone who has to slowly declutter. I have a lot of attachment to my stuff. But a little at a time is progress!

I can relate! My brain hates cleaning so much, that I easily forget the basics and to pace myself. I'm really proud of you for working intentionally!
❤
I've done your home reset and adaptive cleaning routines for a while now - very excited to follow along with your videos this month! Thank you, Sarah!
Yay, I'm so glad you're here!

You're not behind, just jump in! It will help so much before moving!
I felt accomplished with the 1st day of the reset! Thank you for this ❤
I'm so glad! Cheering you on!
I hate putting away laundry so I always pick a good movie and watch it while I put it away! 😁 Also Yeahyah I found your UA-cam! 👏👏

Starting today🎉
Yayyy!
Where does recycling belong?
Starting this today. Thank you very much.
I do recycling along with trash.
Of course! I'm excited for you!
