Hi my name is Sarah! I was diagnosed with multiple autoimmune diseases in my 20s but kept speeding onward, determined that nothing would change about my lifestyle. After fifteen years of perfectionism, I hit a wall and realized I needed to make serious changes in how I treated myself. I began correcting my mindset around productivity, particularly as it pertains to house-care tasks. That work transformed my life and became the Adaptive Cleaning system. I now advocate for those of us with chronic physical and mental health conditions via online content, group classes, and individual work.
Pick your pain
The idea that I get to “pick my pain” has been helpful for me, because short term Sarah likes to pretend that there will be oodles of energy in the future. 🧐 The task won’t be any more fun if I do it in a week or 2, and if I wait, the task will usually be harder. I still only do what I have the capacity to do, but I try hard to address the task on some level.

Here's why the toilet still smells after you clean it
Переглядів 1,6 тис.День тому
If your toilet is still smelly after you clean it, you may need to deep clean it like I did for mine. Your toilet seat might come off with screws, or you may have latches that allow you to pop off/on the seat. I highly recommend some gloves when you go into this task, and a flashlight and mirror might help you see the underside of the toilet a little better. The stiff-bristled brushes were 4 fo...

Executive Dysfunction FREEZE

What helps to snap you out of executive dysfunction freeze? This works for me about 95% of the time because I don't put pressure on myself to be ultra productive. I just ask myself to get moving and do 15 minutes. My ADHD tells me that a task will take a lot longer than it actually will. Breaking it down into pieces helps me know what to do next, but also lets me know that I can just do the parts I have the time & energy to do! That looks super oily after. You did not address that part.
Yay! Our laundry feels under control now and that alone is a huge deal. This was really helpful can't wait to do the series again in a little bit
I'm so glad! Great job!!
Use bleach not essential oils! Great honest video though.
What's the cleaning planner that you use? I feel like I need "where do I start?" pre-decided for me. Spinning my wheels has been a struggle for my whole life. Thanks for sharing your snippets of kind wisdom.
Yes! Deciding what to do is so hard for me. Here's the link, or I'm putting it in the video description too, if that's easier: www.sarahmcglory.com/online-store/Adaptive-Cleaning-System-Printable-p535287874
OH YEA THATS MY MOM YEAAAAAA😀😀😀YOU GOT THIS MOM
THAT'S MY BABY!! THANK YOU! 🤩
Almost to the end! This has been a great series
Great job!! I'm so glad it's been helpful!
I feel this 100%!
Yes!
I work full time so I'm exhausted when I get home. I started writing a list of what I would like to get done and I do something every morning and another night. Sometimes I could actually do more than one once I get started.Other times I can barely get one thing done other than feed myself and my husband. I've decided that that's got to be OK. And when I'm really feeling in a work mode like this weekend.I just keep going with small breaks in between.
I think that's so healthy. Changing my expectations of my reality has been HUGE for learning how to work in a realistic way.
I love this! I really wanted to get some windows cleaned this weekend but hate to do window's. Hence they're filthy since I haven't cleaned all of them for nearly 4 years. So I broke it down and deep cleaned one 8ft sliding glass door yesterday and will be finishing two more doors today. Only 13 more regular windows to go on my main floor this year. 😮 The basement windows will have to wait for another year.😂
That’s so funny! I just finished cleaning the 2 worst windows and it exhausted me, but at least those are clean! I can do more later! Good job for breaking it down!
I keep seeing this right AFTER I've just convinced myself to get up and do A Single Thing
Nice!
Who is the world has the time to deep clean their toilet every month, especially in today's world where every home has at least two or three or more! ( powder room downstairs, kids bathroom upstairs, master bath) Once a year, maybe, but probably not! At least in my home!
100% agree! I think it comes from influencers needing to make consistent content. I certainly don't know anyone who has that kind of time!
The first time seeing your video and May I Say Thank You.. I felt I was the only one... 🎉
You're definitely not the only one and I'm so glad you're here!
🦋 lately my one thing is watching your videos. Not giving up though 🦋
Proud of you! There are times when existing takes all our effort. It'll get better. 💚
I hate them
What is that power scrubber you have? I was literally just researching trying to find a good one last night
I have one by Oraimo, but I'm searching for a better one myself. I really like it but it seems like the spinning should be going in the other direction, so it's hard to control.
Hi Sarah please don't be offended but you may want to put the tether ball away when your children aren't using it. You're little girl is still pretty young and it's a strangulation danger 😔 God bless you ☺️
No offense taken! Our backyard is actually a steep hill, so the littles don't go outside without supervision:) God bless you too!
My problem is continuing. After a few minutes, everything within me is dragging me to go and sit down and avoid it all.
Maybe 5 minute increments are enough right now? Perhaps if you can be intentional about the 5 minutes, but also accept that it's enough, your resistance will fade and you can cater to your body asking for a break.
Thank you for your videos. A lot of these tips are things my mother has already taught me through life but when im so bogged down I don't remember them. Hearing the reminder from you to do just one wall of your shower or just go through and pick up trash or set a 15 minute timer, has been helping me actually put it into practice. So thank you, if nothing else I have been keeping my shower clean for a few months thanks to you ❤️ It really feels good. My whole house is a mess so I knew I needed to start on day one of this house restart plan. My ambition wants greater things done, so thank you for the reminder to start with trash and laundry.
I can relate! My brain hates cleaning so much, that I easily forget the basics and to pace myself. I'm really proud of you for working intentionally!
❤
Ok.....i heard what you said! I promise! .....but....the eyebrow brushing was soooooo satisfying 😮. What is that magic brush of eyebrow paint?!!
This is such an underrated brow gel, imo! It's the ColourPop brow gel, and it's cheaper than most drugstore makeup. I get it at Ulta.
Thanks
I wish more people tuned in to you. You changed everything for me
That's so kind of you to say! It means a lot to me.
Which of your documents is shown at the end? <3
It’s the Adaptive Cleaning system that’s printable (or can be used digitally with a PDF annotation app).
@@SarahMcGloryHome awesome! thank you!
I’m going to work on my unpacked bathroom today. One thing at a time. 😵💫
Yes!! It seems insurmountable, but you’re the boss- just work on it for whatever length of time you feel comfortable with!
I see that you took off the rubber gasket without taking off the front panel. Do you think it's possible to put the rubber gasket back on without taking off the front panel?
I think it is, it's just a little tighter of a space.
Wow, amazing. I will now proceed to throw my washer away. Unless you do house calls? :)
You have no idea how many times I wanted to rage-throw the washer out a window!
This is me. I want my home to be perfectly clean so much that I can’t even start cleaning. Straightening up isn’t good enough, I need my floors to be spotless.
I'm a recovering perfectionist, so I totally get it!
…this is me❤ Life has been lifing.
I really hope things settle down for you soon! ♡
Thanks sweets❤ I pray things come together for you as well on this beautiful journey!
Thank you for letting us walk with you❤❤
Of course!
Dude I completely relate to this. It’s misery. I would live in a nightmare for months, savagely deep clean for a week, keep in that way for maybe a month then repeat the cycle.
YES!! I get fatigued easily, too, so I'd absolutely exhaust myself trying to "catch up" and then couldn't do even priority cleaning for a week. Miserable.
Right there with ya!!
Does is it get rid of odor?
The vinegar is great for getting rid of odors.
@@SarahMcGloryHome thanks
I can't wait to watch these! :) I have been struggling with depression and ADHD for many years. 💖
It presents so many challenges! We need all the tools!
@@SarahMcGloryHome I am very fortunate that my father was a chart person. He basically created his own charts and systems for things. I have over the years made different ones for myself. They are adaptable as well but in different ways than this. I know everyone is different, so this is good to see how different people have come up with systems that have worked for them! And it's overwhelming at first for me, but I am going to watch and process to see if any aspects of this help me. For mine, when I had my cleaning chart on the wall I made, I would print them out. Each would have two weeks. The highlighted 3 were the non-negotiables. The rest was as much as I could do for that day, and as long as I got most of them done once a week I was good. One example was to feed the pets, that is a non negotiable . You can't not feed them, and to take prescriptions. The rest I gave myself flexibility on. And I would adjust them here and there depending on what was going on in my life.
As I am trying to get routines in place, I figure if I can get something to look 85% better or be at 85% cleanliness, I'm good. 85% is at least presentable.
I always heard, "Don't do a thing unless you're going to do it 100%." That doesn't work for me and it's too much pressure! Every little bit counts, is my new mantra. Cheering you on as you get routines worked out!
@SarahMcGloryHome ❤️ your comment. I have chronic lung disease (clearing lungs 3x/day) and a weakened immune system (lots of colds). I, too, have a lot of low capacity days. I'm also healing from recently-discovered lifelong narcissistic abuse from family and others starting in babyhood. There was a lot of psychological conditioning to be small, fear others and their assessment of me, etc. I didn't do a lot of home care because of the emotional and psychological damage that kept me holding back to be "safe". Now that I'm getting that nonsense out of me, I'm working to take up space and forge my own path at almost age 60, such as it is. Starting small with some small routines and organically allowing things to fall into place in their time seems to be working. My dishes are kept on top of now every day. 🙌

Oh Sarah, I'm so sorry, that sounds miserable! I applaud you for getting up, and getting dressed, and facing the world! I also am quite impressed that you said half-hearted, I've only known the more child inappropriate version. 😂
Ha! Well, my big kids watch my videos, and I never know who is watching and has their own kids in the background listening:) Thank you so much! The antibiotics are finally starting to work. The ear thing has me so dizzy and with this loud ringing 24/7, so I'm happy that that's easing.
Time is always a great gift no matter the shape it takes. Love you sister!
So true! Love you too!
Thank you. This was very reassuring.
I'm so glad!
Love seeing y'all working together as a family. You are both amazing parents!
Aw thank you so much!!
What a great husband and daddy! Thank you Kwame for helping my darling. I love y’all.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
He's the best! I love you!
First 🙌🏽 This was my house this morning! The kids (mine are all older) did a good job picking up while I was sick, but the kitchen was absolutely insane and stinky!!😂🤷🏽♀️ oh well, that's what a rest is for.💖💖💖
It happens to all of us! I hope you feel 100% soon!
I was reading an article on "your tango" and it had your video about cleaning with executive dysfunction. I hopped over to your channel and I'm blown away!!!!! Thank you for sharing all of your tips and tricks! I'm now power watching as many as I can! A swiffer around the toilet? GENIUS!! I also have ADHD, major executive dysfunction and time blindness along with fibromyalgia and so many more! 🤦🏼♀️😂 I'm really interested in your lists on your website!! I'm wondering if the Bundle also includes the Adaptive Cleaning System or if that's another one too? I can't thank you enough for sharing your struggles and accomplishments...... even on those painful days! 🤗❤️
Wow, I had no idea it was on there! Oh I can relate to all you're saying- I have multiple AI diseases and pairing it with ADHD makes life interesting! 😅 Yes, the bundle includes the Adaptive Cleaning System and the Home Reset! I'm so glad you resonate with the content and thank you for the kind words!!
Great video. I found this gunk on my old washer and ordered a new one because it seemed too hard to clean and not worth it for a 15 year old machine. Now I'm thinking to cancel the order and get a top loading one instead.
So. Much. Detail. Thanks for making this video. You did such a great job explaining everything from start to finish. And you’re right, “all the other” videos do skip over a lot of detail, and make it look so easy. I have a 12 year old LG with the steam option, and over the past 12 years, have had 8 dogs, and 2 cats, and there’s ALOT of gunk and hair in there. And who knows what else. And give yourself more credit. You ARE strong enough to get those springs back on. You’re just not the contortionist LG expects 😂 …..I’m fused from L-1 to S-1. This should be fun. I just took apart my LG Dryer and did a deep clean of the heating element and the lint trap / exhaust system and it was PACKED as was the electrical heating element from dog hair. But the dryer is so much more efficient now and saves money not running so hard. Thanks again for the great video. You’re a fantastic human. 🎉
You're so sweet! I'd love to take apart the dryer! We're renting now, so I think that's off limits, but I just know there's a ton of lint back there.
Thanks! I had to pull out the door rubber so I could remove the faulty door lock mechanism. When I pulled it forward, I saw that only one of the 2 hose connectors on the orange plastic had a black rubber hose connected and I started to panic that I may have lost a hose inside. Luckily I found your video that clearly shows it's part of the design, and I can breathe again 😁 I ordered a replacement part for the door lock mechanism, which took me less than 5 minutes to remove... DE2 error...
I do this too - group objects w/o regular homes together & then give myself a “cooling off period” to detach from the items. Works great with my 9yo as well. We call it the “maybe pile.”
So helpful! Calling it "maybe" really takes the charge out of it!
Thank you for this series! I so appreciate you ❤️
Of course! I hope it continues to help!
Good idea. I guess those things we have kept for YEARS probably are things we could do without! 😮
When I made the connection that I have to take care of stuff, whether I use it or not, it was a lightbulb moment for me!
Oh my gosh, binge watching your shorts and you are encouraging! I don't have the energy but still need to clean my house, my kids 19 year old boy, 20 year old girl and 14 year old girl living with me don't help single mom me, what to do, I don't know??🥴
They don't make those scouring sticks like they used to. I used them years ago, they were the best! Bought one months ago and it seemed to dissolve and crumble in the water so fast🥴
I fall into every one of these categories 🥴 (Dercums Disease) I also make content but haven't uploaded in 7 months I've been so extremely fatigued and just about done with all my labs and imaging so me and my doctor can evaluate what's going on. My house has 9 in and out rescue kitties and 3 teenagers, all of whom help stink up and dirty the house but don't help clean anything, and I haven't cleaned but the dishes and laundry in 7 months. Now a UA-cam friend is coming to Arizona where I live from Colorado, I told him I can't afford to do anything at the end of the month being on my SSDI fixed income and he said no problem, I'll come to you, saves you money and energy. How do I clean at least my living room and kitchen space in 24 hours especially when I don't know where to put all the cluttered boxes full of yard sale hope to sell someday stuff and work on the pet smell up in here🤦 Thanks😊
I've been sick so I'm sorry I'm seeing this comment late! I'm glad you have a friend coming! For future, if I was trying to tidy within one day, I'd throw everything I didn't know what to do with into bins and put those to the side. Then throw out trash. With boxes of yard sale stuff, you can put them all in one space, because just grouping stuff together helps reduce the cluttered look. But, I'd also ask myself if I really want to deal with the boxes and whether I think I'll actually do a yard sale (I'm someone who used to hold onto stuff like crazy, thinking I'd sell it, but I never got around to it.) Then I'd vacuum as much as I could. Regarding smell, scentsy's or candles, but also spraying disinfectant on the clear surfaces and letting it sit for 10 minutes before wiping it away. I hope you have fun with your friend!
@@SarahMcGloryHome Ooooo great advice! And same lol, it's easy to say "I'm going to have a yard sale" every couple days, reminded by all the stacked boxes around but I don't know why it's hard to pick up and start that sale. I hope you feel better now! I know the feeling. P.S. Talking to you is like talking to a best friend and just as warm and caring😊 Thanks!
