Riding in upstate NY and all throughout the new England states during the fall is the BEST. Nothing like it
What a beautiful ride, thank you for sharing!
Hey there,
Long time NH resident. I grew up in MA, and everyone down there mispronounces this roadway. The correct spelling is “KANCAMAGUS”. Note there is only one “N”. It is pronounced: “cank-ah-mah-gus”.
Local knowledge: some of the best of the “Kank” is route 112 west of Lincoln (and I-93) to Woodsville, with less tourist traffic. Also, route 118 from Woodstock to Warren is a great piece of road that you can use to make a loop with the western Kank.
Ok, one more tip: When you get to the east end of Hurricane Mt. Rd., head north on route 113, which runs along the NH / ME border. You’ll go up through Evan’s Notch on a seasonal road that is tight and twisty like Hurricane Mt, but without as much elevation change. At the end it will dump you out on US Route 2 between Gorham, NH and Bethel, ME.
Hi Tim - Great video as always. I have ventured up to the Kank and Hurricane Mt Road many times living in Maine and it is indeed everything you stated in this video. I'm super glad the KLR is working out for you and it's performing on those mountain roads just like you expected. Always fun watching your moto-travel videos Tim. Keep up the good work and ride safe!
Thanks Rick!
Thanks Tim for showing the camera footage of the ride with no running dialog. I always enjoy the scenery and roads more that way, great stuff!
Great roads. Hurricane Mountain Road is twisty enough you can almost see your own taillights.
Awesome riding road at Hurricane My trail. Thanks for sharing.
That looked like a newly paved race track !
Tim my man, putting some miles on the new horse. Hope she's treating you good. Stay cool
Super road! I lived 6 yrs ago in Manchester NH. Went to White Mountains once with family, awesome place. The only time I rode a motorcycle in the states was on Daytona Beach FL. Use to ride in the woods full of sand. The good old days. Nowadays, planning to get my first adventure bike and document.
Been to both places plus Bear Notch road many many many times. In Tucson since 2020.
Would also recommend Bear Notch Rd...all 3 are great..just not on a weekend in October!!
You are welcome to camp creek side on our farm Along Lake Ontario near Oswego NY .
Great camp spot . Lots of wildlife. Pick your own eggs for breakfast if you want. Fresh veggies in garden. Happy to have you. No worries on any issue . Full shop for any mechanical issues . Great campfire all set up . Salmon River Falls and salmon hatchery close by lots of history content spots.
I’m unfortunately already out of the area but that would have been awesome. Sounds like a really great spot!
@@FTAAdventures you are always welcome put it on your map . Several other motovloggers have it pinned.
Those look like some great roads. I’m enjoying your tour of the east coast. I’m out here in AZ now and miss that part of the country. These videos are really inspiring me to do a trip out east next summer. Ride safe, be safe. 👊
Lol everyone does that. It's Kancamagus. But most people in the North East add the extra N for some reason. Hurricane road, something I will have to search for!
I used to say it like that. It's really Kankamagus Highway. :)
And it's beyond gorgeous in the fall, except every blue-hair in the free world is there too.
Think 32 mph. 🥺
Oops didn’t realize I was saying that wrong, I swear I heard other people say it that way. Oh well.
@@FTAAdventures If I hadn't said it wrong and spelled it wrong so often and for so long, I wouldn't have noticed. But a salty Vermont housewife (and BMW rider) set me straight, so I remembered. Perfection is elusive. 😁
Miss it so much.
If I ever make it to the Northeast that's definitely going to be on my must ride list. Thanks for scouting and showing us the really cool places
You bet!
agreed.. great roads!
Looks more like a paved greenway than a road.....lol
Tim, I've been following your channel for several years now. I discovered you in late 2019 barely pre-Covid 2020 and learned from you many great tips on moto camping and long trip preparation. In 2020 when Covid lockdown turned into cabin fever, I put to use much of your shared knowledge on several solo West Coast trips. Paso Robles California, King Pines National Forest, Big Sur Highway (and all the side roads off from that, still my very favorite area to ride) and a summertime Northwestern states 4 week trip. At the time, I lived in Ramona California just 10 miles from your favorite pie store in Santa Ysabel. :) Today, I now live in Brownfield Maine just 10 miles from the entrance to the Kancamangus Highway entrance in Conway New Hampshire. A very close riding taste coincidence don't you think. :) We clearly have similar taste in what makes a fantastic ride. All rides are fantastic... well almost all...but some are just better than others. Next time you're up this way ring me up and I'll show you several roads similar to Hurricane Mountain Road. How do I get you my phone# or e mail without posting it here? Keep up the great content.
Thank you, I’m glad to hear my videos were helpful! We definitely have similar taste in travel! You can email me here: Fortytimesaround@gmail.com
I live near the Kank. Best time to ride this is mid-week. Less traffic.
Thanks for another great video Tim. The next time you are in that area, you might want to try Maine Rt. 113. It's a bit north of Hurricane Mountain Road, running along the Maine - New Hampshire border through the White Mountain National forest up to Bethel. It is miles of motorcycle heaven.
I rode it southbound, with my son, as part of an awesome Father's Day trip this past spring.
Hi Tim. I had a KLR for 5 years. Tip: keep a spare clutch handle neutral switch, I was on #3... Push start button, by 15000 miles mine went out.
That bike will take a beating! No cajones, but has a low cost of ownership.
Take care.
That is good to know! Thanks
Cool road.. Definitely looks fun. Will put it on the list when I get into that area. Thanks for sharing
Another great video Tim… I live less than 30 minutes from The Kank and I ride it often in a local loop of mine. I hadn’t been on Hurricane yet this year because it had been in rough shape but thanks to your video I see it has new back top which is great so I’ll get over there in a day or two. The GoPro just does not capture the elevation changes with the curves but it is super fun to ride and it does test your skills. That’s for sharing and I’m thrilled your health has improved so you post again. Keep them coming. Cheers!
What a great road and what an enjoyable video. Usually I watch rides in the US and think "we have nothing like that over here". Finally I can say that I have ridden roads in England, Scotland and Wales that look a lot like that.
Hi Tim, nice road! Greetings from Michael from Germany!
Damn wish we had caught up when you were in NH / VT. Glad to see your posts again ! Welcome home!!
Sorry I missed you!
No big deal, but it’s spelled Kancamagus. Nice video, riding up there on Friday, can’t wait.
Awesome, as always TC!
Can't believe I was right near there last summer and didn't find that!
In case you haven't done it yet (though you probably have), the inbound and outbound access roads for Mt Greylock in MA are freakin' spectacular.
A HUGE Vietnam War memorial at the summit. A fantastic ride to a special monument with an unbelievable view.
Hope you can try that whenever you're back in New England.
Tim, great to see you getting up to my neck of the woods so frequently. If you are still in the area later in the season, the Kancamagus is a must-ride during peak foliage. It's mobbed with tourists, but still worth it, IMO. And I'm saying this as someone who has lived in New England most of my life and kind of take it for granted at this point. You should also check out Sandwich Notch Rd, if you haven't already. Right near Tripoli Rd where you were on a previous trip. It's kind of a local Mecca for the ADV crowd. Also Bear Notch Rd, which intersects the Kancamagus. There are some fun forest service roads to explore off Bear Notch as well.
Tim I rode over there on my old vt500 .Enjoy the Ride !
thank you bro.
Ha I gassed up at that same Circle K in early August on my camping trip.
nice ride. bear notch road off the kancamagus[it doesn't have an "n" in it] is another great road.
Another great video. I ordered your book and it came in yesterday so I can’t wait to read it when I get home. Safe travels.
I bought the book the other day too. Good stuff to read when you cant be out on the bike during the week.
Amazing road tim. Beautiful smooth surface and not a pothole to be seen. The exact opposite of roads here in Australia at the moment!
To be fair, it's the exact opposite of MOST roads in New Hampshire also, but the state has been on a bit of a paving spree this past year with some the roads in the roughest shape. As a dirt-oriented rider, I have mixed feelings about it, as paving really makes the roads less exciting (for me) and also hugely increases thr tourist traffic. But for some roads like Hurricane Mountain, it does make it a lot safer and more rideable for most motorcyclists.
Nice ride 👍🏼
Nice road Tim, Wish I would have known about it when we were up in NH.👍
Good to see you breaking in that KLR.
I hope all is well brother.
Thank you all is well here, hope you’re well too!
I've driven the Kancamagus Highway in a car....would love to ride it! I'm surprised you didn't really show the neat parts with the switchbacks and vistas.
Hi Tim,
It's good to see that you are on the road and posting videos again.
I think it's interesting that you now ride the KLR. I ride a Gen II KLR and an early 1200GS myself.
It sounds like you have the same impression of these bikes that I do. It's interesting to me that I've come to enjoy the Kawasaki more over time. Living in the mountains of So CA I have instant access to dirt and paved roads in the forest. It's great fun riding up here. And now that I've lived with it awhile I'd have no problem riding it across the country on secondary roads.
I hope your trip back to Arizona goes well and you enjoy the KLR.
Take care.
Thanks Brian! I'm loving the KLR so far, it's treating me well. Lots of great riding in So Cal!
Hey Tim another great video!!! It is always great to see you ride roads where we live and ride. Hope you enjoyed the your time in the NE!! Ya it time to ride on the season is going change quick this year!
I have written both those roads many times absolutely gorgeous
Nice man! Rode and camped there (Elbow Pond near Woodstock) my first night was there the beginning of my trip. 11,209 miles and 82 days. Maine - Cannon Beach Oregon. Safe travels home and the inspiration to do such a trip. Best decision I made!
Sounds like an epic adventure!
I’ve done both of those rides and they are awesome. Love riding in that part of the country.
Difficult to see the squiggly road until you had the jeep in front of you. Stunning road. Looked like a good day on the bike. That area appears to be a nice place to camp. ❤📷🏍💕 🏕👍🏼
Love your videos and your approach to travel, motorcycling, life...
Insider tip for getting in the good graces of the NH locals... no N in the second syllable of Kanc-a-magus. Please, no kanc-a-maNg-us.
just sayin'. Thanks for all of the great content.
Thanks for the heads up!
Beautiful area. Chin up wheels down.
Nice looking road, looked freshly paved.
Hi Tim - loved the video. Myself and three riding buddies rode from Indiana to Mass in 2020 to stay with my family and ride the Kancamagus Highway. My family use to camp at the Sacco River Camp ground area in my youth, and we would ride the Kanc and float in the Swift River. It was still a great road with fantastic views, and a bit more commercialized than it was 5 decades ago. Did you ride Bear Notch Rd., which is just off the Kancamagus?....great road and was recently re-paved when we took it in 2020. Ride Safe and safe travels.
Nice! I didn’t ride the bear notch pass this time around, it’s a great road though
Nice. Like driving in a tree tunnel.
nice vid. nice road but it aint no dragon
Hello Tim. Hope all is well. I seen the title and I had to watch this one. Been to New Hampshire many times. One of my favorite places- mountains and views. A couple of years ago I did that road during the fall. It was just beautiful. If I may here is a link to that ride- ua-cam.com/video/bKPXJR8UhB8/v-deo.html. When I get back up there I’ll have to travel hurricane mountain road. Hope you had safe travels and next time your in Massachusetts maybe we could meet up for lunch. Let me know. Safe travels.
Wow, absolutely beautiful scenery. Really enjoyed the ride. How's the KLR going?
KLR is great so far, I posted a video recently about my initial thoughts on the bike.
@@FTAAdventures Thanks, just checked out the KLR video, great and very interesting. Just bought the Adventure model and love it so far. Stay safe dude, love your vids.
Hey Tim! Awesome content as usual, and I’m happy to see you getting along well with the KLR. Would you ever consider doing some suspension upgrades such as fork springs and emulators along with a rear adjustable shock to tailor it to yourself and gain some adjustability and serviceability?
Yes definitely considering something like that eventually.
Hurricane Mtn Rd looked almost as if it could be a one direction rd. Rode Kancamangus hwy yrs ago. Have you ridden the Lincoln Hwy in N.H? It's a little west of Lincoln or Lincolnton N. H. Enjoyed the video. RIDE SAFE
Haven't done the Lincoln Hwy, I'll have to check that out next time.
@@FTAAdventures I made a mistake. It's a section of hwy 118 between Warren and Lincoln called the Sawyer Hwy.
Beautiful ride…!!!
Thanks for sharing this….
Btw, how are you liking the KLR..?
Loving it so far!
Hey Tim, love you channel! Question for you, what pannier racks did you use on the KLR 650? I have the same Mosko Bags, but still need to buy the racks.
I think I was using the Dirt Racks.
Hi Tim, my question is about the tent. I really can't decide which of the two Lonerider tents I should get. Why you chose the adv tent and not the Moto tent? In some of your video the camp site is big enough for it. And doesn't the 1 meter hight bother you? Thank you and cheers from Greece!!!
Wait a minute, you're in my state, lol. Like your video's Tim. Are you still running the stock seat on that KLR? thanks, enjoying my Traveler also.
Still have the stock seat but planning to change it soon
How is the new bike treating you?
Great video! What jacket are you wearing?
Rev’it Horizon 2
Which navigation app do you use Tim? I see lots of guys who do long distance on a bike using dedicated GPS units… doesn’t look like you use one (just the phone?)
I purchased the Loneraider tent as you have and have not tried it yet will next year i will anyhow are you satisfied with it? is it easy to put up?
Regards Eivind from Norway.
Tim I am planning a trip to Arkansas Ozark mountains leaving from Dallas tx, what places do you recommend to camp and also roads to take during this trip?
Definitely ride the Pigtail in Arkansas. There's lots of great camping in the Ozarks, you really can't go wrong there. Have a great trip!
@@FTAAdventures Thanks, I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions
I would never pull out behind some guys noisy harley!!!! Let them get down the road !!!🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🏍🏍🏍 hey rider what model is your jacket ??? Do you like it????
Revit horizon 2, and yes I do like it
