@@Magnus_Magnusson_702 an acquaintance owned a 2015 Chevy Cruze. He owned it for 150k miles. In that time the alternator died, the turbo blew twice, and a sensor failed, killing another sensor simultaneously, which caused the transmission to downshift into 2nd gear at 80mph. Scared him so bad he fixed it and immediately sold it. I'd say GM Korea cars are better overall than those circa 2000 Daewoos, but they're still not great cars. The 1.2L turbo in the Trax/Envista has a timing belt instead of a timing chain as a cost cutting measure, which is pretty unheard of these days among small engines. @RowdyMagnusson, and your point is? The previous Encore was built in South Korea and consistently rated very high in reliability and was Buick’s best selling model. By the way, the Cruze was NOT a Daewoo built product. The Sonic was, two totally different cars. The 1.4 Ecotec in the Cruze was designed by Opel in Germany, not by Daewoo and the engines put in US models were built in Michigan so the engine problem you mention has nothing to do with Daewoo.
This seems like the answer I’ve been looking for I drive a 2018 BMW 640i gran turismo which they stop making. I wish this had four-wheel-drive though maybe in a year or two if it does, I’m on it.
I read somewhere that the 1.2 engine has an oil soaked timing belt, and oil soaked oil pump belt??? But the 1.3 has a timing chain. If that’s the case, why wouldn’t they just put the 1.3 in the Buick?
As with the Trax, they created something more affordable and entry level for their brands, which is welcome when the average transaction price for a vehicle in the US is close to $50k. That's also why they used the older 6-speed automatic instead of the newer GM CVT or the 9 speed since the 6-speed is cheaper to make.
This is the most compelling thing garbage motors has made in decades. It’s been using a Toyota aisin transmission. (Shame it’s not using a Toyota motor too) but between that and the stunning looks it makes me almost want to buy one.
Likely just cut for time due to TV related time constraints but we averaged 32.9 MPGs in our test loop. The information is available on our website: motorweek.org/road-tests/2024-buick-envista/
Too bad these are made in Korea. But 9.0 seconds to 60 is fine for that kind of vehicle, and that price is not bad. But that brake light design is insane. Hope they can get an AWD version without asking much more money. Sick of the $45k entry level cars these days.
Since it's intended to be Buick's entry-level model, they've omitted AWD to keep cost down. Same reason for the smallest engine and old-school 6-speed auto.

Good luck the those who own an Envista. I purchase the one in ocean blue and love it!
Pretty solid for the price!
I keep seeing these on the road and it turns my head every time. Unfortunately finding out that it only has an underpowered fwd power train was truly disappointing. Really hoping there’s a more powerful awd model available in the future.
Beautiful!! Good job Buick, you got a winner🤙🏻
Are the brake lights really down in the bumper and the basic taillights up high?????
Buick needs to go back to making good cars again here in NA...I had a 98 Buick LeSabre, one of the best cars I've ever owned until subframe rotted. Most people aren't even aware Buick is even still around.
I seen one in Avenir in Pearl White with the 20" premium wheels and it looked tf GOOD. This should have been bigger and made it Enclave or better yet Electra with the twin turbo v6....priced at 60k for top trim out the door with all options. Looks very similar to the Lamborghini Urus
3:53 Brake lights in the bumper and inoperative high mounted light... great way to get rear ended.
He's not stepping on the brakes at 3:53. Do you really think that the CHMSL is "inoperative"? LOL
He is at the start of the drag strip and you can see the center mount brake light isn't working.
@@palebeachbum it's working at the stopping distance check. The shot at an angle at the drag strip start is because LED brightness peters off the more off angle you go and the shot from center rear is because LED light disappears faster than the incandescent lamps in the bumper
@@tedunguent156 the driver is releasing the brakes at 3:53 and at 4:19. @4:30 the driver is using the breaks ... Break lights should be at the car waist for better visibility.
This car is remarkably similar to the current gen Citroën C4. The body style is similar, both being coupe-like crossovers. Even the engines are similar, the Citroën also has a 1.2 liter turbo 3-cylinder with similar power. However, the Citroën has an 8-speed automatic, compared to the Buick's 6-speed.
That might be a clue. Somebody said that one of the BUICK models is made in CHINA.
@@bikdav This Buick is assembled in China and South Korea, but the Citroën is assembled in Spain.
@@bikdav For the American market, both this car and its platform mate the Chevrolet Trax are union-made in South Korea.
@@bikdav The Buick Envision is imported from China. The Envista and Encore GX are both from South Korea. The Enclave is built in the US.
@@henryd1981 OK. That answers a lot of questions.
Simply, the most beautiful vehicle under $25k
It really is tbh, it’s just too bad that it has to be an SUV
Ad the best value for a car in this price range.
Agree - I think the styling is a home run and these seem like a great value only if you keep the price in check and avoid the $30k Avenir trim which is a waste of money to me - At $23-26k tops it's a good deal.
Buick makes premium looking vehicles, but no substance underneath that skin. It's a veneer...Avenir
Might be a fine vehicle to lease for 2-3 years. We had an 2015 Encore for 7 years and once it got to around 50,000 miles, it really started aging badly. My parents' 2015 Enclave only has 40,000 miles, but needed a new transmission not long ago (and fortunately covered under extended warranty).
I still much prefer the Encore. And the older Buick emblem. Not a fan of the over-simplication of car emblems. But it is affordable.
Great looking suv but needs a little more power
John you're the best!
In places where it snows the rear brake/ turn lights being mounted low in the bumper will get covered quickly creating a slight hazard
A GM built 1.2 litre 3 cylinder turbo? Might as well start saving money for that new engine you'll likely need just as the warranty runs out.
A have a feeling that BUICK will be gone before I die.
If you ever went to school for engineering we might take you seriously. Although I doubt it.
@tedunguent156 considering the unreliable garbage coming out of GM factories, I'd say their engineers need to go back to school 😉
@@bondedstars Sadly, from my standpoint, all the automakers are putting out junk in one line or another.

Btw, the Envista is made in South Korea by Daewoo motors lol yes I know everyone will say Daewoo is gone but trust me, this is still a DAEWOO.
Yep. GM bought Daewoo years ago and simply changed the name to GM Korea. The products they've put out with GM badges leave a lot to be desired in terms of reliability.
@@palebeachbumFinally! Someone that has knowledge of this! Good Lord, can you believe when I was 19 my parents bought me a 1999 Daewoo Leganza CDX off the showroom floor! The car did not last over 1.5 years and had only 23k on it before it was junked!! Timing belt broke, destroyed the engine and no parts due to the bankruptcy! I know this quality tradition continued long after GM purchased them as well! I'm sure they are much higher quality now but based on that I still would never buy anything related to them EVER AGAIN!
Even Hyundai/Kia all use timing chains and I've never heard of that part failing on one. GM Korea does have some history with their timing belts snapping, killing the engine. I know it was an issue on the Aveo.
@@palebeachbum I believe it! I am not making things up just to be dramatic but just two months ago my friends actually my best friends 2017 Chevy Cruze RS with the 1.4 Turbo had a cracked head or valve or something of that nature at 81k miles! Henderson Chevrolet here in Henderson, NV ended up putting a used engine as per her extended warranty (through Nissan) as she purchased the car at Nissan of Henderson here used back when it had 41k 2 years ago. He said he has at least 7 of the 1.4 turbo motors with the same issue and some fortunately are still under the manufacturer's warranty or have the GM warranty and therefore they're getting a brand new engine or a refurbished one through GM which would have been much nicer had my friend gotten that...but anyway, I'm done with GM I now own a Tesla Model 3 Performance 2020 as that's all I could afford but I love it so much I'm so happy with it!!
It's a looker and unlike any Buick before.
Beautiful vehicle but a little worried about the 3 cyclinder butting out 137HP. Any hopes of maybe bumping that up a bit.
Well this was a nice surprise.
This seems like the answer I’ve been looking for I drive a 2018 BMW 640i gran turismo which they stop making. I wish this had four-wheel-drive though maybe in a year or two if it does, I’m on it.
Styling is excellent!
Hello. So, wait a minute. Isn't that the Buick Envista, Buick's last internal combustion engine-powered SUV?!
That sounds similar to what Ford does with their 3cyl engines in the EcoSport - Those things are junk with a short lifespan, built for obsolescence.
1.3 probably too noisy
And they wanted to go with a smoother ride at the expense of reliability
Do a 1.5 turbo 3-4 banger in there to inprove acceleration to 7.5-7.8 0-60 & 15.8 1%4
Love my Envista ST. ❤
I love mine too 😀
I love mine, as well! It's a nice ride--perfect for around town, commuting to work, road trips etc.
Me too 😀
This is the most compelling thing garbage motors has made in decades. It’s been using a Toyota aisin transmission. (Shame it’s not using a Toyota motor too) but between that and the stunning looks it makes me almost want to buy one.
This is honestly the only GM car I'm slightly interested in.
No mention of milage??
Likely just cut for time due to TV related time constraints but we averaged 32.9 MPGs in our test loop. The information is available on our website: motorweek.org/road-tests/2024-buick-envista/
your title says Envista but you show cased the Avenir
I wish they would bring a nice sedan back like the LeSabre
Yes. Buick would like the avg. owner age returned to 75.
What's wrong with "hatchback?" That's what it is, and that makes it more desirable I think. Classic hatchback (kamm-back) profile.
Sits up higher than a car though.
Saturn should be resurrected. It would be so easy to just add a Saturn badge.
The same with Opel.
Would have preferred a 2.0L turbo. That would have been FIRE!
had more room for stuff with the seat up than I expected
Fuel mileage?
Only problem is i need that 4wd in Canada. Everything is perfect besides the drivetrain
No one needs 4wd
Too bad these are made in Korea.
But 9.0 seconds to 60 is fine for that kind of vehicle, and that price is not bad. But that brake light design is insane. Hope they can get an AWD version without asking much more money. Sick of the $45k entry level cars these days.
Since it's intended to be Buick's entry-level model, they've omitted AWD to keep cost down. Same reason for the smallest engine and old-school 6-speed auto.
I hate that they put the taillights on the bumper. Really tacky.
Everyone is afraid of change
I don't care about tackiness or change, I care about safety. That's not a safe place to put those.
@@mediocreman2I also agree with that. You gotta admit they look really tacky though. Like it looks so cheap.

Crazy styling to attract the younger crowd but power for the traditional buyer. I’ll be damned if this sells like hotcakes. Can’t wait to see the new Enclave.
power as in very little?
Yes
It has that knockoff BMW X6 look to it and I love it.
It might be a Buick, but its design does remind me of the NIO ES8.
A little Urus there and maybe the European designation of coupe.
RAV4 returns with same fuel economy with 2.5L 4 cylinder engine
Please upgrade your cameras so car looks good
I remember always thinking as a kid the shields a5 5:15 were boats 😂
Wish they just stuck a 2.0 4cyl in there that will last 200k+ without issues
Any infotainment issues like its cousin the recalled Blazer ?
Blazer is a completely different platform
Give it a 2,4 Liter. Doesn’t even have to have a turbo. Then you would have a seller it’s almost like you’re trying not to. Anything right
I want one in this blue 😩
Now if GM would take the turbo out the Camaro and put it in this to matches the great looks then this thing would be perfect 275 horses 295 pound feet of torque hell yeah 1:54
You can call a cat a dog but it doesn't make it a dog. I'd say a hatchback sedan. No 4 wheel drive, small cargo area are just a couple of things that says -not a cuv/suv.
There's no such thing as a hatchback sedan. Two entirely different body styles.
Looks almost like a Lamborghini Urus. But based off the Chevy Trax.
Wonder if GM will bring back the 3800
looks cool
Mazda CX30 may be smaller but would be more reliable long term
3 cylinder ?
Buick should have put a 1.6 liter 4 cylinders turbo making 160 hp and 190 lbs per feet torque
"The thing that seemed to be in the biggest hurry here was the transmission trying to get into high gear" 😂😂😂............No AWD, towing is not recommended, low roofline taking away cargo capacity; one highty tighty LessUV (less utility)
looks good-- its a chevy trax
I think that's a mistake. They should have at the very least an exclusive halo-type sedan.
What does Oldsmobile building for us?
Bring back Pontiac for this model and they would put a motor in it.
My grandmother has 150hp in her right hook.
Temu Urus
This is a nice enough looking vehicle; it just needs a 6-speed and a third pedal.
This ain't Grandma's Buick anymore.
I’d wish they’d bring back the riviera, regal, and a two seater. Im sooooooooo over suvs
My Buick has a 7.5 liter engine…. What have we done
AWD is absolutely overrated! Fwd is incredibly effective in colder climates! I've lived my 51 years in canada and I've never ever needed awd hell I drove my rwd mustang 6 winters with absolutely no problem! In fact it was fun! Awd is a marketing gimmick! There's one born every minute!
Completely agree
Two wheel drive will be detrimental to the US sales of this vehicle.
Nice, but it's a bit under powered , in my opinion .
See some Tesla shape in the Envista? Yes!
It is nice looking and that color is boss.
Won't bye it till GM comes with a 6 speed manual. that would make this SUV perfect. to make it even better 6 speed manual and AWD
It looks great - and a lot like so many other cars 🤷♂️ What makes this an SUV? I wish we could have some American luxury coupes and sedans. But this isn’t American anyway: it’s South Korean.
Mpg?
5:03: Brake lights mounted in the bumper?
Yep. A really dumb decision.
I'd lease this thing but I wouldn't own it with that engine out of warranty. I'm glad it has a 6 speed auto instead of a CVT though.
