Blade of Agony is a story-driven FPS. The project is inspired by WWII shooters from the 90's and early 2000's, like Wolfenstein 3D, Medal of Honor, and Call of Duty, but with faster-paced gameplay in the spirit of Doom! The game can be played standalone using the GZDoom engine as a base.
It's 1942, and the war approaches its peak. The U.S. has joined the Allied forces, and the Soviets are pushing back the front in the east. The tides of war are turning, and Hitler's victory seems more and more beyond his grasp. But the Nazis, refusing to capitulate, have grown obsessed with human experiments and occult artifacts, in which they see a potential escape from their final Doom. The Allied leaders reject this possibility as nonsense; nonetheless, some still fear what the Führer might be up to. The situation is nebulous, however, and little is certain.
You are Cpt. William "B.J." Blazkowicz, an Allied spy, a fearless risk-taker, and the greatest soldier to ever take up arms in World War II. Your role has changed, though; you've retired from active duty, and now you spearhead operations as a systems analyst. You thought it would be the right choice--leading and motivating instead of doing the dirty work--but lately you've grown restless. At least until a few days ago, when you received an encrypted message from your old friend and comrade Cpt. Douglas Blake, calling you back to duty.

Blade of agony uses a lot of cod1 and mohAA assets.
It seems no one has pointed this out yet: Blade of Agony is fully released now - three entire chapters ready to be played, bringing the story to its end and working as a full, standalone, free game.
It's a shame that every video on UA-cam that shows gameplay of it now has less that 5000 views.

@@shrimpboyhoIt can't be released because Bethesda or Id would take it down immediately. The mod also uses audio files and sprites from other games, wich makes it unmarketable

Though the changes they made are "minor," it still detracts from the original vision of the creators. Besides, the whole matter with WW2 was not pretty at all, but people seem unable to stomach historical horror. Pity.
You know a modder has talent when he can make the levels look mid-late 2000s on the Doom Engine.
Seriously. I'm blown away by what they've been able to squeeze out of the Doom engine, here.
IDK how much torm has updated it but it used to have terrible performance due to unnecessary detail, but it looked ok so *shrug*
If you think this is good, then check out total chaos. I shit you not it looks like something an experienced person with the source engine would make.

Hemang Chauhan the door didnt have any colored lock/handle so i dont think that key was for that door
Yeah. Gggmanlives has trouble with what you can and can't do with doors. He did the same thing in the Friday the 13th game.

The game is AWESOME, but I´m not the only one who´s been facing trouble to run it... the famigerated "OpenGL" and "Parsing" errors. Besides that, the executable does not work (IDK if it´s because of Win10). Did everything that people suggest on the forums, but no dice. Anyway, great job, hope I can play it soon...

Arel R Ion Maiden has really good visuals, level design and is balanced. Blade of Agony is good but unfair in some sections.

Thanks for highlighting this mod. I am a huge Wolfenstein junkie, and used to play RTCW incessantly when I was younger and just getting into FPS games. I used to watch my dad play Wolfenstein 3D all the time when I was younger, and this mod looks like it takes the best of both worlds and mashes them up beautifully. I look forward to trying it out!

Me too.
It's my favourite in the series, to be honest. I mean, I love me some RtCW too, but that game also suffers from Xatrix/Gray Matter's nasty tendency of making enemies devastating bullet-sponges, at least in the last third or so of the game. Wolf '09 (or, as I call it, Wolfenstein: Black Sun, a name that Ross Scott of Accursed Farms suggested it should've been called) doesn't have that problem, and is just a damn fun game. One of my favourite shooters, honestly.
The weird run bob and FOV on 360 made me feel queasy. Only FPS to ever do that. I reckon I should replay it on PC.
Aye, you should. Granted, you need to drop a few files into the installation directory, and edit a file to fix both the FOV and the run bob. Even by default, the problem isn't as extreme as it is on 360, I think. On PC, the default FOV when walking is 80, and 60 when sprinting. The latter number is low, but was even lower on 360. Still, applying the fix is strongly recommended.
As always, I recommend using PC Gaming Wiki with as many PC games as you can. It's such a tremendous help. But as for Wolfenstein: Black Sun in particular...

One of the best Doom2 Mods ive ever played. It doesnt even feel like a mod. Its a fucking full grown Wolfensteein Game. And an awesome at that.

Hey, they just released chapter 3 one hour ago. Funny, cause I was just rewatching all of your Wolfenstein videos, the timing couldn't be better.
This is one of the most impressive mods I've ever seen.
This has to be one of the best total conversions ive played for any game. SUPER impressive. I will also say, this is by far my favorite wolfenstein title to date.

BTW. In Wolfenstein Old Blood you also have paranormal things - zombies, occult rituals, legends, and that big monstrosity as a final boss.

I love playing old FPS but I rarely feel compelled to check out new one,s/mods, especially ones I have no nostalgia for (whether from playing back in the day, or hearing about and wanting to play but never getting around to). I must admit: yeah. The paranormal parts made the series so cool and I wish there was more of this in the mod. But nevertheless: This is the best mod out there for GZDoom and absolutly a must play. Sry, this point is not debatable.
Just finished the Ashes 2063 mods (1&2), it was quite unique. I’ll give a try to Blades of Agony !
For me best fps series to date, i love every part of it - from 3D to New Colossus. Can't wait for Wolfenstein Youngblood next year. And definitely i must check out this mod.
Holy shit. It looks like a mix of modern gameplay and graphics with old school FPS. The sprite work looks fucking amazing as well.
That rocket launcher sprite is the basic shotgun in a little known 90s FPS shooter and vehicular combat game Necrodome

I played this a few months ago. It is one of the best, if not the best, total conversions I have ever played. But it is its own game as he said. Really amazing work.
This game made me realize how nice it would be to have role playing games in this enhanced GZDoom engine

You say New Order etc divided fans a fair bit... I'm surprised to hear that! I thought New Order was pretty universally liked. _I_ loved it.
The story was bullshit just like the new colussus' story was also shit.
I loved new order and old blood but new colossus was a slap in the face and i really hope the sequel doesn't go that route

TNO's story was top quality, dunno what you're on about.
I like tno. I like the old blood even more (except that first part with all the climbing). I couldn't even get into the new collosus. I had to have spent 3 hours without a single ounce of fun before I realized I had wasted a long part of my day.

Oh my god, I will praise the makers all my life and promote this masterpiece. I had so much of a nostalgia rush, Medal of Honor and Wolfeinstein mostly. The colors, the maps and missions, everything is so old school in the best possible way. The creators really love these games, even the sounds come from the upper mentioned games. And the graphics are really unbelievable. At some points I tought I'm watching a 2005 game, wich is not small thing to say

I just keep watching your videos and finding all of these wonderful mods of old school shooters I played as a kid. In the words of DJ Khaled: AND ANOTHER ONE!
If i recall, BoA is a "reboot" of a series of mods called Wolfendoom, which were mostly Wolfenstein 3D based fan mapsets for Doom.
In fact, some of your footage even showed an NPC that's a reference to the author of those Wolfendoom wads.
Well, it's something between all of it: BoA was inspired by Medal of Honor, by WolfenDoom and by Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Even some classic mechanics are implemented, taken directly from Wolfenstein 3D.
I'm impressed, like really impressed.

Holy shit I remember playing this a couple of years back, and this game just looks so much better then it did then, its like night and day. I can hardly tell its the same mod at this point
We improved a lot since the first beta release of Chapter 1 and the changes will be even more drastical when we release Chapter 3.
When I was a kid, my dad would play doom and wolfenstein 3d religiously. I started getting into them when I was about 7 or 8, much to my mom's disappointment. It's a good breath of fresh air to see these games combined.
The creator of this mod is a GENIUS.
It's worth mentioning that John Romero himself praised this; he said that it's "one of the best mods for Doom"

BoA is one of the reasons why next Wolfenstein games should return to it's roots and go with direction that BoA took. I do appreciate that devs brought back villains from Wolfenstein 3D into BoA and made them more dangerous and threating, I always thought they were the part of franchise aside BJ and Mecha-Hitler. It wouldn't be Wolfenstein without them like if the Doom was without iconic demons.
Those enemies look so adorable, their proportions make them look like smurfs.

This mod looks INCREDIBLE! I'm definitely picking this up and donate to the development team because you know what they deserve it. Plus I want to give my money to those who make games, mods or not, that I want to play. Like old school FPS games such as this!
This is probably much better than Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. Alright, that didn't put the bar very high, but this TC looks amazing.

I would be extremely interested in the original medal of honor being upgraded , nothing changed but a face lift only, I love frontline too , I was an absolute beast at that , joints ,iron bru ,mince pies ,trifles, from the bakery.

Wow...chapter 1 in four hours?! I am playing it for 7 and a half - and i am in the middle
of the final mission (seems so) for this episode. A very accurate review on every point,
but i'd add that there is huge difference between the amount of work that went into the
levels, compared to the one that went into weapons (if any). And since you'll be
constantly lugging those funny sticks around - then it will always painstakingly remind
you of that. True, cheap-o-matic tactics are totally uncalled for (including the ones
shamefully carried over from Medal of Honor), as it turns certain areas into "find a
spot the dupes can't get to" puzzle, rather than an enjoyable gunfight. That is further
stressed by the "ice-skate" movement and a lack of commitment to a certain battle
mechanics, which results in quite a few scenarios where what you're supposed to do -
just doesn't work, and you are left looking for improvised cheap tactics instead.
Nonetheless, Blade of Agony is a great mod. Yes, i'd still call it a mod for a reason.
It is also a great game. Yes, it absolutely is. But the better question remains: is it a
replayable game? Wolf-2009 is. So is RTCW. Is Blade of Agony?! That remain to be seen.
Man there are a lot of sounds from CoD2... Nostalgia abound.
