3 Mile Long Train Railroad Switching At Winston Yard Florida, Amtrak Train Speeds By RR Crossing

- GIANT CSX Train With DPU Passes Abandoned Railroad Crossing, Then Does Railroad Switching As It Reverses Into Winston Yard. These Freight Trains & Amtrak Train Are In Lakeland, Florida. The train is doing railroad switching in the railroad yard that is just south of the CSX wye behind the drive in on the west side of Lakeland, Florida.
First we see a giant 3 mile long CSX freight train with a DPU cross the abandoned railroad crossing at Gay Road. This is a mixed freight on its way to Winston Yard. After the train passes me it reverses and uses the east leg of the wye to access Winston Yard. This yard has track that runs from Lakeland to Mulberry where we stayed at Best Western Motel. The train makes a few back and forth moves with the DPU in order to break the train down onto several tracks. Later that night I saw this same train going eastbound through Lakeland although it was shorter. We were walking around the huge lake in town that is across from the Amtrak station when it passed and I was unable to film it.
After the railroad switching we see an Amtrak train flying by eastbound past us. It had just left Tampa and was running between Miami and New York City. This was one of the fastest Amtrak trains that I have ever seen. It was booking son!!
Next we take a trip to the Circle B Bar Reserve between Lakeland and Mulberry, Florida. We went to that wildlife reserve on two different days. We still didn't complete hiking all the trails. That place is a must see. If you want to see alligators and wildlife you have to go there. Alligators are everywhere! Mrs Tooth counted 21 of them when we walked out on the wooden pier that goes into the lake. Don't fall in the water! Don't bring pets either or they will become alligator food. If you take children there I would recommend that you watch them closely. The lake is really cool because there are no boats on it and there are no buildings next to it. It looks like you are in the middle of nowhere but Lakeland is only a few miles away. We also saw a short local train go by with a caboose on the rear. It went westbound past us on the main and then reversed southbound down the west leg of the wye into Winston Yard.
Filmed Monday, February 27, 2023 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

Same to you from Michigan
Hi. I hope you're having an awesome day also.
Thank you I am too!
I've never seen any movies at the Silver Moon Drive-in, but I've been near there, and I've also been at the dead end on the north side of the Lakeland Subdivision. Have you seen the industrial sidings that cross US 92 between Plant City and Auburndale?
The very first train in this video can be a documentary in itself
Great work. That was a long train. Was the other a training session? That trail was definitely a wildlife haven.
Merci beaucoup pour cette très belle vidéo ! 🖐🖐🙏
Virtually perfect Trackside weather to shoot new JT videos. Motorists must have a lot of patience at some of these Crossings. The freight certainly was like a Pictionary of who was who in the covered Hopper world. True to Florida was the MQT boxcar like you shoot in Cincinnati being a snowbird and going south for a winter visit. Also a senior citizen that just got a facelift the TTPX bulkhead flat with rebar that got a complete overhaul and now can stay running pastors 50th birthday. All those. Critters fighting for airtime on a JT video. Looking forward to the next installment
They sure push some long trains in there! The video I’m putting up tomorrow from there has 199 cars!
Except for the train staying on the rails and being about 30°F warmer, it looks a lot like Ohio, Señor Jaws. Enjoy your vacation. Gracias por tu video. RT sends, Puebla, México...
great train video friend
Did you see Danny Harmon from Distant Signal while in Florida ?
That’s one reason the trains shouldn’t be that long. It’s not good to block fire trucks or policemen.
hell jaw its is randy and i like your video is cool thanks friends randy
Howdy pardner hope all is well 😀
Quote of the Day, "Look at that face!" )))
Nice!
What is this museum located along the track?
That is an old train station in Avon Park, Florida that is now a museum. They have a passenger car next to it also. Avon Park is south east of Lakeland. I filmed trains there about 6 years ago but on the day that I filmed this video I struck out.
That was an incredibly long train. Wow.
Must be the longest train in the world. Truly amazing having 3 mile long trains. First time I have seen it and in this video.
@@patriciamorrell4954 I counted 197cars, not including engines.
Thanks for watching!
@@patriciamorrell4954 Its flat in Florida so they could just about empty the yard with one train lol
@@proggravezilla4175 When I was a kid we rarely saw one over a hundred cars long if I remember correctly but it was a little more hilly where I lived versus this train in Florida
Good video jawtooth
Hope your vacation was enjoyable
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Mrs JawTooth
Glad to see you getting a working vacation there JT!
That's a whole lot of train to reverse into the yard😮
Great stuff, JT .. incredibly long train with very interesting mixed freight, and a quite different mix of animals vs. Norfie, Chessie, and the rest. Y'all have fun and thank you for bringing us great content.
Glad you enjoyed it
Hey JawTooth...do you ever care at all about 2 things...the age of boxcars & logos on them, and graffiti guys on traincars, or older hobo/or RR worker streak tags on boxcars?
Locomotives on 2 mile workin' hard. Amtrak bookin'. How safe are those long trains really? Some daytime raccoons are out after hours with rabies. Wild critters are interesting but miss Chessie, Brandy, Sophie and Norfie. Never heard from anyone relative to long train safety. Have yet to hear how Shoestring is doing.
That was definitely a long one. That Amtrak train was moving on with it. Great video!
Thanks!
Good morning Mr Jawtooth
Good morning !
Great job JawTooth
Awesome shirt 👕
Have a great day 👍
Thanks! You too!
I bet that the ' yard master ' went home crying with a 3 mile train pulling into his yard!!!!!😢😂😢😅😮😮
Danny Harmon of Distant Signals has quite the collection of videos about
The Winston Yard. And they routinely
Have 2 & 3 mile trains coming into and
Out of the Winston Yard on a daily basis. And it takes a while bc there are
Manual switches that have to be thrown and reset. So it can be a while
Getting into and out of the yard
another entertaining video. watching a 3 mile train go back and forth 4 times takes a hard core rail fan
raccoon was probably rabid. Good thing you didn't;'t have your dog with you on the trail. my understanding is gators move very quickly for 50'
Wikipedia has an interesting write-up on the history of CSX's Winston yard. If interested check it out.
Good videos
Glad you like them!
Awesome video, nice t see Mrs Jawtooth, hi to chessie and norfie
Hey, thanks!
Now that Amtrak train was booking! :)
Centerbeam cars x17, cryo-trans x9, DPU I c u.
Awesome video thanks for sharing it😊
Awesome
Horrible way to receive trains into the yard. What a nightmare.
Nice Video
🍀🎉🇮🇳🎉🍀
Thanks!
CSX must think they can really get away with extra-long trains in Florida because the terrain is very flat and no steep grades to deal with.
Howdy everyone. Hope y'all are having a great day!!
You too
Awesome video and keep up the good work God bless from GA and stay safe
Thank you! Will do!
JT and Mrs JT this was an amazing long catch. I went grew apples, cleaned out somebodies garage, we and played the horn LOLand Piano.and this train was still going LOL.thanks for the catch and as always love the furry animals 🙂 thanks
Thanks Erik! Have a great week!
@@JawTooth you too Brian :-)
You should team up with Danny Harmon @ Distant Signal. He films a lot down where you're at in Florida.
Believe he lives in Florida His videos are among the most informative of all the railfan channels. Millennium Force whose videos I don't care for all that much is from that area. Jaw Tooth has hooked up with him a number of times including in Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Doesn't seem to be a part this time.
That's some cool Florida action, enjoyed it much.
Thanks 👍
Seeing a few more new tanker cars they look bigger than some of the old ones
DPU Jawtooth see you!!!
Go ahead let's pack up Jawtooth because he's gonna sit right there for a while but his train is loaded. I watched your short video horses and carriage crossing the train track it's awesome oh my bad he's now picking up power speed.!!!
You’re right. That was Winston Yard the train was backing into. Great video! Thanks. 👍🏼
Cool, thanks!

I saw that. Lol
Hello. Today also, it's so cool !!! by Train lover🤓
Hello 😊
Hello how are you doing tonight good evening jaw tooth
Hey jaw tooth cool trains. It's a shame that people dump trash like that by the closed crossing. Very sad. Have a great railroad day.
I don't understand why people toss trash out. They can get rid of it in dumpsters or in the trash cans at the store. I usually pick up a few pieces of trash when I am waiting for trains. Have a great railroad day also!
still waiting on amtrak to show up
I counted 198 cars😎
wow thats one mighty long train
That was likely a rabid raccoon. Raccoons spotted during the daytime meandering around aimlessly in a hurry normally are
I kept waiting for the alligator to jump out and grab that raccoon. Maybe the alligator knew it was sick too. BTW awesome train video!
Thanks 👍
Where is Winston csx train yard at in Florida
Great Aloha shirt!
I know BNSF is Burlington Northern Santa Fe. What does CSX stand for?
C stands for chessie system (the previous name) S stands for seaboard system,a railroad chessie purchased. X has no real meaning, possibly short for express
@Mark Hoezee Thanks. I've known for a long time what the initials of the other big train companies too: NS= Norfolk Southern, UP= Union Pacific, SP= Southern Pacific, CN= Canadian National, and CP= Canadian Pacific. But never knew what CSX stood for.
The "X" in CSX was intended to represent a "multiplication" (as in math multiplication symbol) of the abilities of the combined Chessie and Seaboard systems.
@@markhoezee6292 The "X" in CSX, as in the math multiplication symbol, was intended to represent the multiplied abilities of the combined Chessie and Seaboard systems.
Actually it’s also CSXT-T for transportation. When a CSX leader is on a foreign road, dispatch and crews will call CSXT _____.
Like hearing those engines work.
The CSX freight was the M552 (Hialeah Miami-Waycross, GA). From Lakeland they’ll take the S line north to Baldwin. If you brought your scanner, CSX trains call their signals with their train symbols. 160.59. Symbols are available online.
Great train compilation!!
Thank you very much!
Bravooo! 😀👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
In the middle of the Tamiami Trail highway are two things: The Miccosoukee Hotel and Casino and the Shark Valley National Park. We rented bicycles and rode the 15 mile round trip in Shark Valley. Ever seen a 15 foot long aligator? They're busy sunning themselves during winter months along the tramway into and out of the Shark Valley Visitor's Center. 15 FEET LONG.
Я тоже однажды когда я шёл домой тоже проходил практику по управлению этой машины так мною были довольны и сказали что из меня получится отличный машинист этой машины.
Hay jaw tooth when is the next video of Cincinnati eastern
Soon. Now that I am back from Florida I want to film them. I have my scanner on hoping that they will run near my town
CSX approach signal big manifest, Amtrak highballing, alligators 🐊soaking up the sun, armadillo hanging out!🛤🚂
Is that alligator flip flops you're wearing JT? better watch out... cousin crocodile might say hello to you.
wow, Amtrak sure moves fast in Florida.
Excellent good video, mr & miss Jaw Tooth.
Sorry, i misted this video short time ago.
But one train, one long shot for your 📷.
Greet from Zandvoort the Netherlands 🇾🇪🇺🇸
Hey JW, Santa Train just departed Waycross on the Brunswick Sub.
You're making great train videos in Florida Jaw Tooth... great for my morning coffee. how's mama JT doing?
Whoa a long train! Nice to see a bit of Florida in your videos JT. I've visited Florida but for the Theme parks although we did travel around and saw the alligators & swamps, 😊❤
Monster trains, alligators, raccoons all in one! Raccoons are not afraid. I'm wary of them, carry rabbis! Awesome video. Watched it when you dropped it but not all. So i re-watched it! Thank you Brian stay well roll on
Way too long of a train blocking crossings for way too long a time. Good videography Mrs. Tooth! Be very wary of nocturnal animals that are out and about in the daytime. That is often an indication of illness encluding rabies.
True. I learned that when I worked for the health department. We use to have them tested
I wonder if the racoon woke up and smelled the alligator nearby.
Jaw tooth your friend 1960Gambit looks just like me in the face we are both tall glasses everything if you could tell he he has a twin in San Diego California man it just blow's me away how we look alike
One night just after dark I was taking a walk when I saw a cat run across the road ahead of me. I could see it had turned down the sidewalk toward me at a lope but it was running funny like it was injured. As it got closer I saw it was a really fat cat. Then it got close enough to make out the mask over its eyes.
That racoon came right on down the sidewalk right toward me. I never slowed and she never slowed. I moved over to the right and she moved over to the left and we passed each other about 10 inches apart on a narrow sidewalk. She just went on about it like she did it all the time. No big thing.
I've always heard the Tampa area is a hot spot for rail fans. You have shipping traffic going every direction, phosphate mines, and you name it.
I ate gator tail once that an old Cajun man had made up. It was delicious.
Thank Mrs.Tooth for standing there almost getting blown away by that Amtrak. I missed your radar gun. lol
I don't blame people who turn around and try to find another crossing, that train was so long you could go home cook dinner eat it and still have a few cups of coffee and half a pack of cigarettes waiting for the damn thing to get out of the way.😳🙄 And just when you thought you had seen the last of it 👍 it came back again 🤯🤯🤯😭😭😭
My Half sister( that i found out about after 55 years) has a mobile home in Lakeland.. Snow Bird from Indiana this time of year..
They say never wear alligator shoes in Florida... that sounds about right.
I think I saw Mrs jawtooth, you're on vacation, I'll bet Chessy and kitty are missing you guys!
Nice video I like a lot.😅 I'd love to be there with you
Maybe one day!
16:00 onwards.. The flange sequel is a wonderful sound to a railfan's ears! Always heard at low speed on a curve with the wheel flanges pushing against the rails.
Awesome 😎 Jawtooth!
Thanks again!
Thank you too!
The photography of the train is not good. The location of the less spaced train should be open. train engine good beautiful look
Front locomotive 🚂 says thank goodness for DPUs 😮 I think that's the longest train I've ever seen 😅
Stay safe. Don't get close to them. Train today that's f****** be like stoby
The train backing into Winston Yard probably stopped so that the conductor could line a switch somewhere in the yard. I learned that from another video shot in almost that exact same spot.
You are always talking about emptying the yard they just filled it
That train should be 3 or 4 separate trains. How does CSX get away with running trains that long?
Raccoon was looking for food for their babies most likely he/she is cute
If you like street running trains go to downtown Tampa catch the Phosphate train going to the Port of Tampa
when are you getting a drone to get some arial footage? cant wait for that footage? when you do get 1440p please.
Now we just saw the end of the video. Cool creatures you saw. Have never seen a live armadillo. It was really neat!
Wish I was in Florida right now, riding the Brightline !
Me too. We are now getting below normal temps
80 in San Antonio, Texas too.
38 in Mount Orab Ohio right now
Man watching that slow train go by like watching paint dry
I would like to see what’s going on at the other end of the train one day just for the heck of it.
Good Morning all
Good Morning from Michigan
@Jaw Tooth I bet cause ya shooting trains that the missis likes 🚂 s now too (to some extent I take it 🤔) 😅
wow, drive in movies went out fifty years ago in michigan.
This one has 2 screens, one at each end of the property
@@JawTooth wow two movies for the price of one. popcorn in the front seat and popcorn in the back seat.
Great work on your video (along with Mrs. Jaw Tooth).
