    Hey Andrew. I just want to give you a shout out because I just had a big job interview today, which is sort of a lateral move in my company, but with better compensation and environment and a good opportunity for growth. I'm super excited about it and have binge-watched your videos over the last couple of weeks. A few things stood out. #1 I was more prepared than the interviewers - I had notes, a copy of the job description with highlighted sections to talk about my skills and what I can provide in terms of fit and value, I had the top five questions (loved the game changer about success), And I had four anecdotes to turn to when faced with hypothetical "what would you do" or "what have you done" situations. #2 I asked more questions than the interviewers did, and essentially interviewed the panel (and took notes!). and #3 I followed up with a personal thank you email to each of them in the exact format you recommended, and I consulted those notes to populate that information.
    It's a job that I really want, and actually really need for not only my well being and life balance, but my family's. I have one question. Did I over do it? This isn't a job that's paying $100k plus, it's probably around $60k, which is more than I earn now, and in that area of the company I work for, it's essentially an entry level job there. So could I have possibly over done it?
    Edit: I felt the need to add something about the thank yous. The three interviewers are people that are in the same company, so I have the company directory just like they do in our email system. Is it also good form that I remembered their names well enough to spell them in the company directory in order to email them in upwards of ten hours later? Thanks!

    Thanks Andy for the very direct and concise advice from real life experience. Looks like the street skills are just as important on the internet and email. So great tricks and experience here, especially what you said about 'closers' needing to especially show closing experience in their follow ups - yet be secure and not email too long. Looks like the company pole smoking will never change but don't let it bother you (to the young ppl out there) - see the company polesmoking as an opportunity to make it easier and not harder to seperate you from the crowd. Definitely interesting what andy said about directly mailing physical thank you cards. That's some corporate street shit right there.

    Another question has been triggered by another recent interview experience.
    a) How shall I write a "thank you" letter if my experience was bad?

    Question: how long should a thank you email letter be if we email the hiring manager on LinkedIn? Since I do not have the emails and recruiter keeps them confidential, the only way I can thank people is on LinkedIn which I have done for the other folks that interviewed me. But I need to thank the senior manager who is final decision maker.

    @andylacivita #bootcamper here! thank you for this reminder!
    I do use this format when I send my thank you emails after each interview and when I was a hiring manager myself, I would always be impressed with the candidate who does this after each interview.
    Some of my friends have mocked me for doing this because they do not expect hiring managers/interviewers/recruiters to respond to the thank you emails - for me, it is more of doing the right thing by way of professional courtesy because (hopefully) the interviewer has prepared (because I would) and the interviewer has used his/her time to interview me for the role/ if the receiver replies, to me it is a bonus and might be a sign the interview went well or could be just good manners from the interviewer.

    Hello Andrew! I had an interview yesterday and then sent a thank you email (from watching other video's of yours) to 2 individuals , separately. Today is Tues. and received an email expressing thanks for the 'thank you email' and requesting referenced of which I sent. This afternoon I received a call from the HR girl that interviewed me and said that she would be out of the office until the 19th of Feb. and that they still had a couple of people to still interview. Yesterday while in the interview I was told that they wanted the candidate to start on the 20th. Should I now send a 'thank you' card'? and if so, what more can I say that I didn't say in the 'thank you email'? Thanks so much for all you do!

    Hi Andrew! Thank YOU so much for all your videos. I have a question about the thank you cards.

    • @andylacivita
      @andylacivita  7 років тому

      Majid, that's a fantastic question. I would send each person an individual email (assuming you can get their addresses). I would also send each of them a card (but that's me). Candidly, I think it's also good (enough) to send each of them an email and then send your contact (the HR person, recruiter, or whoever is handling the process) a card and address to all. Either way is okay.

    I didn't send a thank you on the last interview I went on. My last question to the interviewer was 'Is a second interview a part of the process'?. She responded "No we did that during the initial phase of the interview process". I assumed I was an extra person to interview because I applied after the closing date because someone that worked there told me about the job opening. Should I have sent one anyway?

    What if he kind a bit sick, fell asleep when he got home after interview due to stress in job interview preparation and cold weather. Can he be better to send a thank you message through email than nothing at all? Please reply and thank you Andrew!!!

    If the person has a really irritable attitude even after I've been my most cheerful and tactical, and then does the bait-and-switch and replies that they're just "blitzing through several applications before we make a decision on whether we're hiring or not", all I do is I say that I look forward to actually coming into their office and meeting them. And I don't bother with an emailed thank you. If they're going to treat me like a roll of toilet paper - then that means THEY are the toilet paper roll, not me. This happens in the Household Moving Company industry a lot, because there's just too many moving companies out there competing for each other, and they think all sales reps are the same, or expendable after the busiest moving season. I don't want to launch into a full psychological session with them on fixing their crappy attitude while interviewing me!

    Few days ago I just had an interview. (3 panels interviewer) everything went smoothly, they seemed very interested in me, many questions they asked me, and at the end of the interview ended with a (joke and laugh), and HR also asked me about my salary, and when could I start working if I got accepted.
    and they also say that if Im shortlisted, I will have received feedback from them for at least two weeks or maybe less than two weeks by email or phone call. Bcouse as far as I know they have just opened for this vacancy, and I was the first candidate to be called in for an interview.
