    I’m 52 and I’ve never been offered a job that I sent a follow up email to. I’m sure it works for some people, but I feel like it’s bad luck for me. I also feel like the interviewers are never really basing their decision on how you interviewed. They just bring you in to make sure you don’t look homeless, and that you can present yourself well. Most people can do that with ease. The questions are just a time wasting formality. At the end of the day, they don’t want anybody too skilled or too ambitious because those people are competition for the hiring manager, and sadly companies have huge egos!

    To be honest with you, if you haven’t heard back within a reasonable time, please walk away. Start applying elsewhere. There are other companies that will call you back if they really want to hire you.

      There’s really no right time frame for an employee to get back to you with a job offer. In my experience, if you don’t hear within a few days to a week, start applying elsewhere. There’s always a company that is willing to hire you without having to wait and jump through hoops.

    • @moeduk2621
      @moeduk2621 2 роки тому +17

      it does not always mean that. Sometimes the hiring process take up to a month, then you will be surprised with a job offer or a final interview. But that does not mean to stop applying else where, we need to apply everywhere until we land a job, regardless of any other job application.

    • @genew5758
      @genew5758 2 роки тому +14

      Good companies will always follow up with you shortly after the interview if they're serious about extending an offer to you. Do you really want to work for a company that takes a month to get in contact with you ? I sure wouldn't.

      @@genew5758 i agree with you, but if you do not have any choice and you were offered a good offer, i am sure you will take it.
      What I mean, you applied for multiple job interviews, and you should get in touch with them ad long as they did not reject you. Banks and big investment firms takes month sometimes which is really frustrated, they need to find the best if the best candidate with lowest wage. Really no comment and nothing we can do. I have been applying for many jobs and still waiting for many of them, even i still work in a company that I do not like.

    The employer may also be wasting your time for their own selfish purposes, such as being able to demonstrate a diverse applicant pool. I've had internal recruiters reach out to me on Monday and on Wednesday state that an offer had just been extended to someone else. I've also gone through a full-day panel interview process, ghosted for 6 weeks and then learned that the duties were given to those of an internal candidate who had interviewed me.

      If a company chose to take a month to fill a position, the person hired would have at least a month of work to catch up on or more. It would be a very hard job with a huge work load. I generally extend job offers after the first interview. I may tell the applicant I have other interviews to conduct before a decision is made, but ultimately I want to fill this position ASAP. I know every job is different. I interviewed at one place three times and had three interviews. I never got the job. What a waste of time, money and resources. Employers, please don’t do this to people.

    There are 2 slight misconceptions here: 1) Persistence gets jobs - this may be true for a tiny minority of candidates, but not for the majority, as although the recruiter may choose to hire a person who was persistent, most candidates (no matter how persistent) will not get the position, so it isn't persistence that gets them the role. 2) Being persistent means you'll automatically stay with a company long-term - this also isn't necessarily true as job seekers are often looking for what they need right now, and in a year or 2 years' time they might be looking for something new. It's not their persistence that means they'll stay long-term but their commitment to the role when they actually get there, as well as the support companies will give them in their role.
    If it was persistence that got people jobs, I'd have loads of them right now.

They must have lost their minds if they expect me to dedicate my time and energy to show my interest in working for them if they are going to pay $7.25/hr.

    Hey big fan of the videos! Lots of great recommendations! I have to say i completely disagree with your point about not reconsidering the candidate which followed back up (six times). To disregard someone so passionate about your company would be a major mistake. Likely that candidate is interviewing with other companies and is not only focussing all his time on yours. However, he clearly favors your company over the others. While everyone says they're specifically interested in a company, while interviewing, this candidate was probably being genuine about it. Not easy to find. A genuine interest in the work a company does is going to allow for the best quality of work possible. You don't have to extend extra effort to motivate that employee.

    If you haven't heard back from them by the time they said, it's because they offered it to someone else. The day after they were supposed to get back to you, send a polite follow-up email letting them know you're interested, because there is still the chance whoever they offered it to will refuse and that will increase your chances of them liking you as a second option. But do not sit around waiting to hear back from them. Keep looking for something else, and worry about them if/when they get back to you.

    Very bad advice! Finding a job is dating. The approach offered in this video would be disastrous in dating, and it is equally disastrous in a job search. She recommends over-pursuit… calling, emailing or texting every 3-5 days, etc. Wrong, wrong, and wrong! This is what stalkers do, and it’s intimidating to the recipient!
    Over-pursuit violates every principle of attraction, which depends on the appearance of scarcity. When the appearance of scarcity is coupled with the reality of scarcity, that is optimal for the job seeker.
    Get a certificate others do not have or which is in scarce supply…. then you won’t have to over-pursue.
    Based on this video, I wouldn’t take any of this millennial woman’s advice. Find a more competent coach.

    If a Hiring Manager or HR Supervisor does not get back to you in a timely manner, then they shouldn't be in their jobs. You don't keep candidates you have interviewed hanging under the guise that the Hiring Manager or HR Supervisor is busy and your follow-up email may have gotten lost because they're so busy and have full schedules.. They are in HR, evaluating suitable candidates and deciding on people, yet they lack the common courtesy and professionalism to reach out with either a positive or negative decision? Come on. If you have to chase down one of these people after you've sent a follow-up e-mail, just know it's on them and their cowardice. There is no excuse for not getting back to a candidate. Hi Madeline, I need you help,
    I was interviewed for a spring engineering internship in November 30th 2018. The interview went well, I followed up with emails to know their decision, they told me that before making a decision the team wanted review all the candidates. I followed up many times, for some reason the team that interview with me took to much time to make a decision. Finally on February 19th 2019 the recruiter told me that he was sorry I didn´t work out to the Spring Internship (I assume that it was too late to enroll to the internship because of the lack of decision from the team), but he told me he was evaluating head count across his hiring team and ask me if I was open for a Summer 2019 and Fall 2019 Internship, I told him that I was open. Since then he just went silent. I have followed up 5 times by now using your tips and he hasn´t answer. I don’t know what else to do, keep following up?, call him?, send the “off the market” email?.
    What would you recommend?

We responded to him a lot like this, with timeline adjustments and not ready to commit, and he stayed persistent. Also especially since this is for the summer...if you're in the US that means summer is still a while away so they probably do not have urgency for this.
