Guess you figured it out by now but depends on your distributor head. Basic is you see an opening in the top so water enters there and out thru the riser port. Some actually exit thru the top because the filter head is up top. Most all use the water in thru top and flows from the bottom up the riser. What I hate about cheap heads is you need a filter on the in port, a fine mesh like you see on garden hose washers and the inlet of a pressure washer to catch debris. Otherwise the resin can come out the port, especially if sloshed around, laid down, tips, etc... Made a .5 cu ft3 tank today from an old RO bladder tank. Someone threw their RO undersink set up and it had a mineral tank with a bladder. . Pulled out the bladder made a riser and used my old distributor.
