This guy is actually really articulate and descriptive. Thanks y'all!
Hi Jim, thanks!
I freaking love it. I'm all about this old random lens thing right now.
Glad to hear it! We're pretty much always into old random lenses here at Fotodiox :)
This is amazing, I have an old bolex with some C mount lenses I'm going to pick up one of these for my Sony! Thanks!
Oh nice! Yeah, Bohus is a big Bolex fan here in the office. Sean prefers the Bell and Howell Filmo 70 but they both use C-mount lenses so there's nothing to fight about really :) Enjoy!
Ordered, looking forward! Except a pretty detailed product review, this actually marks the 1 year since I purchased my first fotodiox adapter that basically opened a huge world for me photogrpahy/videography wise adapting these old lenses.
IT's amazing how much a $12 adapter can have such a profound impact on the craft.
We love your stuff! We'll def share it on our social pages.
Don't forget there are a couple of ways to address vignetting, one is Sony's Clear Image Zoom mode, it's a digital zoom better than crop, & works for video work. By the same token, an e-mount teleconverter will also expand a c-mount image circle, but lose 1 stop of light. Given a sufficiently sharp c-mount lens with a larger-than-average image circle, the results shod be more than adequate, while giving access to very bright/ fast lenses, such as f0.95 cctv lenses, or very fast projector lenses.
Great tips! Thanks
70's Nostalgia Lenses!
I recommend COMPUTAR 25mm F1.3. 1" . Good quality lens. It's small, gives you clear images, has a very fast aperture and also works perfectly fine on BMPCC.
We've heard good things about that lens. Thanks for the recommendation!
Great review my man. Hay your audio sounds fantastic what brand did you use and what brands wold you recommend?
For this video Sean used his Audio-Technica ATR3350 Lavalier Mic and Zoom H1 Audi Recorder, but we generally use a single system setup.
Suuuuuper brand new to this, how do the step up rings work and which should I get for my C-Mount lenses?
It depends on what the front filter threads of your C-mount lenses are and how big the filters are that you want to put on them. For instance, if you're C-mount lens had 27mm filter thread and your filter had a 55mm tread, you'd need a 28mm-55mm step up ring. Here's a link to our step up rings: fotodioxpro.com/products/step-up-ring
Nice video, will the c mount adapter work on a Sony A6400? I’m wanting to use it, for an Elgeet 12mm F1.2 Cine Navitar C-Mount Lens - 1950s Vintage Cinema lens.
Yes, our C-mount to Sony E-mount adapter will work on that camera, and it looks like that lens will probably fit on it too.
Shooting in APS-C mode, you can crop in even further, in-camera, with Clear Image Zoom.
Yes! I didn't know that when I made this video, made others later that got into that :)
Excellent video, I own a bunch of Fotodiox adapters for various mounts, and am wanting to try some C mount lenses. Have you tried the Sony TV lenses? I see them for sale all the time but find almost nothing online about adapting them.
We have one here actually, and it vignettes pretty badly even on a small Micro 4/3 sensor, so you'll have to do some pretty major cropping in post if you use one. It's a shame because it's a beautiful lens, it was just never made for anything larger than a tiny TV camera sensor.
Fotodiox Inc yes they are beautiful that’s why I am drawn to them ! But probably not worth getting for use on APS-C anyway.
I’ve just bought a Keystone Executive 16mm movie camera, and it came with an Elgeet 1” f2.5 C-mount Lens. I used the Fotodiox C-mount Adapter and the lens produces a heavily vignetted image on Sony a6400 APS-C sensor. I happen to like the rounded image with blurry edges, but this particular lens doesn’t have any focusing capability, and the lens mounts too close to the camera to focus anywhere. By “freelensing” I can hold the lens further away and achieve sharp focus at the center, but this is not ideal.
Is there a way to adjust the distance, perhaps a helicoid type adapter that would allow focusing at various distances?
@@batex3 Yes, you could use our Sony E-mount macro extension tubes, but those don't adjust and you'd have to mount and un-mount different lengths depending on what you need. Do you have an estimate of how much space you need? fotodioxpro.com/products/macro-tube-snye?_pos=2&_sid=465e80836&_ss=r
I just ordered the C mount adapter for my Canon 90D. However I thought I had a C mount lens from a very old video camera from the very early 80s. The kind where you carried the recorder on your shoulder and the camera was separate and attached by a cable. I tore the camera apart s few years ago and kept the lens. Though it might be a Cmou t lens. It wasn't anything like todays camcorders with built in lenses. I also own 2 other Fotodiox adapters. The Canon FD to EF and the Minolts MD to EF and they both work great.
Nice. Not sure what that lens may be. Unfortunately we don't offer adapters for lenses that are designed to be built into a camera since they often use mounts custom to the specific camera they're built into.
@@FotodioxInc I could take a photo of the lens from diffrent angles and I know I have photos of the camera I took before I tore it apart I could email these sometime in the future once I find the photos and maybe it could be figured out. Once I get on my desktop I could start looking. I took the photos with my T3i back around 2012 or 13. That's around the time i took the video camera apart. It is a nice looking lens.
@@SchardtCinematic Yeah, we'd like to help you ID the lens. Please send pictures to our tech support team here: fotodiox.freshdesk.com/support/tickets/new
@@FotodioxInc Thank you I'll start looking for the pics of the video camera and I'll take pics of the lens
Thanks bro i m going to try the same on bmpcc 6k then with my 110 pentax . First review to give me the courage to do so. I should get a decent crop with 2.4 k and 4 k so i ll try
You won't be able to get infinity focus with C-mount lenses on the Pocket 6K unfortunately. This is because the 6K uses a Canon EF mount, which is has a longer focal flange distance than C-mount does, so if you use our C to EF adapter on the 6K, you'll only be able to macro focus with C-mount lenses. This will also be the case for Pentax 110 lenses unfortunately.
@@FotodioxInc thanks!! (too bad) Otherwise with my sony fs5 ,with center scan crop mode, would that work? (end of my possibilities here...)
@@NAGAFILMDOC Yeah, that would work. You'd just need our C-mount to Sony E adapter: fotodioxpro.com/products/c-sne
I own a S load of c mount lenses one is Auginu lens 12 to 120. I would like to use them on my cannon m mount camera. Any suggestions
Yes, I'd recommend using our C-mount to Canon EOS M adapter. Here's the link: fotodioxpro.com/products/c-efm
what is the filter thread for your c mount lens?
This video is great. I use c-mount lens, frequently, with my Nikon 1 series cameras (1" sensor, like the Black Magic, = no vignette). Thanks for the great examples of using the barrel-sensor vignetting for artistic effect or avoiding it, even on a Sony E-Mount camera.
I need to use a Sony FE lens on a camera body with female C-mount entry (the opposite of the setup in this video) is there an adaptor for that ?? Would appreciate the help!
Unfortunately we don't make a Sony E lens to C-mount camera body adapter at this time.
I have NEX-3. Does this C-mount adapter fit on my camera?
Yes, this adapter will work on your NEX-3.
Anyone has any experience with Wollensak 50mm f1.5 Cine Raptar? I cant figure which mount it is (~20mm inner mount diameter)
Hi Boser, send us a picture of the lens here and we'll get you that info: fotodiox.freshdesk.com/support/tickets/new
Do you carry any C mount adapters for Canon EOS cameras that isn’t limited to Macro?
Unfortunately not at this time.
My Navitar 50mm F0.95 c-mount tv lens won't fit onto the c-mount to e-mount adapter. Can someone please provide some suggestion on how I can work around it? Thanks.
How is it not fitting? Is the barrel of the lens too big to fit into the concave part of the adapter, or is the thread not threading properly?
nice video
Thanks!
Does there exist a product that can expand the image so it fills the sensor? A magnifier or expander?
For C-mount? Not that we're aware of.
What about CS lenses? there's quite a few weirdos for CCTV and computer vision with interesting specs.
Hi asbaDoce, we don't currently offer an adapter for CS mount lenses but it's an intriguing idea.
@@FotodioxInc i'd definitely buy a cs-mount to e-mount adapter if you made one; like OP says, there are a lot of cool weird cs-mount cctv lenses
bought a c mount adaptor for my sony a 5000 and it seems to be to small
When you say it's too small do you mean it's too small for the camera or too small for the lens?
I read that the c mount adapter it won't fit A7s mark2 cameras. Is this true?
It should fit on the A7S II as well as it fits on the A7R II. You'll have to shoot in APS-C crop mode, which won't let you shoot in 4K on the A7S II, although there is a trick to make it work: ua-cam.com/video/djS2dt3THhk/v-deo.html
Thanks for the link. Saw that one. been seeing this adapter at many websites but most of them say otherwise so it's good to hear it from you. Thanks
Guys, maybe you can help me :)
I try to mount my "Meopta Largor 1,8 / 12,5mm c-Mount" on my A7ii, but I have to get in ASP-C Mode AND 1,5x Zoom Mode, to get the vignetting to something useable (for 4:3 aspect ratio). The problem is, ASPC + Zoom just brings up heavy noise. A teleconverter would be a solution to get a 4:3 vignetting in Full Frame Mode, but I guess they are expensive.
I wonder how you guys from "Fotodiox" did it. Because I use a similar C to E-Mount adapter, but your HD full frame vignetting (Minute 1:25) looks like mine in ASP-C Mode. Why is that? My HD-Full Frame Vignetting looks like a peephole haha :D
Glad if someone could help :)
Hi Marf, unfortunately different C-mount lenses have different coverage, and yours may just have a smaller image circle than the one we were using.
@@FotodioxInc Ah, good to know. Thanks a lot! :)
does the adapter work with the sony alpha 7 iii?
Yes, this adapter will work on all Sony E-mount cameras.
Fotodiox Inc thanks
haha lens looks so funny on the camera ha
26mm is 100mm equivalent in 35mm terms?
No, a 26mm C-mount lens is still a 26mm on a full frame camera, even if it vignettes. If you crop to APS-C than it becomes a 39mm equivalent, and if you crop to Micro 4/3 it becomes a 52mm.
I have Sony A 500 with the stock lens have u mess around with this camera ? Seems a little sensitive & and the picture look into the view & I want to get some vintage lenses for it I know some Russian spy lenses or German lenses metal lenses I was told for this camera the wide-angle lenses are bad but it has a lot of settings for wide-angle in a5000 it's not the worst not the best when the camera first came out it was kind of expensive the reason for this people want it on mirror & non touch screen but people kept going back to the camcorders and now a lot of people use GoPros and cell phones now& there's this movie while back where this kid bought a vintage movie video camcorder fix it. & kind of mortified camcorder on a budget made his own movie with it so you can take different parts an adapter to cameras take lenses from vintage movie video cameras camcorder telescopes sometimes you might find one that's broken but still workable, a5000 it seems more mediocre camera I haven't Fuck with it besides taking pictures I know the new camera some of them have better technology, & so what all options that works best with my Sony a5000 for Len's adapters? Any good deals ? I sometimes check the Goodwill app for Len's eBay or hunts
Hi Mike, you can adapt a lot of different types of old and new lenses to Sony E-mount cameras like your Sony a5000. Some of the lenses we recommend are Nikon F, Canon FD and Pentax K. M42 lenses are also pretty sweet. Here are the adapters you'd need for these lenses:
Nikon F to Sony E: fotodioxpro.com/products/nikg-snye
Canon FD to Sony E: fotodioxpro.com/products/fd-snye
Pentax K to Sony E: fotodioxpro.com/products/pk-snye
M42 to Sony E: fotodioxpro.com/products/m42-snye-p-v2
Thanks for the information I'll look into it and what's the adapter for vintage & antique lenses? Movie lenses
does this work with the sony a6000?
Yes, this adapter works on all Sony E-mount cameras, and that includes the a6000.
Fotodiox Inc okay thank you!

Why not C - mount to A - Mount ?
The focal flange distance of Sony A-mount cameras is 44.50 mm, while the focal flange distance of C-mount is 17.526mm, so if we did make an adapter to mount C-mount lenses on an A-mount camera, the adapted c-mount lenses would only be able to do macro focusing and wouldn't work for anything else. This is why we can only make C-mount adapters for mirrorless cameras with much shorter focal flange distances.
That swirly bokeh tho
Why?.??????
Because there are some beautiful and cheap C-mount lenses out there, and if you crop in on a high megapixel sensor you can create some pretty cool looking images with them.
grow a brain you tool
Why not
