Finally a video on the subject using the A7 IV and not R/R II/A7 II/III. This has been buried so deep by the algorithm that I had to search for several days to find it. Thank you for this content! P.S. Fun fact: The APS-C Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 Art lens works much better on my Sony A7 IV with MC-11 adapter than natively on my EOS 7D II. :D
I love to use the adapters from one brand to be put on another or old lenses to the new mount. But I got an error using the EF to R adapter stating Error 70. I was using the EF-S 10-18mm IS STM lens on the Canon EOS R10 and thought it overheated. No, after researching on the internet with this problem the adapter is at fault. So I experiment on many things, for an example overclocking a computer for better performance, and I was recording in Aperture Priority in the Stills mode not the Movie mode. But after 30 minutes it shut off the recording and gave me that error message. Learning something new everyday and am enjoying it. Stay Safe and Keep Smiling! Cheers!
Dude, I Googled “adapt Canon lenses to Sony” and your video shows up in ***Google*** results! Most of my lenses are now native Sony lenses now, but back in the day, I used the MC-11 with almost any EF lens and it worked fine with the exception of eye AF. Plus, the video was never great, but the still pictures were awesome. In fact, I used to do a lot of event photography using the MC-11 on my Sony a7riii with the 24-105 L, and 70-200 L lenses and the pictures came out great. In fact the Tamron 28-75 EF lens produced some wonderful images attached to the MC-11 adapter. I called Sigma last year and the person I spoke to said they were no longer updating MC-11 adapters. Also of interest, I found that the canon ef 50mm 1.8 had a sharper image and less AF problems than the native Sony FE 50mm f/1.8. And I loved using the Canon 40mm 2.8 on the MC-11 adapter (super sharp images). One of the most beautiful combinations was when I used the Canon 135 f/2 lens on the Sony a7riii. Such beautiful portrait images! I still do use a Canon Macro lens on my Sony, but other than that, I use native lenses now with the exception of some older vintage lenses. Another great portrait lens that a lot of folks overlook is the Canon 100 f/2 lens. I've really gotten some wonderful portraits on that lens in the past.
You can use EF-S lenses with the emount but you just need to mod the MC-11 but removing a few screws. It exposes the inside of the MC-11 but it works flawlessly on a FF camera in crop mode. I love my canon 35mm macro on my a7iii. It's a sharp underrated lens.
I switched to Sony about seven months ago. Yes all my Canon’s lenses work perfectly even my 600mm IS 1 F4. Although I will confess the first Sony lens I purchased was the 200-600mm for motorsports. Razor sharp and 1/3 the weight of the Canon 600mm.
I've definitely started to like Sony lenses more the more I use them. They don't have the "beefy" feel of many Canons, so it took a while to learn that they're still plenty durable. And the image quality is top notch!
I got the mc-11 when i switched because my sigma 35 has seen better days and the focus ring is pretty much stuck. Didn't want to sell for peanuts because the af still works fine. Was very happy that my 200 L prime from 1989 works so well on Sony. One of my favorite lenses ever. It's better than it was on my 5diii lol. Super fast af and accurate.
out of the 30 lens reviews i have watched in the last two hours, you are the only person i sub'd to - mainly for your amazing studio set up on top of your content 😅
Old vid, but some info. There's there's an adapter, that works with everything. It's the 7Artisan EF-SE AF adapter. around $95 I have a few Canon EF/EFS lenses. But I mainly use the 55-250mm IS STM lens. It works perfectly on my Sony A600. That includes, CAF, with pic and vid. All face recognition modes work. Also the lens's IS works perfect in pic mode, but it doesn't work with video. That wouldn't be a problem with a camera with IBS. It also has a button, to switch from Contrast Detect AF, to Phase Detect AF, depending on camera. Although the A600 has both CD and PD, the adapter will only work with CD. There are adapters for other camera makers
Hi there. I have lots of Canon STM lenses that I still use with my Canon C100 mk2 but I would like to use them (mainly my Canon 10-18mm stm) with my Sony FX30...this 7Artisan adapter you speak of will do the job? I only do video. THanks
The one for me is the 7artisan adapter is the best one I have tried on my Sony 7 IV. It also focuses some Canon EF/EF-S Sigma and Tamron Lenses in Movie mode. On top of that, it's cheaper. You don't need to modify your EF-S Lenses. Though with some EF-S Lenses you need to set your camera to crop mode.
Hey Tom! Just wanted to add that you can use FD to E (most manufacturers call them FD to NEX) adapters instead of stacking adapters so you get a more stable connection between camera and lens 😊 avid "vintage lens on mirrorless camera" user here and the 2 pros of adapting are image character (many modern lenses and sensors are made to be optically perfect so these "flawed" lenses bring some life into the images) and fun to use manual focusing (these lenses are made to manual focus so they feel good and have long focus throwes which help a lot in filmmaking imo) Hope this helps and I thoroughly enjoyed this video! 😊
ooh! also you don't have to deal with an extra bit of the adapter's glass between the lens and the sensor which can cause all sorts of issues. I promise you the image rendered from it is genuinely beautiful if you have a simple "spacer adapter"
@@tombuck fair enough! I am however gonna be holding on to the hope that you'd make a video on adapting vintage glass in the future 😂 fyi some FD glass have similar optics to classic K35 cinema glass which is why FD glass has become pretty popular with filmmakers these days. anyways, looking forward to the next video!
EF lens are kings!! .. I have both Sony E and fujifilm . My old Canon and Sigma art Glass adapt so well using fringer pro 2 adapter.. my Sigma art lens adapt well with my E mount bodies. Photography as mentioned works well on my sony. I have the sigma 28mm, 40mm art , 105mm and 135mm art. Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L II .. they all work with adapters. I’ve even experimented with the Z mount and GFX mount. EF mounts lens are Kings 🎉🎉
I've been a Canon shooter all my life (until I got into UA-cam, that is) and have been using the Commlite EF to EF-M adapter for my M50, I recently got a used a6000 (my Sonys have all been ZV-1s) and have been wondering about using an EF to E adapter. A little disappointed to hear that the Sigma does not AF with Canon lenses though. The Commlite does allow AF with the EF to EF-M adapter. I'll have to look into that. But this video certainly does answer a lot of questions! I've got a ton of EF and FD lenses to play with.
It's really fun to mix and match all these. I've noticed Sigma EF Art lenses are occasionally coming down in price more than they used to, so that could be a great option. Of course, native E mount lenses are fantastic. All the ones I have have dead silent autofocus, which is just so cool.
@@tombuck I use the a6000 mainly as a secondary camera, especially since it doesn't have audio input,. I'll probably get more into E lenses once I start getting deeper into Sony cameras. BTW, the lack of the Couples Table means I haven't gotten my Thursday afternoon break!
I wish Sigma had made a speedbooster version of MC-11, allowing you to adapt their FF glass on Sony apsc bodies (or certain FF bodies under s35 mode) with no crop.
@@gr3if Well, with a full frame lens, you cast an image circle big enough to cover a full frame sensor. But the APSC sensor is smaller, so most of the light falls outside of the sensor area and is lost. This gives a crop, since with a smaller sensor you just only use a small part of the light (essentially equal to using only a small part of the sensor, which is why some full frame cameras have a APSC crop option to generate smaller cropped images). A speedbooster essentially focusses the light to a smaller image circle to prevent most of the light being lost giving nearly an F stop more light and a wider field of view.
Great video. Perfect for me as a lover of Sigma art lenses currently shooting in Canon and wanting to make the leap to Sony. You have put my mind at ease and given me a path forward. Thank you. Also, great studio set up.
I have been using mc-11 for the last 2 years and it almost works flawlessly with all my canon L lenses. I just wish to have a thinner version of this adapter. You are right that it's the best adapter, not only because it works great but also for the price compared to other adapters like Metabones. Great video. 👍
Ahh, yes! I didn't even mention the price haha! Metabones makes great stuff, but you definitely pay for it. The MC11 definitely helped keep things under budget when switching from Canon to Sony.
I’m sure someone has said this in the comments. I’ve done a lot of research and it’s seems like the 7artisans lens adapter for Canon EF/EFS to E-Mount seems to be really solid for photo and video auto focus.
I do the same thing with all my systems. I came to digital after years of analog, 35, 120, and 127, so I have a lot of older lenses. My favourite combo for my a7iii is the Helios 44-2 and the non-STM nifty fifty from Canon (beautiful macro machine!), Waiting until robbing a bank isn't a crime to get up to date with my Sony system. I need a couple of nice 'modern' primes for it though. That'll be in the plan when bank robbing becomes an Olympic sport :P.
Nice video, I bought my A7r so that I can use my glass on full frame digital to save money on film, I use FD, F, M42, MD, EF and OM adapters, and they work just fine.
@@tombuck Canon, when they went to the EF mount, they actually increased the distance from the lens to the film plane. The FD had a much shorter distance hence the need to use optics in the adapter. Now with mirrorless, that distance has been shortened once again, which accounts partly for the increase in image quality, so FD glass can be used in most mirrorless systems via an adapter that does not require an optical element, that degrades the quality of the original optic.
Great and informative video ! but minor correction on 2:56 , its actually Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art for sony. the one with the 'built in mc-11' . DG DN lineup they redesigned everything for mirrorless format.
You can adapt most non digital lenses to mirror less, it doesn’t matter the system. It can be Panasonic, Olympus, Sony, whatever so long as it’s mirroless. Vintage glass is great. Most of the vintage 50mm glass out there has a lot of great benefits over that Sony you say is as good. Build quality and bokeh are much nicer in many cases.
7artisans adapter is the best budget adapter. I try it on my A7C with 16-35mm F4 L, 50mm F1.8 STM, 70-300mm F4-5.6 L. All work perfectly in picture and video mode. Can read the exif file after shoot.
That's awesome, an adaptor on an adaptor to adapt a lens to a camera. Wow that was a lot to write. Also, this is the first video where my name made it on the board, yaaaay. (don't know why I hadn't signed up until now). 😃
I was very happy to add your name 😁 (just a heads up that there are a few videos schedules from before you signed up so don't be worried if you DON'T see your name haha)
Nice to see an old popular Tamroon zoom getting a workout on modern kit. I've owned a couple of them and scored a few SP Tamrons of that era and honestly, some of them are as good as modern glass. Not joking. One or two of them aren't but there are very few dogs amongst the Tamron line-up.
I've only recently discovered how good Tamron is (both old and new). I finally ordered my first one- the new 20-40 f2.8. Should be here at the end of the month or so and I'm SUPER excited for it.
Great video. I've adapted (LA EA5) old Minolta and Sony (1980s to 1990s) A Mount lenses. Autofocus is louder and a bit slower with fewer autofocus points. But the quality is still pretty good.
You must’ve made this video just for me! I appreciate you throwing some light on the “unholy union.” Like you, I switched from Canon to Sony, and I have not touched my Canon lenses because I don’t feel like selling them and keep my Canon gear as a back up system. But, I got a shoot lined up for the end of this month I need to use my 24-105 Canon macro zoom lens. The same one you have. I thought that meant I would have to go back to using my Canon camera, which is honestly a step backwards in image quality and speed of focus after loving the SonyA74 for almost a year now. And now I see this spectacular video offering me a simple way to use the Canon lenses I have loved for years. Thanks Tom Buck, camera god 📷 🏆😊
Totally going to play around with the ZV-E10 and see what mischief I can come up with! Don't have many Canon lenses, but there are a few sitting in storage that might get a second shot at life!
I have the Sony ZV-e10 with this Sigma MC-11 adapter. I been using bunch of my Canon lenses on the Sony ZV-E10. So far all good for photos but not for video. You can do manual focus for video which is pretty good. As long as you are shooting manual focus for video, you will be happy with the results.
Thanks in advance for the explanation. I wish to use my old Nikon 70-200mm with my Sony alpha. So, your video helps me to try it ❤ your lighting feels so motivating 🎉
I did the "adapter dance" for the last 6-7 years with my Canon glass to Sony bodies. I finally sold all the adapters and Canon glass this week to switch over to Sony G-Master glass. It was time....
I never own any Sigma while using Canon EOS. But glad to see you demonstrate video autofocus with Sigma on MC-11. My Canon lenses work good with MC-11 on Sony A7R3 for photo, not video. I will try to buy a used Sigma. Thank you.
That's great! From what i have seen so far adapting the canon lenses on my A7iii body with the mc-11, is that, as you reel the aperture dial you costantly see the maximun aperture of the lens, all the time, the f4 for the 24-105. Another thing is, when you magnification to manual focus lets say, and half press the sutter button, to stabilize the frame, the magnification goes away. None of these two things happens with any sigma lens on mc-11. Sigma lenses auto focus better than the canon lenses too. In exif data also i see the focal length of the lens, but not which lens is for canons. But not for the sigmas.
I enjoyed the content. Thanks. I can assure you that the mount name for that camera is FD. I don’t believe there’s any such mount as CF. Edit: just got to the point in the video where you got it! 😅
Thanks alot for your video and all the details. You actually helped me make a decision. Same as you, in a Canon echo system for photos, but was GH5 for video. Want all the same echo system, but without breaking the bank. Will be able to use my canon lens for a while with that adapter. Thanks again 😉
Greta video. I bought a 5D2 really cheap with a 50mm STM..and scored a 24-105 and 200mm f2.8 L cheap as well. I had to repair the 24-105mm too. I'd love to upgrade the body but not spend a ton of money on something new. Just looking for more low light performance and better AF choices. Shooting kids little league is great with the 200mm, but in low light, it seems to hunt a lot and having to bump the iso brings in a lot of noise.
I recently stumbled upon a couple of videos talking about the new 7artisans adaptor. It seems to have auto focus in video as well. Yet to test it myself but I've placed an order.
I bought a dedicated adapter for Canon Fd lenses to Sony, far, far better then using the MC11 and the FD-EOS adapter due to the extra lens element in the adapter, this allows me to use my old Canon FD 50mm 1.4 without loss of quality...
I have a Canon DSLR (550D) and 3 Lenses mainly for photography, but now I’m gonna buy Sony for videos and worry if I can still use my Canon lenses… That’s why I’m thinking if I still want buy Sony (watching ZV E-10) or stay with Canon (M50 Mark II which I’ve been using already a few times…) If Sony, I’m going to buy the one with kit lense + Sigma 18-50 f 2.8… worth it? Cause it’s better in the dark conditions… Also thinking of the manual soviet lense Gelios 44m-4 2/58
I noticed that when I used to work at a local tv news station- it's definitely not uncommon to see different brands merged together. I guess it's really in the consumer market that they try to keep things more isolated?
Love your easy style. Creatures who “adapt” tend to live longer.😁 Kidding asside, I’ve adapted lots of old (Pentax) lenses to Sony cams - gotta set focal length in cam to use IBIS, but fun to see results. Cheers!
Hi, loved your video. I started with photography this year because I found an old analog camera from my father. Now I am looking into buying a digital camera and it's not easy to decide between all the camera brands. Sony seems like a good choice mainly because of the E-Mount and the a6000 line but the lenses seemed a bit to expensive. This adapter seems like a good short term solution to this.
Thanks so much! The good news is that every camera is great (as long as it's from one of the "main" companies), so it's tough to go wrong. Some do have certain strengths, but there aren't any bad ones. If you have the budget for it, it might be worth renting a camera or two to see how you really like it in your hands/workflow. I've used lensrentals quite a few times, but there are other places to rent online too. 👍
@@tombuck thank you for the advice. Gonna look into where I can rent some cameras to test. (actually just got an ad on Instagram for a renting website :D but was around 15€ a day for a week)
i bought the adapter and a toking 11-16 f2.8 lens Canon EF, it works fine however at 11mm I do get some vinetting, probably from the adapter which spaces the lens out further. I also bought a sigma 105mm f2.8 Macro, and this one was a major failure, the AF does not work and it does not let me set the Apurture, I am stuck in f2.8 On the flip side I read that it is an older Sigma model and apparently it even has issues working on newer Canons, I can confirm this as it would not work on my friend's newer Canon DLSR
Thanks, Tom. I’ve none to say about this… but, I did realize, when you were talking about your 6D, I realized I had the 7D, and may have mis-commented in your video last week. Oh, dear
Oh no worries- I was always really envious of the 7D. I remember wanting one so badly when it was released but could never afford it. I ended up getting the T2i, which had similar video performance, but it always felt like I compromised.
@@tombuckoh yeah! I had the T1i and didn’t upgrade until the T3i. I was dying to have a pro SLR, but couldn’t broach the several thousands needed. I found the 7D for $900, which was good for the dance photos we were doing a lot. I still wanted the 5D (mkiii at the time) but $$$. The 6D came out at a bad time for me, but it brought Canon full-frame into the realm of mortals’ wallets -mortals who weren’t making $2500 a weekend with their cameras.
Excellent and informatory video.. I have few old film days lenses like eos 24/2.8, 28/105/, 24/85, 35/135, 50/1.8 plastic mount. I picked Viltrox but performance average hit and miss. I will .appreciate if you guide sigma mc 11 will work work on sony a 7ii above lenses in af mode
Thank you for pointing that out! It looks like the Amazon listing had changed since I posted the video, so I went ahead and removed it and just stuck with the B&H one 👍
I shoot with a canon R6 mostly video, thinking about switching to the fx 3, the only thing that stops me is that i looove using the ef to r6 mount with drop in vnd... apparently Meike just made an adapter that has drop in vnd for ef lenses to sony e mount... if video focus is great, i am definitely switching to sony (only for dynamic range) ;))))
Hey Tom! what's that cool looking stand that your ATEM Mini Extreme is sitting on? It'd sure be neat if you had an affiliate link for it in the video description! 😉
@@tombuck nice - thats certainly a great camera... something to work towards as a little too pricey for me at the mo. Thanks for replying and thanks again for the content. Really useful.
Both systems are great, but for video especially I've really been loving Sony. Granted I spent like two years debating before actually making the switch 😁
I actually did try it after making this and ended up returning it. The autofocus DOES work with Canon lenses in video, but it stops focusing when the camera is recording and/or sending an HDMI output, which makes it not super usable for me.
What about focal length? If there is no glass or something in adapter so if u put it between your camera and lens you gonna have longer focal length actually.
I could be wrong, but I don't think so. I think EF lenses specifically are easy to adapt whereas native E mount lenses are trickier (I believe it has something to do with the distance between the lens and the sensor or something like that).
In theory it is impossible. Cause even the bigger mount of Nikon Z was on the edge to make it possible and good for Nikon users there is a good adaptor now. But Canon RF mount is not big enough to take in the whole Sony e-mount as it is needed for the infinity focus due to the shorter flange of the Canon mount.
Hey great content, help me a lot. I have a doubt, I have a Meike 85mm f1.8 ef mount and now I am a Sony user. How can I know if that adapter will help me to use that lens at my A6100?
Hi there...I just got the Sony FX30 and I have a Sony 18-105mm f 4 which is ok but not for low light...I also own a Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 for Canon which I like for my 90D...I also have several Canon STM lenses...so...I'm thinking I could use this MC-11 adapter but do I understand correctly that my Sigma 18-35mm f 1.8 might work fine with video autofocus but genuine Canon cropped lenses will not not have continuous video autofocus? I know this video is from 4 months ago...I'm tempted as I don't want to buy the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8...are there more than one version of this MC-11 adapter? thanks for your help!
You're totally correct! Your sigma lens will have full autofocus (the 18-35 is such an incredible lens too), but Canon lenses will need manual focus for video.
@@tombuck ok then...well...I'll look for a cheap MC-11 and will give it a try...I was hoping to also use my STM lenses but maybe not! I wish Sigma made a version for the Sony E mount...maybe one day! Thanks
@@tombuck hi again...I did a bit more research...and the fine print is what matters...the MC-11 will work fine with Sigma lenses designed for Canon EF but NOT EF-S which is a Canon own design...so the MC-11 will allow me to use the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 and 50-100mm f1.8 (!!!) because those use the EF mount. Most of my lenses are Canon EF-S with the exception of my Canon 50mm f1.8 STM which has a red dot and has a EF mount-I will lose Autofocus but it will work manually....so...I may still get the MC-11...but which other adapter will allow me to use my Canon EF-S lens on the Sony E mount even if I can only access manual focus for video? One that you recommend? Of course the best option is to just buy Sony lenses...I like those sigma lenses because they are f1.8 even if they are massive! For interviews mounted on tripod they will be fine...not for walking around! Thanks
canon is abandoning EF-M lenses and i'm looking if it's possible to buy new sony camera and put some adapter so I can keep using collection of my ef-m lenses, any tips or rumors if it's possible
From what I know, there isn't a way to adapt EF-M lenses to an EF mount (I could be wrong though, and there might be an adapter out there). If you could get an M lens on an EF adapter, then the EF adapter could go into this Sigma, but I don't know if that's just a pipe dream or not.
this is a great video, I currently have both systems, an a6000 for sony and a Canon 6D, I do have an adapter for the Sony. Lately I've been wondering if I should upgrade wheter to an a7 or Canon R, which personally I think I like better the experience with the Canon. the main reason being is that Sony has kind of always had a problem with overheating in their systems. which do you recomend to do? or stick with what I have and purchase maybe more lenses like used ones? also I have another question, can you use the sigma adapter on Canon EF mounts like the R series for sony E mount lenses ? like full frames ones? and the older canon does fit the R system as well?
WRONG about the canon EF-S lenses..... kinda... The MC-11 was licensed to only use EF to sony mount. Physically blocking the ability to use canon EF-S lenses, however, if the EF-S lens mount is make of plastic, you can remove it, grind it down to remove the physical plastic blocking and then use it on the MC-11. I did this exact thing with the Canon EF-s 10-22mm on my Sony A72 for a trip to Italy. Worked perfectly. Look for videos about modifying EF-s to work on full frame cameras.
I own a Canon 300mm 2.8 IS II (the latest version) and their 1.4 & 2.0 teleconverters. Will the 300mm + TC's autofocus in all modes (with, say, bird eye focus)?
The MC-11 is the reason I have 8 Sony alpha cameras after 15 years with Canon. By the way, My wife and I love your channel!
Thank you! And wow! 8 cameras is pretty incredible. Glad your Canon glass gets put to use!

Oh my gosh, thank you! That's such an awesome thing to hear! You totally made my day.
@@tombuck you are very welcome! Also, where did you get/make your stand for your rodecaster? Ours takes up so much desk space!
Old vid, but some info. There's there's an adapter, that works with everything. It's the 7Artisan EF-SE AF adapter. around $95
I have a few Canon EF/EFS lenses.
Do you know if EF-M lenses will work?
@@davidjimenez6394 No EF-M lenses will only work on EOS-M camera bodies
What about IBIS? Works?
😂 I just noticed my comment from 4 months ago. This was how I discovered your channel! Gracias amigo!! 🏆
Hey Tom! Just wanted to add that you can use FD to E (most manufacturers call them FD to NEX) adapters instead of stacking adapters so you get a more stable connection between camera and lens 😊 avid "vintage lens on mirrorless camera" user here and the 2 pros of adapting are image character (many modern lenses and sensors are made to be optically perfect so these "flawed" lenses bring some life into the images) and fun to use manual focusing (these lenses are made to manual focus so they feel good and have long focus throwes which help a lot in filmmaking imo)
Hope this helps and I thoroughly enjoyed this video! 😊
ooh! also you don't have to deal with an extra bit of the adapter's glass between the lens and the sensor which can cause all sorts of issues. I promise you the image rendered from it is genuinely beautiful if you have a simple "spacer adapter"
Very cool! I didn't even know this existed! I actually only remember I had that adapter while filming this video so I decided to try it out 😁
@@tombuck fair enough!
The EF lineup is absolutely awesome. And Sigma Art lenses are just 🤌
I've been a Canon shooter all my life (until I got into UA-cam, that is) and have been using the Commlite EF to EF-M adapter for my M50, I recently got a used a6000 (my Sonys have all been ZV-1s) and have been wondering about using an EF to E adapter.
With the MC-11 adapter I have AF on all my Canon lenses with my A7riii and my a6000.
I wish Sigma had made a speedbooster version of MC-11, allowing you to adapt their FF glass on Sony apsc bodies (or certain FF bodies under s35 mode) with no crop.
Crop is an apsc thing?
Sigma makes such amazing lenses, and being able to use the EF mounts with full autofocus on Sony definitely brings some peace of mind.
Metabone is really overpriced as an adaptor.
Will the sigma Mac-11 work for Canon ef 16-35 F4L IS and ef 70-300 L lens?
GREAT VIDEO THANKS ! HELPING ME TO MAKE A DECISION.
I’m sure someone has said this in the comments. I’ve done a lot of research and it’s seems like the 7artisans lens adapter for Canon EF/EFS to E-Mount seems to be really solid for photo and video auto focus.
Canon 16-35mm F4 was my favourite..
Now on Nikon..Sigma Art fam.
Smart choice! I bet you'v been able to capture some really great shots with that setup 👍
You can get FD to native sony mount. Because the glass in the FD to EF adapter will slightly degrade the quality of the lens.
That's great to know!
I was very happy to add your name 😁
(just a heads up that there are a few videos schedules from before you signed up so don't be worried if you DON'T see your name haha)
You can also use the Viltrox EF to Sony E mount adaptor at a much cheaper price. Works just fine.
You're a Hero! Just saved me from spending 200 dollars!!
Awesome video as always, learned a thing about canon lenses today
Thanks! Hope you found something you can use!
This was useful. Thanks!
Happy to hear it!
A great helpful video bro... keep rocking with your style
Thanks so much, I really appreciate that!
Hi. There are really cheap native FD-Sony adapters (
Great video. I've adapted (LA EA5) old Minolta and Sony (1980s to 1990s) A Mount lenses. Autofocus is louder and a bit slower with fewer autofocus points. But the quality is still pretty good.
I love you, man. I switched to sony and was missing using the 18-35mm 1.8 and with this adapter I can use it on my A7 IV. Thank you! subscribed!!
Works very well with my Canon EFS 35MM Macro lens.
I predict that with Canon strong arming the RF ecosystem, these adapters will be growing in popularity.
I think so too 👍
Great info! Thanks for the explanations.
Happy it was helpful!
You must’ve made this video just for me! I appreciate you throwing some light on the “unholy union.”
Like you, I switched from Canon to Sony, and I have not touched my Canon lenses because I don’t feel like selling them and keep my Canon gear as a back up system.
Also, I like the branching out from Buck Blue Checks to 80's Fluro pink!
Totally worth giving it a try! The lenses are definitely what I miss most about Canon, so this is great. I love the build quality of a chunky L lens.
Thank you I really appreciate that and am happy it was helpful info!
I did the "adapter dance" for the last 6-7 years with my Canon glass to Sony bodies. I finally sold all the adapters and Canon glass this week to switch over to Sony G-Master glass. It was time....
The metabones adapter is the most reliable ef-e adapter for non sigma lenses
It's a lot more expensive for a lot of people.
Last metabone Mark IV / Mark V with the last update Ver.68 work with AF in video mode on my a7siii and a7iv (try both of them)
Oh really? That's awesome!
Speedbooster for sony camera to create a 16mm lens to 10mm lens approximately.
I find it easy to use Canon and Zeiss lenses on my Canon cameras.
I use EF lenses with my Nikon Z camera via an adapter (Fringer). The AF in photo and video works as good as native.
You should try the 7Artisans adapter, AF works for video on all the Canon lenses I've tried
I definitely need something like this for my Nikon f mount lenses to Sony E mount 😮
I think Nikon lenses are also fairly adaptable. I have one on the old RED camera I have 😁
Hi Tom, there are regular updates for even better AF and yes also in video too on some canon lenses even so try update your firmware
I’ll have to check it out! Thank you
you have a beautiful and great space!!!
Thank you so much!
So cool! I didn't realize that existed 🤯
I have a Canon DSLR (550D) and 3 Lenses mainly for photography, but now I’m gonna buy Sony for videos and worry if I can still use my Canon lenses…
That’s why I’m thinking if I still want buy Sony (watching ZV E-10) or stay with Canon (M50 Mark II which I’ve been using already a few times…)
If Sony, I’m going to buy the one with kit lense + Sigma 18-50 f 2.8… worth it? Cause it’s better in the dark conditions…
Also thinking of the manual soviet lense Gelios 44m-4 2/58
i know a different animal but my dad was the chief engineer at a very big studio in Chicago...the combo was Sony camera bodies etc and Canon glass
Cheers!
Thanks Paul! I really appreciate the kind words. 🙏
Which is the best adopter now in 2023 ? Does any adopter work with video auto focus with newer Sony cameras ?
i bought the adapter and a toking 11-16 f2.8 lens Canon EF, it works fine however at 11mm I do get some vinetting, probably from the adapter which spaces the lens out further.
I wish I could do that with the tamron 70-200g2
My Sigma MC-11 allows me to use my EF Canon lenses on my Sony a7ii. The only issue is a longer boot-up of 1/2 second.
AF will work with photos, but not in video unless it's a Sigma lens. 👍
This link to amazon is to another sigma adaptor which is not the right one for the EF mount. The BH link is correct.
Does this adapter add any crop factor? I'm just thinking on going from Canon to Sony and this video is like a silver lining! Thank you soooooo much!
No crop factor, thankfully 👍
Hey Tom! what's that cool looking stand that your ATEM Mini Extreme is sitting on? It'd sure be neat if you had an affiliate link for it in the video description! 😉
Ahh yes haha, it's even in the best color!
Looks like someone is in a position to start their own Affiliate Program! #PKAffiliates
Hi Tom, thanks for this video. just what i was after. Out of curiosity, whats the camera that you used to film this with?
The FX3 has been my main camera for the past 2-ish years and it's been great!
@@tombuck nice - thats certainly a great camera... something to work towards as a little too pricey for me at the mo. Thanks for replying and thanks again for the content. Really useful.
This really tempts me to move to Sony lol
Both systems are great, but for video especially I've really been loving Sony. Granted I spent like two years debating before actually making the switch 😁
your shirt reminds me of t mobile :)
That is my carrier 😬😁
Nice. Ended up selling my Canon lenses and bought all new Sony lenses. Ouch! :)
I love the Sony lenses, but being able to use my Canon's was the last little "nudge" needed before making the leap 😁
try the 7artisan adapter
I actually did try it after making this and ended up returning it. The autofocus DOES work with Canon lenses in video, but it stops focusing when the camera is recording and/or sending an HDMI output, which makes it not super usable for me.
IM FINALLY EARLY TO A TOMBUCK VIDEo (basically the best youtuber but that's a given)
haha,, I love this! Thank you! 🙏
Is thie a video adapted from a photography class?
So, may I ask if Sigma lens with EF mount will have video AF through this MC-11 adapter?
Yes! And it works great.
What about focal length? If there is no glass or something in adapter so if u put it between your camera and lens you gonna have longer focal length actually.
I have 3 different cheaper adapters for my A7ii. Each works with a different set of EF-S lenses.
Oh interesting! Smart idea too.
is the auto focus slower with the adapter??
Hi Tom, another nice video, thanks. Is there any adopter to use Sony emount lenses with Canon cameras.
I could be wrong, but I don't think so. I think EF lenses specifically are easy to adapt whereas native E mount lenses are trickier (I believe it has something to do with the distance between the lens and the sensor or something like that).
Thanks
In theory it is impossible. Cause even the bigger mount of Nikon Z was on the edge to make it possible and good for Nikon users there is a good adaptor now. But Canon RF mount is not big enough to take in the whole Sony e-mount as it is needed for the infinity focus due to the shorter flange of the Canon mount.
Thanks for your review! I'm wondering if you can also use the ibis using this tool? Thanks!
I’ve been able to use IBIS just fine (I think since it’s IN the camera itself, the lens doesn’t really matter).
does it work with tamron lenses?
Will it work with Rokinon 35mm ? I have a Sony FS7
What about the metabones series?
I've only used one before. It worked well, but was really expensive and then the autofocus didn't work as fast.
The Sigma MC-11 does not present EF lenses as E-mount lenses. It presents them as A-mount lenses.
that's interesting, but not true in my case. Maybe some MC-11 adapters work differently than other models.
What about vise versa?
great vdo tom , but i have a question , can i use a MC 11 adapter on a Canon EOS R camera to use a canon FD or EF lenses ?
