Yup I avoid coconut oil makes my hair dryyyy
I learned my hair HATES coconut oil
Mine also
And they put that mess I'm every natural hair product too. Smh.
My stylist says coconut oil is a cleansing oil, not a moisturizing oil
It literally just sits on my hair
I did a protein treatment by mistake a little over a year ago and I thought I’d have to cut my hair out, I couldn’t even touch it without it snapping. I’ve always had healthy natural hair and that had me in TEARS. I avoided anything with protein in it for months. My hair is back and healthy again!
how :(( it’s been 3 months since i did the treatment and it’s thinning because it keeps breaking and coming out. What products did you use?? I’m using jessicurl shampoo, kinky curly leave in, not your mothers green tea deep conditioning mask.
I love the way she did not go overboard with the trim 👍
But she said she needed more the client didn’t want it all cut, stylist don’t cut for the fun of it y’all just be having split ends that’s going up the shaft
@@jus9526 I wouldn't mind being her client but I don't think I'm in her area but I have seen a lot of hair stylist on hair cut hair and personally when I was growing up the hair stylist love to cut your hair it was so hard for me to retain length if a client ends no matter how bad it is if I don't want to cut it don't want to cut that's their choice
@@jus9526 Some stylists go way overboard with trims, but you’re mostly right. Girls be wanting to hold on to length, when their hair is full of SSK and split ends. Their hair would be long and healthier if they but the bullet, got a reset trim, and kept up with maintenance trims.
What are you talkin about everybody has split ends even if you cut them they come back that's why you should protective style to protect the ends and moisturizer with really good oil and conditioner your hair if you cut your hair it grows back faster if you continue to cut it that's what any type of hair that's on your body that's including the eyelashes facial hair etc but at the same time some people just prefer to not have their hair cut sometimes you want to go in there just to get your hair done you don't want no scissors put to your hair are a haircut and that should not be a problem you're the client which you say goes you're paying them they're not paying you
@@juliemayfield7598 definitely just tuck the ends, hair splits lol best thing is wearing it stretched and using mild heat to dry it
I’m a licensed cosmetologist and I learned this in cosmetology school. Never use too much protein. Protein treatments should only be used maybe 1x every 3-6 months.
Question - I've had a perm for years. Although it's shoulder length, it sheds a lot and nothing I've tried helps with detangling. I end of pulling out a lot of hair trying to untangle it. Any suggestions would be helpful 😢
@@kangoocutee1198 For shampoo I recommend Keracare detangling shampoo. Maybe Olive oil leave in for daily detangling?
I remember that one early youtuber had everyone using that apogee line and that stuff had all the girls hair ate out and broken off 😂😂
💯💯💯💯💯
@@kangoocutee1198 Is your hair still chemically relaxed?? If so and you’re having a lot of trouble detangling it then your hair may be “under” processed. Also, try using a hair masque to strengthen your hair strands. Sheamoisture Raw Shea Butter Deep Moisturizing Treatment Masque is a good one for starters.
I know the ladies in Wisconsin are happy. 🎉 My mom and grandmother live in Alaska. There's 1 Black lady near them that does hair. She does everything braids, flat-irons. She stays booked and busy. Good beauticians should consider going to states like Alaska, Massachusetts, and Vermont! 😂Ya'll are desperately needed everywhere. It seems like good beauticians go to popular states. 😢 😂
We need more cosmetologist like you who specialize in healthy hair!! We have a lot of stylist, and that's great, but there is nothing like a healthy head of real hair. Beautiful work ❤!!
Her hair is so pretty, even with the setback! These are my goals💯
thank you for the accuracy at the end! not everyone’s silk presses turn out flawless!
I’m from Minnesota, it’s nice to have a stylist in a similar climate who understands the stresses on our hair
Yeah I feel like my hair isn’t meant to be straight so I just don’t even do it anymore. I have very thick full long natural hair and I just love the way it behaves when I do twist and braid outs. It works for me and it stays healthier with no heat ever!!
I have the same type of hair, and the key is to use high heat which unfortunately is more damaging. I’m not a fan of heat, so I’m with you on the twists. I prefer single strand twists because they give me a flatter root. When I straighten my hair for my bi-annual trims, I use medium heat and it gives me a blown out look which I’m fine with cuz like I said high heat is not my friend.
@@tiahnarodriguez3809 exactly. Plus having so much damn hair takes hours to properly straighten just for to instantly start reverting back. Idc it’s not worth it to me.
Same ! I’m sticking to my hooded dryer for twist outs etc
She is gorgeous! Beautiful results 😊
OM Goodness! What beautiful hair, both natural and straightened!
Her hair is beautiful!
The silk press is Poppin and her "kitchen/patch" makes it even better😊❤ I love that color. I'm thinking about doing copper or silver once I grow my hair out❤
Seeing the honey blonde in the back of her hair took me back to when I was in high school. This was my jam. I had the honey blonde on the sides too so when i tucked my hair behind the ear you could see it from the sides and from the front a bit. I have the same problem. My hair is brittle but I just use like coconut oil, pink oil, and mousse for my curls. I’m gonna try to switch it up because yeah something has to give. Great video! Very informative.
You have so much knowledge about protein levels. I know I probably over do it 🤦🏾♀️. Wish you were somewhere near NY. I would be in your chair every 4 weeks!
The issue is that most products for afro texturd hair has protein in it and I believe is the reason we are having so many set backs with our hair. I feel like it should be treated like iron, only purchase it if you need it and never be added to any product. My hair went from being very moisturized with define curls and waves to dry, brittle and hardly no curls. My hair doesnt like aloe or water anymore, if I use that my hair would frizz up and become dry and crunchy like I had used a protein treatment.
I've had 2 protein treatments within the past 4 months. My hair is falling out due to postpartum shedding but the treatments have been helping my hair stay strong. Before that I would only do protein treatments two or three times a year. I just make sure I deep condition at least once or twice a month.
Hi, last year I remember doing a free consultation with you over the phone and most of the products I was using at the time had too much protein. I took your advice and purchased the products you recommended. Also, I just brought your deep conditioner I can't wait to use it.
Thank you! 🫶🏾
Where are you located and how can I make an appointment
All that protein overload paid off. Her hair is gorgeous. 😆 🤣 😂
You did a great job too!!! 👏 👏 👏
Absolutely beautiful! Not a wig! the real deal!😊
Wow! You did a great job and her hair turned out beautiful! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾I will definitely ask a hairstylist at the shop near me if they do what you did as well! Thank you for the video!😁
Black Queens keep it goin baby I love this this hair stylist is amazing that hair is beautiful
Beautiful work and teaching
It turned out beautifully, great job❤
If that's what protein overload looks like I'll take it!😂
You're right though a lot of these products have way too much protein. I cannot mess with coconut oil. Good video, so many good points explaining why a lot of us deal with brittle hair. The end result is beautiful!
Thank you! And the deep conditioner helped soften her hair a lot!
Girl no don't say that because I saw a video of this woman who used a protein shampoo, conditioner and like a deep conditioner or leave in conditioner something like that and I kid you not her hair clumped up into a ball like just a mass of hair it was almost rock hard she did the most to try and detangle it but there was no way she literally had to cut her hair from waist length, not even stretched just straight up waist length, to a curly bob it was horrifying since that day I never did a protein treatment again it scared the hell outta me, sis in the video got LUCKY 😮💨
@@lindasamba4816 lmao you are talking about the youtuber named "curly hair crisis"
@@tsuyuasui7297 YESSSSS!!!!! IT WAS HER 😭
@@lindasamba4816 I saw that video two weeks ago for the first time and I keep watching it
I thought I was the only one who couldn’t use coconut oil. I have high porosity, but that oil still makes my hair dry.
That is some beautiful hair!
Gorgeous hair ❤
just found your channel and I love it new subbie she has beautiful hair ❤❤❤
Wisconsin ☹ Beautful hair excellent job!
Beautiful hair.
I have protein sensitive hair. It’s so hard to find protein free products!!
Same here!
Gorgeous hair
I had protein overload 5 years ago from using rice water. UGH 😫. I couldn't THINK about my hair without it breaking off
Same!
Yup
Yes! I had to cut 6 inches off my hair last year. I’ll never mess with rice water again
How often where u doing the rice water treatments?
@@sheeshneesh It was a spray so I was using it pretty often, every time I washed my hair for months
I have hip length, heat trained hair. I use a serum everyday which has the main ingredient coconut oil. My hair does well from coconut oil.
Coconut oil is not for everybody, because it makes my hair hard and brittle
Thanks for this video! It is interesting to know this. Hmmm, beautiful hair and if my hair was like that natural then I may have stayed but natural was too hard to manage 4 me and never found good products.
I have low porosity hair and do a rice water rinse like very 2 months & that works for me. I literally just clarify my hair with clarifying shampoo And pour some warmed up rice water on my hair and let it kinda dry then rinse it off and deep condition.
Well said, Pretty Look
Beautiful hair
Absolutely stunning 😍🤩
Well I want to do exactly what she been doing because her hair is thick and gorgeous
I know what you mean! I am much more knowledgeable and careful now. So I check the ingredient list of every single product I buy. I’ve finally found some protein-free products. Most times I make products myself because of all the protein in store-bought products. Luckily I enjoy making DIY products, as long as they are backed by science & they work. 😂 Anyway, her hair turned out absolutely gorgeous! I love it. 😍
Yes come tobTexas.
Beautiful hair 🤘👍
Beautiful ❤
i used a deep conditioner that was marketed as a “deep hydration mask” come to find out the first ingredient was protein smh 🤦♀️ my hair has been a mess ever since i cut off about 5 inches hopefully i can get it back on the right track 😕
Could you please reccomend some good protein treatment products (sulfate free) to use between ? Hair masks preferably 🥰
I love your hair dryer. When I blow dry my hair, because it's so thick, the comb keeps coming off. Any advice?
Hello, Please tell me the temperature setting of the tools? Awesome Work and Knowledge, 👑
Thank you!
My hair LOVVVVVEEEEEE coconut oil 😃 I can use tons of it and it just drink it up and make it soft
Gosh her hair is beautiful I wish I could go to you
Yes hair can become over-protienize...leave the protien for the pros....and the directions state "For professional use only" Raw protein must be followed up with a moisturizing treatment....#sameday.
Good tips Sis. Beautiful job!
What quality products should we use . I stopped using coconut oil a long time ago or nothing with it. It makes my hair dry and scalp itch .
Ooo 😍. I need to be a client
ONE PASS ONLY
Wow protein overload is beautiful! Where do you get some?
I LOVE her "peak a boob" blonde hair, it looks good on her❤
It's orange not blonde but it's cute.
Nice job!
Can I ask the temp of your flat iron?
@Shell Grow. Do you have a deep conditioner that doesn’t have Shea butter in it?? I’m sooo allergic to Shea butter.
so beautiful!!! How do I get my hair to look that pretty when it is straightened??? My hair gets really like staticky when I straighten it and then reverts back by the end of the day! :(
What is the brand name of the blow dryer you are using on her hair?
No I don’t think it weird that you wear gloves. There is a lot of skin conditions that we are unaware of. I just started simply wearing glove washing my hair because my nails snag and break
💯💯💯
I wear gloves as well...love the glide. As well for the reason you stated.
Bruh a fourths of her hair is my whole head 🥲
My hair has protein overload but from a henna treatment i did one time. I knew i was sensitive to protein so i did this as an alternative not realizing hen a acts like a protein or worse in my opinion. Big mistake on my low porosity protein sensitive hair. Do you or anybody know what i can do to reverse or at the very least combat this. I had already been stopped usin any products with protein. My hair is more dry, brittle and has been prone to breakage. I had planned on starting to get silk presses, but since this happen i am apprensive as i am concerned that would make my hair break even more in this state. Any suggestions at all or does anyone know what i can do. Thank you in advance.
Love the video.
Curly Chemistry, here on youtube, is a black cosmetic chemist. She's very informative and interesting.
So what products do u recommend? Do u have a video on that ?
What flat iron did you use (and size)? It looked like it smoothed out her hair nicely with just one pass. And how long (with proper maintenance) does a silk press done like this last?
Looks like a Chi
Shout out to the 414💚💛
How does coconut oil make hair brittle? I've never heard of an oil doing that. The protein overload I can see, but not the oil, but you are correct. I found this online: "But for low porosity hair, it's hard enough to get water into the strands, so if you have coconut oil taking up space, then hair may not get the moisture that it needs, therefore, it dries out."
Idk the science behind it, behind my hair also hates coconut oil. It might be simply because oil and water don’t mix and too much coconut oil blocks the hair from getting moisture in.
How is self press different to flat ironing I legit wanna know. Newbie here
how often should i do a protein treament ?
My hair love coconut oil but I use it in a mix not directly
Do you know what products she was using that had too much protein?
Hi how do you get in contact with you to do an over the phone consultation? I have this very same issue.
Do u stick to a specific temperature or base it on the clients hair characteristics?
Yes every client is different but I try to stay at 410 or below for everyone
Those split e days just gonna travel up
Such a great video thank you! Question: how do you remove the protein making your hair brittle?
You can balance it with moisture/protein balanced products and staying away from protein treatments for a while.
@@shelltalkshair thank you sm!! I washed my hair last night and took the advice from the video and it feels way more moisturized! I think my aphogee products helped the balanced moisturizer with a light oil 😮💨😭
U still in Milwaukee? I need my hair done, I haven’t been to a salon in over 10 years. Had a major set back last year when I cut my hair when it was wet. Well let’s just say I cut way too much .
Damn, if this is what breakage looks like I want some! Lol
Yeah that was nothing
I have the opposite problem. When I let my sis silk my hair out, she said I have moisture overload. It was like my hair was too soft or fragile.
Yeah I remember when I was deep conditioning every week, my curls were really loose and my hair looked damaged. I gave myself a protein treatment and cut back to once or twice a month and it helped tremendously.
Coconut oil does not come into my house in any cosmetics, skin care, body care, or hair care. It is too much for my hair and breaks my skin and scalp out.
It breaks my #Face/#Forehead out, too, Sister, But I #Keep it on hand 4 Mainly other things 🎉
I use it in my coffee. I used to use it on my hair and body but have since graduated from that. I didn’t have any issues with it, just not my thing anymore.
Does the heat from a silk press help with breaking down some of the excess protein?
Good question
Does the olaplex shampoo have protein? I thought it did…
I agree…i literally had to write on a calendar to track my protein treatments lol. Everyone using protein products, silk amino acids, blah blah and not thinking about how much protein the hair needs.
Yep. I was over doing it with protein and bond builders and my hair was SUPER brittle and dry. It would not straighten easily and reverted at the drop of a hat. Since I started using moisture based products only my hair is soft, silky, straightens easily and reverts less between washes.
Yes, one. But you don’t want to completely stay away from protein. Just maintain a moisture/protein balance.
Hiw do you know if you have protein overload? Ugh, my hair sheds a lot. I don't know what else to do to help with the shedding.
It's very brittle and breaks off in small pieces when you do nothing, comb or touch it. You have to go on a 2-3 week moisturizing routine avoiding all protein (check product labels) to get your hair back to normal. Did it twice 😅.
What flat iron u using?
My hair hates coconut oil. Idk why. Alot of people live by it my hair and skin doesn’t like it
I heard Wisconsin 😳 what part of Wisconsin????
nice😊😊😊
pretty
Her hair is so beautiful in its natural state, and she looks so sweet and pretty with it. After is straightened, yes it's sleek and swingy and beautiful, but it looks ordinary and common.
Her hair looked heat damaged. Not much elasticity in those
curls. But you did a great job.
Hi, where is your salon located?
Wisconsin
Why hasn’t anyone created deeper shampoo bowls yet? Hair that long should have a bowl at least twice as deep….
I was so excited to hear you're in Wisconsin! But disappointed that hair must be at least shoulder length. Mine is mid-back but I'm planning to cut it. Why the length restriction?
Wait why is there such a thing as a length restriction💀
@@tsuyuasui7297 guess I'll never know 😂😭 I've never heard of that before.
That's strange
Your located in Wisconsin…..where?
