clean shaven? when i wrestled we couldn't have stubble like he has in this match. could actually draw blood with it. and poooooor johnny - oops i mean JOHNY! - had to go to his pastor about his feelz :(
Watching it now he wasn’t. Johny Hendricks either would’ve won or it go to sudden victory or get riden out losing 4-3 if they had challenges and challenge bricks and okst throws the brick and won the challenge back then. They weren’t added till 2013 cause of the infamous Stieber Oliver match
@@AmericanTestConstitution he's already in control in the top position. It doesn't matter how much hendricks is moving as long as perry initiated the move and had his back exposed for a two count.
All due respect to Perry but that shows you what it took to keep Hendricks from becoming a 3 time champ which is insane. Hendricks was an animal wrestling. But Perry had his number
Talk about absolute raw emotion after a match. That’s what happens when you’ve lost to the same person for 10+ years and you finally beat him to win an NCAA Division One National Championship! Go Hawks!
Mark should have never wrestled his senior year at 74. He’s not a true 74 pounder and just got handled. He could have been a 3 timer if he stayed at 65. He probably did it for fhe challenge.
Really feel like Hendricks got cheated with all of the caution calls, when your strategy is to explode out, having the match stopped 5 times throws you off.
By today's rules Hendricks would have been DQ'd from the match for stalling for his performance in the second round. But of course, they would have modified their action to fit the rules.
They had to make amends for the year prior. Hendricks was pinned. Twice. And still won. Then he ran around the mat with his OK State flag like he actually accomplished something.
Perry cheated on that last mount up again. Should have been another caution and a point for Hendricks. His hand that was supposed to be on the elbow was basically on this deltoid.
i was at the hendricks/churella final the year before. Kessel was a great ref, despite that match. This guy, i believe, brought about the "ref as a third party to the match" mentality. He is awful. I hate when refs insert themselves into the action for no reason. I think this was the guy who started the "still neutral" mantra during a match. I notice that they seem to save their most annoying commentary for the finals.
Perry should have been hit with stalling in the second period. He looked up at the ref to complain because JH had his wrist. What a wuss. He learned to piss-n-moan from his uncle (see Suriano vs Fix)...the irony is quite hilarious. I’d love to see them square-off in the cage and watch JH knock MP out.
This is 14 yr old clip. The rules have changed a bit and tightened in some aspects. Also, the push out becomes a judgement call or would just have some guys trying to shove their opponent out for easy points never intending to get takedowns. It already can be seen on some of the lower tier wrestlers. That defeats the principle and spirit of disciplined wrestling.
15 years later, I still get emotional watching this match. A great night for Iowa wrestling.
A huge thank you for the NCAA uploading all these for us. Binge watching them again with my son
It's our pleasure! Thanks for watching!
One of my favorite all time. With the history coming into it. Coming back from behind. Announcers not giving him a chance.
Nice how many mma fighters have been uploaded recently. Fun to watch!
it's weird to see hendricks lean, no beer belly and clean shaven
clean shaven? when i wrestled we couldn't have stubble like he has in this match. could actually draw blood with it.

Never seen Johny with a beer belly. You must be a troll looking at your own belly.
@@tommycryptic He was fat as hell after USADA.
@@H.K.5 his belly was flapping around at 185lbs plus he couldnt even make weight, im convinced he was at the very least on EPO for 170
9:25 I just realized this was the first time a point was scored. Wow, that was 9 min of very intense balanced action
The late Jeff Blatnuck using a Jim Rohn line. The pain of discipline or the pain of regret. Classic!
that was one of the best quotes i've ever heard
That ref interjected himself into the match and just made a mess of it
And then Hendricks interjected himself with steroids and became ufc champion. What goes around comes around. Thanks ref
@@juntjoonunya9216 That doesnt even make sense. "What comes around goes around"? I dont think you understand that cliche at all.
@@juntjoonunya9216 You do realize Hendricks never was a champion.
@@grapeafoundation6345 really? I thought he had it at least once. Well he at least beat GSP but nobody seems to remember what ol Johnny accomplished
@@juntjoonunya9216 Well technically he didn't beat him. He actually lost in points.
This is why we’re Subscribers
Thank you for posting these
That ref at 10:38 the dude wasn’t even lined up and you can hear someone scream “he wasn’t even on his elbow”
Justin Carroll awful. Should have been another caution and point.
I just noticed that too and it obviously made a big difference in how quickly he was able to suck hendricks bacj
Saw the match live.
Incredible
Good for Perry. Passion right there
Not sure about those back points
The ref was in the way. I think he had a favorite.
bgredhd Smith I agree. Perry should’ve been hit with a stalling with more than just a warning for stalling. Honestly Johny wrestled the better match.
I think Perry scored those finalback points a little quickly without enough control.
Colt Bender under new rules the stalling calls are much quicker and more frequent
@@AmericanTestConstitution he's already in control in the top position. It doesn't matter how much hendricks is moving as long as perry initiated the move and had his back exposed for a two count.
Let’s all take a moment to appreciate the shoes of both these atheles. Got some classic adistars and 54s
You made me go back and look at them and then I thought about it for a second, I never called them wrestling sneakers...they were my wrestling shoes.
Who comes to a video clip of a great wrestling match but then chooses to comment about the shoes? Are you a girl or gay?
@@avidadolaresim just not as badass as you, obviously.
Ref was full of himself should never ref again
All due respect to Perry but that shows you what it took to keep Hendricks from becoming a 3 time champ which is insane. Hendricks was an animal wrestling. But Perry had his number
Ryan Churella had him pinned the year before. Very questionable officiating at best. All went in the favor of Hendricks

Is the referee wrestling someone? Chill out dude. Why did you stop the match 30 seconds in when they were on their feet?
Mark should have never wrestled his senior year at 74. He’s not a true 74 pounder and just got handled. He could have been a 3 timer if he stayed at 65.
He probably did it for fhe challenge.
Do Myles Martin vs Bo Nickal 2018 matchup
I remember this match.. I don't know about that near fall.😕
Johnny Hendricks is the living legend the goats all time
That Hendrix was no slouch but to beat him at the end😮😮😮. Perry just squeaked by and won
In case anyone was wondering where IMAR got his whacky roll from... here it is
I came here after seeing Delgado vs Garrett in 2014 finals and i was curious who was behind the courtains...Mark Pery Jr. -The Coach
Really feel like Hendricks got cheated with all of the caution calls, when your strategy is to explode out, having the match stopped 5 times throws you off.
the cautions were on perry
Not to mention the multiple stalling calls on perry bro was so boring
They had to make up for the national championship he was gifted the year before.
Those are tough dudes.
Really great to see this!
I’m surprised John Smith was in the corner.
I could not Coach against my Nephew and want someone to beat him. Family first!
Behind-the-scenes family rift w Perry (Sr) made the decision easy from what I understand. 🫤
Perry wrestled a smart match but in this day probably would've given up a stalling point
By today's rules Hendricks would have been DQ'd from the match for stalling for his performance in the second round. But of course, they would have modified their action to fit the rules.
Great match!
I think no starting on the shoulder is the revenge for the terribly officiated 2006 ncaa finals
QUICK backpoints... fire the ref
Perry got pretty lucky there, that near fall was WAF. Hendricks out wrestled him, no way that was a near fall.
I'm not a Hendricks fan, but that was a job by the ref. No back points should have been awarded in that situation.
They had to make amends for the year prior. Hendricks was pinned. Twice. And still won. Then he ran around the mat with his OK State flag like he actually accomplished something.
that was definitely a 2 count and I don't like Iowa.
Sooo awsome!!
Was Johny on the juice back then too?
You know who was.......... Zahid Valencia and Kyle Snyder
Norrin Radd what? How do you figure Zahid is? I understand Kyle, he is built like a silverback.
@@greatstate58 zahid tested positive for a recreational drug at an international tournament.
RazzBerry yeah a recreational drug not a performance enhancing drug.
back point 2 count is very suspect.

I wonder how John was able to coach against his nephew? He must not be close with Mark at all.
Did Johnny do any freestyle after college?

Kessel was a NJ State Champion.
Hendricks “controversial win”. You mean he was pinned by Churella and the ref was too unqualified to realize it.
In college they hated Johnny and also in mma.
why is that ?
PheseantNetsuke steroids idk why in college
@@buckleupteddy because and I believe it that Ryan churella of Michigan got cheated out of a national title in 2006
This ref had money on Hendricks or something
All refs should verbalize whether or not they’ve awarded points in a close takedown situation.
Definitely
Johnny died in the 3rd period. SMH
perry was just too big for hendrix
Before Johnny became a bum.
If Johnny is a bum, then I wish I was a bum. Plz
Pretty hot wife for a bum lol
Hendricks was a beast in MMA up until 2015.
That had to be a takedown by Hendricks in the beginning, and perry didn't have his hand on the elbow on top multiple times idk
Yeah, definitely a takedown at the beginning. It was ridiculous.
