Stylers from curl up are the first ones I used during first month on CG. It is really helping in the transition phase as I get my best hair days with these stylers. I love how well defined and moisturised my curls look whenever I use them. And almost the entire week there’s no frizz. I have low porosity 2b/2c hair and it suits me very well.
But the fragrance, OMG! I am not someone who gets fussy about fragrance in my haircare products but this is just so overpowering. They really need to change it!
Also I’m going to stick to my reequil murumuru conditioner only since that has insane slip as well and doesn’t come with an overpowering fragrance which you are saying the one from curl up has.😓

Such a great coincidence. I started using this range from today. The shampoo and conditioner itself had so much fragrance that I skipped the leave-in for now. Will try incorporating slowly. The product performance is good. But the fragrance needs to be toned down. Thanks for this review.

Great Video Mich. I have also tried the curl up oil and I think it’s the best for sotc. I also have the gel and I think it’s really good as it doesn’t dry out my hair. I haven’t tried all the other products as I also don’t much care for strong fragrances. Thanks so much for the detailed description.

Also it's true that the leave in conditioner is not budget friendly, that's why I never tried it. Hope they launch small size of the product..
Yup. Budget to me is Rs 350.
Please help and write to the brand on instagram. We must have an 80gm bottle of the leave in. It solves so much! A total win win. It's more than enough for 2.5 months of use on long hair IMO.

Both for moisturization. If I had to pick the one I like more from the range, I'd choose the mask.

I'm in a transition phase and wanted to know why does my hair ( high porosity, 2b 2c and 3a) gets weighed down or feels heavy from lengths after 2nd wash day ?
Even the pattern becomes wonky and assymetric no matter even if I refresh with water .like should I just keep patience or am I doing something wrong? ( I used FMC curl quenching butter and flax seed jelly plus the styling gel from protien duo)
Could it be possibly due to heavy styling product?
If your hair is high Porosity, it should be losing moisture during the week and becoming lighter.
Are you sure of your porosity?
You could definitely use something lighter and see if it works. But something doesn't sound right.
Do you have an oily scalp? Are you using too much serum? Are you refreshing too much? Maybe do less and see if it works better. For a few select sections try my pin curl refresh technique between washes
@@MichelleManuel yes .I have an itchy ..and oily scalp and yes my hair does loose moisture very quickly but the refreshing thing I just started a week ago

I have a request can you do a video on how to do CGM quickly like from washing your hair to applying leave in and gel.
CGM requires quite lot of time I'm afraid that I might not be able to catch up always.
I think maybe watch my rake and scrunch video. It's a super fast routine. It might work for you. The results won't be as great as a longer routine. But it's something right?

Hey... I'm medium to high porosity with 2b 2c hair. Started cg journey a month back with Arata. My hair loose done n become frizzy after Day 2. So you recommend curlup or fixmycurl products? 😊
I am using just herbs hair mask for a month on ur recommendation.
And I must say that it is the best hair mask I have used so far...its a bit expensive for a college student like me...but for beautiful curls why not spend some more money 😉

Sharing my personal experience with Curlup :
I have been using the curlup shampoo, conditioner, curl defining cream and ultradefining gel.
No hate but my hairfall has intensified ever since i started using these products 😢
I have a low porosity hair and the shampoo just ain't it for me. Neither does it cleanses my scalp but I started losing lots of hair.
Conditioner gives quite a good slip and feels good while the hair is still damp but it doesn't make your hair soft once it's dry it gets back to being rough so I think it'd work alright if you use a good antifrizz serum after drying.
About the stylers I must say it's got exceptional hold both the cream and gel is good but if u wanna maintain the curls for longer periods, a satin haircover is a must while sleeping!!
Personally I don't care much about the smell.
Overall I'd give it a 3.0/5 and would probably not purchase it again 🥲

The FMC leave in is the only one that is a protein product sadly. If it's too light use the log method. I have a video on it. It might help.

It’s actually a tad bit heavy for me since I have fine, wavy hair. I have to experiment with the quantity, I guess. I am currently using the Wow Nutrition Water Hair Spray - saw you talking about it in one of your videos and that one’s working okay for me.
I actually had another query too - so, I have noticed that whenever I create curl clumps with a comb, they become stringy after SOTC. So, now I avoid creating clumps altogether, just scrunch. Do you think a styling brush, like a Denman would help?

If a comb is giving you stringy clumps try something with wider teeth or simple do praying hands and scrunch. Watch my rake and scrunch video for info on clumps. My Denman gives me medium clumps.

Just wanted to know the trick for that bouncy curls.. I'm getting definition and managing to take it thru 4 to 5 days... but I have seen some youtubers flaunting the bouncing curls shaking their head... I also apply dc once a week and I wash twice a week.. one wash with shampoo and one plain wash with conditioner... and stylers..
If your hair is all the same length, it might not bounce per say. I think it's a trick that you can do with layers and a light leave in conditioner

Hi Michelle, I have noticed some of cgm products that I bought after your recommendation like fix my curls hair butter and mom co shampoo gives me itchy scalp and skin. My skin on neck turns red. I wonder how safe are these. Internationally deva curl has fucked up big time so idk. These both are so strong smelling too.
Please discontinue use. You may have an allergic reaction? Please go to a doctor and get some tests done.
I did mentioned the smell of the FMC curl quenching hair butter in each of my videos. I mentioned it over and over again. Of this I'm certain.
The moms co shampoo does not trigger my migraines. I found the smell quite mild. But migraines triggers differ from person to person. I can only comment on my own personal triggers so there's that.

Your log video was very helpful. I have low to medium porosity hair and I love coconut oil. Especially the parachute coconut and aloe vera oil.
Is coconut oil good for moisturizing or is it just good for pre poo ??
Dry and coarse hair rejects coconut oil.
Fine or medium hair absorbs it.
Low porosity hair doesn't do well with coconut oil.
Coconut oil can help to reduce protein loss especially from high porosity hair but is also known to add to the problem when facing protein overload.
You could watch my video on oils to learn about the oils that would suit you best.

Hi Michelle, my hair tends to get dry post using the curl up leave in cream. I am relatively new to the curly/wavy hair journey. Don't know why that happens
Do you seal your hair with a gel when you style? Or an oil or serum while you SOTC?
Do you have high porosity hair that struggles with moisture retention?
@@MichelleManuel I've tried using set wet gel but hair get in the same condition despite that. While SOTC I either use satin cloth or a tad bit of jojoba oil. I mostly have high porosity hair as far as I can gauge
Ahhh ok. So maybe switch to a gel that doesn't dry your hair out. Check out a cg friendly gel based on your requirement for hold. I would suggest a medium hold.
Don't skip the gel
Don't skip DC
Use a heat cap
Don't skip oil when you sotc
Watch my video on serums and use some of those techniques on between wash days.
Use my pin curl refresh technique as well
If all else fails try the log method. I have a video on it.

Which one do you prefer Michelle, fmc hair butter or curl up leave in??
FMC hair butter is level 4. Curl up leave in cream is level 3. My hair is fine with a level 3 product.
Curl up works better for me on a normal washdays. Less frizz as well whereas the FMC hair butter is my go-to when I pin curl refresh (since it gives me hold) I can use it as a one and done.

(Sadly both products trigger my migraines and so I am not able to use them during certain months)

Michelle, following the CG method has made my hair so flat. I see no volume. My hair looked so much better when I wasn't doing anything except for wash + diffuse. Any suggestion, please?
I think there might be an issue.
Maybe your curls are weighed down.
Try upside down styling.
Try root clipping
See my updated routine and how I comb from beneath my top sections. It gives me root lift.
There could be many solutions to root volume.
Maybe it isn't a root volume issue at all though.
Check to see if your hair is weighed down.
There are many possible solutions to this issue.
You'll need to experiment a bit.

Hey Michelle,Is it okay to use water every day to refresh our curl and if we are going out for job how we can refresh every day (quickly)
1. Dilute a bit of leave in conditioner in a spray bottle and spritz on your hair
2. Use a serum that you can mix with water (watch my cg friendly serums video for context)
Or do a superficial technique like the pincurl refresh. It's super quick and easy

Did you mean the leave in conditioner and the gel?
You can use these products whenever you want to style your hair. It's a level 3 product to keep that in mind. It's on the heavier side for sure

They actually made the changes I requested. Removed dmdm hydantoin. Gave us a smaller sized gel as well.
Only thing is, they reduced the fragrance. Didn't change it altogether like I would have wanted. But it's okay. Small wins right?

I've been watching your videos for last 3 months and gaining courage to start cgm.
I've ordered curl up products and will start from next week.
I have a small doubt, pls clarify.
1) should I wash off the conditioner or let it as leave in conditioner?
2) what is the order of the product application?
Shampoo, conditioner, curl defining cream, gel. Is it right?! And all of these should be applied to wet/damp hair right?!
Hey Sarah.
Wash off the conditioner completely and make sure you have nothing left on your scalp especially.
The order is
Shampoo
Condition
In shower. Wash off completely.
Then do the leave in cream
End with gel
Try wet hair first. Scrunch out the excess water just before plopping.
If you don't get a cast you can reduce the amount of water in your hair.

I generally use a hard hold gel. It seems to hold up pretty well. You could also watch my video on serums. I've demonstrated a few techniques to help retain definition

Depends on how heavy you like your products to be and how much hold you want. I don't use oil after the cream. I just a gel and sotc with an oil

Curl up products are very heavy for me cz it has shea butter. But my sister loves it. I am still looking for lighter products which does not have any butters or anything too moisturizing. Could you recommend some?

Shampoo will depend on your scalp type and lather preferences.
The leave in is a level 3. You could go for something lighter imo.
Gel will suit everyone looking for medium hold.

I haven't used cantu. I can't randomly suggest. If you have a higher porosity and a tight curl pattern the curl up cream may be a good fit

Only using only the curlup gel is fine or do we need to use the curlup defining cream aswell ?
Some people use only gel. It doesn't work for some hair types that need more moisturization

I haven't used the FMC shampoo and conditioner. I think your best bet is to start with lighter products. I have a video on leave in conditioner's in India. Please have a look. Also have a look at my porosity to understand your porosity better. I would strongly suggest watching these 2 videos.

There are other ways to get extra moisturization. Please don't break the bank. You can eventually save up and get these products when you're ready.
Use the LOG method with your current leave in conditioner for now. Watch my log video. You'll be able to make a light leave in conditioner work for you.

Mam What do you suggest for low porosity hair - shirolepum hair mask or curl up hydrating hair mask??
It depends on your curl type as well. You can use either of these if you have a tighter curl pattern. And if you have wavy hair, maybe try something lighter like the plum mask. Try the sample size before buying the full size please. If it's too light for you then go with a heavier mask like the curl up mask or the shirolepam mask

Damage to cuticle ie high porosity.

Today I've watched many of your videos and found that this floating test is not a confirmatory test. Now I think I probably belong to high porosity. As you are now an expert in this cg method, and I am just about to start it up. So your every suggestions means a lot to me. By watching your videos I am choosing products. @@butterfly4853 thanks so much. Ok then for now we can operate under the assumption that you have high porosity hair. I would suggest either the shirolepam or the curl up hair mask. And for a leave in conditioner go with a level 3 product. If you currently have something lighter you can use the LOG method to get more moisture.

I am not aware of the products available in Pakistan. Do you have any curly creators in your country? What do they typically use?
I would suggest using whatever you have there. If you can't follow cg that's fine. Many curly people don't follow cg and still use the same techniques and hair routines.

I've used curl up products! I've got really really good results after using it for the first time however the aftr I used it the second time my curls were not as good as I got the result before. It did become a lil frizzy too. What am I doing wrong?
Maybe you have buildup. Try clarifying your hair and start off afresh. Maybe it will make a difference. Let me know

If you're experiencing hairfall please don't use it. I've mentioned he possible allergens in the video. Maybe you're having a reaction to them.
Another shampoo that I have tried out is earth rhythm shampoo bar for wavy and curly hair. It has no fragrance and it has made my hair a bit softer. I have just started using it so my hair will probably get better as I keep using it. I have ordered the conditioner bar as well and will put down my experience on that after a couple of uses.
Yes. I really like that about earth rhythm products. They really cater to curly girls and boys with migraine issues

The brand is definitely a cgm fav in India. A lot of textured haired people swear by their products.
It won't surprise me if a lot of people like the fragrance as well.
As for me, in 2017, I got diagnosed with pcos. I developed horrible migraines. I used to love fragrances too. Now many of my old favs trigger me. I can't take basil, lavender, anything floral, woods, vanilla and so many more.
I'm ok with select subtle citric, sweet and aqua fragrances.
It's a pity because I used to really enjoy perfumes and nice smelling hair products. :(
Hi Michelle I have just started on my CG journey and as you rightly pointed out I guess it's a long way to go with a lot of patience! I do have a query for oiling CG hair, can we oil if yes which products to use to get the grease out! When I oil & try to shampoo twice my hair becomes frizzy! Would love to hear from you on this.. Am also having a challenge figuring out type of wavy hair 2a , 2b it's really stressful!

It's easier to wash off the oil when you follow this method.
For dry lengths, you seal with an oil at the end after you SOTC.
If you watch my video on cg friendly shampoos I've mentioned the ones thay wash off oil well.
If none of them work, then try a clarifying shampoo.

Low porosity hair can able to dry. In some cases like low porosity 2a hair, I wouldn't be able to suggest this cream. This product will suit you based on porosity and curl type, if you have a high porosity and a tighter curl type, if your hair has a higher need for moisturization, you hair might benefit from the product. If you hair gets weighed down easily, it might not be a good fit for you.

if you have wavy hair or less defined curls then the curl cream might weigh your definination down , atleast thats how is is for me

I am a beginner in cg routine. Accordingly I am using the cg friendly products nd following the routine. After shampooing and applying conditioner my hair feels soft nd tangled free, but once I start scrunching my hair with the conditioner on it becomes super tangled. On the contrary, if I apply the same conditioner and don't scrunch my hair, I don't get that much tangles.
My main problem is super frizzy hair but I am scared to scrunch my hair now for the fear of getting them tangled.😂 Any solution?
If your hair is getting defined without scrunching, feel free not to scrunch.
Scrunching should be done with utmost care with a light hand. Ideally it shouldn't cause tangles at all.
Maybe your hair is not wet enough? Either way, best thing to do right now is watch content and find routines that require no scrunching. There's a no scrunch challenge on youtube that you might want to look up. You'll find some great ideas on how some people define their curls without scrunching. Maybe you'll find a gem or two there.
Feel free to experiment and find a routine that is best suited to you. Once you're more confident in your styling skills, re-explore the idea of scrunching and see if you're still experiencing tangles.

Can men use these products to get curly hair
You won't 'get' curly hair per say. Meaning of your hair is straight, you can't use this stuff and make your hair curly. It won't be able to manipulate your natural texture.
These products can be used by all genders. If you have naturally curly hair, curly hair products will help to moisturize, define, enhance and hold your curls. Hope this helps
So basically all the products have artificial fragrance which is irritating too. Isn't it dangerous for our health? Are these products sulfate and paraben free?
They're sulphate, silicone and paraben free. As I stated in the video the shampoo, conditioner and leave in conditioner have very strong fragrances. Best to direct this question to the brand itself. Personally I've reached out and requested them to do something about the fragrance. I'm hoping that if we all make efforts and write to them and express our concerns, they'll be more open to formulation changes in the future. My main concern is with dmdm hydantoin. This ingredient can potentially cause issues for people who are allergic to it. Dr Dray has a brilliant video on it that I would recommend watching to learn more.

I used to use the BBlunt leave in cream and used it for 2 years. I started having so much hairfall and breakage that I just stopped using it finally. My advise… stay far away from it.
After hair dry can I comb my hair?
If you comb your hair after it dries you'll lose all that definition. Your clump will break and you'll be left with frizzy undefined hair.

Only apply on soaking wet hair and emulsify the products well.
There is some pilling and bunching with the products. The gel is also somewhat thick. You'll need to emulsify and apply on soaking wet hair to avoid flakes. If you use way too much product near your roots, you'll get flakes.
Curlup was the first brand that i came to know about when i decided to start cgm....but never used the products because of the reviews on amazon😅😅😅😅😅felt like it won't suit......will give leave in a try as migrane is not a problm for me....but i am afraid the fragrance will make my hair smell bad too🤔🤔🤔
It's not a bad smell. It's a strong perfume like smell.
Ultimately preference for fragrance boils down to one's personal aesthetics. I might personally hate chanel* no 5, whereas the majority of world loves it. That's a separate issue.
In that way I feel like it's subjective no?
My point was less on aesthetics and more focused on fragrances triggering migraines.
