Looks like a demo level with no working CPU player at all. lol
When you moved to objective 4 at the 30:50 mark this is how we trained with the A-10s back in the early 1980s (and later on) performing JAATs with AH-1s and later on the AH-64s. The best way to defeat this type of target is to have a "time on target" for all ordnance to land on the enemy at the same time. Artillery fires, attack helicopters fire, all the ordnance impacts at the same time (to the second) while the A-10s pull up and roll inverted (due to a low altitude ingress) to see where the impacts are in order to quickly see exactly where the enemy is. Once the A-10s start their attack the attack helicopters stop firing until the A-10 makes a break and then the attack helicopters start firing to cover the A-10s break. This continues until the enemy is eliminated or until all ordnance is expended. Use this technic next time you run a scenario similar to this one. The AH-64 will usually use a hover fire position at least 5K away and use the 8k range of the hellfire missile to stay out of most direct fire weapons.
Lol, Great to see an actual fellow vet with combat know-how to boot. All I'd guess is eyes-on target / low ceiling till contact and light them up.
Makes you wonder how much tactics have changed since Iraq and Afghanistan
I used to be the board admin for the biggest A-10 site on the web, and can verify.
This is exactly how the USAF would've used the A-10 during the cold war. It is exactly what it was designed for.
Low and slow in the weeds, using it's massive gun and fantastic turning radius to operate under SAM nets vs armored columns.
Cap, you should re-run this scenario with AH64 first, and then with F35s. I bet the Apaches will do the best of the three.
Might as well do su-25s for comparison to what ukraine already has.
AH-PAH-CHEEEEE!!
Remember the movie dark 30? Those were Apache with stealth coverings.
@@Michael-rg7mx If you meant the title “Zero Dark Thirty“, then those were modified Black Hawks
@@MaxIsStrange1
Would they work?
Caps disappointment when the boys crash at the start makes me laugh so hard every time lol " Really...Really.. Get another one" lol
S-400 complexes are rarely deployed without Pantsirs nearby, you should try adding a few Pantsir-S1 per site for more realism.
Those videos are for the lols, not serious at all, obviously, since their setups near to never make any sense.
"Really, really? Get another one....get another two!" 🤣
Matrix and Cannonball were hot today, just when it was needed. Violent(sic) Moon is quite the dark horse with her surviving to hit the S400 at the end.
Fun flying from everyone.
Loving the work Cap. Have you ever done a fuel efficiency race? Like Top Gear did from Switzerland to Blackpool? Might be a giggle to see everyone try and work out the balance between speed and fuel.
Cap did something like that roughly a year or so ago..... all I remember is cap taking the mirage 2k running it full bore with tanks till he was out of fuel and figure out his glide slope to the finish line 😆 🤣
@@TexasTerpz27 The aerodynamic/drag modeling of the M2000 is completely broken lol.
@@rubiconnn agreed! However, what if GR did it with an agreed upon single airframe everyone used. Remove the variable and watch cap have a midlife crisis deciding when to go full burners or super-cruise every 2min.🤣
I did a couple of years back but TBH it really just highlighted a lot of problems with realism in the core game, so decided I best not do it again.
A very interesting experiement. But perhaps a dull video for most.
S400:Phew phew
A10 warthog:BRRRRRT!
The A10 is not a particularly great aircraft though.
Violet Moon is getting good fast…as Cap says “Well Done” 😃
Right, time to sit down with a coffee. Thank you all
Pleasure
36:50 that was amazing i almost choked on my tea
Cap is a damn lethal gunner against ground targets. Watching his careful bursts hitting 3 or 4 vehicles before he pulls away is impressive in contrast to other gun runs in this battle sim. *edit* actually that's unfair, Cannonball and Matrix had amazing gunnery later on, of course that's all they could really use with the growler threat. Great run!
I've noticed he is not quick on the trigger in the air a lot of the time....but in the A10, he's got the touch and eye and timing
@@krismurphy7711 agreed.
Violet: The center of your left wing looks like swiss cheese
Me: That'll buff out.
Should try this mission with two HARM equipped MiG-29s along for the ride
Air force, oh thank God we got ride of those old a-10s finally
was starting to feel a littel sorry for the guys on the ground. that was relentless. great work as always
I'm impressed again with the skills of Matrix and Violet...
Violet moon is becoming my favorite pilot.
That's a great observation Cap made that all of this fancy technology just to get back to essentially WW2 style fighting.
You know what Ukraine needs more than A-10s? C-130s with CIWS mounted on them like they're B25s, to take out S-400s.
That’s a terrible idea sead works against Sam’s whatever you just said would end up a burning heap of scrap
The Ghost of William E. Boeing is laughing hysterically:
"And now for the ultimate pinnacle of warfighting! The Super-Duper Fortress!"
We could all place bets on how many minutes it was in the air before it got shot down.
Still have all the old Thrustmaster and CH stuff in the basement, but the best stick I ever used was a Suncom.
Thing was built to club baby seals, and still fly better than all the others.
Cap redeemed himself in my eyes. He was absolutely lethal in the A-10 in this video. Well done.
Re. Cap's summary comment: -"No air force would actually operate that low"... The current Commander of the Swedish Armed Forces (Micael Bydén) was a Viggen pilot in the 80:s (?). At that time the Swedish AF always practiced "hot" for war (extremely low flying actually sniffing the ground) and, as Cap correctly assumed, "training as we fight in war" cost us a few pilots each year.
Our ÖB (ÖverBefälhavare=S.A.F. Commander) shared an anecdote from one of his (night I hope) flights when doing a solo "Summer Talk" radio show in 2020: (Circumstances subj. to my recollection but the result is accurate)
-Shortly after landing, the service crew sought him out in the cantina and walked him back to his Viggen in the hangar to show him what they had found...
One of the wings was pierced by a sizable, still attached, branch from a fir tree!! -
Side note: I am absolutely convinced that the effectiveness of S400 in game is greatly exaggerated (as most current Russian "tech").
Cheers and thanks for great content!

Wow Cap, just an amazing shot there of your bombs decimating that site. 👊 🍻
Just in awe of the skill level your team displays!
Didn't someone recently use F-18's for this very type mission - although the target was only 3m wide - lol - TGM
"This is nearly impossible" - Cap
A-10s destroy literally everything, including the S400 site itself.
"you keep using that word but I don't think you know what it means," - The Princess bride
Would be interesting to see if ground troop laser designators increased the hit rate with laser rockets.
The US used them in Iraq and Afghanistan. I knew a guy with the CIA who operated one.
@@Michael-rg7mx I think it would make hitting the targets easier - point in the general direction and shoot.
Would love to know the price difference between all those s400 missiles and ground units vs
the a10s lost
That does not matter,a single bullet can take out a soldier worth hundreds of thousands of dollars
For almost a month of the 6 I spent playing in the sand, once the "air war" started, I got to see these flying out over us. Fully loaded outgoing, empty coming home, they'd wing waggle us both ways.. So many sorties a day for like 27 straight days I lost count... They softened everything up for us Army types.. I got there in August with the Patriot battery I was then attached to, and after a few days acclimating in the "Tent City" (Which I think is now a permanent base) we headed out to set up shop on the Iraq border in the DEEP desert... Memorable times
Cap's good at low low low; A-10 role. Good vision, video and flying.
"I don't think the Air force would ever use them this way."
This is literally how the Air Force trained to use A-10s during the cold war.
I watch this, and I'm reminded of that line from "Lord of War". "And while the biggest arms dealer in the world is your boss, the President of the United States, who ships more merchandise in a day than I do in a year, sometimes it's embarrassing to have his fingerprints on the guns. Sometimes he needs a freelancer like me to supply forces he can't be seen supplying." It would not at all surprise me to see A-10's quietly showing up in Ukraine. All things considered.
Easy. Just launch 20-30 HIMARS rockets at the SAM site as the A-10s are inbound.
First wave is large swarms of drones for the anti-air radar to lock onto them; immediate second wave is copious amounts of himars, third wave is unopposed A10s
Joy😊 I adore this jet! It'll make huge tactical impact in the war. I'd send a couple Mig29s with Harms to capitalize on the nails from the S400, I'm sure that's what they'll do. Love the UAF liveries on the Warthogs.
I agree 100%
I want to see an A-10 with as many gun and cannon pods as you can strap to the thing as some kind of insane moar-dakka build.
Would it be good? Probably not. Would it be funny? I dunno, what do you think?
They don't use cannon pods, so far as I'm aware. They can use their own cannon for a few seconds, while it blows through all its ammunition and that's it.
Never enough DAKKA!!
@@Xenomorphine it has 1150 rounds, so GAU-8 cannon could be operated a bunch of "few seconds" though ;) ^^
Can you get a lawnmower attachment for the A-10? You could have been cutting the grass at the same time.
lol
Those A-10s look slick in Ukrainian livery.
Also: GET SUM!
Приємно бачити відео такої теми, привіт з України!
It’s a great day!
Impressive Cap....you have an eye for the 30mm in the A10
I’m just here for the BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT!
The reality is that the USN would have EA-18G "Growlers" jamming the S400 (at least reducing its effectiveness) and HARM missile would be fired at the S400's as would GMLRS.
Might be a silly question, but would the launch show up on an AWACS type platform and it could do the role Violet was doing calling them out? If so could you do short pop ups while engresing low level to trick the SAM's into waisting ammo before they can accurately hit you? Maybe even run a wagon wheel pattern round it with multiple A/C as a "Caveman tech Wild Weasle"? Until they have nothing to shoot then send the strike package in to the target?
Yea theoretically but youd have to know how many missiles your enemy has and that's also assuming that your enemy will fire on every lock they get and not waiting until the kill probability of the missle is much higher, and you ignore all the different types of shorter range SAM systems that there are.
Only a drunk pilot would fly an A10 Warthog into an S-400 system
Only a _really_ drunk pilot would succeed.
Should do a low dog fight with 2 squadrons over a theme park. Would be cool cinematics, see who can dog fight below the deck without hitting the rides . 😁
Someone tag Cap.
Grinnelli F-22 Raptor & F-15EX/AIM-120D VS SU-57 Felon & MIG-31/R-37M👍
I wonder if a change in tactics would have helped your loss rate - like hitting the outermost targets first and moving inward? You ended up going face-first into the teeth a lot.
Why wouldn't you attack the Sam site first, take that out and increase odds on other sites.
Because it's on Russian soil. That is beyond NATO's remit.
GRIM REAPERS! first of all sorry for the all caps start but i have a question. I recently read an article in which it was reported that finnish and swedish fighters took part in a military exercise. What im wondering is if they were pitted against each other in a dogfight who would win the swedish saab or the finnish F/A 18Cs. Im not expecting a video but if one of you would care to voice your opinion on the matter i would be interested in what you have to say
Way to go Cannonball, friggin Hero
A-10's and F-16's need to be sent to Ukraine!👍👍👍
Lol. All of this tech just to level the playing field back to 70 years ago
What kind of bombs were used to take out the antenna at the s300 site? Balloon?
To make it more releastic that one guy left firing would've surrendered lol
Just a quick question Cap, those tall red and white towers, aren't they communition towers? In other words if you just happen to take them down, wouldn't that help you to cause confusion with there con checks?
Well they are communication towers but they are more likely just AM/FM radio towers along with some microwave stuff for cell phones and TV, most militaries have their own separate comms systems for that exact reason. They just use them here as and easy way to mark targets so you can find them from a distance
@@connorjohnson4402
Oh ok, I thought those where military all the way, but yeah, sure, you know the guys on the ground need their daily dose of propaganda tv and Russian soap operas with Moscow's favorite TV personality Vlad Solo... 😄
Did you guys include the SAM SA-21 S-400 51P6A TEL B which has the 9M96E2 as part of your S-400 site? Evidently you opted not to include the Pantsir :-), end result would probably be entirely different 🙂, enjoy your videos, Best regards, Strigoi_dk, Co-conspirator of the SAMPack_S-300_Series mod.
Same mission add couple migs with harm attacking s400
Harm might work nicely
Tornados with their banned pods would love this :D
I wonder with the low flying if the Bronco or Pucana would work better?
Why not a direct go at the sams?
Bonus points for the Ukranian livery/camo. Looked great.
I wonder if Russian ground units would even try to engage A-10s... or just run away from their vehicles.
They'd grab their Iglas and have a shooting match.
On the ground of the southern Ukraine frontlines its not just S-400 but also Tors, Pantsirs and manpads.
Maybe try 10 miles coming in on the ground in formation and then pop up cluster and the scarper.
You could A10 Warthogs and P-47D Thunderbolts (I figure A10 fanatics are the kind that would also be P-47 fanatics). They'd just end up getting shot down by MANPADS.
Can't the S-400 guide via AWACS though? I know you don't have that feature in DCS, but it'd be a pretty big problem for A-10s IRL.
To make this more realistic, add a wild-weasel with modern HARM missiles. That will deal with the S-400.
They can't even keep more agile Mig 29s and Su 27s in the air right NOW, much less when they roll out slow A10s.
Oh no the friendly fire machine
Looks like the A10's are still valid attackers as long as they stay low. Wondering wehy the mavericks werent used.
Yeah, in a video game with an idiotic setup.
In reality Russian air defense is layer after layer after layer.
Something like the A-10 is absolute worthless against it.
A dream I had. Apache helos, with Maverick missile type things that were cluster bombs. I don't think that weapon exists.
That's a mission for low flying stealthy drones, and lots of them. If you didn't spend all that money on A-10 and stuff, there would be lots of money for them.
A cluster Mav you say ... interesting concept. I kinda like it. A guided, stand-off cluster missile. But if, at it's core, you're sticking a cluster bomb warhead onto the motor of a Maverick it'd only have something like 1/4 the bomblets as a CBU-87. That's not such a bad thing, as a normal clusterbomb seems to greatly oversaturate targets anyway.
Other issue is that an Apache would only be able to carry 4 such missiles. So a 1 Apache = 1 CBU. But with a more focused use of munitions, maybe 4 Apache's could do the equivalent of say 6 or 7 CBUs.
As for firing them from a 'large number of stealthy drones' ... sure, you could. But you're talking about drones roughly the size of the MQ9 Reaper (if not bigger). The Reaper isn't stealthy, nor is it cheap. So in the end, such a drone would probably marginally cheaper than an F35 but less versatile. What would be more useful to an airforce: 60 such drones, or 40 F35s?
@@dgthe3 Very well. How about low flying Tomahawk or the sort, with a CBU. Flat terrain. Surely there's a cruise missile that can fly low enough to get the party started.
@@m1t2a1 Oh, just to be clear: I really do like the idea of the Cluster-Mav. I'm honestly a bit surprised that a medium weight missile like that doesn't exist. I believe there is currently a cluster glide bomb, but that isn't very useful for helicopters or slow & low ground attack aircraft like the A-10. Think of the havoc an A-10 could cause with a loadout of such missiles.
As for a Cluster Tomahawk: now that you mention it, I think they had/have exactly that. And if I remember correctly, it was intended mainly for taking out airbases. Possibly (as in I have a very hazy recollection of something I heard ~20 years ago and I might be imagining it all) doing multiple 'dumps' of bomblets in the target area. So for an airbase, they might program it to drop some on the fuel storage tanks, some along the flight line, some on the fuel trucks, etc. Again that is IF one cruise missile could do multiple drops.
Inaccurate.
Half of the S-400 crews aren't drunk and the other half still exist.
Oh and it helps if Air Defense knows what it's doing too.
10 guys with manpads would ruin your day, these things are very effective on open terrain (no popping up with flaring) and they are the real treat for a10s in this scenario, not some s400 site miles away.
So what you need is an A10 with extra gun pods if you can't fire missiles at low alt or lob the gbu's in an arc.
In before “source: Lazerpig”
The second I saw todays vid title I immediately thought "oh Lazerpig would have a field day with this one"
I love this channel
Wouldn't flying this low easily open them up to MANPADS?
Then they would get shafted by advanced AA, better off taking a chance with the man pads
Yup
Do it again, but work in pairs. Come in low and fast with tue a10 with some high altitude jammers like a prowler,/e8
The lesson from this war is the cas mission needs to be centered around precision fires at the battalion level and short range loitering munitions or data linked missiles like the Spike. People just need to accept that the days of gun-runs, be it fixed wing or rotorcraft are over, and the new reality is a lot less sexy.
It really just comes down to the fact that modern weapon miniaturization and capacity have made target acquisition the deciding factor in a engagement, whereas previously weapon capability played a far more important role. Just think of a ww1 infantryman vs a tank compared to today's infantryman armed with a atgm who can engage a mile away peeking over a shrub covered wall.
This is also why I feel the guiding principle of utility of future weapons platforms will be there capability of situational awareness in proportion to there signature. A tank is still viable if it has 360 degree multi spectrum sensors with motion activated automated enemy suppression systems coupled to a wired arial drone providing complete real time enhanced awareness.
While a see tanks making the evolutionary bottleneck the attack helicopter and low and close style cas support platforms won't, they're just too conspicuous.
You're assuming that the defences are operating at the maximum of supply, training, morale and command. All evidence seems to be the contrary
Evidance from western propaganda mind. There is also evidance the other way which is Ukraine are flying less sorties than the iraq's were back in the day......
Ukraine gaining air superiority. Thats ambitious
What realtic of this game . Is that actually the Ukraine are using flight simulator for the A-10. Good show.. 😊
Has there ever been a good modeling done of the AH-64?
You need a couple of HARM equipped birds. :)
Proper SEAD goes a long way.
I'm curious how F18 Growlers would change the effectiveness of any Russian SAM site. Electronic warfare from modern air force would more than equalize any advantage of an s400 site, if any advantage even exists. Imagine modern electronic warfare paired with F35s in Ukraine. Air superiority for sure and quickly achieved
Those SAM's would be jammed, and destroyed well before A-10's were cleared hot.
I have not ideas how Growlers work TBH.
A plane often relying on visual target confirmation , known for several friendly fire incidents because of that .. And someone thinks it´s a good idea to have it fly around in a war where both sides uses the same equipment...
90 seconds in and I'm assuming it's going to be a bloodbath. Unfortunately thunderbolt/warthog blood spilled. Let's see!!
The SU25s have been taking out the S300s and a few S400s. So I’d like to know why they were able to take out all of the air defenses, to provide air support for guys on the ground.
No they haven't, they consistently get shot down. All s300 kills are due to byraktar drone or ground fire and I'm not sure that they even lost any s400s
Those Ukrainian paint schemes look awesome
The thing is in real life the pilot isn't going to knew when the missile launches and when it detonates they won't even know if it's targeting them
Great video but I think the Ukrainians are better off asking for more artillery to help them with the ground war. The A-10s would be absolute maintenance hogs if they were lucky to make it back.
Flying down in the weeds also puts you within MANPAD country. Luckily none were present in this scenario.
Could you try out if Ukraine could make good use of CIWS to protect troops and structures against russian cruise missiles and drone strikes? Still wondering that they didn‘t get that yet
A-10 vid, I like, it's a simple thing..
Now do AH-1Z Vipers
Those poor A10s. 😞
Hilarious watching them drop their nuggies on the S-400
In reality, not a single A-10 could even fly up to the range of a cannon shot ...
Without support...true. With HARMS support though, you'd easily be able to shut down any SAM, aside from Manpads.
A-10 wings, 2 installed, 1 required.
Check previous videos about the A10 reliability. It definitely needs both wings to fly. Even if a small chunk comes off one of the wings the asymmetric lift will make the plane uncontrollable.
@@rubiconnn pilots: Captain Paul Johnson lost his wing down to the right gear 1991
Captain Kim Campbell suffered massive damage of her tail. 2003.
It is a joke in the air force for aircraft equipment lists. Flight computer 2 installed 1 required. engine 4 installed 4 required.
@@baziwan9407 Neither of those incidents resulted in any substantial amount of missing parts of the aircraft. They were hit by SAMs which resulted in fragmentation damage. One lost a piece of a panel about 10" wide on the leading edge of the wing and the other lost the tail cap panel on the very back of the aircraft and a small piece of the elevator.
That more accurately describes the F-15. One of those really did fly and get home safely despite missing an entire wing. The A-10 couldn't do that because it lacks the body lift.
I think S-400 is 'overpowered' in DCS, compared to what I see in real life footage. Gotta work with what you have, I suppose-
Footage of any weapon system tends to be a bit misleading about its effectiveness because each side only shows the successes (or what appear to be successes) and we don't know how many failures there were. I remember the footage of Patriots in the Gulf War shooting down all those Scuds like some magical sky shield but it was only much later it came out that they'd performed pretty badly and usually missed. The fact that both sides are having such a hard time operating fixed wing aircraft and helicopters over the battlefields suggests air defence is pretty effective even if it doesn't work all the time.
