Im so tired of companies not understanding fair use

Toei is a Japanese company and Japan does not have fair use

It's not that they don't understand it, it's that they have the money to ensure that you can't fight them in court so they can push their weight around.
I believe this also happened to Jon at Mr Weenie Productions. Maybe you can reach out to him for advice on how he handled it.
This is very sad. This is the same thing that happened with Totally Not Mark. He gave a very detailed breakdown of how he dealt with this himself. Hopefully you can get through this too
Being on the musician side of things, I completely where big companies come from when it comes to copyrights and protected material. However, it's sad to see how these big companies don't look further into how channels like yours actually help their products, and usually at no cost or payment to the YT creators. Keep doing the great work, and I hope Hasbro doesn't go full-evil on you!
I went through the same exact thing with both Hasbro and Saban for years, only it wasn't just copyright claims, they would actually block my reviews worldwide whenever I tried to dispute or question what they were doing. It's really sickening that they're still doing this to fans. I sent you a DM on Instagram going more into detail on what you can do. Hope it helps.

I 100% agree,u re-ignited my passion in Power Rangers and even got me to introduce it to my son and he loved it so much i started collecting the full seasons/toys. Same thing happened with MrWeenieProductions around the time Beast Morphers was still airing. He used to make reviews all the time about the show, but after he got hit with copyright, he stopped watching full episodes and retired his reviews, he mentioned that in an older video he posted. I hope you can keep yours going, maybe no more clips?
They did the same with MrWeenieProductions. Idk why these corporations are so against the idea of fans using their content just to share their passion. The best thing to do is use the format you used for this video without any pics or clips, just you talking about the show.

I haven't been interested in Power Rangers in like 25yrs but since finding your channel I've been wanting to watch every season from the start lol. They should be paying you for helping them get more viewers/money.
I'm in the same boat. This channel got me (and my kids) back into Power Rangers. I've shown them MMPR, Zeo, Turbo, Dino Thunder, Samuri and Ninja Steel in full. Plus the movies and other random episodes. I started buying the comics because the videos on this channel made them seem so interesting. My kids have had Power Ranger toys on their birthday/Christmas wish lists and even had a Cameo from JDF, all because of this channel. The Power Rangers brand is definitely better off because of this channels efforts.
Check out Power Ranger: Unworthy. It's a bit more adult oriented but still pretty great

One of my friends got a streaming video of them playing a WWE video game taken down because of the graphic for the title match because it matched the graphic the real company uses it. I've always been a MMPR fan but watching your channel has got me buying the comics, video games and rewatching the shows.
This is the ONLY power ranger channel I follow as its always 100% spot on. They’re stupid if they try to close down this channel. But Hasbro isn’t doing that great anyways at the moment.

I missed a lot of Power Rangers growing up, so I really appreciate your videos and the deeper context you can bring from the history of the series. What a shame that they're trying to control your content this way. I think it's pretty clear that your videos fall under "fair use", though I understand that certainly doesn't stop bad actors from trying to crack down on this sort of thing. I hope either Hasbro chills out or you're able to find a solution to this. Cheers.
u didnt miss much if the disney ones. the peak/begginning u had to be alive then to experience it. no one escaped when MMPR took over even if they now like ugh u still like them. they still smirk and be like as a kid i dod love tommy/kimberly haha

Here’s some info that might help you figure out what’s going on. It’s more likely Toei than Hasbro behind this, as they’re a Japanese company, and copyright law is drastically different in Japan than it is in the west. Toei is notorious for going scorched earth on anything they think infringes on their copyrights, regardless of whether or not it actually falls under fair use, and they’re probably going after your channel because they still own the Sentai footage used for Power Rangers. And since UA-cam will 100% of the time side with the copyright holder unless you lawyer up, they typically end up being absolutely no help in this kind of situation.
Something similar happened to the anime UA-camr TotallyNotMark last winter where Toei nuked every video related to Dragon Ball, which was a large majority of his channel. This included speed drawing videos where he drew completely original characters in the DBZ style, so Toei was clearly in the wrong in this case, since they even went after videos where it was pretty clear cut that there was no copyright infringement. It almost completely ruined his career as a content creator, but he gained a lot of support online and UA-cam stepped in because of the bad optics. They did something new where they blocked his videos from being viewable in Japan so they didn’t cross Toei’s radar, and his channel has been fine since (hell, might even be better off because the incident boosted his channel’s visibility a crapton). He made a bunch of videos about it between December and January, I’d recommend checking those out. Hopefully if you are able to get in touch with UA-cam, they can work something similar out for you.
It sucks so much that this happened. No creator should have to worry about losing their livelihood because some pencil pushers don’t understand what fair use is. Hopefully you can get this resolved without too much of a headache!

The good thing is that boom studio is not coming after you. They understand free ad for them just makes them more profit and focus on the story.
Hasbro don't want fans that grew up watching the show to go back and watch it. Also do you know how long it takes to watch 3 seasons of MMPR. Not to mention the rest all the way to RPM. It took me a whole summer luckily I had a delivery job and off days I spend all day just watching. It was worth it cause it distracted me from the shitty stuff that happened to me at the time.
And watching your channel makes me want to watch the show over again.
Try to contact Hasboro itself, somehow. Things like this have been resolved between companies and UA-camr creators before.

My favorite horror Channel deadmeat was having this issue with universal music group for using like 5 second snippets in the background of videos that they are talking over and you can barley hear the music it's crazy they start copyrighted videos that were like 4 years old
You can always contest it especially if it fair use but it will take time since you can only do it one at a time

I’ve never understood companies not wanting free marketing of anything.
I was REALLY hoping Hasbro wouldn't make the same mistakes as Saban who straight up throw out copyright claims aggressively even for tiny clips of a single episode. This is ironic, as there is LITERALLY A CHANNEL THAT UPLOADS FULL UNEDITED EPISODES OF THE OLD SEASONS! Both videos AND in livestreams! How is THAT channel not deleted off the face of the internet and small channels are being attacked for small clips? I really hoped Hasbro was better than Saban with this. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
I stop watching Power Rangers RPM because I didn't care for both season of Samurai and Megaforce. But I like your channel u talk about the comic and are a fan of Power Rangers.

I myself found myself learning some lore and going out of my way to watch a few episodes of new vs old since stumbling apon your channel. 25 yrs later and you got me looking at rangers. But hasbro doing what they do, makes me want to walk away. Fair use and free positive marketing. They should be partnering with you not shutting you down.

Don't worry about it man I am a fan of PowerRangers as well , these Companies need to realize that fans are the ones that makes The franchise thrive it sounds like someone is nitpicking on your channel because you have been recognized by my man Austin St. John (Jason The Original Red Ranger). Keep your head up man keep doing what you are doing these companies need to stop bullying us true fans. Because if they continue to do it we the fans will get Fed Up and eventually go on to something else entirely. But I believe that if Austin hears about this he may help you because we the fans and actors are the ones who really/Truly make The PowerRangers. It's always about the fans nothing more nothing less.

Might be worth getting in touch with PR at Hasbro directly. Many people (myself included) enjoy your videos, and they have made me go back and rewatch old episodes.
It's like they're not looking at the videos fully, if they were they wouldn't have a problem.

I’ve been having this happen before I got a claim for a 15 second gif last week. Usually they drop it when I contest it, but when they seem to have manually find it I’ve had to re-edit or blur it which is annoying. I do get confused why some can use footage and others can’t 🤷♂️
It’s all about money at the end of it all.

When it comes to Toei that's because Japan doesn't have a comprehension of the concept of fair use. Not the understanding that they can't apply Japanese copyright law onto a US company (UA-cam). Plus the DMCA is ultimately busted to all get out. Hasbro however I'm not sure.
You know what the sixth ranger I love your content and I love power rangers I've loved the never since I was a kid I don't understand what's going on I mean I've seen your content and and it's amazing to me and and I hope you can still do the power ranger content I am like I said I'm a really big fan of power rangers I've always have been and yes I'm on your side with this because I'm really love power rangers and I always have so keep it up and just keep your heads up and I hope everything goes well with your power ranger UA-cam channel with the six ranger so like I said I'm on your side and keep it up okay take care all right.
I wish people would actually take the time to talk about issues to educate and resolve any various problems, this helps gain understanding from both sides. Instead most just wanna go down the legal route and hide behind the law which is just cowardly at best and potentially can be more harmful than good.
I wish companies would take the time to look at the whole picture and see what benefits it has for them as it's essentially free advertising and marketing which they do not have to pay for.
One thing I know laws vary from country to country and what maybe legally permitted in one region maybe not permitted in another, but most countries do marry up to a certain degree creating a gray area Don't you as a creator fall under the laws based on the country of origin you live in, and then what ever material you use falls under the country you take it from eg in your case its US I believe. So as long as you have taken measures that fall with in guidelines or exceeds what they have stipulated that is fair use, then doesn't that mean your legally clear. From what I understand senti gave permission for there footage to create what we know as power rangers so although there laws are different than ours regarding copyright and fair use, doesn't that mean by them agreeing that contract that they also agreed for that footage to fall under the countries laws to. The only way I can think of that it wouldn't is if they put a sub clause in which states that they still retain ownership and reproduction is not permitted under there law and not the US. Which in my eyes shouldn't hasbro or who ever have to state that in the credits.

Watching this channel got me back in love with Power Rangers so I bought a few seasons to watch the show again some toys, started reading the comics and bought the video game. Thats thanks to this channel. The new season on Netflix makes me be ashamed to be a current fan.

Years ago Bryan Danielson was fired from WWE and I was at the first indy show he did. He did a short promo sort of acknowledging the firing and his status, but nothing major. It got some views but never monetized, even though it could have. I just wanted to share that first promo he did as many other fans wondered what was happening with him.
YEARS later that independent company stated I had copyright material and my account was frozen. I’m not even a content creator, I just had a semi-popular video but I was stuck. Couldn’t upload, couldn’t comment, couldn’t do much or anything. I ended up deleting that account entirely and starting new. Really, really frustrating when you can’t even have an opportunity to defend or, if warranted, fix the issue. Just…blocked or, in this case, demonetized with the burden for you to prove why that shouldn’t be the case
This is to support your channel, your passion and last but not least all the effort you‘re putting in your videos.

They shut down my original channel that I received official permission and official clips to show for anime reviews. Fair use is not safe as companies do not care. Becareful you do a great job. But no one is safe from shutdown even when you do things the right way.
