Clarifying the part about X being the only playable character: In an interview with DaymonKushX here on UA-cam, Alysson da Paz stated that the main reason he did not set up to add Zero and Axl was time; on his own words, and didn't want to delay the project for years and years to come: he had a scope and wanted to finish it in 1 year, though he ended up taking 2.5 years (Which is still quite short for what we're used to wait when it's about MMX fangames). 99% of what he intended to add in the game was fortunately added, which leaved him pretty satisfied with the results. He wanted to add Zero and Axl, among other stuff, but it was simply not realistic to have them in the plans as it would stall development for a long time. Again, this is all on an hour-long interview accessible here on UA-cam in Daymon's channel; it is in portuguese though.
Truth be told I'm fine with it. I'm not huge on Axl as a character and we have the Zero games if we ever want just nonstop beam sabers and power blasts.
Nah, I'm fine with Zero not being in it. We already got plenty of games with him as a playable character, plus dude has his own series. It's only right for the main protagonist of his own series to finally get his flowers(X in this case).
It would be swell if one of these fan projects just released their source on Github or something and allow the community to take the next steps. With the general engine for the game down, one could create a level editor for less technically inclined users who could then go on and create their own levels. People with a bit more programming experience could add in different characters like Zero.
- There are no water physics in Rooster stage pipe section... - You don't need A ranks in Optic Sunflower stage to get the items. You can use charged elec to destroy the doors. - You don't need to backtrack for any items. Panda capsule can be gotten with or without Cyclops. Just a well timed air dash can get you over there with no upgrades. - You can dodge Mantis DA by sitting in the middle and dash jumping left/right. Or just use a charged Sunflower to take him out of DA. - You can fight anywhere from 2-8 mavs at once in Gateway. Just use Panda weapon to break the capsule barriers after completing 2.
Many of those I knew about, but the last one? Damn, that's actually very informative, thank you! Gonna try 2 sets of triple fights on my 11th run of the game.
You can even bring a Ride Chaser into Yeti's fight in his level. Just go back to its spawn point and crash it into the doors. Do this twice and ride the third chaser straight into the boss fight.
Guess you can say that this game is an alternate X Series sequel that takes place after X5 ignoring the events of X6 and X7 meaning Zero is still dead, and X never meet Axel as he's still with Red.
This might be the best explanation to the game not having Zero and Axl. This takes the route where the "bad" ending happened, where Zero succumbed to the Sigma Virus and X has to put down Sigma once and for all by his lonesome.
Or x6 and x7 did take place but with the latter he met Sigma once again but didn't meet red at that time but met his 8 Mavericks who only just cause chaos without wanting Axl back since X never met again
9:36 Warning, there is a difference between the fanbase and twitter. I have never seen any take like this, the general reaction was absolutely positive from X8 fans and haters alike.
Always one of my pet peeves whenever a youtuber brings up twitter I could care less about a small handful of Zero and Axl super fans that felt like the creator betrayed them for removing their favorite characters Lost me a second before bringing me back by explaining why he felt like that decision benefitted the game
Not only Twitter, devs of Mega Man X fangames hated X8 Demake and discord users joined Twitter stoking flames. While games take significant dev time-planning, X8 Demake disproved coming fairly timely and well-made. Puts projects like X Corrupted to question how much is enough time - even when monetized monthly.
Yeah watching this video whenever he brought up "The Mega Man Fanbase" I was wonder what fanbase he was talking about, because it's not the one I've been in.
17:20 Just wanna say a fun thing you can do -- SPOILERS AHEAD -- If you were crazy anough to grab all of rhe crystals in one go, congratulations: you now get to fight all of the bosses at the same time, in what i can only describe as "a poor innocent boy gets jumped by 8 british punks armed with a knife each". I can confidently say it was a wonderful idea and peak game design, wish more games would do something like this as an optional suici- i mean challenge
So it's basically like Hero Core's "secret" Reallyjoel's Dad "battle", but just barely, maybe, 'use every tool available to you' possible? Sounds like it would be fun to watch someone else do it 🤣 Cuz I'm sure not gonna try it myself
@@ChaosMaster130Funny thing is That the dev made a achiviment system Doing the secrets, doing a no damage boss game, no armor and that stuff gives achiements like steam, and YES there is a achievement for beating all 8 of the boss at once, the armors are just that busted
Okay, that's ... interesting. I just found a UA-cam video showing the exact challenge. I haven't watched it fully yet, but this seems legit. Welp, time to up my A game!
@@rodriguespepper Official, I think, it's full of funny texts just in the settings alone, like, "double tap to dash" is "this isn't a fighting game ffs", "skippable text" is "I don't like reading", "music volume" is "crank this up", "window size" is "make it beeg" and many others. I think it deserves an English variation too 😂
And AM2R was vastly superior to the real deal and made Nintendo seethe which is always a good thing. If you hate that Zero/Axel aren't playable I understand but its free and you can run it on any toaster so no real reason to not at least give it a try.
From within the Mega Man Fangame Dev community, there’s been talks about the developer being disrespectful to other fangame creators which is another reason some people have decided not to play it
@@Megapig9001Do you mean Dr. 64? Or the people who currently run the am2r launcher and discord? Because some of the latter are A-holes. But i was already playing am2r before the dmca so i have no prejudice the OP is talking about. AM2R and this fangame both have issues which unfortunately will never be changed unless you want to just change it yourself (assuming they make it open source). But they are still decent games.
I love this game so much! If you wanna be a real masochist, you can actually break the glass that blocks the capsules in the boss rush, allowing you to take on all 8 bosses at once
@@TheTickyTickyTickyYeah he can't officially make money off the project so the longer he keeps in production, the more he can make in donations. I honestly don't think it's ever going to come out officially.
I still feel that Axl and Zero's playstyles are a core part of X8's identity but I do get that the developer wanted to make sure X was as fun to play as possible first, I think the other 2 should still be added eventually (like not just rushed out the door but after they've been given the same love and care X got) but I do understand why they weren't and the developer is well within their rights to not want to add the other 2 it's like the paper Mario thousand year door remake being 30 FPS, would it be better at 60, yes but I'm not losing sleep over it, same with this demake, would it be great to have Zero and Axl as well? yes but the game is still perfectly fine with just X
Yeah I think the tag team mechanic not being in there SHOULD NOT be overlooked, but that doesnt mean we can disrespect what this game managed to achieve and the fact it's a lot of fun
@@redwizardmatt well like him or not he was still a major aspect of X8's gameplay due to it making him a distinct character and not just X but worse with a copy shot again the 16 bit version isn't worse off without the other two hunters I just think it would have been nice to have them as well as X
@@rhyperiorhunter7339 It's worse off without Zero. His melee style is just a completely different thing. Making Axel to just creat a *second* ranged style feels pointless. They used to do that by making the next MegaMan game. Again, I'll play the game either way. But it would have been nice. I tend to play X4 as Zero. The game just plays different that way. And the original X8? I mostly played as Zero. Also mostly played as Zero on X7, since I wasn't giving Axel any level ups. Ive spent enough time with his blades that I've come to really appreciate him and how he feels. The Zero games didn't recapture that at all and while good, are completely a different thing. Heck. The Zero games give him a buster gun, and don't give him all the boss street fighter style special moves. Not at all the same experience.
Alysson da Paz said in a conversation he had with a Brazilian UA-camr that he didn't want to add Zero and Axel for the sake of keeping the project simple in scope, so he would actually finish it. He is not a hater of the characters or anything like that.
X8 16-bit is essentially that X9 we never got, at least that how I see it personally, there’s so much to love about the game, in options you can make the sound of your buster charging fade-out so it doesn’t get loud if you enter boss doors while charging, thats one of the best additions, the item and upgrade hunting is very fun, the super bosses are very challenging yet very satisfying to take down when you muscle memory their patterns, in Bamboo Pandamonium’s stage if you can carry the Ride Armor to the Vile fight you can get sweet revenge on him by overpowering him just like he did to you in the very first X game, no official game let you get to fight Vile with a Ride Armor funnily enough.
I feel your rant about people being upset at a lack of Zero and Axl is missing the forest for the trees here. While you may not like X8 that much and vastly prefer this demake, but a lot of people did like the game in part because of Zero and Axl. Obviously the fan dev can make whatever kind of fan game they want, and they get credit for releasing a full game in my lifetime, but fans of X8 are absolutely allowed to be disappointed with the direction the demake chose. As long as disappointed fans aren't harassing the developer there really isn't a problem.
He's kinda right about what he said about the fan base though. Everytime there's a new crossover or promotion or something all people wanna do is whine about not getting a new game. I get that it's been a while but Jesus Christ it gets crazy annoying
Fair point, though it is a bit odd to say you would never play it. That'd be like writing off X1 & 2 for that reason. Zero and Axel not being in it probably is what allowed the game to get finished.
I also slightly take umbrage with them completely removing the shop and rare medals. Maybe it would have been more interesting to try and overhaul these instead of completely removing them and returning to series tradition.
@@jaretco6423 X3 was made by a different team, the team behind the Gameboy games, perhaps that’s why for some it doesn’t feel as good as X1, X2 and X4.
@brandonwilliams6119 Also part of the reason X4 came out as good as it did (specifically visually) is because the other team working on X3, giving Capcom more time to work on X4
There will probably be some talented modders who can make a playable Zero/Axl for this game in the future, but there's still one big issue. The game in it's entirety is built around X and his toolkit, and his toolkit includes several parts of Zero and Axl's movelist. Zero and Axl would also need some completely reworked kits as to not feel redundant, and even then the overall game might not be as smooth for them. X can feel like he's going 200 mph with the optimizations being found, and I just don't see the same case happening for Zero and Axl. I would certainly like for there to be a high quality Zero and Axl experience for this game, but it doesn't seem to be very likely. I would love to be proven wrong on that tho.
So good when someone can limit the scope and deliver it with quality in a reasonable time. I wish JKB stopped remaking parts of his game over and over again. He could've released a whole series of "corrupted" games if he had the discipline.
Apparently using one of the boss weapons allows you to break into more of the boss rush chambers, so in theory if you're a crazy person you can outright _fight all eight Mavericks at the same time_ and best of luck to anyone that tries that one.
I would say it's actually easier to fight the 8 of them at the same time, each boss drops health when defeated and you are hitting most of them at the same time with the laser. When you fight them 2 by 2 then there's more opportunity to mess up and use subtanks
Icarus Armor can help a lot with Giga Impact and the Laser Charge Shot, Hermes could also help with X Drive, but the Spread Shot can be a problem to help you against the 8 ones
13:19 This is why X2’s my favourite X game because of the item game There’s multiple ways to get the items: .Take the easier path .Or take the harder path for no backtracks Wheel gator is a brilliant example of this You can get the light capsule either by air dashing or using wire sponge’s weapon for no backtracks (Or nothing at all!)
I decided to hold out until a full release of this game to play it, and only with the information that the Green Spinner / Blast Launcher could destroy spikes I fumbled my way to a full no backtrack run. The only item I missed on a first pass of the stages was Avalanche Yeti's Sub Tank, which I must admit could have been placed better, but I was able to just go back and find it. The final stages blew me away - Jakob was super fun, Gateway was really subversive (I never knew the music was so good), but Sigma Palace was a slight blemish. Lumine was hard enough to do in one life but now a significantly harder iteration of Sigma precedes him too. As a passionate X8 fan, this game was incredible. My only issues are the length of the final boss gauntlet and Avalanche Yeti's sub tank. The spritework is also extremely impressive - X has more frames, yes, but all the other characters look incredible. Edit: Figured I should say the order. Bamboo Pandamonium Gigabolt Man-O-War Dark Mantis Gravity Antonion Optic Sunflower Avalanche Yeti Earthrock Trilobyte Burn Rooster My preferred armour loadout is Hermes head. Hermes body, Icarus arms, Icarus legs. It truly cleans house with the later parts of the game, what with infinite charged special weapons, a fast charging laser, and the unparalleled air mobility the Icarus legs provide. Edit 2: There was a respawning life before Sigma? Damn.
The only feature I'd love for the developers to add for the 16 bit X8 is a New Game Plus just like how they did for the modded version of Mega Man X3 where they had Zero as a playable character getting to keep all the armor parts and experimenting with them however you like.
I'd like to theorize that this is a ALTERNATIVE TIMELINE where Zero never survived in X5, and Axl just never existed in that point in time in X8, which i assumed Red was going to lean towards to
The new take on the weapons finally made me realise what the devs had in mind for the armours in X8. The full sets were tailored to appeal to different generalised playstyles, with the Icarus Armour being best for those that prefer the buster while the Hermes Armour dominates in the hands of those that utilize all the weapons. This is especially the case now that the weapons don't suck and both the armours borrow the infinite weapon energy gimmick from the Fourth Armour in different ways.
17:20 There's actually a secret way for you to fight more than 2 bosses in there (or even all 8 bosses at once). Once you grab 2 crystals, the capsules all get sealed up... However, if you used Pandamonium's weapon, it will break the glass and you can enter the capsules to grab more crystals. (there's also a secret achievement for beating all 8 bosses in this fight).
This makes me super happy because I was a huge fan of the 16-bit art style. I can't remember much of Mega Man X8 because the entire time I played it I was 14 but also listening to System of A Down's Mezmerize album on repeat . This is my way of playing X8!
I still have no issues with the dev not adding Axl or Zero into the game since X on his own with the alterations were fine enough as is. This fangame is challenging, balanced well enough in various aspects, and actively is my go-to method for playing "X8" in any capacity since the original is just too gimmicky for its own good despite the positives it does have, plus the Secrets it has are amazing and the way the Weapons, Bosses, and the like were changed is all too welcomed. And yeah, ignore the hellscape that is the "criticisms" of the forums, social media sites, etc. The man said what his end goal was-being disappointed is one thing, but actively attacking him because you didn't get Axl or Zero (A character that was pretty much on almost every team not because of his playstyle in X8 thanks to the Item system and the character that Capcom couldn't stop trying to push in favor of the main fucking character who didn't really mesh well with the way X8 wanted you to play) was utterly pathetic.
Let’s be honest here. This might be the best MMX game ever made (besides the story). It’s just really hard to accept that because the first 4 are so iconic. But, if it was released back then, it would be close to the top. Now consider that it’s the only one playable in widescreen in 2024 and all the other QOL changes. Truly a fantastic game that shows how much Capcom could do with this series in coming years. Great work Alyson, really remarkable!
I streamed the Game for my birthday and absolutely adored it, up there as one of my favorite Mega Man Games. One thing I learned through my trial and error with the final boss is that the Leg Parts that don't give you a double jump are actually really useful for bosses thanks to the extra invinsibility frames. Especially for things like Shadow Mantis' desperation move or half of Lumine's final phase.
This is a masterpiece indeed. Game developing should be taken to Brazil. Alysson and Sargeant Mark IV have, in their respective areas, have given us great gaming experiences with their work. Kudos!
Downloaded this immediately and played through the intro stage. It FEELS like the old X games. X controls just right. I am very psyched to fully dive into this. There are a handful of classic MM fan games that are frankly better than the official games, but I’ve never played an X fan game before.
Just beat this game a few days ago, and I have to say that this is one of the best X games I've ever played. It's up there with X1 and X4 for me, and it may beat out X2. This is by far the most impressive Mega Man fangame I've played. Edit: at 18:46, I never realized that was there. I just kept getting game overs and replaying the level over and over until I beat the final boss. My biggest gripe with the game had a solution that I wasn't ever aware of lol.
17:20 you can actually fight all 8 bosses at once by using Bamboo pandamonium weapon to blast the lock chamber capsule to obatain all 8 boss gems at once.
you can also use the ride armour to grab Dr.Light capsule from Booster Forest. Not having to return to it later. also wait till you discover the Desperado achievement in the boss rush stage 👀
I saw this in Sage and remembered Your recommendation plus I watched all your mega man videos. My expierence in sage tells me Fan made stuff will always be a banger and uhh….. welp guess ima mega man fan now. Why did this Go so hard it was soo funnn
Good. Still prefer the original. The biggest crime of this game isn't the lack of Axl and Zero (which added a lot of depth, fun and uniqueness to X8), but how poorly balanced the bosses are (can't possibly react to Rooster's fire attacks (without trial and error), Utonion covering the whole screen, deals more than half your life of damage when you only have 1 character this time, etc)
im pretty positive the bosses were tuned to be a difficult challenge, you can still cut off their crazy combo attacks with their weakness so thats good
This is awesome. The style is my favorite from the Mega Man X series. I have only gotten to play it a little bit, but I all ready am enjoying it more than the original version. I did enjoy the original when it came out, but this is better for me. I get what the original was doing with trying to update it and have more characters to choose from, but I personally would rather play as X than Axle. Zero is great to have, though, because he adds a whole different play style, and he is awesome. Axle, I personally never cared for, but I didn't hate him. So far, this remake is very enjoyable, and I can't wait to play the whole thing a few times.
I’m a big fan of MegaMan X and every year i like to at least play all of them once (x1 to x6 and zero 1 to zero 4, for me that’s the official canon jeje) but now thanks to the developer who created this beauty i added one game to the list, it is a must play for any MegaMan fan, hopefully Capcom ask him to demake X7 but this time properly paid.
I love the orginal and this remake. This remake is prolly one if my favorite fangames ive ever played. The items being useful is great , the level being remade is amazing. I hope someone makes a zero and axl mod. Aside from that great video.
This game looks amazing! I can’t thank Alysson and his team enough for their hard work on this, but hope he reconsiders and does X4, X5, X6 and X7 in 16-bit. Those games could use this treatment. I’m glad it focuses on X like the original games. I have always preferred how the SNES games played. I can’t wait to download this!
"...seriously, it matters that much?" When you're reducing the gameplay options from 3 to 1, with two of those playstyles being ones that plenty prefer playing over X, the reaction should've been predictable, imo. X8 having three fleshed out playable characters is a part of its core identity, so taking that away for a demake is going to (fairly) turn some people off.
Then go cry about it to someone who cares. The game is free and some of y'all will still find something to whine about. Grow up and be grateful that we got something here FREE. wanna play as zero and axl? Then go play the original 😒
@@Spectral_Waves I promise you that you're mad as shit at the wrong person jake LMAO I didn't complain make any complaints myself in my initial post, just explaining the perspective of others who are critical of the Demake. I'm playing it myself and enjoying it a whole bunch for what it is 🙏
@@Spectral_Waves So I'm not allowed to whine about it if I spend my limited time on this Earth playing something I already don't like axing two of the three playable characters of. If I was immortal, then yeah that time would mean nothing. But I'd rather choose to spend it playing something I like. But I guess I'm not allowed to play things I personally like rather than something I dont.
@@UltimaKeyMaster like I said this Game is FREEEEE and was literally made by one person so no, you don't. Don't like it? Don't play it. Also the dev also literally said they aren't adding any other playable characters.
I will say this is the greatest experience of me when playing Mega Man X as a whole. The first 4 games are great but holy cow, never have I so indulged in a Mega Man X as much as this. Great boss fights, great map designs, difficulty spike is awesome, never would you feel the game too hard or too easy. And the gameplay is just another gem. There's just sooooo much to talk about this gem. A beautiful game that is will worth the time you put in it. P/S: but damn, the achievements are quite insane though. No damage some bosses are already hard enough, but no upgrades + no damage? I know u can do it separately but god, Gravity Antonion just broke my dream. 50+ no-upgrade X have lost to that monster.
Maybe because i'm suck at Megaman games nowadays, i choose to watch videos of people playing it. Have to say, MMX8 16Bit is TONS better than the OG. More challenging, more fun, less tedious. Great job for the dev 👍👍
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles review when the two games, The Great Ace Attorney Adventures and The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve are just amazing honestly. Amazing music, amazing characters, and uh amazing everything else, you should rlly give it a try and review it
Got into this channel because of the all inclusive Mega Man X retrospective back in mid-late 2017 and we still going with Mega Man X and the blue guy in general. I’m enjoying every second of this guy talking about Mega Man.
When I first played this game I didn't like it because of the level design and being confused that it existed at all. But upon replay I enjoyed it way more. Being able to use an air dash or double jump after a ground dash is what made me realize this game may be something special. Although there are still some issues (The Sub Tank system should've been like the original X8 or the Zero Games ffs) but seeing how much passion and love the Creator put into it made me enjoy it more
4:05 I don't want to be the 'Um, Actually' guy, but I think that this game being widescreen is not a minor detail design-wise, because almost all Megaman games were in 4:3 screen ratio: OG 1 thru 10, X thru X8, ZX and ZX Advent... even the Zero saga was in a more square screen and then ported to 4:3 (DS). That technical aspect is not in the very core of the franchise, of course, but it's not something I would look over. It heavily influenced the level and boss design of every game we know and love. Think 2D Sonic games for example, the transition to widescreen gave them a lot of real state for better maneuvering in high speeds, and opened the field for different level design ideas. That being said, "porting" a game from full 3D in 4:3 to a pixel-art 2D 16:9 is an astounding feat and everything looks incredible.
Great video J, MM X8 was definitely one I never really felt motivated to go back and play even years after, but boy you definitely sold me on getting the de-remake!
i saw your video... saved it without watching it, downloaded the game then after beating it, i watched your video.. and like everything you said hit home. Its a love letter to the old school fans.. and yes this game was crazy hard it took me many many tries but it was a ride i enjoyed till the end. (ps. i still haven't beaten Red nor Serenade xD)
9:50 yes. I haven’t played as X since X3. Given the choice, I’ll pick zero every time I’m not gonna whine about it, I’m just not gonna play it, die mad I guess. I’m really just interested in a mega man zero game with x visuals. What his Game looks cool tho mad respect.
I am just glad we have another high-quality Mega Man game created by fans that does the franchise justice more than what Capcom has done with Mega Man recently.
You should've seen the grin on my face when I found out you can get the armor in Bamboo Pandamonium's stage with the ride armor and the game just let's you break the boss gates with the armor and the vehicle and you can even fight the mavericks with them This game reminded me why I love the X series all over again
I can give a quick guide to avoid Backtracking on the Demake (might contain some spoilers so watch out) 1 - Booster Forest (Bamboo Pandamonium): This one might be the hardest start on Demake, so try to keep the Ride Armor alive for as long as possible, you can advance with it by punching the doors to go on, you can get Foot Part Icarus and Sub Tank with the Ride Armor, and try to reach Pandamonium with the Ride Armor, it's not too hard to reach, trust me 2 - Dynasty (Gigabolt Man-o-War): - Getting Heart Tank and Buster Part I isn't that hard, to get the Buster parts you need to activate a ramp which is on the bottom button 3 - Central White (Avalanche Yeti): - Heart tank can be picked with Ride Chaser Jump Timing, even without Sunflower's weapon, you can still get Head Parts H 4 - Inferno (Burn Rooster): - Thunder Dancer will help you get the Heart Tank and Foot Part H 5 - Metal Valley (Earthrock Trilobyte): - This one might be the first one if you won't be able to clear Pandamonium stage, if that's the case, the first way to get Body Parts I it's to let the Giant Mechanoild hits the Crystal in front of you, the second one is using Rooster's weapon. Heart Tanks and Sub Tanks aren't hard to get. 6 - Troia Base (Optic Sunflower): - A good tip that i can say is: try to defeat enemies with different shooting levels, with this you can increase your rank without any difficulties (there is still a way to get the item even if you don't get A or S rank, but i won't tell how, and if you know please try to not spoil it). If you fight Cut Man, no worries, you can go back to the room you found him and then fight Sunflower. 7 - Pitch Black (Dark Mantis): - You have many ways to get both Heart Tank and Body Parts H and finally 8 - Primrose (Gravity Antonion): Why he's the last? his boss battle is very caotic, especially in his Overdrive Attack state. Heart tank is hidden but It's not hard to find out, and Head Parts I has many ways to be obtained.
IMO Mega Man X's 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 were designed to have Zero as the main playable character, with X and whoever else as supporting cast. That said, I would totally play this if the creator wanted playing as X to be as fun as playing Zero is in the official games.
After all these long years SOMETHING has finally arrived on our table! This game is just peak in almost any regard and i don't see why an X fan wouldn't play it. Pixel art is outstanding, level design is great, and music slaps really hard! Seeing a new Mega Man X installment just brings me to tears, because i'm a huge fan of those games ❤
Nope, the Ultimate Armour isn’t in the game. I like the game a lot, but the fact it’s lacking things like the Ultimate Armour kinda brings it down for me.
fun fact, in the boss rush at the end, bamboos weapon can break open the boss capsules after you did two of them, so you can do more of them. from 2 up to 8. and yes depending on how many you clear before walking into the fight room, thats how many bosses you fight all at once. so you can fight all 8 of them at once if you're feeling brave!
Alright, we get it, you dislike X8 and don't understand what others like about it (despite you openly asking people and getting answers), as evident even in the jabs thrown at it when it's not even the topic (e.g. MMZ1 review). Here's what *I* don't understand: - The notion that the game is so fundamentally badly designed that "it can't be fixed with a patch". To my knowledge, X8 is the ONLY mainline X game to not get any fan patch/mod, so how can you be so sure when nobody even attempted that? You're telling me the confused/unfocused X5 and the disastrous X6+X7 can be improved significantly with patches, but not X8? I can think of several improvements a simple patch can make, a number of them already made in patches for other games too. Zero and Axl could be allowed to collect armor pieces for X. The ice wall in Central White cod be made destructible with Rooster's weapons as well as Sunflower's (like the X5 patch did with the wall before the capsule in Duff Mcehalen's stage). Troia Base could give you both rare metals when you get a perfect score instead of just one. Alternatively, the conditions could be more lax (like the patch did for Squid Adler's bike section). Some, most, or all rare metals which need a charged crystal wall could be moved to different places which don't need it (like X7's patch did for some heart tanks). Similarly, some of the poorly placed rare metals could be relocated in a way so backtracking is reduced. The super expensive items in the shop could be priced more reasonably. Some weapons could have their damage output buffed. And so on and so forth. I can understand you not liking the game for reasons varying in objectivity and subjectivity. What I don't understand is the inconsistent criteria used for this game specifically.
- Another thing I don't understand is the insistence of SO many people saying things which boil down to "Oh, people only like X8 because it came after the disasters of X6 and X7". Yeah, I'm not saying this absolutely had (emphasis on HAD) nothing to do with it whatsoever, but you guys are giving it WAY more weight than it could have. It's been TWENTY years since the original came out. Now the whole series is accessible at once to everyone with ease, so the "niche appeal" explanation doesn't really work. Who on earth plays and replays these games (in whatever order) and *consistently* thinks "Yeah, X8 sucks, but I like it anyway because the two games right before it which came out 20+ years ago were so bad"? Is it THAT far fetched to imagine them just liking the game for things you don't care for, that the things you dislike about it don't bother them much, or that they like it *despite* issues they agree are negatives?
- Another thing: the notion that the original looked bad, ESPECIALLY in the grand scheme of things and considering Megaman games up to that point. First of all, the low-res texture criticism doesn't apply to the PC version. Not the legacy collection port (though it IS the best looking), but the version released in 2005. But other than that, I fee like I'm going crazy listening to the folks singling out X8 for supposedly having bad visuals. When it was released, this game had the richest animations out of all Megaman games. From the hunters, bosses, common enemies, to the freaking UI and title screen. Even the least busy backgrounds have stuff going on. Just as an example, compare boss death animations in X8 to literally every game prior. It has an actual camera for dynamic angles at several points, primarily boss intros and dialogue. It has dynamic, detailed lighting anywhere you look. And yes, I and many others prefer the character redesigns over the bulky "big foot" designs from before.
This kind of things restore my faith in humanity as passionate fans create wonders out of their pockets while companies keep looking for ways to milk their IP before they expire. Also, I'm glad your public voice made an impact on this project, when I first saw the level design I was fascinated that the backtracking was minimal ✌🏼
I can't be mad about this. I do miss Zero and playing as Axl would be fun, but this is what I've missed about Megaman X. I really hope this game doesnt get ruined it looks amazing and makes me want to try the boss rush
In the panda stage you can actually destroy the gate that leads to vile with the ride armor. Then you use the elevator to bring the mech up and you can get those parts that way. It blew my mind
this reminds me of sonic triple trouble 16 bit it is also inspired by the original sonic triple trouble levels, but it is a completely different game, and it also has 16 bit in the end it is actually very similar
While I really love the original X8, due in no small part to the improvements it made over its pair of abhorrent immediate predecessors, I have to say I'm not the biggest fan of the stage design in the game myself. The demake here does seem to make some really worthwhile improvements though and that alone is worth some praise. While I personally would've loved to see Zero and Axl playable in the demake (especially with a 16 bit makeover for the latter), game dev is no small or easy task so it's plenty understandable that they weren't included. I also really love the 16 bit renditions of X's Armor sets here. Very well done.
Yeah. Serenade is Battle Network 3's post game final boss. I honestly would've gone with Bass .Exe instead since he's the more well known super boss from that series. But I guess they wanted something more original.
10:27 I’ll be honest, wanting to play as Zero and Axl in the remake is pretty fair. But I also never seen how they reacted. So it may actually be problematic. I personally really wish Zero and Axl were here though, ngl.
Great remake but I also love the original. Just like the developer. By the way the only thing that would have made this game even more like the SNES trilogy would have been if the soundtrack was remade 16-bit. It feels slightly off to play a SNES game with a PS2 soundtrack. Just an observation, not a complaint.
Honestly, I would love to try this version. Me, I'm wishing for 16 bit demakes of the other MMX games as well, but that's only a dream. Other than that, great job on the review
Also during the Boss Rush there is a secret where you can break open the portals after you already collected 2 crystals. So you can face as many bosses simultaneously as you like.
Now, imagine somebody remaking one of the first 3 Resident Evil games, in 16 bit, with this much love and care. (Instead of fixed camera, its a top down, RPG style camera angle).
I’ve been seeing people play this game on TikTok. It really seems interesting, and at least now I know how to get it. I’ll download and try it on my Mac sometime.
Clarifying the part about X being the only playable character:
In an interview with DaymonKushX here on UA-cam, Alysson da Paz stated that the main reason he did not set up to add Zero and Axl was time; on his own words, and didn't want to delay the project for years and years to come: he had a scope and wanted to finish it in 1 year, though he ended up taking 2.5 years (Which is still quite short for what we're used to wait when it's about MMX fangames).
I'd like Zero added. Axel? Not so much.
Nah, I'm fine with Zero not being in it. We already got plenty of games with him as a playable character, plus dude has his own series. It's only right for the main protagonist of his own series to finally get his flowers(X in this case).
"Didnt want to delay the project for years and year"
Yeah
Glares at jkb games with MMX corrupted

Gonna try 2 sets of triple fights on my 11th run of the game.
You can even bring a Ride Chaser into Yeti's fight in his level. Just go back to its spawn point and crash it into the doors. Do this twice and ride the third chaser straight into the boss fight.
@@SylphonicAcid you can but it's very silly to do so. Still worth doing at least once
We should all just decide to go with that! And make up something how Mega Man Zero still starts
@@dru7151 Probably based on Kenji Inufane's original plans for Mega Man Zero.
Or x6 and x7 did take place but with the latter he met Sigma once again but didn't meet red at that time but met his 8 Mavericks who only just cause chaos without wanting Axl back since X never met again

this is the Sonic Triple Trouble 16 bit of the MegaMan X community and Im all for it
9:36 Warning, there is a difference between the fanbase and twitter. I have never seen any take like this, the general reaction was absolutely positive from X8 fans and haters alike.

Always one of my pet peeves whenever a youtuber brings up twitter
I could care less about a small handful of Zero and Axl super fans that felt like the creator betrayed them for removing their favorite characters
Lost me a second before bringing me back by explaining why he felt like that decision benefitted the game

I still feel that Axl and Zero's playstyles are a core part of X8's identity but I do get that the developer wanted to make sure X was as fun to play as possible first, I think the other 2 should still be added eventually (like not just rushed out the door but after they've been given the same love and care X got) but I do understand why they weren't and the developer is well within their rights to not want to add the other 2
it's like the paper Mario thousand year door remake being 30 FPS, would it be better at 60, yes but I'm not losing sleep over it, same with this demake, would it be great to have Zero and Axl as well? yes but the game is still perfectly fine with just X
Yeah I think the tag team mechanic not being in there SHOULD NOT be overlooked, but that doesnt mean we can disrespect what this game managed to achieve and the fact it's a lot of fun
Axel is the Jar Jar of MegaMan. Added to give younger audience members (kids) a touchstone. I can do without him.
@@redwizardmatt well like him or not he was still a major aspect of X8's gameplay due to it making him a distinct character and not just X but worse with a copy shot
again the 16 bit version isn't worse off without the other two hunters I just think it would have been nice to have them as well as X

Im almost positive somebody will add them to the game at some point even if the creator doesnt. Give it time
He's kinda right about what he said about the fan base though. Everytime there's a new crossover or promotion or something all people wanna do is whine about not getting a new game. I get that it's been a while but Jesus Christ it gets crazy annoying
The rant was certainly a choice
Fair point, though it is a bit odd to say you would never play it. That'd be like writing off X1 & 2 for that reason. Zero and Axel not being in it probably is what allowed the game to get finished.
I also slightly take umbrage with them completely removing the shop and rare medals. Maybe it would have been more interesting to try and overhaul these instead of completely removing them and returning to series tradition.
This is up there with the first 4 X games, it's that good. Might even be one of the best fan games I've seen.
Not so much of X3 because I found that game pretty boring. But I agree with everything else.
@@jaretco6423 X3 was made by a different team, the team behind the Gameboy games, perhaps that’s why for some it doesn’t feel as good as X1, X2 and X4.

They are already emerging! 👀
@@TwinbeeMintbut are they good is the point
So good when someone can limit the scope and deliver it with quality in a reasonable time. I wish JKB stopped remaking parts of his game over and over again. He could've released a whole series of "corrupted" games if he had the discipline.
He's like the GRRM of MMX-fanfiction
Yeah, I'm honestly starting to think they're milking it over there at this point.
Apparently using one of the boss weapons allows you to break into more of the boss rush chambers, so in theory if you're a crazy person you can outright _fight all eight Mavericks at the same time_ and best of luck to anyone that tries that one.
Its not that hard, you sit there and laser the whole time
@@MrSmbaiThat's definitely the speedrun strat
@@chewymew it is indeed
I would say it's actually easier to fight the 8 of them at the same time, each boss drops health when defeated and you are hitting most of them at the same time with the laser.
When you fight them 2 by 2 then there's more opportunity to mess up and use subtanks
Icarus Armor can help a lot with Giga Impact and the Laser Charge Shot, Hermes could also help with X Drive, but the Spread Shot can be a problem to help you against the 8 ones
The best thing about this fan game is see his creator being praised and appreciate for a pasionate work
13:19 This is why X2’s my favourite X game because of the item game
There’s multiple ways to get the items:
.Take the easier path
.Or take the harder path for no backtracks
Wheel gator is a brilliant example of this
You can get the light capsule either by air dashing or using wire sponge’s weapon for no backtracks
(Or nothing at all!)
Bamboo Pandamonium
Gigabolt Man-O-War
Dark Mantis
Gravity Antonion
Optic Sunflower
Avalanche Yeti
Earthrock Trilobyte
Burn Rooster
My preferred armour loadout is Hermes head.
It's already a 10/10 because of the fact that he got rid of the stupid spike room in Primrose in favor of a fight with Vile.
It is clear that the developer really studied the good parts of Megaman design. It's definitely amazing.
I am a little disappointed we didn’t get zero as a playable character but i still loved this demake definitely the item game
They be prob making an axl n zero mod
If Capcom was smart, they would embrace this.

Love you bro, hope you’re having a good day
This is a masterpiece indeed.

Now THAT is a fair point.
It looks like you didn't grow up during megaman -mmx to see its decline

"...seriously, it matters that much?"
When you're reducing the gameplay options from 3 to 1, with two of those playstyles being ones that plenty prefer playing over X, the reaction should've been predictable, imo. X8 having three fleshed out playable characters is a part of its core identity, so taking that away for a demake is going to (fairly) turn some people off.

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles review when
the two games, The Great Ace Attorney Adventures and The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve are just amazing honestly. Amazing music, amazing characters, and uh amazing everything else, you should rlly give it a try and review it
J’s reviews: i’m confident anything could run this game also J’s reviews: sadly the game does not work on the SNES
I just tried this game the other day and OH MY GOSH. It jumped right up to my 3rd favorite X game.
This looks like the best fan game ever made.
Got into this channel because of the all inclusive Mega Man X retrospective back in mid-late 2017 and we still going with Mega Man X and the blue guy in general. I’m enjoying every second of this guy talking about Mega Man.
I can't help but feel like Capcom should hire this guy, this game is so nearly perfect...
I wish they included some of the story elements more but overall a VERY solid remake.
Can't wait for Corrupted to launch, one day...
9:50 yes. I haven’t played as X since X3. Given the choice, I’ll pick zero every time I’m not gonna whine about it, I’m just not gonna play it, die mad I guess. I’m really just interested in a mega man zero game with x visuals. What his Game looks cool tho mad respect.
You can fight as many bosses at once in the boss rush. Not just 2. You can fight all 8 at once!
I am just glad we have another high-quality Mega Man game created by fans that does the franchise justice more than what Capcom has done with Mega Man recently.
You should've seen the grin on my face when I found out you can get the armor in Bamboo Pandamonium's stage with the ride armor and the game just let's you break the boss gates with the armor and the vehicle and you can even fight the mavericks with them
This game reminded me why I love the X series all over again
I can give a quick guide to avoid Backtracking on the Demake (might contain some spoilers so watch out)
1 - Booster Forest (Bamboo Pandamonium): This one might be the hardest start on Demake, so try to keep the Ride Armor alive for as long as possible, you can advance with it by punching the doors to go on, you can get Foot Part Icarus and Sub Tank with the Ride Armor, and try to reach Pandamonium with the Ride Armor, it's not too hard to reach, trust me
2 - Dynasty (Gigabolt Man-o-War): - Getting Heart Tank and Buster Part I isn't that hard, to get the Buster parts you need to activate a ramp which is on the bottom button
3 - Central White (Avalanche Yeti): - Heart tank can be picked with Ride Chaser Jump Timing, even without Sunflower's weapon, you can still get Head Parts H
4 - Inferno (Burn Rooster): - Thunder Dancer will help you get the Heart Tank and Foot Part H
5 - Metal Valley (Earthrock Trilobyte): - This one might be the first one if you won't be able to clear Pandamonium stage, if that's the case, the first way to get Body Parts I it's to let the Giant Mechanoild hits the Crystal in front of you, the second one is using Rooster's weapon.
7 - Pitch Black (Dark Mantis): - You have many ways to get both Heart Tank and Body Parts H
and finally
8 - Primrose (Gravity Antonion): Why he's the last? his boss battle is very caotic, especially in his Overdrive Attack state.
Heart tank is hidden but It's not hard to find out, and Head Parts I has many ways to be obtained.
vai tocar na grama >:3
8:32 Is that sky backround from the Kefka fight in Final Fantasy 6?
IMO Mega Man X's 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 were designed to have Zero as the main playable character, with X and whoever else as supporting cast. That said, I would totally play this if the creator wanted playing as X to be as fun as playing Zero is in the official games.
if zero gets added, they need to fix the frame delay on jump attack off walls or zero would be a sitting duck on walls, even worse than x already is
10:26 As a Sonic fan, I will not accept losing the 1st place reward for having the whiniest fanbase, to you Megaman kids. XD
God bless Brazilian developers 🇧🇷
I know this might be a really obvious question, but I’m gonna ask anyways can you play with a pro controller?
I absolutely cannot wait to try this out! Is the Ultimate Armor in the game? I just love the X8 Ultimate Armor color scheme.
Great review, J!
Nope, the Ultimate Armour isn’t in the game. I like the game a lot, but the fact it’s lacking things like the Ultimate Armour kinda brings it down for me.
Unfortunaly no, but i don't doubt people will add it
Thank you for the video and providing a link to this. Looks amazing and as a fan of the 16 bit X titles, this is something special.
I will say it again
This is what a Brazilian Mega Man Fan can do for the Community
o jkb não faz nada
fun fact, in the boss rush at the end, bamboos weapon can break open the boss capsules after you did two of them, so you can do more of them. from 2 up to 8. and yes depending on how many you clear before walking into the fight room, thats how many bosses you fight all at once. so you can fight all 8 of them at once if you're feeling brave!
This fanbase has the most wild games I swear. Friggin love it.
15:52 X7 and Serenade exe ! Yay for continuity
Alright, we get it, you dislike X8 and don't understand what others like about it (despite you openly asking people and getting answers), as evident even in the jabs thrown at it when it's not even the topic (e.g. MMZ1 review). Here's what *I* don't understand:
- The notion that the game is so fundamentally badly designed that "it can't be fixed with a patch".
I didn't like the 3d version of megaman x7 and 8. So to the creator of this thank you very much.

I’ll be honest, wanting to play as Zero and Axl in the remake is pretty fair.
The fact i can play a new megaman x game like this for free will always blow my mind.
Thank you megaman fans!!
I just downloaded the game and I got that first e tank you showed first try just using an air dash. This game feels so smooth 😆
I’ve been seeing people play this game on TikTok. It really seems interesting, and at least now I know how to get it. I’ll download and try it on my Mac sometime.
