That commission one is not remotely wrong One of the worst for me was about a year and a half. She got it done but man it was a chore to get done. But she was able to get other pieces done between then I get things can happen but just say ya forgot or dont want to. Easy as that
Oh yeah, as an artist who takes a while with commissions, but still posts other shit in the meanwhile (Criminal, IK) I think it's best to just be fully honest with clients, and AT LEAST keep them posted a few times a month. If anything actually wrong happens, tell them, and if motivation's an issue, clients won't kill em. It sucks that we can be super slow like that sometimes, but communication can at least soften the blow.

From the viewpoint of a customer - I personally don't mind longer waiting times, especially on high quality art, IF the artist stays in touch and gives regular updates. Things can always happen, artists are also just people with lives and struggles. But at least be open and transparent about it and keep your customers informed. That generally is seen as positive and makes waiting times more acceptable.
Sad thing is a lot of cops _do_ know the law, they just dont care, and in many places police are allowed to lie and if you accept the lie it's the same as consenting to whatever they're doing. Like if they want to search your house without a warrant they can lie and say they dont need one and if you let them in they can then toss the place.
