Went to my local Toyota dealer today and sat in one >> (I use to own a previous gen ‘17 BRZ, currently driving a 718) -The seat is still spot on, one of the most comfortable driver seats available in any car. (Yes, it’s better than my 718 seat) -I noticed the bulge is gone from the dashboard which is great, which makes the dashboard lower now, making the whole car feel lower and improving visibility. -No dealer markup and maintenance will be cheap and reliability high. I was unable to order a manual in Neptune Blue. The dealer is not accepting orders at this time and 99% of the GR86’s that come in are automatics. I gave the salesman all my info and told him to call me when a car with my specs gets allocated. I may have to wait a while, but eventually, I’ll get the car I want. This will be my 6th Toyota/Lexus vehicle & can’t wait to get another in the garage. -love the new infotainment system, looks, performs & feels so much better now.
I luckily was able to order a premium with a manual trans in neptune blue. I had to put down a $1000 deposit for it though. Looks like I will also be waiting a long while.
I just sold my 718 to get one of these. The GR86 has more to offer, believe it or not. Here’s the basics of what I’ve learned > The $60k 718 didn’t have Apple CarPlay, alcantara, LED lights, Dual Zone Climate Control and a few other things that this car comes with standard. Sure, you can add all those things to the 718, but the price will creep up near $70-80k. Yes, the 718 had 300hp vs the 228hp in the GR86, but the 718 was also 300lbs heavier and that extra hp is not a huge difference and 0-60 in the 718 is only 3/4 of a second faster. The suspension in the GR86 also beats the base suspension in the 718. The seats are nicer in the GR86 as well. Don’t forget about the maintenance too. A oil change for the Porsche will run you $400, while the GR86 only costs $70, not to mention all the cheap mods you can get for the GR86. You have to sell your soul in order to pay for Porsche mods. Basically, I’ll be buying a set of larger wheels/tires, dropping in some KW coilovers and I’ll have a great handling sports car for half the cost of a Cayman. Why am I saying all of this? Because, I’ve owned 3 Caymans (987, 981 and 718) and also driven the both generations of the 86 & it’s the truth, in my opinion.
I'm very proud of you for your channel. Great POV video. You've really done your part in saving the manuals and portraying this car's purpose. Excellent job of putting me the viewer in the seat for a drive, getting a sense of acceleration and suspension, and making the vehicle desirable.
@@MilesPerHr I have a deposit down for one, but I'm torn between the manual or automatic. I'm not a race car driver, and I'm going to be using for a daily driver. When you fold the passenger seat forward, does it still slide back by itself or does it lock in place like the driver seat? This been one of my issues but can never find any review of people testing it out of the new 2022. Just a random thing that bothers every now and then as it can get a little annoying once a while.
The passenger seat will automatically slide forward when you pull the seat back up. The driver seat will not slide forward when you pull the seat back up, you have to pull the slide lever on the bottom front of the seat. This is because the designers didn’t want you to lose the seats distance position if you’re just placing or retrieving items from the rear seat area.
@@DriverGuy23 Thanks a lot. I definitely understand the driver seat but for my 2014, the passenger seat would not stay forward or in the same spot; it would slide back which some times made it difficult in putting stuff in the back seats some times.

My only complaint is that it should be a hatchback, just to add some utility compared to the Miata. Tesla is literally not the future if the cars are built to die in just 8 years.
I think I would still take a used 987 base boxster/cayman for similar or less money. Can't beat a bargain flat 6 manual, hydraulic power steering mid engine sports car.
I wish it had a taller overdrive gear, I never shift into 6th gear in normal driving, but 3k rpm at 75mph in sixth is a bit much for a modern sports car, that's the same as the miata but this car has more power and displacement.
