    I grew up with Griffin as my neighbor and occasionally still see him around town. It didn’t really get across in this interview but he remembers so much about a person it’s awesome. Last time I saw him he was asking me if I still had the same black belt with a gold buckle that I wore to church one day back when we were like 13, and requested I get a new one because he liked it haha
    It’s so cool that you made this video to spotlight him and Rachel! Thank you!

      i figured this! autistic people tend to have specific interests/hobbies that we are most advanced in. answering random questions that were not prepared with answers ahead of time would be tricky for someone with low support needs, let alone high support needs. of course every person with autism is different

      The reality is most women aren’t going to want a man to ask consent every single time for a kiss. Especially if they are already in a committed relationship/married.
      Griffin is doing what feels right to him and there is nothing wrong in that. Plus his wife love him for him
      But most women would not want that let’s be real.

    • @tezzanoia
      @tezzanoia 12 днів тому

      @@yvettesilva9476 nobody said anything about asking for permission before every kiss, even in a committed relationship. They were talking about how Griffin asked for permission before kissing her for the first time - and that very much is something we all should be doing, because usually that's happening with someone we just don't know incredibly deeply yet, so we may not be able to read them as well as people in a year long relationship or even a marriage. The longer a relationship lasts, the partners will start to kinda develop their non-verbal cues and ways of giving or revoking consent for things like that, so the need to outright ask usually dissipates over time

      I know, this has got to be my favorite video from Chris because I feel like I can learn the most from it. I actually feel like I relate to Griffin more, but wish I was more like Rachel because she is more mature than I was her age. Women should mature differently than men. I was just very “left-brained”. Thanks to Chris, Griffin and Rachel for sharing their story to the world. Love is enough when it is mutual; they work towards being what the other needs within their respective boundaries and abilities. There is a mutuality between them despite their differences. This is a sacrifice of themselves for something greater that they share between them. That is love.

      She is very thoughtful! Just so you know, there’s no such thing as “more advanced” autism. In this case, Griffin would be described as having higher support needs.
      Because Rachel has less support needs when it comes to communicating (doesn’t need as much prompting or help explaining herself), that doesn’t mean she doesn’t need a lot of help with other things or doesn’t have serious issues that impact her life in the same way Griffin appears to.
      Autism is described as a spectrum, which you could think of as different colors on the spectrum of light. Someone with “purple” autism is not going to be “more advanced” as someone with “green” autism, for example. It impacts every single person differently and varies in terms of support needs.

    They are so wholesome. I am auDHD and it’s always so nice to see other autistic people finding love. My friend/crush is also autistic lower-functioning/higher support than me(I don’t like to describe it that way, but I don’t know how to better describe it), and our interactions are also pretty similar to this. It can be hard to interact with an autistic person because of the loss of attention. We’re currently both teenagers (17&18). But this video gives me hope that maybe I could have a great relationship as an autistic person with another autistic person, even if they are higher support than me. It’s nice to see people with disabilities getting married and living life because sadly a lot of people with disabilities get discriminated against and can’t find people who love them like that.

    I have ADHD and my late boyfriend had a traumatic brain injury. He was four years younger than me and we clicked so well. I'm usually drawn to people younger than me. My boyfriend and I had pretty much the same maturity level. He loved the heck out of me and always treated me with respect. He told me he loved me every single day, multiple times. He was never annoyed if I got whiny. I'd apologize to him and he'd say "you weren't whining, you were voicing your discomfort." He praised me every day and loved me unconditionally. I treated him and loved him the same.

      I'd say in some aspects, yes and in some no. Our lives are pretty "normal" in a lot of ways. They accommodate my autism beautifully, but we've pretty much like your average Joes, just with more sensory blocking headphones and food aversions, haha. Thank you for the question! @@CaptchaNeon

    This video made me so happy to see how supportive their parents are and how much they love each other. I'm autistic and sometimes I feel like I will never find someone who is my person, but this helped me feel like I can have hope that I can still meet someone who loves me and supports me like they do!

    I have been teaching classes for people with autism for over 15 years. Often I have wondered how and what my students would be doing in their lives after they graduated. The videos by SBSK are so beautiful. Watching people have nice lives together brings tears to my eyes. Beautiful people make the world a beautiful place! Thank you SBSK for your videos.

      I’m honestly curious about what the views are around disabilities in Japan.

    • @ShikisaiMaki
      @ShikisaiMaki 11 місяців тому +24

      @@luku22 I'm autistic, have ADHD, am severely chronically ill, and I used to live in Japan and I unfortunately felt rejected and misunderstood by a lot of people, especially older folks. "Hit the nail that sticks out" is a common saying in Japanese. It gives you an idea of the mentality.
      Sadly, Japan has a history of hiding people with disabilities and treating them differently (sometimes mistreating them too), but it has gotten a little bit better in recent years. However, I'd say that when it comes to mental health, disabilities and any marginalized identities, Japan is years, even decades behind North America.
      Also, Japanese people don't usually say what they think to your face (even when you ask them to be honest) so, it can be really difficult for autistic people to figure out what people want and mean. (Even neurotypical folks struggle with it!) You constantly have to read between the lines. It's also considered rude to ask a lot of questions and question the rules which is something I do a lot because I need to understand the logic behind everything and it was very frustrating for me to not be able to get answers and being perceived as rebellious and rude for asking.
