You might want to pin this: I bought FMS AND Treal metal trans gears thinking I can use the Treal gears and pair them to the metal shifting fork and shifting hub. Here’s what I found out the hard way. The Treal metal gears don’t come with the metal shifting fork and hub because they are made to mate with the stock plastic shift hub. The Treal gears and OEM plastic hub both have 3 splines to lock the axle gears.
The new FMS metal axle gear and shift hub has 4 splines. So you can’t mix and match Treal gears with the FMS metal shifting hub! They won’t interlock and the wheels won’t turn.
I was able to use the other Treal gears I already had in place, but had to use the FMS gears with the FMS shifting fork and hub.
I was about to do the same thing thanks for the heads up. ☺️. It's odd that teal don't provide a shifting fork especially for the price🤔
@@duncanread4442 Yeah. I think people with the most success just got the Treal gears and left the shifting fork stock. I don’t think it get’s stressed like the gears do. Since I did my mix and match of the 2 gears sets, my low gear has been slipping. I have yet to pull it apart. I’m probably going to go all Treal and put the stock fork back in. Why FMS couldn’t make metal gears fit perfectly in their own trucks, I don’t know.
This is the only channel needed for the 1/24 world. You put it out and all the rest just follow your lead. But you do it best.

Love your Channel. Your the best for me and FCX24. PLEASE give a short explaination why the small plastic part covering the end of the speed shift shaft on the transmission is so important. 11:30 timestamp
It’s sort of a guide for the shifter. I installed mine without it once and it wouldn’t shift correctly. Took me a bit to figure out why and this piece was the reason. You could probably make one fairly easy with a piece of plastic.
Brother I’m brand new to the rc hobby but a bit of a gear head. I like my power sports and work on my own machines and watching you work and upgrading motors and trannies just makes me more drawn into this great hobby.

Yep! I actually just got mine in today and they do for sure have the metal fork and shift plate. I have covid atm so I didn’t feel like shooting the vid over to show them in the video as well but they look solid!

They are better because comes with the metal shifting fork and shift plate, I have the Treal Gears just got my FMS transmission gears, also have a purple Treal aluminum trans mission casing, just home from work watching now

Thanks for the video. I already put two sets of Treal gears in my 2 rigs and now waiting for a set of FMS gears just in case. If I easily stripped plastic transmissions twice, with this treal sets and the metal diffs I haven't had any issue yet, even driving pretty heavy rigs with lots of brass and detailed bodies...

Still waiting on my Max smasher, but I will have a great transmission for it, just got my battery clips to hold battery in I have five sets of them now one for my grim reaper and two for my max smasher for when I do get them
I just finally got to run my smasher today after installing the metal gears. Something isn't right with it. 1st and 2nd seem to have a "slip" to them if I go easy on the throttle all is well, but if I stab it it slips and makes bad noises (lol) from inside the transmission. And advice? I took them out and put the stock plastics back in and all is good. I'm stumped as to what could be wrong with it....
Same issue here many people are having the same issue or sucks because the gears are basically useless.

@@CorneliusMaximus69 I ended up bending a little more angle into the shift linkage where it goes into the shift servo horn. Been working great ever since other than my center rear driveshaft blew up. It was down about a week waiting on the treal driveshafts

The FMS metal gears are good, but I do notice a weight difference when driving. The truck has trouble doing backflips now, and nose rolls if you are full throttle and just let off. I now have two smashers, my new one is getting a high speed motor and oil in the shocks. Will replace gears if they break, but they hadn't in my first truck after months with the speed motor and oil in shocks(only upgrades needed imo) I have been using a bigger battery in the smasher since day one. Your videos are the best for 24th scale, I've watched them all for my scx24s and smashers. Keep up the great work!!

The fork,the fork every one is worried about the fork it's the pawl that takes hell if it gets wore like a ramp that little shift linkage rod isn't gonna hold it in gear this is caused from shifting it under load and my set from fms was to wide for the trans case the spur and next 3 gears needed machined off to fit in the housing and turn freely with the case bolted together leave the motor off and start at the bottom add a gear and spin add a gear and spin and so on hope this helps some one out 👍

Nice . I was wondering about getting trans gears . I have them coming from FMS and other stuff they offer for smasher , links and all that . I wasn't sure i would need them but i see now probably a must . The blue one i want to do furitek in i thinl and maybe one of those chassis you showed . They look cool ...! What would you recommend for motor and esc ?

Treal released aluminum, and brass extended links with drive shaft, brass hub spacers, and aluminum stock servo horns.
I think everyone i know in the fcx game ordered that servo horn asap lol
@@Thepreppersbunkeroutdoors it's what that should have released first vs the other one.
@@sonorangaming449 the other servo horn wasnt even "released" it was an existing servo horn that they just put in the fcx section. It was pretty shady tbh
I noticed in your videos that you mention the fcx comes with a plastic chassis. I did find no brand metal chassis's for the fcx on eBay. They look identical to the original chassis as well. Was wondering if you could take a look into them? No worries if you can't. Also does a scx24 wrangler body fit on the fcx?
Yeah, it's too bad treal didn't include the fork and clutch disk. But gears run very smooth and quiet.
After you put the metal shift fork and what not in, did you have any issues with the Trannsmission not wanting to run in high? Like it tries to shift but it won't mesh in fully
I'm getting grinding in low gear only. This looks like the solution. I wonder if the new transmissions will have the metal gears like the new axles do. I told you the price of these parts would soon double and it seems they have.
Yeah it really stinks that they’ve gone up so much. The low price was a lot of the reason these axles and stuff were such a good choice. Hopefully the truck prices don’t skyrocket also.

So I installed my new metal gear set today from FMS. Let me tell you I’ve had nothing but problems with them they are installed correctly but will not shift from high to low gear correctly anymore. I’ve tried to make adjustments to the linkage arm and servo mount but still no luck it’s like something isn’t meshing correctly on the inside. This is a bummer I see a lot of others dealing with this same issue. Any tips or ideas? I’m about to just ditch them for the plastic.
Have you tried to install the FMS gears since this video? Mine did not work, the gears would not allow me to close the case without binding.
I have metal gears and the transmission gears are still plastic and I’m getting a clicking noise. Can you help me out?
Just fitting the fms metal gears and I had to add a washer to the shafts with the selector gears on (the one you attach the driveshafts to)to stop it jumping out of low range,not great for genuine parts.

Did this work and stay working? I just installed my metal transmission gears and Low slips quite a bit and cant go back to the plastic unfortunatly because the plastic shift fork broke upon tear down.

@Nogginjim thank you for posting this comment! I installed a 3MM X .35MM shim on the output shaft today and it fixed my issue. Kind of crazy that you have to shim your transmission if you upgrade to the manufacturer's metal gears!
No problem, funny thing is I fitted another set in a different truck and didn't need to shim them.
I hear the treal gears are better than the FMS ones (people having issues with the FMS gears grinding and having to modify them a bit). Thinking of picking up both and just using the shift fork and link that come in the metal FMS kit along with the treal gears. Opinions?

Does the max smasher come with metal center difs? Or do we need to order them from the website as well? Love what you do. Keep up the great job!
It comes assembled with metal gears, but includes plastic gears if you want to lock the diffs.
@@willyjimmy8881 thanks for the info, I knew the portal axles were metal, I just wasn’t sure about the difs, I’m glad to hear they actually do provide the plastic straight axles in the box in case people want to switch out the difs. Thanks man.
Man I'm having a hell of time getting the fms metal gears to lock in they keep popping out I've trimmed the heck out of shift servo.

I’ve heard a lot of people say they’ve had issues with the fms gears. I’ve heard some say they shimmed them but I haven’t actually installed any myself.

I couldn't find the video where you discuss the 1mill in the smasher diffs. Do you have a link?
You can actually get these,tear off a small piece and fill the diff with it. It’ll almost completely lock it without locking it. It’s what I use in most of my diffs. Even used them in our losi lmts and it worked great!

@2fmrc I actually use plugs in all my bashers. I'm really having issues with my Smasher not doing a standing wheelie with Furitek Mini Godzilla and lizard pro on 2s. Stock transmission. Do you feel I should be able to?

Metal transmission case? I don’t normally run metal anywhere it’s not really needed. Just extra weight.

Anyone just putting an scx style box in the Max smasher who needs low?
Or you can just lock out low with a small e clip and remove the servo. Works well

For those wondering the metal gear set from FMS will not work! Save your money until a correction is made to the product or a solution is offered from FMS to make there gear sets work.
My stock gears for stripped on the virgin outdoor run within 2 minutes. Sticky tires caught some grass blades and bound for about 1 second. Trash
You tell them Matt! If one of the companies were smart they would ask you how much $ it would take to get you to quit your job and work with them haha
