FMS is really killing it with these mini trucks, I'm really glad to see that the Max Smasher is going to come with metal gear differentials. If you want to put oil in the Max Smasher diffs you could maybe use some gasket maker RTV.
Wanted to mention I put 1 Million weight diff fluid in my FMS metal open diffs and there is just a slight slippage, but its essentially locked. The little slippage actually makes it crawl better! Give it a try.
I actually just did a truck with 1 million last wknd. Still got some grinding going on somewhere that I haven’t found yet. I think I know the issue but I gotta pull everything back apart to find out. Been sick the last few days so I haven’t got anything done lol. The 1 million seems like a good way to go though for sure!
Just pack the differential with silly putty & it will lock the differential without any harm. And if you want to revert it back, just take out the silly putty. I used to do it to the center differential in my OFNA - 1/8 scale Ultra LX Nitro Truggy.
Great!! I've ordered 4 diffs for my 2 fcx24, as they already have the metal transmission gears, and the weakest point now is the plastic diff... With this we would have the full driveline in bullet proof mode!!
It was offered by fairrc as a mod. Had to buy the truck itself to get that body. I don’t think they ever sell their mod bodies by themselves unfortunately. Here’s their mod page if interested. shrsl.com/46cko
I recently got the k5 blazer, i have shimmed the stock diff to get rid of the slop in the pinion. I am wondering if its worth getting these metal diffs. Have you experienced the plastic ones stripping?
Awesome Matt appreciate you sharing, I’m waiting on a set of steel gears and I do believe they are with aluminum spool oh so they will be locked. I was On the website for these gears and saw these other ones so I went with them can’t wait to get
Super new to all of this so sorry for the dumb question lol. Wondering if the Treal spool locker will be basically like stock (locking diff for the FCX18), but metal obviously instead of the stock plastic gears. Looking to do this mod to my FCX18.
Some silicone ear plugs in the diff work well for that. It locks them until they are in a pretty tight bind and then they’ll slip. Keeps from breaking stuff but as it wears in it’ll slip more and more. I usually end up locking with jbweld or something lol
Could I replace the max smasher axles with the power wagon axles to get full lock? Curious if the only difference between the 2 is open diff vs full lock?
Yes. All of them I’ve had are crunchy. I just use the metal open diff and lock it up with some silicone ear plugs. Works great! Haven’t had any issues with those.
@@2fmrc that’s what I’m doing, I locked up the open diff and the ring/pinion mesh is terrible. I’m assuming it’s operator error 😂 BUT can’t figure out where the problem is.
Hmmm yeah maybe it could use a shim? I haven’t really had to bother with anything on the open diffs. The only issue I’ve had with them is the screw that holds the pinion gear will come loose after a bit if you don’t loctite it. Had it happen on a couple pretty quick so now I loctite them.
@@2fmrc thanks for the reply. I’ll keep fiddling to try and figure it out. I know you’ve been rocking these diffs a lot so I thought I’d reach out. Thanks!
Loving these videos, I'm really learning a lot about crawlers. Would you lock both diffs or just the front? If you do lock, is there any issue running in high gear? Also can you recommend a basic tool kit/tool list that's needed to carry out the majority of upgrades on the FCX24? I'm in the UK, so we don't have access to some of the big retailers you guys can have.
Really appreciate it! I prefer locking both diffs for crawling. Not too big of a deal running in high for crawling but if just bashing with something like the smasher I’d leave them open. The Injora tool kit is a really good set for the fcx24s. Not sure how hard they are to get in the UK but I use them a lot. amzn.to/3PgQS8q
Dude, honest to GWAR, just use silly putty or poster tack in your open diffs if you are short on cash. Make sure your driveshafts and drive train is metal upgraded before locking anything though. Also, if you're just running a FMS SMASHER V2, I wouldn't bother locking the front at all. Leave it open, at least a bit to get better tight steering. If both diffs are fully locked, and you're racing, you most likely will get smoked... Lol but for real, I used actual silly putty in my rear diffs of my racing SMT10 Mr. YUCK, And won both that seasons point racing championship and freestyle by a Longshot. I was however in the ProMod division.
... Wait. So I stripped down a SCX24 and put in an 8000kv Godzilla, 15 tooth pinion, and 2/12 worm gears, but still on SCX24 axles. It is _devouring_ front drives. CVDs and dog bones both. But I'm bashing it around like a monster truck. So switching axles would solve most of my issues?
I hate Scx24 axles after running the fcx axles. Haven’t broke a single cvd yet on them. Now we have metal portal gears and a metal diff for them. Game over!
@@2fmrc and the diff is the nail in the coffin, saving axle bits when slamming a monster around Can I still use all these aluminium links and driveshafts, swapping over to FCX gear? Or the Mofo AFIBs for doubled shocks?
My guy, we went down the same rabbit hole, that 8000kv motor with worm gears made me quit RC for a. Long while, I’m finally making a new build with fms axles 🔥
Haven’t got those yet. Stripped the stock plastic and had these sitting. Waiting on that slow boat from China to bring the spools. They are aliexpress also. Probably break before the stock plastic 😆

Awesome video as always. It’s cooling down outside so it’s time to break out the 24’s again.
Aww man, wish I saw these when I bought mine. Tearing it down now for a full treal upgrade
Very great explained, especially the open diff issue👍
Good lookin out Matt . Glad to see you still growing
Really appreciate it!
Hi do you have an install video with the treal locked spools?
Udder Butter from CowRC is the best grease! I love it and use it for all my builds!
I almost got some awhile back but I’ve just been using this for so long I figured may as well use it up 😆
The 26th of October? Those chrome rims are sweet.
I am rigid in anticipation.
Mack’s ear plugs work great for locking up diffs. Thanks.
Is it recommended to do this on the furitek cayman ?
Furitek motor are tanks bro🔥
I love the truck body. Could you please tell me where I can get the body and decals???

Can't wait to see what that beast is in the corner

I can't afford all these mods darn it haha. Love the content flow, you're a machine.
I’m trying! Can’t keep up!

I missed the "D" shape, time to fix that. Thank man!

Dude same here! I've bought and installed these metal ones but don't know how to lock it
So it's like the trx4 locker.......I'ma have to hit you up on this
Like that cute truck 👏🥰
What MT wheels and tires are those
Max Smasher 😉
do we have another caymen coming
Mayyyyybe!
My guess would be furitek listened or Matt just modded his and it's an extended rear axle caymen.
so this truck is based on the fcx24?
Yes! Completely stock FCX24
Max smasher's shoes ? 🤔
I put the meus locked differential into my Fms straight away
Could I make an lsd by semi locking the diff?

@@2fmrc good to know, thanks a lot
Not sure why I can’t just get to set them right… I’m ok with open diff as well but it’s just not holding properly

How did you get an Optimus Prime body? How can I get one?
That's a good way to show the truck you're not supposed to show yet. Lol
I like that body as well.
Not sure what you mean 😉
I mean that's a sweet looking semi. kind of reminds me of optimus prime.
Have you had any metal diffs that are super rough? It seems like the ring and pinion are super Grindy

They are real or should be. Just usually takes forever to get anything from aliexpress
