Randall Cunningham Eagles Highlights - Ultimate Weapon

- Decades before Lamar Jackson was suiting up for the Ravens, there was an electrifying QB in Philadelphia who was pushing the boundaries of what a running signal-caller could do.

I’m not understanding why the NFL don’t recognize/talk about him more. From what I keep hearing he was a legend in his era.
He was great. Buddy Ryan wasn't much of a coach on offense. He basically gave Randall the ball and said figure it out. He didn't learn how to play from center until he got to Minnesota. A pure highlight film MVP in 1990. Was Lamar Jackson and Michael Vick. Had a cannon for arm. Could throw 70 yards with ease.
He played in an are where there was so much more to talk about is the issue…his era was run by the 9ers and Cowboys nothing else really mattered around then lol
He was a great player, Buddy Ryan as much as he was loved he hurt Cunningham. Randall said Buddy gave a few plays and Randell called the rest of the game. If we had a good offensive-minded coach we would have won many Super Bowls maybe with Cunningham. We had the weapons in them years.
He was!!! He was the purest pocket passing qbs I’ve ever seen spin it
And he could be elusive but his first instinct wasn’t to run it was to pass
He needs to be in the football hall of fame
Wait.... He's not?!
@@AkioAkemi Sadly
I think he will get there, look at the nfl QBs in the nfl now. Gotta give him credit for helping the game evolve where it is with a dual threat QB.
Exactly
facts he does and donavn mcnabb
Cunningham was Lamar's running, Vick's physics-defying escapability, and Mahomes's absurd arm all rolled into one, decades before any of them rolled around. Now if only my Eagles didn't waste his prime and that 1991 defense....
Before Mike vick and Lamar Jackson we had rocket 🚀 Randall when I was growing up
Loved Randall when I was kid bro! Maaaaaad underrated too.
He was average but a great weapon
Best player on super tecmo bowl!
@@bricebrown5508 nothing average about randal... Stop the propaganda
@@kalebnbrown nah that title easily goes to Bo Jackson
2:15
So no one is going to talk about that Eagles player absolutely flooring that Giants player?
Daaaaaaaaaaaaamn his ass got rocked lmao
I think he killed him lol
Blasted off!
He sent that nigga flying 💀
Had to put that in slo mo 😂😂😂😂
the most exciting player I ever saw. You never know what could happen on any given day. I can still hear Merrill Reese screaming himself hoarse over that 95yd TD to Barnett from the Bills' endzone, ducked under Bruce friggin Smith ran left and threw a bomb. It's a crime that they didn't win a SB with the team they had, especially that defense. never had a top tier offensive line though. The one year that he did, with Minnesota, he went 15-1 and was in MVP talks again at an advanced age. Great player
In my humble opinion, possibly the most talented and athletic player at any position in history. Not saying the greatest, but from a raw talent perspective, it was ridiculous. Right here in this video he launches one about 70 yards while running full stride which just doesn’t seem possible. He had an overall passing range of 80 to 85 yards. Ran a 4.4 in the 40. Could jump higher than most commercial aircraft. And those throwing mechanics were just gorgeous.
Every week back then we would all hardly be able to wait to watch the highlights just to see what he would do.
I can’t believe he doesn’t get more respect and isn’t in the hall yet. He was a missed field goal away from the super bowl, he was MVP twice. That was also him bombing it to Moss his rookie season.
And he along with Barry Sanders and Deion Sanders made a lot of the greatest highlights we will ever see. Great era. I miss a lot of players like these.
and this doesn't even display his punting ability....he once kicked a 91(!) yard punt -- granted it bounced rougly half of that distance, but any punter will tell you that to get a punt to bounce like that - in the direction you want it to go, IS a skill in and of itself.
@@JKolodn3 Actually, I was able to include his famous 91 yard punt at the 5:17 mark of the video. Randall really could do it all!
Well said. Randall, Barry and Deion made me an NFL fan.. Miss that era as well.. RC12 for the NFL HOF...
@@PockyCandy what's the name of the instrumental from the 5:03 mark?
2:11 is the nastiest block in history
I didn't want to comment out of respect for the deceased.
Byars laid out Pepper Johnson. Would be fined and suspended in this era. Great Block!!
That guy went to infinity and beyond
Good Lord, I remember that play like yesterday. The REAL crackback block
I noticed that TOO, and now I've read TWO comments, SO FAR, from you's, yout's...Y'ALL, showing that I'm not the ONLY one!!!!!!!!
Lamar Jackson couldn't hold Cunningham's jock strap. This man was quite possibly the greatest talent to play the game of his generation. Awesome video of my favourite player of all time and likely one of the most under-rated players ever. The man was incredible.
Lol
What a random call out 😆 Lamar is a beast.
Randle had a cannon for an arm.
Truly.
If Randall came out of college today, he'd be the #1 overall pick.
@HEAT1996 Did you ever see Randall play!?!?! He would be a top 5 player in draft today. He is 6'4, throws 70 yards, and had good speed. He made HOF players look silly.
@@tru6214... He must not know about Lawrence Taylor, Derrick. Thomas, Pat Swilling, Kevin Greene, Ray Childress, Gregg Lloyd and a host of other vicious LBs in Rocket Randall's era. Them dudes in the 90s cracked heads and feasted on QBs. Randall eluded them dudes..lol
@@efdrayton8207 Exactly... lol. Those dudes are all time greats. They would dominate today. Ray Lewis was the last of that kind... now little 225 lb LBs that can't tackle
@@tru6214 225 isnt small tf, and lb's are smaller now so they can cover better and be faster
No lb today is better than ray Lewis and urlacher were 10 years ago. Luke Kuechly maybe but he retired
Pretty sure Mike Vick had a Randell Cunningham Jersy.
albert larkins Lamar Jackson surely had a Vick Jersey.
Vick was in another world than Cunningham. Possibly the fastest player in the NFL in his prime to go with the strongest arm in the league outside of maybe Favre. Cunningham was an elite athlete before his ACL injury and a pretty good QB overall afterward. But give Michael Vick Chris Carter, Randy Moss, etc and he would've won multiple championships
That was his favorite player growing up as a kid.
This dude needs to be in the HOF!!!!!!
him and mike vick...
Nah his accolades aren’t there
He has the most fluid, beautiful throwing motion I've ever seen. One of my all-time favorite QB's ! ^v^
Like in baseball, 5 tool guy. He could do everything that was asked of him.
@@txmetalhead82xk Agree, completely! (LaFunk/RockHead66 ;-) ^v^
I used to say that Randall was my favorite Eagle of all time. Then I used to say Randall was my favorite football player of all time. I now say Randall is my favorite athlete of all time in any sport. I didn't say the best but he is definitely my favorite. Drops the mic.
Randall WAS the Human Highlight!!
Man Cunningham is the most talented quarterback that ever played the game
As a lifelong eagles fan, I remember when Cunningham came off the bench on 3rd and longs when the eagles were trying to squeeze one more year out of the solid but fragile Ron Jaworski. In a division of multiple super bowl winners with outstanding defenses, leaving Jaws in against inevitable blitzes was bad business. So Cunningham was baptized in the fire of having to come in under immense pressure as a rookie. Only the fans loved his game until he began to lead them to wins under buddy ryan. My favorite era of football.
Imagine this man in today’s offenses. As a defensive player myself I can confirm it would give me nightmares.
Fun fact Randall Cunningham is a pastor at the church i go to and is a coach for my schools football team.
That's cool
Nice!
Which school is it?
Hi, kids. Randall was Lamar Jackson when Lamar Jackson's parents were in grade school. Have a nice day.
There will never be another Lamar Jackson just because a qb can run doesn't mean they are Lamar Jackson do u think Jalen hurts is another Lamar Jackson???
@@nightmarekilo84 Yes! Lol!
@@masterstumpy3583 then u are wrong Jalen hurts and Lamar Jackson are nothing alike
@Lil Bibby nope! After this season Lamar will fall off the map! LOL! He's just a one-hit wonder! LOL!
@Lil Bibby He extremely overrated!
Honestly, Lamar Jackson is Lamar Jackson, but if there were someone I'd compare him to It'd be Cunningham, not Vick.
I can see that. Don’t be hesitant to make that comparison. It’s close af, almost like they’re the same player. Randall also faced the same criticisms that Lamar did. The difference is, Randall played in a different era & im not talking about the rules. I’m talking about play calling. The designed runs that they be having Lamar and cam do weren’t popular in the nfl in Randall’s era. He had roll-outs and just regular scrambling from the pocket. If he ran the read-option like Lamar, I think he could’ve looked identical to Lamar.
Same build, damn near same throwing motion... it’s crazy
EITHER COMPARISON WOULD BE ON THE MONEY!!! LAMAR HAS SAID REPEATEDLY THAT VIC WAS HIS ROLE MODEL!!! HE IS ONLY 22 AND DID NOT SEE RANDALL PLAY; HE GREW UP ON MIKE VICK!!!
Randall has a better throw accuracy
Parker Dillman it’s too early in Lamars career to be saying any of that; but right now compared to then, sure.
Randall was one of the best to ever play the quarterback position. His brother Sam was phenomenal as well
Randall Cunningham is one of the most exciting players Ive ever seen. I am Cowboy fan, but I watched many Eagle games because of the excitment this man generated!!!!
You’re doing amazing things for us football historians who can’t get enough of these older players highlights. Especially love the classic tailback series. Keep it up!!
Vintage randall !! Dude set the standard for athletic qbs... Wasnt a kid that wasnt saying randall while playing football with my friends..
@@jamesroberts1810 that’s cool and all but since the game has evolved I’ll take modern day mobile QBs over Randall like……Daniel jones
The Legendary Randall Cunningham.. My all time favorite player. When football was football. Few if any players since could bring so much excitement to the game.
He’s the reason I’m a die hard eagles fan til this day ...before Vick or Lamar there was Randall the black swan 🦢
You too huh?me as well and I'm from Seattle.....
He’s also the reason I’m an Eagles fan. They had some great teams beck then, and a pretty decent Defense also.
Same, never lived outside of California but have been a die hard Eagles fine since the first time I saw him play.
One of the few players I miss watching. He was special. There is no one like him now.
Severely underrated. If you can pass like him you couldn't run like him, and if you can run like him you couldn't pass like him. He was special.
When people talk about Randall the first thing that gets brought up is his mobility. People forget he had a freaking bazooka for an arm.
Mike Vick before Mike Vick! I still remember the cover of Sports Illustrated with Randall Cunningham on it with the words The Ultimate Weapon! If he just had a half decent offensive line and a capable running back he would have been so much better with my Eagles and then the injury! I felt so bad for Cunningham in 1998 with the Vikings when Garry Anderson missed the field goal at the end of the NFC championship game against the Falcons and lost when they were 15-1 that season and Garry Anderson was 35 for 35 in field goals and 59 for 59 with extra points that year and missed the only field goal that counted! I really think the Vikings would have beaten the Broncos with Cunningham, Chris Carter, a rookie Randy Moss, Robert Smith, Randall McDaniel, John Randle, Robert Griffith and more! Moss caught a rookie record 17 TD passes! Plus Bob Sapp was on the team but suspended! LOL
With this man, every play was a highlight.
The music makes this even more amazing.
I’m still having trouble finding it though.
A lot of the music can be found in this playlist:
ua-cam.com/video/7UFigSp9UNY/v-deo.html
Watched him as a kid, my all time favorite eagle and player. Originally from Philly, grew up mostly in Michigan so the other kids just didn't know or understand lol dudes a legend.
As I was making this video, I couldn’t help but wonder “What would Cunningham have looked like in a modern spread offense?” While the Eagles did utilize the shotgun formation more-often than many of their contemporaries, they weren’t sending guys in motion, or using option concepts.
I feel like Randall Cunningham would’ve broken records if he’d played in a more wide-open offense. He did have some decent weapons in Cris Carter, Keith Jackson, Keith Byars, etc. His line wasn’t anything to write home about though.
As always, I hope you all enjoyed this video! Let me know who you’d like to see next!
And I only used overhead-angle highlights for this video, to simulate the feeling of watching him on TV. Obviously, I retimed everything to help with this too. Hopefully the old TV effect isn't too obnoxious, but I wanted it to look like you'd just popped in the VHS tape and was watching some vintage NFL films highlights. All music was found on Dave Volsky's channel.
I've seen him in person...
Only guys like Deion, Bo, Mike Vick, etc., we're better natural athletic talents.
MAYBE only Elway had more arm ability. .?
(That kid in KC, is about to join that list....)
The answer is Lamar Jackson.
The rules today make it easier for the WRs. If you went up the middle then, you'd get clobbered by safeties and MLBs, now they're scared to get penalized and not to mention the bump and run CBs. If you time warped them to today with a spread offense they'd do amazing. Run option would also be a legit weapon.
@@godson0282 I love Lamar, but Randall was a way better thrower of the football. He was very accurate. Randall issue was that he never really played within a structured offense with the Eagles - he was the offence
Grew up a Rams fan but Randall and Moon were easily my favorite of that era
im glad yt suggested this video. Randall Cunningham highlights are so entertaining. He was my favorite QB as a kid. no one was as exciting to watch at the time. he had the howitzer arm, speed, and amazing command of his offense. I dont know that hes a hall of famer but id vote for him if he was a candidate.
Brings me back to my child hood Randall always be my fav qb all time hands down EAGLES
Literally 20 years ahead of his time !!!
I remember when Randall Cunningham played with Randy Moss.....WOW 😲😳! That was an exciting year. They almost went to the Superbowl!!!!
You really forget just how good Mike Quick was. Man what a set of hands on him.
Great Video And Great Music! 👍🏼
I really think he was the greatest but his career was cut short by injuries.....he made a great comeback with Minnesota too.
He was fantastic quarterback 😃
out of every QB ive watched play the game no one has a better deep ball than Randall his pass is poetic and effortless the way he throws that arm and that ball perfect spiral sails down field is a work of art when he had moss and carter they were the best weapon in the NFL
how about warren moon???
@@ezekwu moon is cool but still his deep ball is nothing like Cunningham's
Dude throws an INSANE 65 yarder on the money, running full speed out of his own end zone at 2:19 😂 that’s one of the best passes I ever seen!
He had an insane arm. And he made it look effortlessly the way he would just whip the ball out.
Love the 90s era Eagles jerseys that green and silver looks 🔥🔥🔥
one of the best quarterbavk from the eagles
My fav player 😍
Being a Broncos fan, I always loved Elway most of course. However, Warren Moon, Randall Cunningham and Marino were all my other favorite QB's!
Loved him as a kid. 1st Starting Lineup figure I got. He was my 2nd favorite QB as a kid. I was a Oilers fan so my favorite was Moon.
Bro this music is perfect.
His mechanics are beautiful.
Awesome vid! Sadly Randall was never the same after that injury in 91...btw, love the MNF theme!
5:20 Is that a 90 yard punt from the quarterback?!
Hybrid before hybrids🔥🔥🔥
Eye opening stuff! Makes me look at Vick, Lamar, and Newton a little differently. If Cunningham was in a modern offense we might be talking about him just like Manning, Brady, and Montana
I grew up watching Randall Cunningham, loved when they wear the back shoe cleats
It was kinda their FU to the Commish and the NFL. They got fined here and there but they didn’t care.
Watching him was like a video game, all the attributes if you want to build a QB, run, throw, punt whatever you need. He once had a 91 yard punt and 95 yard TD pass.
Before there was Vick..............
I thoroughly enjoyed that, thanks
People always focus on his running but his arm was amazing. Look how effortlessly he launches the ball 60+ yards
I miss Mike Quick.
Bengals fan here. He was simply sublime.
Savage video!! Appreciate this
I grew up watching this guy in Philly. This is the team I wish we had won a title with, so many great players on one team.
Me too! I’m overjoyed we won in 2017, but I wish the Eagles back in those days won at least one.
What’s the music track starting at 5:05? That’s all the 80’s awesomeness rolled into 1.
I second this I gotta know!
These highlights r amazing
Loved playing him and the Eagles on Tecmo. He was so fast and accurate.
lol QB Eagles all day
Him and #82 stayed hooking up for the TD pass💪🏾
My Dude Pocky, you never disappoint!
And you always seem to enjoy my videos :)
While I have plans for a Walter Payton video in the future, I might make a Gale Sayers vid first.
@@PockyCandy Sweetness is my childhood hero!
Dropping dimes tho 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This is incredible
What an INCREDIBLE athlete!!!!!!!!
I love this video highlight! Especially the music is not loud and annoying while trying to watch this video
He was the first true hybrid quarterback for his time Vick and all those others that came along later should look at Cunningham for making that happen wish he had receivers and a offensive coach because he would be in the hall no doubt buddy really didn't care about the offense he wanted a great defense still love watching his highlights Gang Green forever !!!!!!
He got hurt after his third season , his knee was bel
even as a cowboys fan I gotta say this dude is the only eagles player I like
One of the best of his era
People who say Aaron Rodgers is the most talented QB ever were either born in 1999+ or don't know enough football to know who Cunningham is. By far the most talented QB to ever do it. If he played in this era of consistently throwing the ball 500 times a season, he'd be putting up insane numbers.
so y'all ignore Randall Cunningham's kicking skills ????
Randall was also a first tier punter as well. I can't believe UNLV was lucky enough to have him.
His passing was crazy AF.
Best running QB I knew in the NFL
Rocket Randall is a top player not in the HOF right now. I honestly think if not for the last second failed field goal he have a Super Bowl ring and MVP on his resume. Massive innovator in the QB position
7:52 this man almost broke his leg celebrating 😂
🔥🔥🔥🔥 Very. Underrated!!!!

I say more like Carson Wentz. Randall is better than Wentz but he's more like Wentz with avoiding sacks and using his feet.

Way better then dog catcher vick lol
Manly Men i bet you a white person thats saying it too smh y’all hate on us so bad
Mike couldn’t handle this guys jock!!!! Lol
I wore his jersey the day the Eagles won the SB. I’ll never forget it.
Eagles should have wore the throwback white jerseys on MNF last night. Those are the ones I remember them wearing at home.
We aren’t gonna act like we didn’t see that crack back at 2:17
Dam he smooth💯
Cunningham,Marino, elway,montana,esiason,moon,Aikman, all great quarterbacks from 80s and 90s
the fact that randall cunningham is not a hall of famer is sinful. as a player he was a 2x bert bell winner, mvp, first-team all-pro multiple times. sure he never had any success in the postseason(neither did dan marino, warren moon, fran tarkenton, etc.) he was one of the most underrated nfl players of all time and would surely be hailed as a once-in-a-lifetime prospect in today’s nfl. not only were his accomplishments worthy enough for a gold jacket, the dude also completely revolutionized the game of football and should be recognized for influencing today’s more physical, athletic style of qb play and for making guys like michael vick, kyler murray, and lamar jackson such hot commodities out of college.
facts...
I'm here because I said Steve Young was the best QB who could scramble until my old school coworker said, "Look up, Randall Cunningham." 😮
