We’re watching Randall Cunningham and Dan Marino go at it in this underrated classic, and we got Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa going at it this Sunday Night
Jalen hurts is boring as hell to watch man. All that running they do. They paid him 250 mill to run the ball 40 times a game and when they need him to pass he’s MID .. 22 tds passing last year 🤦🏾♂️
Big Dolphins/Marino fan here but a BIG shout out to Fran Tarkenton, who held both the passing and rushing records for QB's until Marino and Cunningham came along. What an underrated QB. But then you could say that about all 3 of these guys. Thanks for this upload!
Jeez as somebody who's born in the 90s and didn't grow up watching Marino I've heard all about him but you really get some perspective on how insanely precise he was watching this.
He was Peyton before Peyton. Same player with all the tools. Different era. Rules favored defense. No protections for QBs. Offenses were still geared to run and not to pass.
I watched pretty much his whole career. Still my favourite passing QB to this day. That release was lightning fast, so accurate and some incredible come from behind wins. A travesty he never won a SB.
Its that quick release that killed teams! Yes, he had a strong arm but it was intellect to know to go with ball at 6'5 to go with that quick ass release. That is what made Dan deadly
That 4th and 10 completion to Duper was just perfect by Marino & Duper staying in bounds with the catch, underrated play that helped them keep that going. I remember like yesterday that this victory clinched a playoff spot for Miami for the first time since '85.
Yep. When Elway won his super bowl the NFL was just beginning to enter into its pass first era favoring QBs. Marino and Randall were doin it when the rules still favored defenses and the run game.
This whole highlight just reminds of how physical it all used to be! So many modern day flags would have been thrown in this game with the leading helmets diving hits. I almost forgot this is what the football I grew up loving even looked like. Thanks for the upload.
I have this tape on VHS tape ! That catch that Keith Byers snatched out of Tim Mckyers hands was heart breaking! I thought for SURE Philly was going to win In the pregame, they were contrasting the styles of Marino with Cunningham, and for Randall they showed his highlights to Jazz music and for Marino they played classical music.

After them he his best wr was probably Irving Fryer at the down side of his career. Marino also never had a Marshal Faulk or Edgerin James in the backfeild. This was one of the greatest games I've ever seen. The Eagles D Vs. Miami Offence was epic. Richmond Webb and Keith Sims were rookies blocking against some of the best pass rushers in the league. Duper vs Eric Allen. Miami was missing Mark Clayton and Tony Paige, but Buddy never learned from his previous two matchups (85 Bears, 87 Eagles) that you don't win by blitzing Marino. Dan is the greatest 4th down downfield passer I've ever seen. Everyone knew that 4th down in the 1st quarter was going to be a pass.
This was one of my favorite games of all time. My two favorite teams, and two of my all-time favorite players, at the height of their careers. Both teams were really good that year... this is a great throwback game!
Dude Cunningham avoiding Bruce smith and launching the ball for the touchdown is one of my all time favorite plays, that play was I think 98 or 99 yards
Still incredible to me that the Eagles from the late 80’s into the early 90’s never at least got to a Super Bowl. More incredible that Marino never got back to a Super Bowl.
@@Enigmalake If they ran the ball, they win I guarantee it, but then Nick Siriani's brain turns off and decides to play too much risk and reward and pulled the Seattle Seahawks sin of football. I don't get that moment to be honest, It's like the Patriots and Raiders from last year in a way.
@@LiamDeegeKyle Shanahan did it in SB 51, 54 and 2021 nfc championship and went wrong. Throwing the ball instead of running the ball and kill the clock when you have a good score advantage is bad
@@bebolino100 No kidding! Like why would you throw the ball on 3rd and 10 right on the 2 minute warning!? The Jets had no timeouts left too so in any case the Eagles likely would've won that game had they ran the ball because they would've punted with just over 1 minute left.
Marino played for 17 seasons. In all that time, he only had ONE running back that rushed for over 1000 yards in a season: Abdul-Jabbar in 1996, who BARELY broke 1000 yards. He averaged less than 3.5 yards a carry!
Marino on 4th and short more often than not goes deep and I like that. It showed how much confidence he had in his arm and in his receivers to make the catch. The sad thing about Marino is that his teams came up short in winning Super Bowls. If he was on championship rosters we would be talking about him as one of the greatest QBs in NFL history. Instead he loses in arguments when compared to Joe Montana, Tom Brady, and Peyton Manning and probably soon Patrick Mahomes.

You need to watch the 1985 Dolphins/Bears game. The Bears were undefeated at that point with their 4-6 defense. Marino tore them a new anus! The Bears ended up with only that one loss for the year and won the SB.
Randell threw that first touch down to the running back is classic the defender thought he had interception and the running back caught a one handed catch amazing
