Only 7 minutes to show 4500 miles? Come on, you know they have hundreds upon hundreds of hours of amazing footage, I wouldn't mind seeing a 2-hour documentary on this adventure; something that I have been thinking of doing with a couple friends for a little while now.
Hey Monica! It's great that you are in the market for an lr4! I've owned an lr3, it's virtually the same vehicle as the lr4 structurally, I'd suggest getting an extended warranty covering atleast 100k or more. As much as I loved my lr3, the amount of random electrical issues and structural issues was unacceptable. Thank god I had the extended warranty, if it wasn't for that I would have had to pay over $20k out of pocket. Just a tip, try not to open the sunroof, the drains for that tends to clog very easily. Even with the sunroof closed, one time after a heavy downpour, I came to open the back door and water poured out of my truck... But I still miss Burtha... Even tho she had a lot of issues, she took me places I've never been before.. And if your still reading this... I love you... Lol
Yes, I too would love for this to be a full documentary. I'd even be willing to pay for it. Some amazing, adventurous folks, and that iconic LR4. What a trip!
At 3:50, the weight limit of that bridge is 3 tons. The curb weight of an LR4 is over 5,600 lbs alone. Plus all of their gear. I guess that's pretty adventurous.
We love Leno and all the adventures he brings out here..... He has shown many vehicles be it steam, gasoline or etc. driven.... Just amazing.... Now off road... Yay!!!!
Land Rovers are something else. We went on an off-road journey to Morocco and our 20 year old Discovery coped incredibly well, not even a punctured tyre.
Don't forget these vehicles have stock tyres (sorry, tires) I understand. I worked with Land Rover and I've taken Range Rovers to some incredible places on stock tires.
1:25: "never though, has a proper vehicle... " So by your logic, a motorcycle is not a proper vehicle? Well, if you are looking for adventure, you owe it to yourself to try it. On the freeways, highways, dirt roads and trails... 4 wheels is like an airliner, 2 wheels is like a fighter jet... Those who ride know this; those who don't, don't...
My Uncle worked his whole life for Rover & Land Rover in Birmingham, he had loads of great stories but one that sticks in my mind was how he worked on the Rover 2000, a great car, but he worked on the Gas Turbine version! Yes they actually made a Jet Engine powered street car....sadly i believe they only made a couple of proto-types, then they dropped the gas turbine engine for a standard petrol engine. See if you can find one of those Jay....
I joined a couple of my friends on a training course two years ago, testing various Land Rover models, guided by professional instructors. The Disco 3 and 4 are also up to it, despite their glossy appearance. I know, I was there, driving and comparing them.
I wonder if LR has used footage from this video to sell the LR4. If this doesn't prove the of-road worthiness of LR SUV's I don't know what does. Having said that...if I were to buy a LR the LR4 would be the one over the RR and the Supercharged Sport...simply because LR has chosen to follow other SUV design in sloping the backend forward. So you loose space out back to carry bulky items. You loose trunk space.
Would be amazing if Jay was able to organize some kind of cross-country road trip for enthusiasts. Have people sign up, maybe pay some entrance fee or something to support the event, and drive trails like this and others across the US with a big convoy. Sort of like the Gumball rally, but not really a race, nor on roads (apart from stops for food or visiting classic Americana diners along the way, etc.). Keeping the automotive enthusiasm alive and do what we all love, driving.
before hulu, netflix, and before i found all these cool car videos on youtube there was Jay's Garage. I guess Jay's garage just isn't the same as it used to be.
Did you get a lot of flat tires? When I lived on a gravel road, I found that if I drove under 40 mph, that I didn't get flats. The front tire picks up nails (and such) and sets up the back tire to receive them if you drive over about 40 mph.
have u seen some of the trails? i agree that a jeep wrangler(not the grand cherokee crossovers) is more capable cuz of the mad articulation of their axles. but even so, they still have to drive just as careful as they did in the LRs.
Holy hell, I have to take this same journey one day! Same route, meet the same people, plus some... different truck. Too afraid I won't make it... this guy got lucky.

Jeremy Rhydes has hours of the TAT on his channel. It's great fun. I highly recommend watching it.
It’s a travesty. This would have made an amazing six parter!
I've got over 2 hours footage of just the western TAT... can you edit it for me?...:-) Juan
@@blancolirio I'd be happy to lol
Wow, this makes me want to do this with our Disco 2
Land Rover LR 3 / LR 4"s are truly remarkable vehicles (our 2006 LR 3 is so far unstoppable off road!)
Have you ever towed with it? I'm considering looking for a 2013 LR4 to replace my Hummer H2
Did not expect to see a Morgan Freeman interview in a video about Land Lovers
Breathtaking views, this has been added to the bucket list.
Love this! I'm researching a used LR4 and this makes me very confident about the purchase!

Love the LR4, it's a frigging tank with supple leather and air conditioning lol.
@Dave wilson
Fair enough, hard to beat Toyota reliability.
Yes, I too would love for this to be a full documentary. I'd even be willing to pay for it. Some amazing, adventurous folks, and that iconic LR4. What a trip!
This was way too short!
thats what she said
doodskie999 Nycuk, nycuk
This looks epic - please consider doing a longer cut, maybe a 60 min version. Seems like you threw a lot of good material away!
Whats the best off road vehicle? A rental car.
+Bernard Barbour suzuki samurai
Ok Jeremy Clarkson 😂
This ^^^^
Bernard Barbour hahaha...how about a Hummer H1?
I rented a Discovery once in Las Vegas, It was awesome off road.
At 3:50, the weight limit of that bridge is 3 tons. The curb weight of an LR4 is over 5,600 lbs alone. Plus all of their gear. I guess that's pretty adventurous.
That is a metric ton. ~6600 lbs
We love Leno and all the adventures he brings out here..... He has shown many vehicles be it steam, gasoline or etc. driven.... Just amazing.... Now off road... Yay!!!!
Our 2007 LR3 is awesome...Great video of a great trans-America trail....thanks!
This is one of my top all time dreams. Thank you so much for sharing it!
Excellent. Thanks for this. I can't help thinking this could have been a cool little mini series. 😄
Love it and considering buying 2016 Land Rover Lr4
Land Rovers are something else. We went on an off-road journey to Morocco and our 20 year old Discovery coped incredibly well, not even a punctured tyre.
Jay to you and your staff, thanks for the great post.
Don't forget these vehicles have stock tyres (sorry, tires) I understand. I worked with Land Rover and I've taken Range Rovers to some incredible places on stock tires.
Very enjoyable video, I have been to so many of the places shown here. Brings back so many good memories, Thank you
Thanks for sharing Jay. This is why you need your own motor sports channel
1:25: "never though, has a proper vehicle... "

Haha but a Land Rover somehow is? The world's most unreliable car.
My uncle is probably going to give me his Discovery 2. Also own a ZJ 5.9. Can't wait to take them both on this trail!
Nice one Jay.. love to have that map.. freeway driving is sooo boring.. driving on dirt would be a real adventure..
Hello: Thanks Jay that was a trip off all trips. That's a trip for a young person on a 4 wheeler. This could have been longer. Happy Trails

More detail please love to see longer version of this fantastic trip
Too bad it's only a 7 minutes movie!
They cant spend more time offroad (on dirtroads) whitout failure xd
Expedition Overland did a large portion of the TAT (last year?), but they only covered it in part of one episode as well. Bummer.
Thanks Leno. You the man when it come so what American men love....our automobiles
NOT the first truck crossing! A Jeep TJ made the crossing in 2010. The event is well documented, and easily found in a Google search!
But the Jeep started out in 2000.
Love love love love love land rover can't say it enough they are the best and my favorite
Definitely need to create a full length version of this expedition, great vid, show us more.
This concept was FANTASTIC.
Yea. this needed to be a lot longer. Something like Billy Connolly's "Route 66", but 60 or 90mins tops.
Very cool trip. One of those "once in a lifetime" journeys.
I joined a couple of my friends on a training course two years ago, testing various Land Rover models, guided by professional instructors. The Disco 3 and 4 are also up to it, despite their glossy appearance. I know, I was there, driving and comparing them.

Cool movie Jay ! Thanks for posting , enjoyed it !!!!!!
Surprised top gear/grand tour haven't driven this
I think they decided to stay away from the us after their last experience in Alabama
would simply take too long
I love my Rover and this video is just one reason why!
Great video. Enjoyed the scenery you don't normally see.
Would be amazing if Jay was able to organize some kind of cross-country road trip for enthusiasts. That's a cool trip, I wonder if you could do the same thing in Canada. There are still a lot of dirt roads and trails in Eastern Canada.
Enjoyed this one a lot as well! Very cool house as well living in a rock
Fantastic video...TY Jay for sharing this! WOW!
I'd really like to do this in my Pathfinder. This will be added to my bucket list. It's a shame the east coast hasn't completed the trail though.
Loved it Jay . Thanks.
What a great video it deserves like more views and people know more about this
Jay, this was awesome ! Now it's time to do the Pan American Highway...start in Vancouver BC and end in Argentina, and do it in a Jeep
Nice one Jay.
Enjoyed this video very much Jay, thanks...
That cave house was completely awesome!
Where can i get a copy of the trail maps or gps files used?
They have a website you can buy GPS maps, it was 8 bucks for Idaho to the Oregon coast I think.
Should be put on a DVD and sold, I'd buy it for sure!
Added to the bucket list
before hulu, netflix, and before i found all these cool car videos on youtube there was Jay's Garage. I guess Jay's garage just isn't the same as it used to be.
Epic! That trip is going onto my bucket list, except I want to do it on a BMW GS1200
Awesome, have to do it in the Subie.
WHAT A AWESOME JOURNEY.
Wow!! I need to get out more.
Wish they had at least shown a bit of Asheville, NC (thats where I live).
I really wanted this to be a multi-part, 1 hour documentary. Very cool!
Dealer extras.. Why not equip vehicles with decent all terrain tires.. bfgs? What tires did they use?
Land rover is the by far.. Love it
Epic drive.
Did you get a lot of flat tires? When I lived on a gravel road, I found that if I drove under 40 mph, that I didn't get flats. The front tire picks up nails (and such) and sets up the back tire to receive them if you drive over about 40 mph.
Really should be a full documentary, would happily pay for it.
.
majestic !!!
Awesome vid Jay !!!!! more off road videos please...
The variety on this channel is what separates it from everything else. Hands down the best 'motoring' themed channel.
Awesome segment. Would love to see more
This is the sort of thing that moves the adventurer in me. The Pacific Crest Trail, Appilation trail
i want to see more of the trip it would be amazing
2:08 The legend, in the flesh. 😎
Nice. This deserves a Top Gear style 1 hour special.
one for the bucket list - drive off road across the US on the Trans American Trail, heck! why not North and South Americas on the Trans Pacific Trail!
Another great video
Jeremy Hart's voice sounds very familiar! Did he used to comemtate for the world rally championship late 90s early 2000s?
have u seen some of the trails? i agree that a jeep wrangler(not the grand cherokee crossovers) is more capable cuz of the mad articulation of their axles. but even so, they still have to drive just as careful as they did in the LRs.
I love my LR4, such an amazing vehicle offroad
Brendan Smith This comment was 6 years ago. I will be buying a LR4 and need recommendations. Thank you
Very interesting vid! Wish there was a full-length documentary!
A very different and fantastic video.
agreed... i'd love to see a 30min (or longer) documentary of this.
Way cool thanks.
Would love to see the rest of this.
Awesome footage. Thank you!
Jay - this should have been a 1-hour show! And by that I mean 60 minutes, not 43 minutes, of which 17 minutes is repeating what we already saw. :)
Where's the other footage?? would love to see more of this.
Great video! That would be an interesting trip.
this has to be one of my bucket-lists things to do. man oh man.
Holy hell, I have to take this same journey one day! Same route, meet the same people, plus some... different truck. Too afraid I won't make it... this guy got lucky.
So Cool!
Would love to part of an expedition like this!
Love all these leno garage videos. Be a great trip to participate in
Gorgeous video!!
Please release the extended version!!!
This needs to be done as a full mini-series!!! Seriously cool! ....then top gear UK needs to. Challenge jay Leno and top gear us to do it as a rally.
Wish it was a longer more detailed video. Wish I had the cash to do that. Very lucky.
Cool. I want the long version.
Good Stuff Jay!
