Sample Otongos with us - a street food of historical significance! It is credited with sustaining the Marqueños during the War of the Pacific (1879 - 1883).
We'll wander through Lima, whose street food was especially varied. We'll also highlight some sticky-sweet street food in Trujillo, Peru including one dish which oddly made our teeth and mouths squeak!

Thank you so much Carla b (and hubby) for thinking of us and for your very kind comment. We're grand. We returned to Alaska this summer to work the wild sockeye salmon season. After that we made a snap decision to return to Ireland (I hadn't been home in 6 years!) We're now back house sitting in New Mexico. We have a tonne of footage from Peru and Ecuador to edit and release, we just need to get cracking on it. We really do appreciate yous sticking with us, especially when we disappear for so long. Welcome back! I am sure that filming is the only way you could keep track of the huge variety that you sampled (and to use as evidence in case one of these snacks did not, ahem, sit well). As for me, there is nothing like watching an encyclopedia of Peruvian food while I choke back instant noodles in a cup for lunch at my desk! Mind you, I won't be trading my noodles for guinea pig. Anyway ... great job! Thanks for sampling and sharing this incredible array of dishes and drinks!
Thanks Dan! There was a lot of political/social unrest during our time in Peru and we couldn't cover much ground there as a result, but we still managed to find all sorts of delicious street food wherever we went. We wanted to like the guinea pig but that just never happened... To be fair, perhaps it wasn't prepared and cooked properly - that's what a guinea pig aficionado might say. We'd likely skip that delicacy next time...

Awesome. The Anticuchos are delicious, but in Peru they have no romantic connotation or any connection with Valentine’s Day…..LOL.
Butifarra sandwiches are my other street food favorites, but the way that you described the best Papa Rellenas made me want to travel to that particular place.
If you are Peruvian or have tried a lot of Peruvian food as you guys did, you probably have become more demanding. We Peruvian haven’t find out if this is a blessing or a curse……..
Thank you Adolfo! We "loved" the anticuchos, however we had a bland serving of them in Trujillo. As always, some are better than others... You won't be disappointed with those papa rellenas if you ever try them, we promise! They were fab!
@@ACoupleofDrifters My advice is always ask the locals where to find the best anticuchos in town. A good place is where you see a lot of people lining up. Another street food that I like is pan con chicharron or pork belly sandwich. Butifarras and empanadas are my favorites as well. Now that you have become Peruvian food savvy, you won't get bamboozled.

We are back from Alaska. It was another busy season up there with back to back 16 hour work days 😴😴. After Alaska we returned to Dublin, Ireland for a month. I hadn't been home in 6 years, so we were well over-due a visit. Right now we are back at our autumn house sit in New Mexico. It's been a busy few months... hence no videos. Hopefully we'll get a few videos out in November.

Hi David. There was no name on the papa rellena lady's place. She is located on Jirón Miguel Aljovin between Jr. Sandia and Jirón Cotabambas. She was open from 5:30 pm to around 9:00 pm Monday through Friday. There is another small place just a couple of doors away, but it should be easy enough to find the papa rellena lady as it's always herself and her daughter running the restaurant. There were so many incredible places to eat in this neighbourhood, It's no wonder we spent 5 weeks lingering in Lima as we were spoilt for choice just in these few blocks alone.

Hello James. No, we're not back in Peru. We're currently back at our autumn house sit in New Mexico. We're just trying to get some footage together from Peru and Ecuador from earlier this year edited and published before we take off on a new adventure in December.
It's been a busy house sit, so we haven't had time to work on too many videos. Hopefully we'll make it back again to Peru some day. There's still so much more there that we want to see. Sorry for any confusion...we do bounce around a bit, so you never know where we are! Thanks for tuning in to us.
Hello from Maine, it’s Patrick, we are thinking of drifting, we have a place to stay in China, what financial considerations do you find the most difficult, glad to see you back.
Hi Patrick! We hope you and Han get to travel soon. Having a place to stay in China will be a big help. Do you plan on seeing more of that part of the world? How was your trip to China this summer?
Accommodation and transportation costs are major considerations, so anything to mitigate those costs really helps us. For example, we have two long-term housesits in New Mexico that we do each year, and one in Mexico available to us for much of the year. Through an agency we're members of, we can housesit just about anywhere in the world whenever we want - we've been doing this for over 6 years and it's been a real money-saver. Although we use this agency when needed, the two sits I've mentioned are not through the agency as they've sort of evolved on their own over the years. We don't get paid to sit, but we get free board in exchange for caretaking while the homeowners are gone. In fact, we are in New Mexico housesitting right now, planning our next three-month travel adventure which begins in early December.
We can stay in China with no worries, as long as the political situation stays stable. I have a goal of going to Nepal to hike through some of the mountain villages before I get to old. My worry is insurance how do you deal with that.
