Remember to know the triad, Eat two but never combine the three - Fish, Eggs, or Milk (Yogurt). Peruvian food is so amazing. But is easy that we as Peruvians we forget this triad or "we" do intentionally could lead to stomach ache.
You did well in choosing safe places to eat in Peru. Al Toque Pez makes good quality food, mainly all Peruvian seafood dishes (not Japanese, except for Tiradito). Chef-owner (well educated, PhD in chemistry at UK) wanted an affordable place where anyone can eat, unlike his father's very expensive Japanese restaurant Matsuei. Sushi Maki Acevichado rolls and Tiradito (sashimi+Peruvian sauces, dish inspired by Peru's fishermen) are real mixed Nikkei dishes. Japanese influence started in 1973, when first sushi restaurant opened in Peru (to feed Japanese business immigrants). Prior to that, the few Japanese owned food places served Chinese (which some diners thought was Japanese) and Peruvian criollo dishes.
The "arroz con mariscos" is not fried rise, but a paella-like dish. If you want a "seafood fried rise", you need to get a "chaufa de mariscos". Some restaurants like "barra mar" have it. 13:05 the "side of onions" is what is called "salsa criolla" (onion, chili, coriander, lemon juice, salt, pepper). Some people don't like it and that's the reason they put it aside, but usually it's eat inside the chicharrón sandwich. And the "aji sauce" usually is for the french fries, not the sandwich. If you want a spicy chicharrón, you usually just add more chili to the "salsa criolla".

Thanks for your comment! You're so right... the line was very long but the food was still delicious to us "gringos"! Looking forward to try many more amazing Peruvian food! 😋
Greetings. You went to places recommended by Netflix, that is, by tourists, most of them are located in exclusive places in Lima, where most of the true Lima residents do not live, Americanized areas. The real places where they prepare a thousand times better than those promoted places, are outside the tourist districts that travel agencies advertise (districts of San Isidro, Miraflores, Barranco). They are places in Lima where most Peruvians eat: restaurants, Huariques, chifas, etc. Lima has more than 40 districts to visit. The specialists in PAN CON CHICHARRON prepare it in "EL CHINITO", instead LA LUCHA was created in exclusive places to try to imitate that of CHINITO, that's why they became famous; but it is recognized that they have a greater variety of breads with other meats.
Al toque pez, está en Surquillo, es un huarique en una zona de barrio entre Av. Angamos Este y Jr. Dante. Los anticuchos en el centro de Lima por el Mercado Central, no todo fue tan turístico.
Great review! Thank you for visiting my country ❤ I miss its food, I can wait to visit next time I'll go to some of the places you visited in your video that I have not yet visited 😅 Everything in Peru is delicious.
1:43 that is not fried rice, I mean the kind of food known like "fried rice" is "arroz chaufa" in Peru, and you can find it in "Chifas". In seafood restaurant like Al toke Pez it is "arroz con mariscas" or "seafood rice".
Daaaaaang, so do you guys think that Peru passes the 'uncle roger' fried rice standard? do you guys think it even counts as 'fried rice'? I think peruvian chaufa has become its own thing at this point. There's a chaufa that uses typical ingredients from the amazon rainforest and its called an 'amazonian chaufa rice' or ''arroz chaufa amazonico'. so i think that making a chaufa, is kind of like making a risotto, its european in origin, but us latinos have made it our own. A chaufa is a beloved peruvian rice dish, kind of like a paella, like you guys say. I am mexican, not peruvian, but i love peruvian food and culture, so its very interesting to me, what a singaporean might think about this, i am loving your peru videos so far, as i want to go there one day too.
I’m sure many chifa chefs in Peru can earn the “uncle” title 😂 It’s so interesting to see Chinese food has such a cultural significance in Peru. We haven’t eaten much Asian food since we began our travels, so it definitely hit the spot for us! Incredibly delicious!
Hello, glad you are enjoying the food. I heard from locals that the first place you guys went is just ok and overpriced that is why only tourist go(because of Netflix) locals have places where it is made better and cheaper 😁(but it might give a ride straight to the bathroom if your stomach is not adjusted 🤣).

Thanks for coming to Peru. I have a question for you. How many peruvians have you seen at the line of Al Toke Pez? When i was there. I was the only one and few latinos that went there because of Netflix. I tried it and I give it a 5/10 to the fried "calamari" and a 4/10 to the "paella", and a 2/10 to the ceviche. Don't believe Netflix guys. Ask real locals.
I wish you would've tried the Chicharrón Sandwich from the chinese-peruvian people in Mercado del Callao. La Lucha is just ok, you have been influenced by their marketing. If you ever come back go there, WORLDS of difference.
