I can't afford to burn my wardrobe of Carhartt products because I bought them and it was a great sacrifice to me and my family to buy the overpriced gear, but I knew it would stand-up to the rigorous work I would put them through, but I will remove the label and logo from all the products and will go and make my statement with product ratings on Amazon and any other platform they sell on. It's high time people learn that their opinions go as far as their nose sticks out from their face. You decide for yourself whether you take the jab or not, but you ain't telling me to do a damn thing especially after the supreme court ruled against those Draconian mandates. Go woke, go Broke!!!!!

Hello Carl! I have watching your videos for apporox a year. Being in law enforcement there were so many junk jackets that the term "longevity" was not a term that was applicable. I quite accidentally came across a Dickies jacket. What a horrible mistake I made buying it. The zipper was so cheap it jammed with the material and basically I donated it. Absolute junk.
I purchased my first Carhartt jacket shortly after. I was amazed by the 1) quality 2) the tuff construction 3) it had more room for winter clothes worn under the jacket even being zipped up.
Well I've added onto my Carhartt clothing. We reside above 5000 plus feet and I depend on Carhartt to keep me warm down to zero degrees in our long winters.
I hope one day Carhartt will add goose down jackets with a tuff exterior with a western blanket lining with western blanket yokes.
    Best and kindest regards,
    RJ

I have a heavy canvas parka from China. Its extremely heavy and windproof though not waterproof. Given how poorly it moves, I seldom wear it on the go. It's my bonfire coat. Don't have to worry about embers melting plastic, but man is it heavy. Detachable liner was cool too. It came with a quilted cotton liner which made it heavier, but super comfortable. Its called the jundayi and it was what was originally used for workers and soldiers in China. Managed to get a detachable poly quilt liner from another store and its served me brilliantly. I'll use my timberland when I'm on the go, but when it's really cold, it's either the China black of the b3 bomber.

The j001 was made with the original firm duck and only came in brown , blue, or black.
It also had the blanket lining in the sleeves
I think they made a mistake when they changed the Detroit jacket and the chore coat. They had two proven products and had to change them, and not for the better. They produce many other styles that have different options and could have kept their two iconic products original.

I like the old version mostly because of blanket lining. It was perfect. You didn't mention how the old version went from numerical chest sizing to overall sizing. Mine is a 54 I think and I got too fat for it.

In the mid 1990’s my friend Joe who was a NYC union carpenter
, local 1456 Dockbuilders (and pile driving), was walking to the bus in Manhattan on his way home from a job site.
He was walking along 5th Ave with Central Park right across the street.
Out of the building comes a beautiful young woman wearing a Carhartt short jacket absolutely clean. The building was in an area with some of the richest people in the country lived.
This was the first time he had ever seen a “civilian” wearing Carhartt.
He told me about it and commented that was the end of Carhartt.
In a way he was correct, in a short period of time they stopped making everything in USA and turned from a work ware company to fashion.
Now they have a vaccine mandate even though Superman Court hinted it was not legal
And my working friends are disgusted.

Carl Murawski, I used to do receiving in a Grocery and on busy with both overhead doors and the man door being open, I had to get a jacket to wear. The store winter jackets were too heavy. I bought a Dickies Canvas jacket with a blanket lining but couldn’t put my name tag on it. The Manager didn’t care I wore my own jacket as long as I had a name tag on. I eventually bought a Tough Duck one made here in Canada. That’s what I wore at work till I left due to my health. I did try the Carhartt but same issue as with the Dickies I couldn’t put my name tag on. I did keep the Carhartt one riding in cooler temperatures. That is till I left it in my truck and someone decided they needed it more than me.

❤️ those old adverts. Brown duck water repellent. Men shrugged off the weather in cotton and flannel back then. Now they are drugged with the cosh of synthetics. I suppose they could wear it to wash the dishes.

I like the old. I would rock the new one to though. I had one got it from JC Pennies. In Northland Mall off Greenfield. In Southfield MI. I’m from Detroit so it definitely hits home with this one lol. Good video bro.

I wanted a Moss Green Detroit for my uniform, but Carhartt has forsaken us. I'm not paying $500 on eBay, so I went with the Dickies Waxed Service Jacket. Very similar to the new style Detroit with a drop tail and a zippered chest pocket. It's cotton duck like the Detroit and much more comfortable than the Eisenhower. The drop tail hem is perfect for me because it lets me have my radio on my hip, but keeps me covered when I kneel.

I had one for years I bought back in the early 90s..I also had a carhartt Jean shirt Jac made just like an over sized Jean shirt and it had a blanket lining , I wore both till the elbows had holes and the cuffs were frayed I even had a guy sew patches in the elbows..I was eventually deployed to Afghanistan got divorced after bouncing between Afghanistan and Iraq in the Army and as a civilian contractor and along with everything else fell into that black hole void where stuff disappears..I really miss the old jackets and fund a store that sells imperfections from Carhartt and ordering one on Friday

One of the main things being a wearer of watches I never liked with the popper sleeves is the bare metal back, it scratches the heck out of watches. I fixed it by glueing some thick felt over the back. But sleeves are always my Bete Noir as I have short arms so do prefer the poppers as I can then wear without the arms coming down over the tips of my hands.
I wish manufactures would offer different sleeve lengths and the option of tailored of regular fit for each model. I remember in the old days many manufactures offered short, medium or long sleeve lengths. It can cost almost the price of s jacket to alter a popper sleeve or zip sleeve jacket to fit properly.

I got my J97 from an estate sale for $15. Not a stain or tear on this piece. My (interior designer) wife purchased an antique armoire for $90. We recently had it appraised for $4000. The young couple who hosted the sale didn’t know what they were doing.

Hey man , the last one I had, the last two I had in fact had the buttons for the hood because the hood lasted for 2 jackets. I recall the last one had a big union print on the blanket. Made in USA.
I’m really old or you’re a lot kinder on your gear.
I acquired my addiction first as assigned uniform for a few famous ski resorts after college
Since ‘91, I’ve worn through, to taters 7 Detroits most of em black ,1 blue, 2 Detroit Hamilton as well as a early 2000’ Hamilton short trucker (Levi Jean style hem) but, in gold duck. Always the stiff as cardboard duck cloth .
Some entitled drunk girl visiting her friends in Willcox made off with my last one and a fresh pack of Reds . She Houdinied her Rix’s Tavern tab as well on a cold night 2 winters ago. It was weird going without one this winter. I still have my black CORDURA Alaskan Extreme whatever there calling it now . The Thinsulate chore coat style. I held off getting the new jacket because I was stunned the drop tail style. I’m going to spring for the organic winter version from WIP. Or possibly get a short size. I happen to appreciate hip high hem.
The last one was a threadbare junk yard dog beat good and properly warn out for work and all bohemian sheik for a little Scottsdale shawty.
But I’m a Medium ,5’9” ,150 AD-HD curious George monkey man. Generally climbing on the top or crawling under the project. For me it is a tool as clothing. Body armor that has saved my torso from drunken skateboarding commutes , a knife fight , nail gun fights, fireworks wars . Pub crawls and street brawls . to triple digit sport bike get -offs. And a lot of darn chores.
I’ve kinda grown fond of them. I consider it an essential.

I still have my first one I bought the day I got in the trade 24 years ago. It is almost white and tatered. Hung it up and retired it. It was still made in USA.
Dont' think I would buy one today with how Carhartt has changed.

Oh no - I can't believe they changed it! I had a Detroit I bought in 2008 but I had a large and didn't wear it so much as it was a bit too big - I ended up giving it to a friend and always intended to replace it. I just kept on with my A2 deck jacket which now really is disintegrating
I'm in the UK and the Detroit is a bit more pricey here - I'd previously ordered from the USA. I never did get round to replacing it, and post lockdown I think a large would fit me great 😁 I like the old cuff and length - not sure I'd go for the new one.
