Dimitri - This is super needed on the 507K models for the compacts. It has a much smaller window and it can be hard to pick up the dot at first in the smaller sights. I never loose the dot on the full size but I do struggle on the K version at times. I like this recital and would love to see this come to the smaller packages too.

Great aspect of this sight that wasn't (unless I missed it), mentioned by Aaron: you can turn off the outer ring. So, once you're used to the red dot you don't have to be stuck with "training wheels" so to speak. Also, great for shooting at odd angles like barricades, cars, etc.

I believe that the ring is a great tool even for those who don't need the "training wheels." Where it really shines is in self defense scenarios where you may be ducking behind cover and shooting at weird angles or off-handed. You simply don't always have the opportunity to present properly like you do on the range. Hell, I don't have a chips-ahoy display on my range to practice on.
It's also important to remember that the adrenaline dump you'll likely experience when defending yourself significantly reduces your fine motor skills. However you perform on the range, expect 40-50% of that performance to evaporate. You might just end up needing the ring when on the range you wouldn't. At worst, it's completely out of your way and invisible when lined up correctly.

Completely disagree with the "it's a crutch" argument. too
If it lowers the learning curve, it is by _definition_ , *superior* .
Making that argument is like saying red dots and holo sights are a crutch, because you should be shooting with irons.
Last time I checked I wasn't trying to get into a _fair_ gunfight.
ACSS is the next step for optics, *Primary Arms* killing it, they need to license this to everyone on the optics industry tbh.

Love my 507acss. The giant circle is still useful even with experienced shooters. Especially when using it for tactical situations where you are clearing rooms or shooting from off angle barricades where you just cant do the muscle memory presentation. Most shooting is not static in the real world. Personally I think its a game changer

  • @johnwallroff5918
    @johnwallroff5918 3 роки тому +46

The PA ACSS Vulcan Reticle is NOT a crutch. I think it's just a better red dot. If red dots aren't a "Crutch" compared to iron sights, then this sight isn't a "Crutch" compared to a simple red dot. I also don't see this sight/reticle as "training wheels". Learning how to find the red dot by having a proper presentation is not diminished by having this sight/reticle, that still applies here. I see no good argument to use a simple red dot over this type of reticle.

@@brentboyce2959 Maybe you did, I'm not sure and I can't know what's in your mind! What I'm saying is that the standard 507C comes with center 2moa dot. Aaron is testing the version with ACSS Vulcan -- which isn't the standard 507C, but rather is a result of a joint project between Primary Arms and Holosun. They're both 507C in basic label but have different suffixes to the 507C designation. You can verify what I'm saying by checking Holosun's webpage for 507C, and then comparing that info to Primary Arms' webpage for this particular ACSS Vulcan version. I promise I'm not making this up for internet kicks, I don't do that stuff.
If you're talking about having BOTH the ACSS Vulcan chevron, and the 2moa center dot, as programming options in the same RDS optic -- I would agree it's a good idea and you'll see I commented elsewhere in these comments to that effect. I suspect that would cause a pricing upcharge from what exists currently in the HS 503 alternatives, though.
Primary Arms did the same with the HS 503 enclosed tube red dot, the "Paralow" version has the ACSS Vulcan chevron reticle, whereas the standard HS 503 has a center dot reticle.
I've heard that Holosun does other RDS contracting for mfrs who sell Holosun guts etc with their own branding. Don't know whether that is true. Have heard that Holosun does Sig Sauer's Romeo. Maybe Aaron knows?

I have one and while I have developed the muscle memory for shooting RDS's its nice to have a reminder or a guide when shooting from a un-practiced position like under a barricade or off dominant hand. I like it so much I have ordered 2 more for my other guns. Now they need to make a mini-RDS for the popular smaller sized carry guns. I too would also like the dot and not the inverted chevron.

Excellent video! (I'm now a new subscriber.) One thing often overlooked is that some geezers still shoot. I've been shooing since age 6 (yes really) and reloading since age 14. At 74 years old, I'm still active, motorcycling on interstate trips, etc. - However... aging eyes are an issue. I still see 20-20, but the task of focusing on there planes at once is WAY more difficult as one ages. (I appreciate your mentioning that task for any age). I just bought this exact Holosun red dot model (not my first red dot, but IS my first PISTOL red dot). Rifle or pistol, I'm impressed at the ability to target focus and simply superimpose the reticle whether I have the large circle turned on or off. In my case, I live in the rural foothills of SW Colorado and have issues with skunks, reckons, etc. mostly AT NIGHT. With my head light on my forehead and this red dot sight, I'm about as well off as with a rifle and low power scope (a bit difficult to aim the headlight and scope at the same time. With the pistol red dot, I can square up with the target (isosceles) , keep my headlight on the skunk easily and acquire the red dot quite easily. With a rifle I must turn my light onto my left forehead as I should the arm - no good. Just got the Holoson, so only dry firing night or day (under 67 inches on new snow... so no small animals at the moment.) No wonder pros use them in allowable classes of competition! Thanks again, great vid!

Lo and behold, I no longer "search" for the dot upon presentation or recoil. The chevron is THERE ! It is so intuitive that for me, there is no train-up to find the dot. I now have a second ACSS Vulcan incoming. My red dot MRDS are now relegated to sitting in the box on a shelf.

I was on the fence given I’m not as proficient with my iron sights as I want to be (perfectionist) but still not bad with them. I’m getting better especially after training. I also wondered (like you addressed) if this reticle would make me lazy and if lose my proficiency with my iron sights. No matter how much you practice shooting at a range, you don’t know how you are going to react in a real shooting situation (your body may not be in a standing straight up position) especially if someone is shooting back. The Vulcan reticle is not a training wheel for newbies. That’s really an ignorant, naive argument. I want it on my red dot in case I ever need it in a real situation. Also the ACSS arrow reticle is much better than a dot if you have astigmatism (which I personally do) and allows for a more accurate point of aim if you need it (arrow is infinite) vs. a dot that will cover the target the farther out the shot.
