Toyota C-HR 2020 review

  • You know the Distracted Boyfriend internet meme? The one where the guy is checking out another lady while his disgusted girlfriend glares at him?
That’s how I reckon other small SUVs felt about their owners checking out the Toyota C-HR when it first arrived in Australia in 2017 with its futuristic, over-the-top, cool styling.
Now, if me actually attempting to translate a meme (and purely a visual gag at that) hasn’t put you off then chances are you’re likely to read this review about the updated C-HR which has just landed, looking like nothing has changed except for the price.
Well, there are changes - some are big such as the addition of a hybrid to the range and a new media system, and some aren’t as noticeable, like the tweaks to the C-HR’s face.
This review will take you through the new prices, reveal the features and safety tech, and tell you what it’s like to drive. And, I promise, no more meme explanations.
Note: CarsGuide attended this event as a guest of the manufacturer, with travel and meals provided.

Nice review mate thanks, they getting very pricey for what you get these days. my 2006 Yaris, as tinny as it was had more storage space than any car I have ever seen in the cabin and could easily fit four 6 foot adults which I did regularly.
Modern cars are awesome however they are focusing more on style than practicality these days.

Funny, love a bit of personality in my car reviews. Would have liked more tech specs, like how it handles and its range.

People, who don't understand how CVT work and how they're meant to be driven all over the globe. It's insane. It's not the engine or transmission that has to adapt to the driver, but the other way around. Cars are different. Get it.

Still walks funny lol! I’m sure it’s when people actively think about something they do subconsciously.
    Good review though...🤠

put the 1.8l from the hybrid in the petrol. small motor plus turbo will means that you rev the car beyond the way the engine is worked in the fuel consumpt tests = close to 10l per hundred from a 1.2L motor?????. The 1.8 corrolla motor should have sufficed for this vehicle. Love the looks , but could have been so much more. Hybrid for more go go.

Not a fan of the rear door handles being on the window instead of the door. Reduces visibility and many people are jamming their fingers in the door which is much harder to do when the handles are on the panel.

That back window is just too small. It's literally dark in the backseat.

Still do not know why they do not update to Toyota safety sence 2.0, and as usual we do not get the much more powerful 2.0 hybrid unlike the UK..

Australia is a small market and in terms of infrastructure it's not that developed either hence why a lot of higher tech has to wait. Even fuel is crap by world standards!

My Mom bought a 2020 CHR and last winter Toyota had a recall on the block heater. They asked people to come in so service can disconnect the block heat. It was -35 C when they told people in Winnipeg to stop using the block heater. Today Toyota has not replaced the block heater and winter is coming. I am done with Toyota and am telling people Toyota has nose dived in quality and are not fixing warranty issues in an appropriate time frame. I will never buy Toyota. Bought a new 2022 Mazda CX 5 GT Sport and I am very happy with it. Toyota is terrible.
