      Yes 20 years ago I loved the perfect cars and the good paint jobs. Now I just like seeing them running, junky or whatever. I use to not get the whole original and "patina" or whatever but the older I get the more I like the stuff in running original condition. I guess it's as I get older and realize how much those cars and the stuff costs to do that, and that those guys worry if a bird poops on it, if it's wet outside, raining dusty a rock bounces off it as he is running down the highway. I don't mind a backyard 20ft paintjob either thank it looks fine and protects the vehicle and gives it a decent look.

Before I started I had 4 old oil filled radiators plugged in to get the garage warm. I can still picture my mini and it's island blue paint with a white roof!!

      I did exactly the same thing, but without the tent. My Mini was Almond Green with an Old English White roof, 1275A+ Metro engine, Cooper disks, Cooper perforated wheels, later genuine Minilites, negative camber and lowered all round with the obligatory RC40 exhaust.

    • @FenderTele
      @FenderTele 7 місяців тому

      @@jameseastwood4984 I had a similar set up engine wise with a 1275 engine and a set of Cooper S reverse rims until I could afford minilites .I can remember the first MOT , after the rebuild, and the reaction I got. I was sitting outside the MOT centre with the engine running and got the signal to drive in . The guy that was doing the test laughed and said this thing isn't standard and I can smell the fresh respray .He told me that he'd done the exact same thing in 1971, I nervously waited outside wondering if It would pass.After what felt like an eternity he drove it back round to me and said you'll be going home now to fit your spotlights. The fella was trying out a technique he’d been told about by an old hand in the profession early on in his career and remembered it when a new guy at the spray shop was working at got runs in the top coat. He used filler to cover the area and then knocked back the whole area with various grits until he’d taken off all the filler and clear coat and as they’re both on top of the good paint it saved the day with the minimal amount of work. The 1970 Gold Duster was my second car. I really loved that car, wish I had figured out how to keep it. What I would give to be up there helping put this one in somebody’s garage. 😍

    Looks Good.. you’re better off using a 1.3 or 1.4 for clear. In cold weather you wanna heat the clear. Boil a bunch of water then pour it in a bucket. Then set your cans of clear and hardener in there Let ‘em warm up Dutch oven style. (You can set them in front of a heater also). When the components are nice and warm, mix and spray. Trust me. Way less likely to run and it’ll lay down smooth. Set your gun about 29 psi at the cap. Material about 2 1/2 -3 turns out from fully closed and keep the wet spot movin’

      yep I 3rd that I use 1.4 for clear 1.3 for base . and i did use 1.8 for high build primer but now use 2.5

      P.S. get away from the hvlp guns plenty of budget conventional or lvlp guns out there. Heating the clear not only makes it flash quicker. It makes it thin out. Cut your reducer down to 5% or less.

    • @WindWalkerDrones
      @WindWalkerDrones 8 місяців тому

      I'm with you on that doesn't matter if it was a 6,cyl. A car like this at least should have the rust knocked out and the dents filled. Then color change. Doesn't have to be a full out restoration but enough to make it look decent.@rustyul. Of course that just might be the body man coming out in me.

      @@scottcrawford3092 would have taken a day max to bondo and primer. Doesn't have to be perfect. Hell hey put an engine , tyranny ,new rear, custom exhaust, new rims, and new interior. What's the extra day and $400 to make it look decent.

    This Duster reminds me of my 74 Duster that I got off an old man in 77. It only had 1600 miles on it and was Green with a 318. It was as plain Jane as they come, Plastic bench seats, auto trans am radio. I put some fat tires on the back and I loved it, even tho my girlfriend (now my wife of 42 years) hated it. Lot of memories........

    Just ordered a couple of flannels in hopes of having a snow balls chance of winning this awesome car. My son is ordering too. We trued to restore one of these years ago but life got in the way seriously and we had to let it go. I’m sure if by some miracle this ole USAF vet or his son won it tears would flow…. But if someone else wins we will have some warm shirts… love what you do!
