I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for seven MLF Championships and won roughly a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level. - Спорт
I’m 68 and still enjoy learning. Bass fished all my life. Appreciate the videos
That is awesome!
Me too Jackie! Well, not my whole life. Yet! 🤣🎣😎
Congratulations on the growth and the move to TW! Makes sense and I love that I can click on your link that takes me right to exactly what you are recommending! While I liked the discount from the Reel Shot, many times they didn’t have what you recommended, unfortunately. I look forward to supporting you as much as I can!
thank you for the support!
Congratulations on the move, Matt! Great video as always. You’re the one YT channel that when your new video comes out, I stop what I’m doing and watch immediately. Keep up the great work!
AWESOME!
I've always said smaller baits attribute to more bites! I always figured it's just a lot of commitment to expect from a fish especially in pressured water's. Topwater I throw the smallest frogs I can find and get more hits.
This video and all yours are super helpful and so resourceful.
thank you!
Congratulations on the move to TW, Reel Shot is awesome also so good luck with the move. Great tips in this one Matt, glad to see I am looking at things in the right way on our pressured waters.
thanks for the support!
Congratulations on the move to TW. I received some great customer service from The Reel Shot; they seem like awesome people. Wholeheartedly agree on downsizing on pressured lakes: "Shaky head and throw the Ned". Thanks, Matt!
the Reel Shot is awesome and I love the people. but for my personal business brand TW is a better place to be
I know lots of people with affiliate links but I’m definitely gonna use yours exclusively! Some of the best content out there. Thanks Matt!
Awesome! Thank you for the continued support!
Matt, I believe I was lucky to find your channel near the beginning of your YT venture. I subscribed after first video I
saw. Love your teaching skills and your passion for fishing. I commented on one video about not being able to purchase tackle from The Reel Shot because they were out of stock on everything I sought to buy via your link. I really wanted to support you. I must commend you for your response which was, “Yeah, but I really like to support the local dealer.” Instant respect. You’re loyal. Your position on this now is easily understandable. You got a family to feed. You stated it well. I’m fairly sure this won’t be the end of your relationship w/them. Congrats on new path to same destination. I know I can buy my tackle and support you. I’m retired and living on fixed income. Using your affiliate links will help a little. Good luck bro 👊🏼🎣😎
thanks for the support and it was hard to leave The Reel Shot. I had several discussions with them and we all felt best move for me was to go to TW. But we plan to continue to work together in the future on other endeavors. Thanks for the support!
@@MattStefanFishing You’re welcome. It was obvious that it was hard to leave. Thanks again for all the juice! 👊🏼😎🎣
I really like this channel - explanations are real clear.
thank you!
Thanks Matt, as always great info.👍
thanks!
Thanks you for the Great INFO.
You bet!
Would definitely appreciate more norther grass lake specific videos
Will do!
Bookmarked as requested Matt. Your tutorials are appreciated.
thanks for the support!
Love the flat worm, but the hit worm on a dropshot became my new favorite last year for both largies & smallies
very cool! thanks for sharing!
Matt I use the vmc swivel hook. For wacky rig also for drop shot thanks for sharing yourself to other fisherman and always tight lines
Thanks for sharing
Great one, Matt, and congratulations about tackle warehouse
thank you!
Thank you for the video.
You're welcome
I just place an order at the reel shot on Saturday and your discount code still worked. Congratulations on the new agreement with tackle warehouse!
thanks! Im guessing the code will still work for some time. Ive got a lot of videos floating around with Reel Shot links and I think it would be advantageous for them to keep accepting it. but im not sure how long they will.
Great choices Matt. Thanks man. ✌🏻🎣
You bet
Good video. Nice to see content about fishing pressured lakes. I fish two of them .
Glad you enjoyed
Priceless content
thanks!
Funny story, me buying and using and loving the guppy head for my 2.8 keitech swimbaits led me to search for you on UA-cam which led me to your channel. So grateful, love your channel and the guppy head.
That is awesome! Thanks for watching!
The guppy head is awesome gives the 2.8 keitech a great action
agreed!
Love your show,,very informative
Thanks for watching!
I first heard of your channel from following Randy Blaukat , he said go check him out & here I am ! Following both , you guys always give great info ! My fishing has gotten better because of both of you ! Thanks Matt ! Oh & I love TW 👍🏻
Awesome! Thank you!
The Silent Crank I feel may be the key on my highly pressured lake. Lake Prior in MN if you were curious
Give it a try
Congrats on the getting the Tackle Warehouse affiliation, but the one positive thing I’ve learned during COVID is that small local shops are just as integral to the fishing industry as the bigger outlets like TW. They really have come through when places like TW were slow getting product back in stock. Just don’t forget them as things slowly get back to normal…if things were normal to start with. 😬
I agree 100%. I'm a small business owner as well and that's one of the reasons why it was so hard for me to end my affiliation deal with The Reel Shot. I love that store and will continue to promote them and would love to work with them in the future.
I love your picks
thanks for watching! They catch fish!
I really enjoy the content you put out
thanks!
We’ll see how your buddy Randy responds to this. He called tactical bassin a tackle warehouse pushing channel. Didn’t see his point on that one. But I understand your decision. You’re channel is awesome.
thanks! Randy has an affiliate deal I believe with a tackle shop so im not sure why he would care. But i dont make videos to push products. I decide on a topic and then talk about it. some videos are about baits and others never mention a bait. just depends on the day i guess.
Watch every video! Thanks for the info!
thanks for watching every video!
Nice, love the Tacklewarehouse links.
thanks for the support!!
I like all your videos @ TW is great got all new Garmin 2 12 inch units that force trolling motor is great
Awesome! I hope you use my Tackle warehouse affiliate link www.tacklewarehouse.com/?from=MSFG
Thank you Matt, thinking positive 💯 💰
You got it!
Great video 📹 👍 thanks for sharing 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Mid to upper 70's in Tulsa Oklahoma, this week ! 🤣🎣🇺🇲
Nice!!
I’ve honestly never been motivated to use an influencer’s TW link, but I’m definitely going to be using your’s! Marked 👍
Awesome! Thanks for the support!
boy I needed this video, one small reservoir, it seems like there's local tournaments 5 days a week, sumer time its sloshed by pleasure boaters, and everybody has live scope...
i hope it helps!
When you do your “local baits” videos as you travel around, maybe throw a bone to the Reel Shot by doing one based on their unique products when you’re back home (because I’m sure they have some local specialties). But obviously TW is the place to be partnered long term.
great idea! Thank you!
Iiiñ
I love the Reel Shit and have loved their store since they opened their store in Oshkosh, Wi. Matt has been a great Ambassador for them and in fact reintroduced them to me through his channel. I still will buy from them as a result even as he moves to a new sponsor. Thanks Matt for your past involvement with The Reel Shop.
@@richardmajewski3815 thanks for your support!
Should have checked my spelling on the name. Sorry Reel Shot.
Once again great content! You ever ice fish? I live in Canada so I ice fish a lot, it definitely helps scratch the itch for open water.
I ice fish a little but my season tourney season starts in january so i start heading south
One of my favorite UA-cam intros! Great content too!🙌
thank you! Bridgford Foods made that for me!
It really is awesome. I will say the monthly tips part kinda bugs me. It needs to say AMAZING Tips.
It is a good intro. I like it anyway. It looks & sounds professional. Perfect length; not too long or too short. I know I remember it and think, “Matt Stefan Fishing”!
Small cranks are another great option. Not sure if they still make them but I used to catch piles of fish on the Lucky Craft RC 0.5 size , Megabass Griffon and the Rapala Ultra Light Crank.
thats a good suggestion as well!
Ned head with a single tail grub works great.
thanks for sharing!
TW is one of my primary sources of online purchases. They are in Cali and less expensive to deliver, AND, many of the channels I follow have a TW link-discount.
think of me once or twice when you order please and thank you!
Will do Matt!
Just had a warm spell and caught me a 5.7lb today. Been really cold. First one of the year lol Good vid brotha 👍
BIG ONE!
That hoola grub weightless is money on pressured waters. I found one that’s even more unassuming in the Osp hog. 2.5” with a super slow sink rate.
thanks for sharing!
Congratulations on the new business venture. Like I told Debo when he got his deal- try not to get too pushy with the products. This community loves fishing first and foremost!
im going to keep doing what im doing. i dont ever make videos to inflate my affiliatte programs. I really just answer the questions i get in the comment sections. sometimes they are about my favorite baits, sometimes they are about techniques and never even mention a bait. thanks for watching and the continued support.
Great to hear your business is growing, I guess 99% of Pro are in business with TW. Great info Matt
thanks for the support
Heck yea, now I can support my favorite channel through the only place I like to purchase tackle. My local lake is the closest to Tulsa and is highly pressured, being positive and knowing you are going to get bites, just not many, is challenging. I will continue to flip my jig, wacky the General and walk my top water as fast as I can. Going to work on the Ned and Swim bait game this year.
Right on! THanks for the support!
I'm from that area too - you talking about Bixhoma or one of the larger lakes?
@@toddlester8063 Skiatook is 10 minutes from the house
@@johncloud2851 Ah yea, I fish there too sometimes. Nice like, good variety of fish, but yea its pretty pressured.
I lived in Minnesota and I’m still fishing in Mississippi River for smallies
Nice! we are froze over
Congrats on your TW Hookup!! 80% of my gear comes from their online store, have you ever thought about
expanding on your guppy heads with Dirty Jigs? Good luck in the future with that. As usual another great
video love watching your stuff.
thanks! We have talked about expending the lineup and altering it some to make a mini underspin.
@@MattStefanFishing very nice I have several of the guppy heads is there a possibility of doing a 1/16 1/0 & 3/0 in the standard jig heads and/or the underspins. I like using them for crappie and I also use the jig heads when inshore fishing.
brr 30’ is cold! sittin on 74’ here in socal with 8 fish in my boat. hang in there! 🤙🏼
Im jealous!
@MattStefan I know you have fished all over the country. But have you ever fished the Portage Lakes Region in Northeast Ohio. There's 7 lakes in total. 4 main ones that are connected together by channels and streams.
Funny you ask. I have not fished it but know exactly where you are talking. My wife is from Ohio and her family lives all over the state so Im quite familiar with the different lakes. I have heard good things about the portage chain
TW literally overnights my orders out here in CA. I get everything next day. Sweet deal!
very cool!
Ika, rigged backwards on a 3/0 EWG (I prefer a 2/0) weightless. Works everywhere. Even in spots I would never imagine getting bit, it just gets clocked. The hula grub works like hell too! … but there’s something about the ika. Maybe it’s the way it drops compare to other similar baits, rigged backwards. Even lures that are basically the same thing like the PAC hydra.
awesome! thanks for sharing!
FYI Tackle Warehouse also gives Veterans 10% discount even on sale items! Might want to mention that to your fanbase!
thats awesome!
Thanks for those tips!!!!👊🏻 Congrats on getting on with Tackle Warehouse!!! I think it was a good move. So all I have to do is click on of the baits in your description and bookmark it and when I order it will automatically refer to you?? Stay Safe & God Bless!!!!
Bookmark this link and you will be good to go www.tacklewarehouse.com/?from=MSFG
Matt as a MN bass fisherman, you're the closest I can find near me who gives out your superior content. I would like to ask a question I dont think I've ever seen. So here I go...Ill use a swimbait as an example, your typical Keitech SB, on a 1/8oz for my pressured lakes, per second, how many inches/feet will that fall per second?
Depend on your line lb test your using but I’d guess about 1 to 1.5ft per second
I was at Hammonds by Lake Lanier and found the dirty jig MS guppy. Thought I found a sweet new jig to bring back to WI. Today I find out they were designed by a guy from WI. Never connected that the Matt S I watch on UA-cam was the same Matt S from dirty jigs. I haven't see these jigs at any store in WI that I've been to.
haaha! dirty jigs are made in Wisconsin!
I guess I need to go to places other than Fleet or Scheels. I see now that Reel Shot carries them. I'm gonna check out the store tomorrow.
Man that guppy head is my go to smallie head
its so good!
awesome
thanks!
Yamamoto hula is confidence bait of all time. It never lets me down. 197 was my fav, but they don't make them any longer...😢😢
so good!
What do u think about a prop bait around docks from the back of the boat behind a guy skipping a jig.
not a bad choice. i wouldnt do it all day but give it a try for an hour or so
Could you do a video on plastics and colors that can cover 90% of situations? I carry way too many plastics and want to downsize..Thanks Matt
good topic!
Love TW
me too
Yes I'm bummed to. We had two days in the 40's & now it's 21 with wind in the 40's. It not fair !
so cruel....
Can’t wait to use a lot of your techniques I’ve learned since December to throw into my Lake Sharon Maryland I got me a few of your heads in a sound size that I’ll be swimming with a sexy shed keitech 1/8 and I got me a few creature baits and I got me the big brat and I’m gonna be using my drop shot with the Robo worm with a chartreuse tail they were good for throwing them on the beds but you have like three seconds to set the hook and again congratulations on successfully moving up the chain don’t stop looking back brother, only time you look back is it make a correction take care brother tight lines and love them little ones take care brother good luck
thanks for the support!
Would love to see a vid on when to fish lower end vs upper end and when to run on up in the river?? They are no video anywhere on this
good topic
Matt, look forward to your videos. Great way to wind down after a tough day at the office. By chance, can you tell me what the bait is that’s on the thumbnail for this video? I snagged one of these last year and have not been able to figure out what it is. TIA
yamamoto hula grub. ill be doing a video on it soon
thanks for a great show
do you use free rigs, may you do video on it
video coming soon
Matt, what happened to the Yamamoto hula grub in the thumbnail ? I Love that bait in smoke and purple...
Its still out there but completely overlooked
Is there a “lake breakdown” on southern Illinois Lake of Egypt? Thanks for the content.
randy blaukat may have done one. I have not but you can request a personal lake breakdown from me for it here fishthemoment.com/personal-lake-breakdown/fish-the-moment-personal-lake-breakdown-with-matt-stefan?rq=matt%20stefan
Top water is so very key....Many people got awak from the sitter pop
Thanks for sharing!
That Berkeley’s surge shad. Is that still available. Don’t seem to be finding that. 🤔🤔🤔
I believe so
Now hold on, you were recently fishing a tournament on Sam Rayburn. That sure is better than western Maryland. 16 degrees this morning with wind. 😯 I thought you were going to discuss the old hula grub. That is a bait as old as me but it still gets bit.
The hula grub is awesome!
It's great that you changed tackle stores because reel shot didn't have much to choose from as to say dirty swim jigs & or trailers, & I'm sure of others, one question what's going to happen when fish are going to stop biting finesse baits especially on ultra pressured lakes such as Chickamauga?
Go micro or bigger! THanks for your continued support!
@@MattStefanFishing I watch most of your videos & like them but I don't see a need to always comment on them ✌
A few days ago, I started assembling my backpack fishing kit. Jigs per one pro, jerkbaits per another, spinners per another, worms per another. I can’t carry them all.
Panic hit, and I never got out the door. I spent the last few days rebuilding my dropshot and Texas rigs to escape the choices.
just fish with what you have confidence in!
@@MattStefanFishing What’s a novice to do when he hasn’t had enough successes to have confidence in anything yet?
When I was a kid, there was a stereotype of a golfer throwing his club in the water hazard and coming home with a thundercloud over his head and steam shooting out of his ears. That’s me me with fishing.
Theirs not many prop baits out their I use to use the Heddon Torpedo I have few of them but it seems after a few cast the prop stop working only one I have found was the Devil's Horse if you know any lst me know!!!!
thanks for sharing!
I’ll start clicking on your bitly links! Maybe start creating monthly baits suggestions and different techniques gear suggestions like tacticalbassin? However, Matt and Tim have started going overboard with tackle suggestions that clearly are motivated by the affiliate program/commission.
Thanks for the suggestion. i dont like the monthly tackle suggestions because they are relevant to your area. guys are giving there favorite february baits but yet half the country is froze over. Id rather talk about winter baits or prespawn baits so people can apply them to their area when the season is right,
@@MattStefanFishing this is what sets you apart from all the other salesman/fishermen! Keep up the great work!
Matt , congrats bro you deserve it bro , sincerely , I’m happy for you too
it was definitely an unexpected invite and one Im happy to have gotten. I love The Reel Shot but from a business perspective TW is the place to be
What line size do you recommend for the high pressured lake with each of these techniques?
i go with the lightest possible. Generally 6 lb fluorocarbon on my spinning gear and 10 lb fluorocarbon on the baitcasters.
Thank you Matt. Love the channel and content you share to make us all better fisherman!
So the The Reel Shot discount code is not valid anymore?
my guess is its still valid at the moment but will be discontinued at some point in the future.
I used to buy a lot from tackle warehouse but the last two times I did my card got hacked has anyone else had that problem thanks again for another great video
James, absolutely. I'm glad you posted this because my Discover card just got hacked again this week after TW shipped me a backorder. I have had credit cards hacked at least 15 times and the one common thing is...it happens when the card is used for a TW purchase. Can't prove it because I don't have the resources to investigate but it sure is suspicious.
Yup, happened to m when l was black Friday shopping
Im sorry to hear that. I know they had a breach last fall but from what ive been told its corrected. I buy monthly from TW and have never had a problem. Knock on wood
I'm all for the small business and I support the heck out of them but when I'm on a mission for tubes and maybe a tube jig and I only find 2 packs of goby magic power tubes in the 4 stores near me. I gotta do what I gotta do.
i hear yeah
Is the Hula Grub in the thumbnail something you throw on pressured lakes? I've got a couple packs in the box, but I've never thrown them. Congrats on TW, hope you can still give some love to The Reel Shot too.
thanks! I douse the hula grub on very pressurred waters. I actually made the thumbnail first and then forgot to mention it in the video. but I talk about the hula grub in an upcoming video.
@@MattStefanFishing Thanks, I'll look forward to watching.
I've got a beaver problem in my pond what do you recommend?
Oh boy! Leg Traps maybe
Here in the south we just add gators, circle of life
my Co-Angler and I had our derby won with 16.75 lbs in 20 mins at a spot on our home lake...I replicated this pattern on the same conditions...and they were simply not there< and haven't been there on same said conditions. What are we doing wrong?
Bummer
Georgia
thanks for watching!
Try some the leech baits
sounds good!
The reel shot was a nice little shop, but they didn’t go very deep in selection!
that was one of the negatives
get ready for the snide comments. the boys at TB have been doing a hell of a job and everyone acts like all they do is sell stuf for tackle warehouse. I really like being able to look at the stuff you are talking about as I follow along and study what you say. Thanks.
i hope people realize the channels not geared towards selling stuff. Most of the topics at this point are answers to viewer questions. Some videos talk about techniques and never mention a bait, others are more about baits, but i never tailor a video to try to sell.
@@MattStefanFishing i watch your videos to learn. Your presentation is very genuine. And you gatta know, there's no accounting for some people's negativity.
No- not the spin rocket and spin bomb- that's two of my favorite top water baits. I guess I better stock up.
Yeah i hear the spin rocket is getting discontinued
just bought 196 items from tw used your link hope it helps. Fun fact for people if you didnt win the rico blems over the 25 days of xmas, you got a 20% off code emailed, I combined it with the 25% off spring sale for 45%
holy smokes! Sounds like a great deal! Thanks for supporting the channel.
I never understood that phrase "Don't be afraid to... " as it pertains to fishing- why would I be afraid? LOL- I guess it's aimed at tournament guys- who might have a reason to be afraid- afraid of losing. Because for the rest of us, let's be real- it's not the end of the world if we waste an afternoon throwing the wrong bait. In fact, most of us do it pretty often by mistake anyway. I throw top water way off into winter and then I pick it back up like mid Feb.- you'd be surprised who's at home if you just knock. I'm not setting he world on fire or anything but- i get my fix. Haven't landed a top water in 2022 yet but- I will soon. Small poppers, make sure the rear hook is dressed in flashy/shiny/glittery material- and just let it sit after pops for a long, long time- this seems to work before anything else- and once they start hitting it, it's on.
I agree. dont be afraid... the worst thing that happens is you catch no fish... which is really not that bad hahaha
Tacklewarehouse is better for regular bass fishing. The reel shot is good for ice fishing and great lake stuff. As for websites in person the reel shot shop is ok. It's only good bc it has brands other stored doesn't have. Like megabass
thanks for the support
@@MattStefanFishing I'll always support u man. Favorite pro
How about that H-grub on your icon (or what ever it is called)?
i forgot to talk about it hahah I did another video talking just about the hula grub that will be coming out soon. its one of my favorite baits for pressurred water.
@@MattStefanFishing Thanks, I just bought some to use when it gets warm enough.
Congrats on the move. As far as this video, the term ultra pressured is actually pressured. Ultra pressured is another level. Believe you me. For example, your wacky rig bait needs to be smaller. Even that hawg creature fishing is still too big and too unrealistic in color (solid). Topwater would be out completely for a number of reasons like just for having bigger hooks or profile or wider gaps between hooks or that top water means it is less pressured in general. The term pressured has many meanings. 1. Less fish. 2. It means small fish or less average fish 3. Picky fish. That said, I stand behind what I have said. In a nut shell, you're really looking at using crappie gear for big bass, but that's just for the lack of words. Anything small can be used....and I leave that to the imagination. If there's anyone who knows about these things. C'est moi. Je suis je suis. Oui, oui. The real dealers can't sell bunk.
thanks for watching
Was it intended to be sneaky and subtle that you showed a Hula Grub as the thumbnail picture but then didn't talk about it? :P
no i took the thumbnail and then forgot to talk about it. i love the hula grub. Im doing another video on it soon
Did I miss the part about the spider grub?
I totally forgot to mention it / I love hula grub on pressurred lakes. Its my favorite bait for fishing rock
@@MattStefanFishing thanks for the reply. Spider/hula grub isn't one I've ever had success with or that has given me much confidence. Which is why I clicked in the video. I'll try it around the rocks. I fish some Canadian Shield lakes where rock predominates, but those lakes eat jigs like popcorn.
How about a short video about how/where you rig and fish it? Football head? Weights, line etc.?
Masz u mnie plus + im ist (poland (polska) ,sory i dont right in american .Pozdrawiam Kris.
