How is he underrated? He was hands down the best male chinese lifter before Shi Zhiyong appeared.
His 166/193 @69kg is one of the best weightlifting performances in history. Not to mention his crazy 211kg clean and jerk attempt. It's just insane coincidence that the only guy who can surpass him is exactly his successor in his weight class.

This channel is awesome. I am not Chinese but find what lu and all the Chinese lifters have to say in regards to their techniques and training very insightful.
I have been getting into fitness and learning cleans and snatches. I am only at 15 kilos a side for front squats and working regularly on learning the pulls of the clean.
I recently saw a klokov training video from 7 or 8 years where he says Chinese lifters have smaller weaker legs so that influences your stance versus the russians. I don't know if that's true anatomically but I'd say that's not true at all today. You all have tree trunks for legs.
Thank you for being teachers. I am following your channel in order to learn how to become strong yoked. Wheymen.

Liao Hui is really one of the GOATs. Honestly, he could have performed better than Shi if he just had more motivation to continue lifting (politics happened? there is no reason to continue if you wont have a chance to go to the Olympics). Specially with the move from 69kg to 73kg in the new weight class, Liao Hui took a crack at the C&J world record of the 77kg weight category when he was just 73kg and he managed to clean it.

Drug ban in 12 was pretty political or so I’ve heard. He was very unlucky with the injury in 16 and after 17, Shi took over. I’d say he was neck and neck with Shi when he lost to Shi at 17 nationals but realistically, he didn’t have much prospect in 2020 when Shi is six years younger and he will be at a declining age of 34 while his competitor is at the prime age of 28. I still think Liao had the best form and he still has the highest Sinclair by Chinese. If he was lucky, he would have 3 Oly golds and many world championship golds which would make him the undeniable goat, but shit happens you know.
