    What fascinates me is that he finds one of the most basic tips in the snatch so helpful for himself. He probably learned that years ago. Yet, he still thinks about it and utilizes it. It really teaches you that the fundamentals are truly the most important thing in this beautiful sport. Awesome video.

    It doesn't make sense to change your grip width depending on the weight, why not just lift with the wider grip all the time? When the grip width is changed, your positions change, which makes the movement change. Obviously these guys are professionals, and their years of training allows them to be able to do things like this. However, I would highly discourage any Jo Schmo that watched this from doing this.

    • @tonyng9
      @tonyng9 3 роки тому +4

      The technique to get the heaviest weight up isn't always the most efficient technique. When dealing with very light weights like an empty barbell, you expend less energy power cleaning it than full cleaning it because the act of squatting your bodyweight down and up is wasteful. But if the weight you have is heavy enough that you cannot easily power clean it, then the full clean is more efficient. It may be the only way to get the weight up if it gets heavy enough. The same is likely true here. If they have power to spare, it's better to launch the bar higher and easily catch it in a narrow grip. If they cannot launch the bar high enough, they do it with a wider grip which gives them an extra inch of bar clearance, but then they have to use a crazy amount of strength to catch and stabilize the bar at the bottom. But I agree that ordinary people should not be trying this because they haven't even mastered one technique yet.

    • @bakarone

      @@tonyng9 "If they have power to spare, it's better to launch the bar higher and easily catch it in a narrow grip."
      why though? What would they lose if they use the wider grip even then? If the overhead position is no problem with a given weight, it shouldn't be a problem with a lighter weight than that AND they wouldn't have to compensate for the height loss. It may be a trade off that they would rather generate extra power to make the overhead position marginally easier but it doesn't sound like a universally applicable trade-off.

Remember the first interview with athletes on the team they had to sneak out to a hotel room. And I suspect they only got away with it or two reasons. They didn't say much, and they were currently winning oly medals.
      Lu has spoken once before and that was to a wl documentary. But all he did was lie lol. He said he was introduced to the sport at the age of 19 as a way of just doing general fitness and staying in shape and found his talent there. I can't believe the producers included it. Hilarious. At any rate. Medal winners gets funded for their efforts. They still have to abide by all rules (if there are any) or they could probably easily be cut off.

    I relate this to conventional vs sumo deadlifting. Widening of the placement means shorter distance. But you engage different muscles and have to be solid.
    I pull conventional normally, but can't even sumo half the weight.

    • @prathamkumar2755
      @prathamkumar2755 2 роки тому +1

      When we lift conventionally the bar has to cover more distance whereas in sumo the distance is much less. For me, it's the other way round, I lift much more while sumo deadlifting. The same applies when I do snatch deadlift. I think the narrower the grip the more you can lift (snatch it's a different thing) for example when Lu Clean and jerks he uses a narrower grip.

    • @fancyleaf
      @fancyleaf 3 роки тому +4

      A wider grip is more taxing on your fingers wrists and hands. For training, it is fine starting with a wider grip from lighter to heavier. For competitions, save it for your heaviest snatch, and that is exactly what Lu is talking about.

    That's a great idea for the muscle snatch. It's a light weight compared to other variations, so just going wider and getting that extra height on the bar automatically just from standing up means the bar is still going to be moving a bit faster during the turnover and press phase which is the main failure point of the muscle snatch. I wish I could go wider, I have basically the same grip as Lu despite being a lot bigger, because the wider I go, the harder it is to set up with a flat back.
