How I vacuum my pool with a sand filter

- Today I am vacuuming my pool for the second time this season. I use "waste" for a little because my pool is over full from all the rain. I show you step by step how to vacuum and then backwash and rinse your pump.

Good job! A good tip is to not worry about trying to suck up larger debris. Systematicly suck the smaller bits and you'll find this process will be quicker and less tedious. Any larger debris can be dipped out with your net.👍

What if you put a hose on the backwash and put the hose into the pool. And at the end of the hose put a sock so it collects the algae and dirt?

that part came with a skimmer I bought actually! I do not know why the vacuum stuff does not come with the atatchment. Im sorry I am not more help.

You should put a Hayward skimmer in I know it ruins the warranty on the pool but they work very well

I used pavers and one of the corners poked a big hold in the liner.I removed them an patched it.
Heres an easier way to get the air out of the hose. Once you connect to vacuum head and put it in the pool, hold the other end on the return so it pumps the water thru the hose. It will push all the air out for you.

@@HappyFarmsLa no problem. We all get used to a habit and I started doing it the way you do until I saw a video on here. You also should look into installing a Hayward skimmer next season before you fill pool up again. Makes vacuuming 100x easier. Buy skimmer socks to put in basket and it catches everything as you vacuum
@@slamdhatch1150 hey. So I’m Sven and I tried this way too. It does work and it blows air out but when you have much fine particles on the bottom then the water from the return may blow all the sand and things you wanna vacuum up in the water so I rather stick to the other way so my debris and everything what’s on the bottom stays there.

What filter system do you have? It’s my first time owning a pool. It’s something like yours and it only came with a small cartridge filter system. I need something bigger better and that will vacuum sand and dirt out of the bottom.

oh good eye. that I think came with a skimmer I bought and never set up. it is silly the vacuum hose doesn't come with an adapter. I am sorry I can't be more help.

What salt cell are you using? The only ones I see are the big clunky white boxes that sit beside the sand filter, this looks like it connects to the discharge line off of the sand filter…..

I have the hardest time cleaning my pool and I notice I don’t have enough suction so you know wha tit could possibly be?

What if you have a heater and forgot to turn it off when you attached everything and then air got into the sand filter and there is no suction. Do you do a backwash??
air in the filter, sorry slow response. i would try backwash yes, i am not an expert!
When doing this do you need to close the outlet that throws water back into the pool?
No, you can run it on regular, I use "waste" if my pool is full and the water goes out on the ground, but normally im running it on filter and the sand is filtering, just make sure to run it on "backwash" for 30 secs and then "rinse" for 15 after doing the cleaning.
Is there a way to do that without draining the water? Or does it have to be on the waste setting?
No, that is just to begin for me because my pool is full. A little further in the video I turn it to filter and finish vacuuming, just be sure to "backwash" and "rinse" after vacuuming. (at end of video I show this) thanks for watching.

No you don’t want to vacuum on backwash. That is for cleaning it out. You can vacc on filter. And backwash after to clean out the sand

Hi, this pool is salt water with a salt to chlorine converter. That helps it stay clean without adding chemicals. You have the same filter but you feel the suction is low? Hmmmm... might need to check all the connections make sure they are tight and there are no leaks. sorry that is the best I can say to help you.
How do I get my filtration system to flow like your I have no suction
How strong is your pump? Do you have two outlets sucking water from the pool? If your pump isn’t very strong, you may need to cap one of the suction hose to get more section from the other one. I hope that makes sense.
Hi thanks I have a summer wave just a skimmer and one port it is a 2100 sand filter.

In all serious though, can you just vacuum it and have it go into the pump or does it have to "waste" the water every time you vacuum.
That’s funny because today I took the metal pole off and got inside and vacuumed it yes ha ha. No I only vacuum on waste when the pool is extra full usually I just use the filter to vacuum just make sure you backwash it afterwards and rinse like a show at the end of the video. It should not go back in the pool. I vacuum on filter- that sounds like an issue with your filter, is it new? Does it have enough sand in it?

Hi, my pool has been milk cloudy for two weeks. I went to pool supplies store and they told me to do this.I’ve tried shock, chlorinating liquid,earth and let the pump runs 24 hrs. And also vacuum too. But the cloudy water still the same. Please help me, what I did wrong and what I didn’t do to fix my pool.
I don't know, I am sorry! might have to drain it and re-fill? I know that is not ideal but I am no pool expert. I hope you can get it clear.
@Adriana Lopez My pool water was the same I got a bottle of hth drop out from Walmart ran the pump for 2 hrs and then pour the drop out evenly thru the pool (read instructions to make sure how much product you have to used in your pool)wait 24 hrs and you will be able to see all the fine particles have drop to the pool floor

buy the clorox clcrazy clarifier 1 gallon. It worked over night. then will vac the stuff on bottom. After psending 300 this clorox was 17
Check the pH level and maybe adjust with pH minus
You need to remove that intake brittle thats built in so stuff doesn't get stuck
How do you remove that and will the screw on adapter still screw on??
You can vacuum without the pump. Put hose compleetly under water put your hand on the hose and put it inmiddidly over the pool. The water is now flozting without the pump.

No like I said I only vacuum on waste when the pool is overfilled from rain and needs a little draining

filter most of the time, at the very start I sometimes use "waste" if the pool is full from rain and I have some extra water I pump the yucky stuff right out.

My pool is green what am i doing wrong
How long are you running the pump? I put my liquid chlorine in at night. Sounds like you need to shock it (high chlorine dose overnight and run filter for 24 hours.)
I don’t have a backwash hose that is long and my water goes everywhere
Yeah, I wish I had an even longer one so I didn’t flood my little area
So I didn’t have a backwash hose for 3 years lol. I was just shooting water out the filter waste port and like 2 months ago I ordered and got a hose. Not much of a help to me but yeah I have a sewage line and I would like to get more of those and set it in the sewer.
If you have a round pool, run around in circles in the water and all the loose gunk collects in the middle for easier cleanup.

@@HappyFarmsLa when I had my last round pool, I actually dug out a fifteen inch depression in the middle for the “run in circles trick”. Helped keep things in there. I just set up an oval pool so not sure what I’m up against. I appreciate your videos. Waiting for parts to upgrade to a bigger sand filter from my new Costco best way pool.

do you mean the sand that has come from your filter? if so, I do try to vacuum that up, yes, but sometimes it comes right back in, it isn't supposed to come out of the filter. May be an issue inside your filter...but I just don't worry too much about a little sand... just pretend i'm at the beach.
