      @@TheThanatos34 well, he still has good strategies, his only issue is that he is underestimating mortals. And if Tav doesn't agree with Karlach to go to hells and destroy the contract, his plan about the crown would have become true. And a fight with him can be pretty tough since he has 666 hp and can cast ultimately strong spells, that can't be counterspelled. See, the fundamental issue with critiquing Gale in this ending is that he doesn't actually change all that much in his ascension to godhood. His personality is still relatively similar to his original personality, and Mystra is herself a fundamentally flawed deity. You only have to look at how many times she's gotten herself killed and screwed over magic across the realms because she lacked the ability to conceive of needing to put failsafes in place to keep magic running. She built the entire magic system and then didn't think, 'Hey, maybe I should set up some ways to keep this running if something happens to me.'
    She did eventually get around to creating Weave Anchors after her third death and the Spellplague, but the fact that it literally took her dying three times to actually finally get off her ass and come up with a way to keep magic from spiraling out of control should tell you just how monumentally bad Mystra is at being a god. Beyond that, she has archetypically always been highly abusive towards her lovers, and makes no moves to interfere with any evil-doers utilizing her powers for their own ends. While yes, she's a neutral deity, she fundamentally has to understand that letting evil people run rampant with her powers inevitably going to result in problems for her personally.
    They literally had to introduce new forms of 'evil' magic into the setting that didn't originally exist in order to create literally any conflict with Mystra and other magical entities, because she cared that little what evil people did with her magic. The Shadow Weave, and Karsite Weave are both key examples of Forgotten Realm authors having to create a new evil magic to literally introduce any conflict into Mystra as a character having a problem with anyone. So no, I absolutely don't trust Mystra with the crown anymore than I trust Gale with it. The fact that there isn't a version where you say, 'Fuck it, I'm taking the crown from your both and breaking that shit so no one can have it' is baffling to me.

      It's important to note until the latest incarnation each goddess of Magic is completely separate entity rather than same continuous being: Mystryl, Mystra (a Netherise Peasant) and Midnight. The current Mystra (Midnight) only received memories of the others after her 'death' and restoration in aftermath of the Spellplague. You could argue that Midnight should have learned from her predecessors but she did learn from her own death.

      When the tressym thinks it knows better than you, Giving the crown to mystra would be a mistake; unlocking dreadful potential in her portfolio I wouldn’t trust the Goddess of Magic with, especially how she groomed Gale and sees mortals as mere pawn pieces to move on a board.
      Giving the crown to rapheal would basically be giving the crown back to the hells and revert things to a status quo, No way is Rapheal powerful enough to conquer the 9 hells let Alone the Arch-devil of the 9 hells (Who is also a greater Deity)
      If mephistopheles the arch devil had the crown for that many millennia and relegated it to a vault why does a mere Cambion believe that he would fare any better with it, it’s the flaw of Devils.
      In no way is giving the crown to Gale a definitive Good choice as he can use his godhood for mostly whatever reason still he’s very limited when it comes to interference and he understands that Lord Ao could easily smite him or his godhood for overstepping bounds.
      So yes I’d rather entrust the power of the crown to the person who can put it to best use/Rather have a new lesser God than see Mystra gain dreadful power and use it on top pf her own to destabilize the cosmic balance;
      Not to mention it’s the only option where a trusted friend/ally gets control of the crown rather than an unfeeling apathetic goddess or a two faced Cambion that intends to conquer my world and others after his own.
      In this case as well you have The neutral God of Ambition beginning to challenge the authority of the evil God Of strife and Tyranny in Thay;
      Bane is another pain in the ass and the only member of the dead 3 who basically has a functioning church (Church of Bhaal-Myrkul destroyed)
      Bane isn’t the type of God to go away easily especially by mortals hands, having a new neutrally aligned God Opposing an Evil for influence is the only way I can definitively trust that Bane’s Power/Worshippers whittle away; Itd be all the more easier seeing as bane isn’t a full deity, merely a quasi-deity with a Stagnant/Withering church contending with a Newly Ascended God and his Ever growing church.

      @@korgclips868Seems like you dont undestand Mystra and her background (particularly this incarnation) or the other endings. The game make it VERY VERY clear that Gale ascending is a bad ending - just like every single character ascension ending is a bad ending in BG3. And on the flip side, the game makes it abundantly clear that giving the crown to Mystra is the good ending/decision.
      She didnt even "groom" Gale, thats such bullshit. He started studying under her when he was nearly 18 and was MUCH older by the time anything happened between them. If anything, he was the one who betrayed her trust. All this nonsense about grooming tells me you also dont know what "grooming" means either

    • @ettaetta439
      @ettaetta439 10 місяців тому +32

      @@theemeraldhourThis is a fantasy game wherein Mystra is thousands of years old. Gale being barely 18 or even 26, does not make him equal to Mystra. Mystra was his goddess, his teacher, his superior. That would make him her student, her inferior, and a mortal. He was subject to her every whim. Even without taking his age into consideration, they have a complete power imbalance. Teacher/student relationships, and boss/employee relationships are illegal for a reason.
      However, when we take his age into consideration, it still matters. Grooming is about the abuse of power to get someone less experienced and way younger than you than you to be totally dependent on you, so you can extract things you want from them such as sex and work. In real life, the reason grooming is seen and defined as adults grooming children is because there are no multiple century-old age gaps in which an adult can groom another adult. In this case, it is a fantasy world, so the definition of grooming can apply here too in a way it doesn't work in real life. Mystra groomed him, because she is thousands of years old, and he is but a child compared to her. Because there is such a humongous age gap, it is possible.
      And lastly, Mystra being a groomer who took advantage of a student-teacher relationship has nothing to do with whether she'd be a good fit for the crown or not. Focus on that, because I genuinely would like to hear counterarguments as to why Mystra is a good option. I agree that most character ascensions are framed as a bad thing, and I haven't quite gotten to this part of Act 3, so I want to know what to do when this choice comes.

    • @Dan-vo7vc
      @Dan-vo7vc 10 місяців тому +15

      @theemeraldhour I just don't understand *why* this is a "bad" ending; Mystra is also neutral, and was similarly mortal before ascending. Hell, she was friends with Cyric. If gods aren't infinitely virtuous and wise, but merely level 21s, I just don't get the problem. The game does tell us that power for power's sake is bad, and I generally agree with that message... but Mystra wanted Gale to off himself, which would have taken him away from his loved ones just the same. She also doesn't need the power, as a greater deity, already.

      I'm not that thick in theory since the game doesn't have my first language translated. But i do think this ending the whole Gale ,God of ambition unique dialouge trying to tell everyone and anyone that ever witness him in this party to join his prayer,Turns Tara into a hairless cat while she's about to leave him. It doesn't do any harm to the big picture. but one thing about this that hurting me so much is how lonely he will be after this party. In this Origin case.
      If Tav got this God Gale ending and joining with him, It will be somewhat bitter sweet ending, Tav become god at his side. He won't be lonely, the most predictable bad future is some demon come knocking at the elysium. while the heaven scene we see was nice. The other one which he just an odinary man, is much more happier than this. Tara invite Tav for meeting his mom, Gale accepts that sometimes small happinest is more valuable than god hood.
      I did all the god route just to know what he will become, but if what the most canon thing is what us belive what it is? This isn't it.

    For everyone who thinks that this can be considered a good ending ... listen what Raphael has to say about Gale's ascension to godhood.
    On a separate note. Look at what happens when people (or NPCs in BG3) put their ambitions on a pedestal. Dekarios is not a god of hope, patience, hard work or resilience.

    • @exantiuse497
      @exantiuse497 9 місяців тому +70

      There's no reason to believe that is what will happen. Raphael is just pushing smoke up his own ass there. The dude has more hubris than Gale; he isn't even a real devil - he's a cambion, a half-fiend - and yet he acts like the king of the world (or hell in this case). You can argue whether Gale ascending is good or bad but Raphael's prediction should play no role in that discussion

      @@exantiuse497 oh, but he has.
      You see, it's his main occupation to plot and recognise potential for disaster. Weaknesses of mortals are his specialty. _Ambition_ is one of those weaknesses. It drives people to give up their values and sell their souls, figuratively speaking (or quite literally if we're talking about D&D and other magical universes). Obviously, with a God of Ambition you no longer need to turn to a devil for favours. But honestly, perhaps having some ambitions being infinitely blessed and strengthened by a God of Ambition is far worse than the most vile pact with a devil. Generally, it should give you something to think when a god grants you similar perks as a devil.
      I agree with you, Raphael has a rather inflated understanding of his powers, particularly compared to gods. But I trust him to know under which circumstances things start to go south, and him being gleeful about Gale's Ascension is a red flag.
      No. Raphael is not what makes me say God Gale ain't a "good ending". God of Ambition enabling mortals to do something catastrophically disastrous is what I'm worried about. Or God of Ambition getting ambitious and making a mess on a multi-realm level, causing either some form of massive Apocalypse or a Ragnarok-like scenario ... that's more like it. Raphael's initial plan took place during the Grand Design disaster, so whatever disaster he expects to rise from Dekarios' Divinity must be of a similar scale, if not worse.

    Gale claims to be the god of ambition, but he strikes me more as being driven by a hunger for power. That is what separated him from Mystra. He wanted her to reveal more secrets, give him more power, and almost ruined himself with a Netheril artifact. Being Mystra's lover wasn't good enough for him, he wanted her to grant him more power when she was trying to protect him. Ambition isn't necessarily a bad thing, per se, but Gale won't remain content with his domain. It'll just be a matter of time before he starts trying to take more domains, probably going after Mystra first. It'll be like the Avatar war all over again.

    That's a bit disappointing. At least enough to hear him out. It also bugs me that there is such a weird hostility to the idea of a mortal becoming a god even though most of the gods started that way - including Mystra.
    Also odd that so many (even here, in the comments) are comparing gale ascending to godhood to Karsus. Certainly if Gale chose to attack Mystra, that would make sense, but if he just chose to do his own thing it doesn't. Karsus tried to steal divinity from Mystra, not achieve it on his own.

    Personally i think Gale ascension is neutral-positive ending.
    Neutral part is him becoming God of Ambition not good and not a bad thing by itself.However under domain influence it can eventually led equally likely to both positive and negative results.
    Positive part is if you romance Gale as Tev and have enough faith in your character.Which is quite arbitrary, but still.
    Problem is divine realm and gods in generall during events of game did practically nothing despite facing a threat such as Absolute.
    And who knows what can happen in future, so better count only on yourself which means gaining as much power as possible if that power comes with minimal consequences both in short and long perspective.
    Godhood is quite universal source of power because it divided by ranks. So if you want be even mightier you can be, but this will lead to certain consequences (likely bad), and if you don't want you still will have practically unlimited lifespan for your plans , instead of like century or millenia at max.

      A huge problem (based on what little I know of Forgotten Realms lore so take this with a grain of salt) is that gods struggle to see the world in other perspectives outside of their domain. So while human Gale might have originally thought he could use godly powers for good, as a god he may (eventually) lose the ability to even determine good from evil. All he would see are great, ambitious acts, and mediocre contentment. He wouldn't _become_ evil, but as the God of Ambition, he might fuel it.
      But he might not. Maybe he'd hold onto his desire to do good. After all, in order to become Ambition he had to put aside some of his greatest desires (control over the Weave and maybe a little bit of revenge against Mystra) to not just try to take Mystra's realm from her and instead claim his own, maybe as a god he'd still appreciate the difference between wanting success versus power. Maybe as a god he would try to avoid what Mystra does, since her magic fuels evil as much as it does good - he does seem to try to learn from Mystra's mistakes with how he interacts with a romanced Tav and tries to keep them safe from unintended manipulation. But as far as Tara knows, Gale has given everything up for power.

      It's to stop a 'war in heaven' thing from kicking off; that's why Selune doesn't just go get Nightsong herself, assuming she even knows where they are. They have to use agents, proxies and avatars which are all nowhere near as powerful as the divine. The last time divine beings (the dead three) started something Ao took every god's divinity (except helm iirc, because he had to guard something) and made them mortal. Ao is kept very vague but afaik the general interpretation is Ao is effectively the stand in/avatar for a DM.

      @@TheThanatos34Ever since Mystra became a Goddess, she's been dead like 75% of the time. She only was restored around 10 years before the game starts, so not sure where the grooming comes from, because Gale sounds closer to 40 than 20. And if you talk about Minsc's comments, he is from Rashemen, ruled by a bunch of witches, and does not seem to have the mental capacity to understand that Mystra is not one of the Wychlaran witches, so he makes up something he believes is true.
