Gale still has free will as a god, Astarion because an evil menace to be slayed. Being a god is never bad in RPG settings like Forgotten Realms or Golarion. It is only ever good. That's the flaw with writing it as bad, literally every time someone becomes a god and is successful in that part it's only good for that person from then on. Bane, Bhaal, Mystra, Iomedea, etc. Mystra acting like it's a mistake is hugely ironic.

Should be a option to turn yourself back into a human and nice your a god or decide to stay ilithid
I got regular God Gale and couldn't find Tara :(
Gale is dead. That's his tadpole all grown up, having taken over his body, memories, magic, and later, godhood granted by the Crown of Karsus and (presumably) the gems.
Thats what I thought too, and yet fans and even ingame characters seem to think becoming a squid is just "a new form"
Are they confused or is the games lore just confused in general?
@@syruscoy1244 They just want him and anyone else who has been ceremorphosized to live.
@@Aristocles22 no they played the game. U however didn't and are only going off of normal mindflayer logic.
@@calvintyler9281 And what three different gods in the game said.
@@Aristocles22 jergal literally says the player character is themselves. Same with Orpheus. The narrator also says "you are still you". None of the mindflayer stuff in this game is natural so the rules are different.
So I presume the only Gale that Tara will approve of is a Gale that is neither god nor illithid?
Some of y’all in the comments really need therapy. Y’all don’t see why godhood is bad for gale the same way some of y’all don’t see Ascension as bad for astarion.
Neither characters excepted themselves or their flaws and used power to cover up their insecurities.
I wouldn't compare gale becoming kind of an asshole after putting on a crown vs astarion sacrificing all the people he victimized over 200 years which would include all the children he kidnapped because of his crippling fear of being controlled and his hypocrisy.
Are we really gonna act like we wouldn't become a god given the chance?
Saying people "really need therapy" because of their decisions in a fantasy RPG is a sign you need to touch grass. But sure, enjoy your moral high ground. 😭
also, "accepted" not "expected."
How are you comparing a blindly ambitious human acquiring divinity to an insecure manbaby embracing corruption by hijacking a ritual that required thousands of innocent tortured souls?
Why can't mindflayer god gale return his form? Is he stoopid?
Fun fact, Cyric is the bid if ambition.
Where is the cat
The only thing worse than god gale is god mindflayer gale.
how about him following mystra's command and destroy his own soul?
God mindflayer Gale is the objectively best possible outcome
Wow, not 30 seconds in and I already don't like Mystra. I haven't even played the game since I got halfway through Act 3, I'll have to go back to see if I can beat it and get to the epilogue stuff.
Ariel Manx AKA “Midnight” bearer of Mystra’s Trust, AKA Mystra 2.0 was never that much of a B1t(h.
its so wierd how the game paints god gale as a bad decision without the proper legwork before that. Imo there literally isnt anything better then godhood in the dnd setting
Godhood is definitely not a good thing. Just as soon as he becomes a god does he lose his humanity and any real conection to the world.
To be fair, Gale specifically attaining godhood is the worst possible thing for his character arc
Losing your humanity viewing mortals as playthings power sources or food and of course eventually becoming amoral. Gods that were once mortal are all pretty shitty.
@@TrixyTrixterhis connection is the ambition of mortals, just like Moradin’s connection is their inventiveness. They are responsible for aspects of the universe, but that doesn’t make them worse than mortals. Being an illithid has more to do with that than godhood
@@TrixyTrixter Like Mystra did... oh wait shes still having relationships and banging humans like gale.
Okay, I am confused. I thought in DnD you did when you become an Illithid and it’s just the parasite fully grown using your body as fuel? Or is it a little different where you just become an Illithid but aren’t hive minded?
A mixture of a special tadpole, Orpheus's/Emperor's lingering protection, and the death of the elder brain to control you. This is referenced if the character you're playing becomes a mind flayer, during the cutscenes right after the battle you'll get options that allude to the possibility of completely losing the person you used to be.
@@grillmadeofrecycledgrenade3197 Which is interestingly contradicted by a post credits scene with Withers if you pursue a certain choice.
@@MrRawrCEO which honestly could be explained by the netherese magic fundamentally changing the process with these tadpoles.
@@fireblast133 It would be a little funny if the whole "deny gods the souls of their worshippers" part of the plan didn't even work because the modified brain + tadpoles ended up creating mind flayers with souls, but it would be in line with the Dead Three being dumb.
@@SwordThatCleavesEvil Not just Three Gods. Their Champions didn't have everything under control either. And since the whole "Absolute" plan belongs to Dark Urge(canonical protagonist, meaning player character) this stupidity is our fault
Tara is so judgmental
Yeah nothing more vulgar than being a god. Lmao.
I know, completely debased! How dare Gale succeed at ascension.
i mean, the gods weren't very great, were they?
@@saal0 Depends on the deity. Mystra is lawful neutral and the goddess of magic, it's not in her purview to satisfy the morality of mortals. Selune is a good goddess and she isn't so bad. Keep in mind, we're discussing a world where almost all divine magic is granted by the gods, that means all healthcare is basically from the gods of the realm. I don't know that I'd say the gods weren't very great, it just depends on the deity.
so can gale actually give up Godhood?
No
In game? no, in lore, yes
Theoretically yes, practically no. After permanently cutting ties with Mystra why would he want to go back to being a normie?
bad kitty
These arent even roasts its just a cat with an opinion

this is the worst of the worst endings for gale, death is a better ending then this.

Tara is example of toxic friend. Who can't be happy for his friend's success but leaches in his misery.
Oh yeah, like how she spent an entire year doing everything she could to keep the orb fed so he could survive, begs him to not to give up the best parts of himself, and is absolutely devastated when she learns that Mystra ordered him to kill himself. She totally LOVES when he's miserable. 🙄 Gale becoming a god ISN'T a good ending for Gale and Tara being disappointed in him for doing it is the response of a GOOD FRIEND. I despise this cat-thing. Gale achieves something absolutely incredible, defies a doom that was rapidly encroaching on him, and yet this thing has nothing but scorn and contempt for his efforts and achievement. I'd polymorph it into a rat, that'd fit.
So thankful for these clips showing me how much worse this game got after I quit playing it.
"You will feel the wrath of a true god"? Honey, you're aren't a "true god" you were a MORTAL like Gale that was given divinity by Ao to maintain the balance and to replace the true goddess of magic that was Mystryl/Mystra. Did Larian again forget the actual lore of the game? What a joke. Almost as big a joke as the third act's convoluted mess of a narrative.
That makes no difference in terms of power.
Mystra is still a greater deity.
@@RoosSkywalker I know but still she's sounding like a massive hypocrite in this scene. It's still in line with her character I suppose given this is the same Greater Karen who barred Cyric and his followers from the Weave at one point because their history when they were mortals till she got put in her place when called out on it during Cyric's celestial trial and was forced to allow him access to it.
She is a hypocrite... That's kinda the entire point of Gale's arc. Rising above the manipulations of Mystra.
She still is the most powerful of all gods.
Actually, the Goddess of Magic that Midnight replaced was once a mortal too. She was a peasant girl who ascended when Mystryl, the original Goddess of Magic, died. And I'd like to add that Mystryl, again the original Goddess of Magic, died when she sacrificed herself to save the Weave when Karsus was fucking it up. Karsus, whose ambitions led him, the Netherese empire (which he sought to save), the Goddess of Magic and nearly magic itself to ruin. Karsus, whose power Gale has now taken for himself to become a god himself, a god of ambition of all things. Now, I'd be the last person to say that Mystra has done no wrong when it comes to Gale, but her being pissy here and saying to Gale whatever she thinks she needs to so he won't repeat the very history that led to the original Goddess of Magic having to sacrifice herself to save magic itself... I can't say I blame her.
