I was expecting a bashing against the Catholic side of things as that seems to be the norm but this video represents the very best of the Catholic side and shows the authenticity that does exist even though many monastic houses have abandoned it. This is truly a good video but I'm confused as to the point. Is it just to show how both practice prayer and ascetic life? Then great!

After reading the comments on this thread, I must say that I see Catholics condemning Orthodox and vice versa. This is sad. What we see are two cultural traditions, both founded and operating under apostolic succession. Many of the commentators are making false statements about the beliefs and practices of the others. I was born into and raised in the Orthodox Church and those rituals portrayed in this video were more familiar to me, however I respect those of the Catholic Church, even Novus Ordo, when they are prayed in earnest by believers seeking to communicate with God. The God I know and believe in would certainly accept heartfelt prayers of any believer -- no matter what the liturgical tradition or diocesan affiliation.

Brothers, we do not need to emphasize the differences between these two churches. We should focus on how they are related and was once a whole. In all fairness, there have been efforts made recently to somehow unify the two. What is more important is that we remain faithful to the Gospel of Jesus. The main problem with us is that we tend to be too dogmatic when it comes to these things. Sabbath was made for men and not men for Sabbath. A clean and contrite heart is much pleasing to the Lord than any burnt offerings. God bless us all!

Though the church was ultra modern, it still exuded the traditional piety of the people, for example, the floor was thoroughly blanketed in rose petals and the the devotion was palpable. Upon returning to America, EVERYTHING seemed fake, sterile, and plastic. ☦Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on this country. We need a REAL spiritual awakening. Go to a Catholic church that offers the ancient Tridentine Mass and you will see a liturgy on par with an Orthodox liturgy. It will have a vertical dimension, and there will be no talk about social action and other mundane matters in the sermon. (There are other venues for that.) You will notice that people behave devoutly, and dress respectably, and all of your senses will be "assaulted" and employed in Divine worship, by incense, chant, beautiful vestments, colors, etc. The Mass in the west was as "orthodox" as the Byzantine rite was in the east before the schism in 1054 AD. For this reason there are groups of western Orthodox Christians today who identify as Orthodox, but who use Catholic liturgy of the west.

But both are clearly conveyed as ascetic. the first thing that needs to be clarified is that there is not something called Orthodox Church, there are many Orthodox churches, for example in Ukraine there are 3 rival Orthodox churches ... and there are many Orthodox churches that do not recognize each other, for example the Orthodox Church in America has no recognition .. As a roman catholic, i have the utmost love and admiration for our orthodox brothers. but their incessant paranoid - searching every shadow for a Catholic plot to get them - is really getting on my nerves. they have grand and elegant liturgy like the pharisees. but their hearts are vengeful and hateful against the catholics. where is the love of Christ ? they use dogma and doctrine to justify their hatred. they quote history and the fall of constantinople to hate all roman catholics. Eastern Orthodox churches have nothing to do with eg Egyptian Copts or Ethiopians or Apostolic Armenians ..
that is, you can not compare 2 things when one of the 2 has no unity or unique doctrine .. The problem of the Orthodox churches are their national divisions, each one that creates a new country, creates a new doctrine that clashes with all the previous..example is Abkhazia that now clashes with the Orthodox Church of Georgia ..
the catholic church has a single leader and a single doctrine no matter how many countries they believe is the same authority in the whole world: the pope in rome. This can authorize various rites and dioceses and eparchies but maintaining the same unit of 20 centuries ..

Propagandistic way of look against Orthodox Life.
What exactly is propagandistic about it? The video shows the beauty and sanctity of both Western and Eastern monasticism.
You dont show the same scenes from the Orthodox monastic life with the Papic.
Your point being? The monastic life of the East and West is different. No Westerner watching this would get the impression that this is anti-Orthodox. Despite what you may think, we aren't actually out to get you guys, there's no grand plot against the East. We actually like you. :)

As a roman catholic, i have the utmost love and admiration for our orthodox brothers. but their incessant paranoid - searching every shadow for a Catholic plot to get them - is really getting on my nerves. they have grand and elegant liturgy like the pharisees. but their hearts are vengeful and hateful against the catholics. where is the love of Christ ? they use dogma and doctrine to justify their hatred. they quote history and the fall of constantinople to hate all roman catholics. They are like the annoying sibling brother for whom i will give my life, but could never understand why he hates me so. during debates the muslims quote me the examples of fights between the orthodox churches themselves. forget ecumenism guys. Only when the Lord returns these guys will change.
