  • A common issue on Jeep JK's is a Transmission Pan that rusts and begins to leak. This video walks you through the steps required to remove and replace the Transmission Plan. While this process in itself is not difficult, there are challenges due to the design which results in a high risk of bolts snapping. Normally I would say this is a beginner to intermediate difficulty level, with the additional challenges I would rate a intermediate to difficult.

I have to do one in a grand cherokee. I'm gonna drill my own drain hole in the side corner. It will be alot cleaner, that oil goes erverywhere. I'm with you, getting the one with the drain, and spray bomb it good with some black rustoleum

What did they bathe that pan in hydrochloric acid ? Wow. I don’t understand why the NAG1 uses such a shallow pan. It’s a great trans, more than capable for the 3.6, but that pan is so shallow, so hard to extract fluid from the dipstick tube, I never get more thst 2 quarts with a pump extractor, and wish they factory installed a drain plug. No leaking from the drain plug ? I was thinking about getting that pan when I do my first drop at 60-70K miles, in the meantime I suck out and replace 2 quarts of ATF+4 with every other oil change, so I’ve done 10 oil changes (5K), so probably replaced 8-10 quarts by now. I have a 2010 JK Rubicon and a 2016 JKU 75th Anniversary Edition, both around 59k miles, different drive trains, but same lubricants. I buy Mopar ATF+4 in bulk and use Pennzoil Ultra Synthetic with Mopar or K&N oil filters and Mopar 80W90 gear oil for the diffs (every 20k) and ATF+4 for the transfer case (every 20k).
