I don’t always wear a belt either. I am short waisted and some belts cut me off too much. I am in my seventies and I wear clothing with shiny buttons. I never even thought about bring too old for shiny buttons. I guess I am too old to follow some of the fashion rules or I am too old to care. Wear what you are comfortable in and what makes you happy. That is my fashion rule now. Love that green sweater on you. All the outfits were lovely.

I think that belt “rule” is completely outdated, much like the old rule abiut not wearing white after Labor Day and not before Labor Day.
As for the shiny metallic buttons, that one of the strangest things I’ve ever heard, and it’s a new one on me. If we went by that, I guess we shouldn’t wear our gold or silver jewelry either. 😅
I’ll be 61 in April, and I wear a belt when I think it adds to the outfit. Also, I’m not giving up my metallic buttons or my gold & silver jewelry. Keep on being you, Serena!

My style role model was Iris Apfel, not because of what she wore but because she had her own style and the confidence to be herself. I doubt she cared what anyone said about what she wore and she was 102. No one is too old to wear whatever they want. I hope to regain the confidence of my youth in my fun color pairings and accessories.

The comments about the shiny buttons is a new one - I have NEVER heard that one before. And the belts, I don't give much weight to "fashion rules"; they're guidelines at best. That said, if I really don't feel like wearing a belt, I don't. If I want to wear an outfit made of nothing but shiny buttons, I will. 😆✨

You picked some very nice items for this video...clothes and Vivaia shoes! To answer your questions...no I don't always wear a belt even if the belt loops are showing when I tuck my shirt in. I personally don't think a belt must be worn...whether I tuck in my shirt or not when wearing pants with belt loops. As for the second...I have never heard anyone say anything about shiny metallic buttons not being appropriate after a certain age...that's a new one for me! I say wear what you want. I loved the jeans with the buttons, and , NO, you and anyone in our age group is not too old to wear decorative buttons on clothing. They add interest and detail to what might be otherwise an ordinary pair of jeans. ❤️👍 Also, I think a belt is optional. If you want to show off your waist or add color/detail to an outfit, belts are necessary; otherwise, their addition is a matter of personal preference and “design instinct.” You do a wonderful job in orchestrating your videos, and I always look forward to seeing new items! We are never to old to wear shiny buttons. Wear a belt if you want to or not. I think some gals lack the confidence to wear what they really want to, or believe certain styles are only for the young and slim. Confidence goes a long way. Love your videos, Serena. I also love Oralia Martinez. She is a plus size petite personal stylist, and boy, does she exude confidence. I'm not plus size, but in my old age, have developed a tummy below my navel. Would never have dreamed of tucking in a shirt or sweater, but now I do, thanks to Oralia. Trying to hide my tummy behind long tops is far less flattering than doing some kind of tuck, be it full or half.

I'm 60, 5'2", size 16.....I wear anything that I love and that fits my body. I rarely wear belts with jeans. I certainly love buttons on classic pieces! I do have to be careful of proportions and design since I am a round shape body! I embrace color but am careful when choosing prints. Love your channel. Love your advice. Keep it coming.

That is HILARIOUS! Too old for silver buttons. Hysterically funny. I'm older and I have NEVER heard cant wear silver buttons when you hit 60. FYI. Turning 60 in about 6 months and I darn sure will wear any kind of button I feel like. Yes just put on the bling. Dress the way you feel good about yourself. I love color and some times that plain black or blue dress or suit needs a pop of color. Bring on the red and hot pink. I love it.. The bottom is always a statement piece on your jacket. Ignore these people. You have class.

I’m retired so I mostly wear a casual capsule wardrobe- jeans, leggings, good T shirts, denim and cotton shirts and sweaters and dressier things for church . I get so tired of hearing what older ladies shouldn’t wear and those commercials saying no makeup over 50 except those boom sticks ! You are so much fun! You do not have to wear a belt with pants just because they have belt loops, especially if they are jeans. I think its more about how you want to style them, and what is most flattering for your figure. About the age related thing....please! There is no cut off age for wearing stylish clothes with stylish details!!!!
Great video today! As for the button comment, that is a personal choice. If you want them, wear them; if not, don't wear them. I think the buttoned outfits were great! I'm on the fence about belts. I read once that if pants or jeans have belt loops, you should wear a belt. But, I hate tucking in a shirt, so I don't wear a belt unless I'm forced to tuck in my shirt. Keep up the great work!!!!!

My favorite item was the fringe trim jacket…that is a very classy look with jeans and boots (my favorite outfit).
My least favorite is the navy chinos…I don’t know why but whenever I see navy pants or jackets, I cringe 😬 probably an unpleasant association from childhood 😂
I wish I could buy more items but I love that you give us some direction to put together a basic wardrobe. It’s always great when you can mix and match some of these pieces to create a new outfit. Footwear and jackets are my favorite layers.
I never wear a belt with jeans, and that person who said that the blazer with the silver button was to flashy for older women. She need to speak for herself because those are just buttons. If you think old you’re going to be old with old ways!
For me personally, I’m not a fan of belts most of the time, so count me in the bare belt loops club. I’m also short waisted. As for the shiny buttons, they are ageless and can often act as a sort of jewelry. Loved all your outfits-so classy!

The outfits all looked super cute on you. The blue and white striped shirt was so pretty, especially with your gorgeous baby blues. I never wear belts with my jeans. As far as shiny buttons, I never really thought about it, but I don’t think a person’s age should stop someone from wearing shiny buttons, if they want to. Thanks Serena for another great video.

Hi Serena. I am petite like you and I have a short waist. I very rarely wear belts. I think a belt can be very uncomfortable. The lady who commented on the shiny buttons must not have a life! You shop at some of the same places I do like J Crew Factory and I like the classics with some trendy items on occasion. Life is too short and just be yourself. I love your channel!

Difficult to decide which outfit I prefer. Such beautiful pieces you showed today: that striped blue blouse and that gorgeous satin blouse. Also loved those Spanx wide leg pants, so elegant and flattering and that grey jacket 👌. The Vivia shoes I would all purchase but I hesitate to buy shoes on line. I just recently started to wear belts and that is thanks to you, tucking sweaters and blouses to show the hips that I usually preferred to cover. But wearing or not a belt depends on the suit (sometimes it adds a little pop, sometimes not required). I also have a short body so, with a dress, I will sometimes use a loose belt that comes down below the hips to elongate. I think women can wear whatever they want at whatever age if it makes them look good. Anyways I have learned a lot on fashion since I watch your channel. I think some people are pulling your leg or living in the past. I rarely wear a belt with jeans. And unless your religion doesn’t allow buttons then wear any kind you want.😂
I used to think that if your pants had belt loops, you should wear a belt, but I have seen women wear pants without belts, and I have since changed my mind. I didn't think that not wearing a belt took away from how stylish the outfit was. The button issue -- never thought that age would determine if you should wear shiny buttons or not. Wear the shiny buttons -- at any age!
I don’t wear a belt with my jeans. I am in my 70’s and am plus size. Most of the clothing you feature I can’t wear. However I still enjoy your videos and think you always look beautiful and age appropriate.
I love that you still have interest in fashion at 70 but that you know what works for your body! Comfort is important for me as well as activity appropriate clothing. I rarely wear my "work clothing" these days as I have retired.
