I found your site a few years back and your work has inspired me in many ways. I finally got it and understand how to coordinate garments so they will work with other pieces in my wardrobe. I learned to design and sew my own clothing using some of your capsule garments ideas. I made pieces that would work with each other and go with at least 3 other garments.
I then made a swatch book for all my fabrics that I have used and have in my stash. New fabric purchases need to also coordinate with existing fabrics and garments I have made. What I have learned from this process is to stop sewing or buying individual pieces because I needed an outfit or found it stylish in the moment. I don't want to sew or buy garments that will not serve the other pieces that are made with great intention.
Taking photographs of my outfits and individual pieces while wearing them, has helped me to see how I really look. I can see what isn't working and I can make adjustments in pattern fit and define my style. I truly had few basics that would add or lend themselves to any other part of my wardrobe before I found your site. Thanks for all your efforts and sharing your experience.

So great to see capsule wardrobe advice that isn't just endorsing one striped top, one white blouse, one trench coat, black pants blah blah blah.......your style and skill and focus on colour and interest and then putting it all together is top notch, Maria!

Love your videos, you’re the best wardrobe creator on YT, all of social media, I should say, but I mostly watch YT. I yawn my head off looking at all the usual capsule wardrobe videos with just black, gray and maybe ivory solid items and one striped top. If I had such a grim, uninspiring wardrobe, I’d stay in my nightie all day! I love color and pattern, I just make sure I have enough neutral solids to make them work. Additionally, all “statement pieces” makes for all “orphan items”. Like Sezane’s recent drop, a brand I generally like, but everything was so “statement”, they are just too dramatic and memorable and can only be worn one way. I have a well-defined style framework (classic, elegant, feminine), a limited color palette (Summer or Soft, Cool and Light) , and fabric/material limitations (natural fibers/materials and the rayon family only), but there’s plenty of variety of choice within that. Everyone where I live wears one thing only, everyday and everywhere: black and/or gray polyester/spandex gym outfits. I don’t understand why these super-tight, hot and sweaty clothes are even considered comfortable, they’re not at all! We have many, many millions of choices, why just wear black and gray solids? Where’s the funeral?

I am in total agreement with your post ! As a “ color chameleon “ myself, I require an accent color in an outfit most days, unless I am having a need for a “ quiet” day, then I go all neutrals . All neutrals may be easy and right for some people, but it would bore me to death, wanting to get out of neutrals prison !

Finally a capsule wardrobe video that’s clear and makes sense. It’s something I can try without pulling my hair out because it’s too boring and doesn’t include prints.

Thank you so so much Maria. I used your video to use items from my wardrobe to pull a capsule together. I took me 2 hours mind you and a bit of stress but I ended up pulling out things out of the back of my wardrobe and I'm so pleased with the result. Thank you, this was a really helpful video for me.

Always love a capsule wardrobe video. I think having mini capsules in colour is a genius idea. It really does help to expand the outfits you can create. If you are not already a member I can genuinely say it’s worth investing in becoming one to avoid the costly mistakes we all make with clothes. Xx

I have only just discovered you on UA-cam but am watching your videos from your earlier ones up until more recently. I love your approach (the body shape video was an eye opener) and you have already given me some invaluable advice. I'm a large boobed apple shape and used to be a tiny waisted hour glass. The change has been cruel and hard to accept! I need to lose about 14 lbs I guess but my shape has changed forever. Thank you so much for your videos ❤

Does your coarse include cool color combinations as well, as I know you are in the warm tone seasons.

It’s a done for you capsule rather than a course and yes it has warm and cool colours. The May capsule is going to have a few different colour and print combinations too. But you can use the outfit formulas to give you inspiration too and choose pieces that are similar in whatever colours you like do there are a variety of options 👍

I think your British “plain” or “block” color is what we call a “solid-color” (or just “solid”) here in the US. In my first comment, I didn’t mean to say only neutral solids, I have colored ones, too, mostly in the lighter colors I love like light taupe, pale greens, pale blues or cool, pale pinks). But, I am especially fond of a white top, or as a distant second, an ivory one (because of my cool-undertoned coloring). My dominant coloring characteristic is Soft (Summer), so some of the more neutral Soft Autumn colors look good on me, too, like the paler khaki/sage greens. Yesterday I looked for a book on the Munsell Color System with color samples, which we use extensively in science too (I‘m an environmental geologist). But, they were $1,000 US and up! I’ll have to get by with what I already know and what’s on the Internet.
