One small suggestion, in videos like this, show what you typed into the stores (amazons) searchbar, so the viewer have a better idea how the suggestions vary. So e.g. if you typed in pc Power supply, Modular PC Power Supply or 650W power supply. Because for my its not clear if the bigger power supply is just because the system doesn't need as much and it just the go to wattage or if you git suggested a bigger one then you searched for. Same thing for the higher end motherboard.

@@tim_mueller nice proposal. I think I remember in the previous one they said they put in as small a search query as logical + compatible (eg "CPU", "GPU", "AM5 motherboard") although I haven't gone back to see it plus I don't know if it would be quite so clear on the PSU wattage difference that you bring up.

There's nothing wrong with sourcing some (or all?) parts from them. Though IMO maingear (seems to?) do a good job with builds, it's all off the shelf parts. Hell I got a email saying they tested intels latest attempt to remove the oven and glave DLC from my CPU and that the new microcode is good. They did a stress test and found the MOBO I picked sucked and gave a discount. Not chilling at all! the case itself is meh (kind of jank to be honest). lol well I mean, just for sourcing parts: they beat out neweg, and who ever is left in the custom PC parts space.

I'm really looking forward to where this is going, and in the end good media coverage is what will lead to people making better choices than what Amazon recommends them. Well something in "defense" of the amazon picks. I think that these encompass more than just "wanting to build a new PC"?
Of course SATA SSDs or even a one generation (good new market value) will be more popular than the newest/most up-to-date components. These are more typical upgrade parts&paths for existing older machines. Just due to comparability reasons or possible "over-budgeting" in terms of performance, meaning bottle necking.

Overall Pick makes a lot more sense outside of building a PC. It did a respectable job for the information it has. Amazon doesn't know your budget or use case. Is the pc strictly for gaming. Are you gaming at 1080p? What kinds of games will you be playing? You see the difference in these PCs because of the games they tested with. But if someone is going to play games like Civ 5 and RTS games, then the builder might want to lean more on the CPU side.

Something important to remember about Amazon suggestions is they're based on generalized feedback, not feedback geared towards an overall PC build. That motherboard that wasn't as feature rich makes more sense, but consumers sometimes go for features they don't need or Amazon may have a just be pushing for the product that's overall going to fit everyone's needs (this may also be skewed by users buying a mobo with less features then returning it because they didn't read the description vs a mobo with too many features that satisfies everyone). It won't be the perfect PC, but it seemed to make a solid all around pick. Now if Amazon would just stop selling open-box/used as brand new, they'd be a solid pick since Newegg has been scamming people for a while now. Weird to think Best Buy is still the most trustworthy option all considered, esp given how sketchy their Geek Squad is.

With Amazon recommending a SATA SSD, I think it's purely because most people buying storage are buying 'additional' storage rather than flat out always building an entirely new computer. A lot of motherboards can only support a single NVME, and older ones don't support any. And (speaking from experience) there is a nonzero amount of people who likely don't know what version of NVME their motherboard supports, so they pick the safe SATA option instead.
